It keeps everything organized and easy to track projects. Pros What I like most about OpenProject is how organized projects become when using OpenProject. It is a great way to track milestones and progress. Cons I have nothing negative to report about OpenProject. It is a great resource for project management with a lot of useful features. March 17, 2026 5.0 I’ve deployed Openproject on a local NAS to manage my personal projects, and I use the AI Agent to connect to APIs, so the entire workflow is seamless. Most importantly, the current free features are more than sufficient for my needs at this stage. Pros For individual developers, Openproject meets all my daily needs. It’s very easy to deploy. Plus, its API capabilities make it simple to use AI tools for task management. Cons So far, I haven’t had any complaints about it. If I had to name something I’m not satisfied with, it would be that the interface is relatively simple and the plugin features are somewhat limited; there’s no way to use third-party plugins by importing them. While there are some paid features we might consider in the future, the core product does what we need it to do. As the head of the event, I need to keep an eye on all the moving parts and know who is doing what and what still needs to get done. Cons With a name open, I'd have hoped that it would be one of those where you pay for support or implementation. However, some features are locked behind a monthly/yearly fee. If it was a one-time fee for non-profits, I'd consider it. Pros \- Self hosted - Very fast, and wasn’t affected by projects or users number getting larger. - Super configurable, literally everything is customisable. Cons \- No mobile app- No real RTL support, I was forced to design a Chrome extension for my team to modify Open Project’s UI to fully support RTL on browsers. - Sometimes I had to try several minor versions (0.x.x or 0.x) in order to find the most stable one. Others in my organization find it frustrating for scheduling and viewing overall status, but we are finding ways to work around issues with other tools. We don't need another Jira! OP is my MS Project alternative, and adds the benefit of integrating teams into project tracking. Keep up the good work! Pros OpenProject is a pleasure to use for projects from proposal/concept to closing. Creating a WBS and timeline with generic resources is a great way to generate documentation needed for proposals. Copying that proposal project to an active project is then a great way to jumpstart project planning with team awareness of timelines and requirements. Teams can interact with the project plan, adding their own features and tasks to complete deliverables. Creating custom WBS queries assists in focusing team members on items they are required to complete. And creating custom queries to the master Work Package list provides a way for executive members to view the active phases and status of milestones. Meetings can be logged in their own section, and wiki notes can be captured for reference. Very pleased with the community version of OpenProject. Cons Scheduling and resource management is a bit burdensome with OpenProject. There is so much value in scheduling with blocked-out weekends, holidays, and resource calendars. Resource loading reports have to be manually created in other tools (spreadsheets) to show whether resources are available or overbooked. The planned project overview page and executive/portfolio views can't come soon enough. Value is often communicated upwards, and there isn't much for executive management to view; these views and reports are still custom creations in other tools. Printing wiki pages, meetings, etc. are awkward. Budgeting is OK, but again awkward as the plugin appears to apply to all projects when within a single project. There is no baseline feature and no way to compare performance verses the baseline. For these reasons, users are still required to use more advanced resource management, project management and budgeting, and scheduling tools alongside OpenProject. It is great software, just not a complete replacement for other project management toolsets. At times, it would be good to have more condensed views, but reducing the screen rendering/size to less than 100% suffices for now. I would like a brief overview of the project portfolio. Pros Open source software, API, web based. Constant feature and security updates. Agile tools; Gantt chart. Cons The integration of agile module with gantt chart does not work correctly. There is currently a need for manual updates to the Agile module and Gantt. It would be great if the Gantt chart showed the progress of Versions, User Stories, and Tasks automatically. Currently I have to create a Gantt Phase and link to the Version of the same name. The complete and at the same time simple customization of the information available in boards and gants. A product, on my opinion total complete vs more other similar products on the market. The price is also affordable and is a plus for this product. What makes it perfect for us is the possibility to have it installed on personal servers. The free version cover the 80% of the entire functionality. Cons On Task Activity view it would help to have an preview of the images uploaded. Pros What I really like about OpenProject is that is an open source project management solution that streamlines our projects management process with features like time and cost reporting and issue tracking which allows us to ideate on multiple projects and track time and cost spent on each project. I also like how this tool allows us to run custom reports that provides useful insights on our project performance and resource allocation and it's great for making data-driven decisions. Cons I love it's an open source project management tool that is easy to use with any operating system. Nevertheless requires user to go through the learning curve which is not a dislike. Prof. Used the software for: I used a free trial ### "Project management at the tip of your fingers" September 1, 2023 5.0 We tried OpenProject to track the progress of our research projects, which are distributed in nature as they are composed of different partners in different institutions. OpenProject is a solid solution for that, easy to use and with a rich set of features. Pros It was super fast to insert and organize the tasks/milestones for our project. The interface is so intuitive that we didn't even need to take the introductory tutorial. This lowers the adoption effort for all members of a team and therefore makes it more likely for them to be consistent users, rather than stopping updating the project after a while. The board feature is complete and useful to have. Cons The only thing we didn't find so intuitive was how to export the graphical representation of the GANTT chart, which we might want to have to put in presentations & co. Minor issue though.
