### "KeePass For Password Management"

December 27, 2024

5.0

It is my go-to password manager and rolling out to our entire organization. I've used it for years, and in my newest position have certain responsibilities over cybersecurity, so distributing a password manager to help encourage users to maintain complex passwords is essential.

Pros

It's easy to use, simple to install, you can share a key database across devices so that you can get to your list from anywhere.

Cons

It's really difficult to find flaws in a free tool that offers extensive functionality for storing and managing passwords. I honestly ycan't think of anything I like least.

Reason for choosing KeePass

Cost was one of the main factors, but in the end KeePass has all the necessary features anyway, so it was an easy decision.

### "Good way to keep your passwords secure and safe"

January 10, 2019

3.0

Easy to use and a nice way to store secure passwords without trusting a third party to store them online for you, at the cost of some convenience.

Pros

You do not have to rely on and trust some online service to manage your passwords. You can store everything in a local file and back it up to the cloud if necessary. Uses a very widespread standard so there are many mobile apps for opening the database on your phone and browser extensions for autofill available. You can easily generate a secure password in the program itself. The database can be made harder to crack by brute force by increasing the number of encryption cycles and adding a key file.

Cons

The interface is a bit outdated. Also, there is no native Linux or MacOS support (it can be run using Mono, but it sometimes has some bugs). You have to manually sync the database between devices and there is no official website autofill feature, which many online password storage services do have.

### "Once you use KeePass, there's no going back!"

June 29, 2021

5.0

KeePass makes it possible to store the passwords (database) in-premise. This makes it possible for us to secure our passwords with the present infrastructure without second guessing the levels of security that is offered. Since we can implement our own cloud storage, all passwords are always a click away whether online or offline; desktop or mobile. We are never going back to another password manager ever!

Pros

It has never been easier to use a password manager before we started using KeePass. On the closed-source platforms, the per-user fee kept going up with each additional user. Over time, we've even lost access to one of our accounts. This is where KeePass has shined for us. Keeping the database local has helped solve so many of the issues that we otherwise have to deal with while using other password managers. All of this while being completely open source? Easily the best decision that we've ever made.

Cons

While using a single database in a multi-user, there is always a chance that one user could over the changes made by another user. But, there are plenty of extensions available to add/remove functionality. In our environment, we regularly save versions, thereby securing our own data.

### "Simple, complete, efficient for free"

October 16, 2022

5.0

Pros

This solution is super efficient and flexible. It is possible to install the software or use the portable version in a shared directory to use it on several computers without any synchronization problem. The interface is simple, at the service of efficiency.

Cons

The interface could be a bit more modern, but that's a detail. The most important are the features.

### "If you're tech savvy, this is the password manager for you"

September 21, 2022

5.0

Pros

Quick to install and use. It has lots of plugins and features, covering all the scenarios I need. I especially like the fact that you can store your password archive pretty much everywhere and aren't stuck with a cloud provider or a specific vendor.

Cons

The GUI is a bit 1990, but all in all it works fine and you don't really need anything fancy to manage your passwords

### "The most secure way to manage your passwords"

April 16, 2021

5.0

I've been using keepass for a long time. I previously used an online password manager but that service was hacked any all my passwords were exposed. After some research i found keepass and for me it was the perfect solution

Pros

Keepass is very secure. All your passwords are in 1 encrypted database and your passwords will remain private and inaccessible.

Cons

The interface is a bit old, it's not as shiny as the other password managers but the functionality is great which makes me not care a lot about the design

### "I highly recommend KeePass"

April 19, 2022

5.0

I use it many times during every day and it allows me to have different, high quality, passwords for every site and I never have to worry about losing them or someone breaking them.

Pros

I have used KeePass for many years. It is free and, very important, it is open source, which means that it has been thoroughly checked for security problems. KeePass's easily configured auto-type makes browsing easy and very safe. It is also multi-platform. I keep the password database in the cloud with a very secure passphrase, so that my wife and I can easily access it from different devices - Windows, Linux, Android, etc. There are many plugins for KeePass. For instance, I use a plugin (Readable Passphrase) that generates easy to remember but very hard to crack passphrases. The passphrases are easily configured for different types of pattern. A very important feature is that KeePass keeps a history of all changes to every entry

Cons

The only problem I have had is when KeePass is open on several devices and changes are made on two (or more) of them. KeePass usually manages to combine the changes but it does occasionally fail. The solution is to make sure to save changes immediately.

### "Portable and easy to use"

February 12, 2020

5.0

Love it. I know I have my passwords when I need them and I do not have to rely on some software company keeping their cloud safe from hackers. My passwords stay with me, and only me.

Pros

In addition to the installed version on my desktop, I also use the portable version on a USB drive I carry around. Does not require installation on the few other machines I need to check my passwords on. As for functionality, I don't find it lacking and it is easy to use without reading manuals. Going to my bank is as easy as clicking the link in the password entry, then click the username to copy it to the clipboard and paste it, then click the password to copy it to the clipboard and paste it. Copied passwords only sit in the clipboard for 12 seconds (default) before being removed from the clipboard (for security reasons)

Cons

Can't think of anything. if I had to say something, it is that it does not automatically capture your password when first filling out new logins on web pages. But with the auto generating passwords and the ease of using that password on web pages, it doesn't matter.

### "Do not forget any password, ever"

September 30, 2022

4.0

I was an avid user of KeePass for years because it was an easy and convenient way to store every password, arranged by sections of my life and work. I am still using it, but not so usual because Google is doing an outstanding job remembering my passwords. Nonetheless, sometimes you are using a different computer or need passwords for things that are not online (such as credit card digits or locks), so I still use KeePass every other week. It is a simple and modest-looking software but has proved essential for my work and life several times during the last decade. I guess some people can be scared about privacy issues, but after more than ten years of using it, I have never had any problem.

Pros

I liked most that KeePass is free. But, beyond this essential aspect, I also enjoy its customizability: I can insert an icon for every password, be it an official ID, a Twitter password, or any bank account. Another remarkable aspect is how easy it is to organize all your information and data in files and folders, so you can quickly go to the section you need (well, the "Search" option on the top leads you straight to the file you need). Finally, I would like to emphasize the importance of syncing the android app with the laptop program so your passwords are always up to date.

Cons

It is less common now because there is access to the internet everywhere. Still, years ago, I had a challenging moment in an airport: I did not remember my suitcase's three-digit code, but I needed access to the internet to open the app. So, one "con" for me was its dependency on being online.

### "A very thorough password manager"

May 17, 2020

5.0

Overall, I definitely enjoyed my time with KeePass and it was my first password manager and used it for a long time. While I usually did not take advantage of a lot of the options they offered, the main idea of offering a good password generator and storage option is very strong and having those options there was a big plus. I do wish they eventually expand in their software options and do release their own mobile applications and maybe even extensions, but their main software is very well developed.

Pros

KeePass is a very good password manager in that one can tell that they put a lot of work in allowing lots of freedoms and options of what a user can do. There are tons of options such as determining what encryption one wants to use, allow the file to be exclusive to their PC or one can also setup a way to synchronize across devices however they want to. Not only are there a lot of options in managed the password database itself, there also tons of options in creating passwords themselves. This allows one to have a lot of freedom in what they want from their password manager.

Cons

The thing with KeePass if one wants to take full advantage of the software they have to make sure to take the time to actually learn what the software offers, which I would say is the cost of the many options, one who is not well versed with computers or such software will definitely have a hard time with the UI. Also the lack of an Official KeePass app makes in hard to setup for mobile and other similar devices, as I would prefer using their software over having to rely on third parties.

### "Strong, Secure, Stable"

January 17, 2020

5.0

KeePass greatly reduces the risk of credential compromise and increases adherence to password policies.

Pros

I have used this software daily for many years, and my experience has been stellar! I feel like every time I reach out for a complex feature, this software has it. While easy to use, KeePass makes it easy to customize exactly how you want to manage your passwords. I even use it at home. The password database has excellent cross platform support and can even be used on smartphones or on Linux.

Cons

Because it has a large number of configuration options, it can take a while to have everything configured exactly the way you like it. With that said, the defaults are reasonable, but you certainly need to take the time to review all the settings if you want the best experience. If you don't like having control over advanced configuration, this might not be the best choice for you.

Reason for choosing KeePass

We choose KeePass due to low cost and because we could tune the application to behave exactly the way we wanted.

### "Great tool to secure your passwords at work or at home."

August 31, 2022

5.0

I have been using KeePass daily for over 3 years. I never encountered any crashes or errors. It is well organized, easy to use and navigate. KeePass is a great tool for protecting my work and home passwords and login details.

Pros

KeePass is easy to use, the navigation is fast and you can get what you need within 2 clicks. This tool is very usefull at work where I need to log in multiple sites and systems every day. The security level at work is very high and KeePass is helping to keep it that way.

Cons

The desktop version has to small buttons in the toolbar.

### "Works across multiple platforms sans internet- but not quite consistent across them"

October 5, 2017

4.0

Safe reliable password management for us and our clients.

Pros

We needed an ideally open source password management system. I didn't want anything tied into a particular browser and I wanted something we could back up. Keepass was the least annoying of what I looked at. It is easy to generate passwords and we save our file onto a shared server so all employees can access it. The search function works well and we estimate between the search function and the autotyping, we've saved hours as a company in worktime.

Cons

The Mac version allows me to alphabetize listings (you have to drag them) but since I work on my PC most of the time, it can get annoying. Also sometimes it's hard to know when you are synchronizing versions if it's really synchronizing or you are saving over someone's work. It is free though and I get that limits the features and support that can be expected.

### "KeePass is the ultimate and go-to offline secure password and file storage."

December 3, 2019

5.0

Again, I would describe KeepPass as the absolute go to for secure password storage. I use on all my devices and for a majority of passwords...except the ones stored in my elephant like memory, ha! Best thing...it's totally free!!

Pros

Firstly, the fact that is totally offline is the most needed benefit, followed by the ability to multi-sign, using a variety of methods, such as key file. I have also used KeePass whislt going through an ISO audit, although not in this company and it was approved by the auditor as secure. (Disclaimer: This was on THAT occassion. I cannot speak for all ISO officers or the accreditor themselves.)

Cons

No official mobile version, however, as the software is open source, it is easy to find many checkable and source code verifiable iteration from an abundance of developers. Not to easy to use for newbies, or less computer literate people.

### "Reliable and versatile password manager"

August 15, 2018

5.0

I don't know how I would survive in this day and age without Keepass. I have login credentials for over 200 accounts stored in it and could not possibly remember them all without it. This is must have software.

Pros

I love that Keepass is available for so many platforms. I'm able to manage my passwords on my Windows laptop, android and IOS devices using the same software and password database which is encrypted in the cloud. Software is easy to setup and use and allows you to categorize login accounts/passwords for easy retrieval. Also allows eascy copy/paste of password from Keepass to whatever login application needed. Perhaps the best part is that depending upon the platform it is either free for just a few dollars to purchase.

Cons

I don't have any dislikes with Keepass, it does exactly what I need.

### "Your organization's security needs this"

April 22, 2019

5.0

Pros

It didn't matter how much education we did- people still use their dogs' names as their passwords. Every security test we attempted resulted in failure. It wasn't until we accepted the problem as a reality that we could make some progress. And when we did, things changed. We used to have password requirements (character limits, special types, etc.), but now we just require that the password be generated by KeePass. We're able to help people in the few instances when the app doesn't work, but the impact has been significant. Now, 100% of our employees are using safe password protocols- with next to no effort.

Cons

When I find one, I'll let you know. I think this product is better than LastPass because of local storage options.

### "Best Offline password manager there is period"

May 28, 2018

5.0

Amazing Offline Password manager that makes life easy and saves lots of time.

Pros

\- offline, passwords are not stored in the cloud for hackers to get to - encrypted on rest, passwords are stored encrypted with a password and possible a key - searchable database, easy to search for any password entry in the entire database - password folders to keep the clutter down - image attachement support - keyboard shortcuts

Cons

\- not much is wrong with this tool - possible the only thing I have missed is that it would be good to add and extra field on an entry for easy access, right now its only username, password and URL, it would be good to also be able to copy paste TWO FACTOR code or something like that without having to edit

### "KeePass is great if it fits your use case"

February 19, 2021

4.0

This replaced passwords being stored in spreadsheets, never a good idea. It allowed unmemorable high entropy passwords to be implemented, but in the end the lack of workable sync for multiple users became a barrier to use and caused us to move on. For a single user not requiring mobile use this could be a good free solution.

Pros

I used KeePass from a network share to manage internal, the fact that it was free made it an easy way to show the benefits of using a password manager. The ability to generate passwords with high entropy at the click of a button certainly improved the security posture immeasurably.

Cons

The lack of cloud based hosting and sync proved to be a barrier to long term use. Whilst you can work around this by using sync tools and shared folders, there is alway the risk of changes being overwritten by another user. The interface felt outdated and cluttered. The lack of official mobile builds was an issue.

### "The Best Lil' PW Manager"

February 26, 2019

4.0

I've used keepass for several years. It's a very reliable pw mgr system that has far exceeded it's $0 cost and has kept many a pw secure across the entire length of my software career. I couldn't recommend a better free tool for immediate download.

Pros

It's free, effective, and it's continuously updated. The "type credentials" feature is super useful, and it allows a 1024-bit key file, Windows Auth, and PW encryption. It's clean, simple, easy to use, and allows for all the right customizations such as color coding.

Cons

No SSO option out of box. Fails to be a true cloud based solution on the free platform. No mobile-native option for download. Memory Overflow attack will dumb entire db in plain text so that's not good.

### "Invaluable for Daily Use"

November 21, 2021

5.0

Each team member has to keep track of 15+ complicated individual passwords, there's no "Password" or "abc123" here. (And even if there was, you could still use it!) This tool keeps those all organized for each team member.

Pros

In a time where we want our team members to create and use complicated, hacker resistant passwords for the multiplesites we have to access daily, KeePass is the only way to go.

Cons

When you need to add new passwords, you actually have to take the active step of saving your additions, (we use auto save Google so sometimes this step is easy to forget), but overall that's a very minor issue.
