August 15, 2019 4.0 Overall, a great tools I've been using for years for content and competitor research. Very insightful and quite affordable. Good job! Pros Historical data!!! This is the main reason I am using the tool. You can access rankings history for any website and go years back to analyze how they were changing. Also, from my using alternatives, it seems to be the biggest index of queries and historical data for each one. The keyword difficulty metric is helpful when selecting a keyword to compete for. Works very well for predicting how easy it is going to be to rank for a certain phrase. Cons Please kill the Disavow tool. It causes lots of confusion. We've been dealing with clients who got very legit links disavowed causing rankings loss. The industry is scared enough: Any time website owners get a new link, they have to wonder if it's going to cause trouble rather than an authority boost. Disavowing cannot and should not be automated. Plus, more often than not, smaller publishers who don't buy links (and never did) don't even have to worry about disavowing. Pros One of the things I liked the most was its wide range of tools and features with which I was able to perform keyword research, analyze my competitors' strategy, track the performance of my keywords in search engines, and much more, all from a single platform. It was incredibly convenient to have all of this functionality in one place, saving me time and effort by not having to switch between different tools. Cons The interface is a complex and overwhelming at first so it took me a little time to get used to the amount of information and the different sections of the platform but I also found that some of the functions could be a little difficult to navigate and fully understand. Pros The features I used the most were Keyword Magic Tool and Content Improvement. They worked just as I expected them to. While developing the blog section of the website, I always used the magic tool to research keywords. There are enough filters and sorting options to obtain exactly the results you want, and the related keywords returned are always bang on. The content improvement feature tells you exactly what you need to match up to search results appearing above yours. I was able to see results when I edited articles according to this, so I guess it works! Cons The user interface is outdated and very cluttered. Definitely takes some time to get used to. I would have preferred a more minimal layout. Also, one minor glitch that I consistently noticed was that it undercounts the words of all articles; for example, if I've written a 2,000-word article, SEMRush may tell me it's 800 words long, and ask me to expand it further. Every agency and SEO should use SEMrush. Pros The "Site Audit" and Projects tool is my favorite part. Setting up projects and scanning websites in full every month is great, we can uncover lots of hidden issues such as broken links or duplicate content with ease and filter through everything in priorities. The keyword gap analysis and data exports are also perfect for any company tracking SEO progress and keyword movements after a web migration. Cons The plans can be a bit expensive, especially if you use the site audit tool and wish to scan thousands of pages within a month (as there is a cap). Overall though the pricing is fair when compared to Ahrefs or the fact that cheaper tools are not as comprehensive. And these are just some of the features of this amazing tool. You can manage and improve your online business just using Semrush. Cons Maybe the only con is that Semrush doesn't allow you to know who are your competitors, you have to know them before running your analysis. If I think of a product like Alexa, it allows you to easily find your competitors just by adding keywords - the software automatically finds them. If money is no object, SEMrush is probably the solution of choice for most businesses ready to make a serious investment in their business' SEO. As time has gone on, however, I've found myself using other, often free, tools just as often. You don't need to pay to get the lion's share of the value in this tool, so the question is more one of whether you want all the nice extras, like automated suggestions, that you won't find done as well elsewhere. Pros This tool has a TON of features. It's really great if you want to dig deep into many areas of SEO and want a single hub through which to do all of that work. You get automated suggestions for keywords, great link-building suggestions (including warnings about negative links), and heaps of nicely sorted data to analyze. Cons It's expensive. Particularly now, when offerings like Ubersuggest are putting advanced features in our hands for free, having to pay through the nose to get the full value of a solution like SEMrush is a bit of a dubious proposition. It gives me a lot of keyword ideas and more topics to cover. I'm also having a pleasant experience doing competitors research. It allows me to see their keywords and backlinks. It helps me to work faster and to be more efficient. SEMrush helps me to save more time and to do more productive stuff. They also send me emails about new features and marketing strategies. Low competitive keywords are easy to find by using filters and this comes in handy in the case of on-page SEO analysis.
