Director Marketing and Advertising Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Semrush are now just a bunch of scammers." December 16, 2025 1.0 Pros When it worked a few years ago. It was not bad. But now their support is terrible. No rectification of a clear fault. Replying with there is no error when there is a clear error. Cons We've noticed more and more discrepancies and missing data that are HUGE in comparison to every other tool. or they are flatout just missing. eg. Position Tracking tool - our most importantly used tool. volume for a keyword in Google Keyword Planner set to same location is showing a volume of 590 and in semrush its a flat 0. Most of position tracking over different client accounts are showing 0 volume for their most primary keywords and in turn making our traffic metrics look like garbage in position tracking, when infact they're booming. I raised this issue with their support just after my renewal, they stretched the responses out for 2 weeks after multiple follow up attempts and then wont refund me my 5k renewal because it's now outside the strict 7 day refund period. However the issue was raised literally two days after the renewal where i mentioned im giving them the opportunity to resolve and update all my campaigns first before i ask for a refund. I did the right thing - they want to scam me. Semrush in my eyes now is just a scam. Stay away. There are much better tools out there and weve moved off and will never look back and have only but the worst to say about semrush like most the other reviews on here. Review Source VR Verified Reviewer Owner Real Estate Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Beware of SEMrush’s Cancellation & Refund Process" January 7, 2026 1.0 Pros The platform itself may be useful, but their cancellation policy, lack of transparency around automated communications, and refusal to refund despite timely cancellation attempts are major red flags. I strongly recommend reading the fine print and being very cautious before subscribing. Cons I had a very frustrating experience trying to cancel my SEMrush subscription. I attempted to cancel before the renewal charge, yet I was still billed and then denied a refund. What made this worse was the cancellation process itself. Their system repeatedly sent the same automated email over and over, never progressing to the next step. At no point does SEMrush clearly disclose that these email responses are AI-generated, which is misleading and wastes a lot of time. The process only moved forward after I explicitly asked to speak with a human, something that is not clearly indicated anywhere in the cancellation flow. Even after following the steps and attempting to cancel in good faith before being charged, SEMrush refused to issue a refund. Also they nickel and dime you about everything. Review Source JB Joe B. CEO Computer Software Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Good SEO tool with strong features but some billing hiccups" December 5, 2025 4.0 Functionally, Semrush has done what we needed: monitor technical site health, track rankings for key terms, and give a quick read on how we compare with competitors. For several years it has been a useful, if not cheap, part of our marketing stack and has helped guide our SEO and content priorities. We did have a difficult experience around add-ons and renewal, which was frustrating initially. That said, once the issue was fully understood and escalated, Semrush support resolved it by removing the add-ons and issuing full credits for the disputed charges. Overall, the product itself is strong and we continue to get value from the core Pro features. With some improvements to add-on transparency and renewal communication, it would be even easier to recommend. Pros The core SEO features are solid. The Pro plan gives a clear view of site health, keyword rankings and basic competitor visibility in one place. Site audits, keyword tracking and simple competitor checks are easy to run and interpret, which has been useful for a small B2B SaaS like us without a huge in-house SEO team. Once projects are set up, it’s straightforward to monitor how our SEO is performing over time and to spot issues early. Cons The platform is powerful, but the interface and pricing structure can feel complex if you’re not using it every day. There is a learning curve in understanding which features and limits you actually need, and how add-ons interact with the main subscription. We did experience confusion around add-ons (SERP Gap Analyzer and Local Pro) and how they affected our renewal. At first, the focus in support was on internal refund policies rather than on clearing up the underlying issue. However, after escalation Semrush ultimately removed the add-ons we didn’t need and issued full account credits for the associated charges, which I appreciate. I would still like to see clearer visibility and simpler management of add-ons in the UI for business customers. There is a lot of additional value add in the features and information it can generate for you as well. Pros Semrush is an absolute must for optimizing your site for SEO, the site audit feature gives you invaluable insight on your website in order to fix and optimize things for best performance. I also like how you can easily and quickly gather competitive analysis on any website. Cons I wish there was better insight on Advertising analysis of competitors, it only shows google search keywords mostly from what I have seen, I would like for it to show a more comprehensive footprint of digital advertising. Scaling my content writing business has been boosted by my use of Semrush. They give you the run around and require you to jump through hoops to cancel their free trial and then deny even when you've done what you're supposed to do. Their policies are highly illegal. I'm sharing because I don't want others to have to deal with the same things I did. Pros I used it for a short time during my trial period. There are other websites out there that have similar features. Cons Semrush is absolutely horrendous when it comes to customer service. I am not the only one (look at Google reviews). I cancelled during their free trial period with plenty of time to spare and they still charged me hundreds of dollars. They are refusing to return the money and are using shady practices to give me the run around. It is highly illegal due to the FTC's one-click to cancel law. Do not give them business. They've been reported to the authorities and to the Federal Trade Commission. On the seventh day, I saw that my card was charged. Now I have to jump through hoops(chat and email support ticket) to request a refund. This "7 day free trial" is misleading. Pros Seemed to have intuitive tools, but you could not utilize them during the trial period. Can not really evaluate. Cons Happy to take my money and run during a trial period.
