They've got a pretty robust set of keyword and link tools, and seem to finally be adding new, useful tools at a faster clip than they have in the past. Cons SEMRush is solid, but for the money, it's not the best option out there. In spite of the decent set of tools and data, they don't win on utility, breadth of tools, size of link or keyword database, or ease-of-use. For the money, you'll probably be fine with SEMRush, but for the money I'd rather spend my budget on ahrefs. Their customer service is great. On top of that, the tool has cut my researching time in half, while also adding more valuable research and insight that makes my marketing efforts even more successful. Pros It covers literally everything you need to research and know for an all-encompassing marketing plan. They say you don't know what you don't know, and SEMRush tells you and shows you what you don't know and more. If you want an all-in-one software for digital research, insight, tracking and marketing, this tool has everything you need. Cons It has a high learning curve, so it's easy to get lost in the software. Luckily they have onboarding training to help you through that so you can get up and running as quickly and smoothly as possible. Review Source Ian C. I think its a great option for non-SEO companies and businesses that want to get found on Google. Pros Easy to use and most of the important stats are right in front of you. Just plug in the keywords and bam there it is. Also gives you PPC info as well. Cons It is missing some features that AHREFS has. Sometimes to prepare for a competitive meeting where I was proposing to take over the website from another vendor, sometimes to evaluate a website that I manage to get a 3rd party evaluation. The tools and insights that they provide are very, very good. Pros I really liked SEMrush is the free trial they offer. They allow you to use their services for a few days to see if it solves the need you have. I am a small business and every dollar counts so I have to weigh out what I spend money on carefully. The trial allowed me to see the value of their services, which are great. Cons While I really like the services and insights that SEMrush has, it just did not fit my budget. The price point is competitive, but there are less expensive options out there. These are not as robust, but they work for what I need currently. Pros Provides a lot of insights about businesses and your rivals, as organic and paid search keywords information. Easy keyword research tool, nice SEO templates, user-friendly dashboard and awesome domain analytics tool. Cons I wouldn't recommend using this software for backlinks audit. The data not up to date and not always 100% correct. Google search console and Semrush often shows different information for the same domain. To say that this is robust is an undestatement. The platform is very quick with no delays, which can be irritating with other platforms. Bottom line - confidence. I trust their metrics and results, so I can proceed forward based on their results. However, some other platforms I'm left with that vague sense of inaccuracy. Cons Too much info. It's all over in your face. Everywhere. They provide so much info, but sometimes I wish there was an easy button. It's not really bad, it's just an issue that's real. Also for a non-technical person it can be significant as you can review progress and cross check work done by your development engineers. Detailed reports are offered in the premium version Cons The downside of this software is that for the monthly charge it does not offer anywhere near the quality of research on competitors compared to some free software out there. I found Google's keyword planner much better in certain areas of the keyword research process. SEMrush really needs to up the ante when it comes to competitor data like keywords, ads. Pros Tracking keywords is very useful with SEMrush and I am able to make tweaks to websites based on the data I am able to collect. Cons Sometimes the information isn't accurate, but that comes with most tools. I also wish there was a better way to create a great, indepth, side-by-side comparison of site A vs site B if I was doing a competitive analysis. Please launch the LinkedIn analytics soon as we are looking forward to this. Pros The variety of analytics that this tool provides is like none other in the market, especially at this price point. I enjoy doing competitor research, keyword tracking, content planning and analysis all in one platform. Of course there are many other features, but these ones are the ones I use most often. Additionally, the site audit functionality, backlink audit and link building have been very useful in finding gaps in the website and helping us to prioritise how to bridge the gaps. Cons There are always improvements that can be made. LinkedIn analytics is a feature we would like to see. After communicating with their support reps, they admitted that their data is wrong, and that engineers will be spending the next two months trying to fix it. It's not a functional product in its current state. Pros The idea of this software is good, but it doesn't deliver. This product should not be used to make business decisions with paid media, the data is wildly off. Cons The data is terrible. It should not be used to make business decisions. Cons I did not encounter any problems while analyzing and researching websites using Semrush. However, its interface isn't as good as Ahrefs'. Semrush team should work on enhancing its user interface. Otherwise, I had no issues when posting and researching websites with Semrush. April 20, 2018 5.0 It saves me SO much time and frustration switching between various browsers trying to piecemeal together similar tools from other websites to do the same jobs as SEMrush. Pros Everything related to technical SEO -- keyword research and suggestions, content ideas, on-page optimization, etc. -- is covered with their super user-friendly "toolkits" and they're all in one browser! It's really hard for me to try to switch between various tools online to try to achieve the same effect that SEMrush does with their system. Cons I don't know that I can think of any true criticism of SEMrush. I guess part of me wishes that it was a self-hosted suite of tools rather than being available through the web, but that is so minor and really just a personal preference rather than commentary on the utility of the tools. Pros I love the weekly emails that give you an immediate glance into how your SEO and social performance has been doing. Really gives you an idea if your marketing efforts are paying off. Cons The tracking of your website's rank per keyword functionality isn't quite the best, but you do get an overall idea of where to improve your SEO efforts.
