October 25, 2016 5.0 The version of TreePlotter that I work with is aimed at gathering information about community planting projects. Plant-it geo has developed a tool that allows individuals with little to no GIS skills to accurately plot newly planted trees and collect important urban forestry data. Our application was originally developed as a way to count how many trees are being planted, but because TreePlotter is so highly customizable, we are able to gather other information that will benefit urban forestry efforts in the future such as tree size, stock type and source. I am particularly grateful for the ecosystem benefits calculator, because it gives me the information that I need to pitch the importance of tree planting to individuals who may care more about the bottom line that the trees themselves. As an urban forester, the ability to show someone exactly how much money was saved by planting projects in their community is invaluable. Able to manage service requests and work orders in a more meaningful and effective manner. Pros Easy of use for all types of users makes for more fluid training. Workers are able to have more autonomy. Cons Has some glitches - need to refresh the website a lot while using it out in the field. Some fields don't update after they are edited, saved and closed. Landscape Designer Design Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Good software for urban forestry" June 25, 2019 4.0 Pros The ability to manually plot locations as well as geolocating with your phone or tablet with pretty good accuracy is more than I can say for some other softwares I've used. If you're managing a "forest" this has shown to be an effective tool allowing you to locate and track the condition and management over time. Cons The way I use this as an arborist/landscape architect is to map woodlands and trees for the purpose of development and preservation plans in which case most of the trees will be removed during development and therefore no longer needed to track or store but this software stores this data using our allotment of data points. June 1, 2021 4.0 Pros Greatest value of this product is capturing the live area that an asset/tree is located so that inspections, identification, etc. can be captured. Maps are more accurate and customizable with filters that are handy for seeing different views. Different map views (Satellite, etc.) are also helpful in various scenarios. Being able to manage all of that information in one easy to use application is a huge asset to our company. Pros This software is easy to use, accurate, and very customizable for your needs. Plug-ins are awesome tools that help create manageable data for urban forest management. Cons Editing or removing plotted points can sometimes be difficult. Once all of our tree inventory data was input to the system, the process of splitting the course up into manageable sections and submitting Request For Quotes was very much streamlined. Planning/scheduling work, and then showing progress to our general membership is also drastically simplified. Pros Ease of use, and the software staff (Ian, TJ and Patrick) have been extremely helpful and accommodating. Queries are easy to run and repeat. The support and development from the company is exceptional. I have worked with different tree management software for about 30 years and this is on another level. Cons The on site survey experience can be improved, this can be improved with additional maps. And I suppose whilst its cheap - its not free! One of my jobs is to help IDL promote the inventorying of trees in small Idaho communities. The inventories lead then to managment plans which is the overall goal. Tree Plotter has made my job so much easier . The basics can be learned in a short time and it is robust enough for sophisticated analysis. In times like that, Tree Plotter's Offline module can be used to collect data without an internet connect and sync the points up with Tree Plotter later. Cons Some of the controls and functions can be difficult to locate. The names/terms used are not always the ones I would use, so it takes some hunting around. The team is very responsive to any issues we encounter. The features are fairly robust with customization. We like the display of tree species and benefits as well as filter options. There are still some aspects that are in development and we have some difficulty with data collection on some devices in the field. The development team is continuously looking to improve the application and make new features available. It is best to plan ahead if you have a fixed budget for the possibility of new features as add-ons.
