### "Sage is a good value for the the money I paid"

September 10, 2021

Despite their short comings,I can tell you that sage 300 is the best management software out their with good value for money, and I highly recommend it for either large or small real estate or construction companies.

Pros

What I like is the face that sage helps me to boost my project productivity, limiting errors, improving correspondence among parties, and creating adjustible reports

Cons

I have been using this software for a while now and my only issues us that I still cant remove some dormant account.that is my only issues

### "Terrible product for a lot of money "

May 4, 2026

1.0

Only easy to use if you’re a professional bookkeeper, apparently. Not intuitive at all. I wish I could start over with another product.

Pros

That I have figured it out, mostly. It took many years but I can do just the basics now, thank goodness.

Cons

So expensive! Gone from 300 to 900 in 10 years. Clunky. Not intuitive. Easy to make errors that aren’t flagged.

### "Think hard about buying Sage Construction products"

April 23, 2026

2.0

Overall, if I hadn't spent over $15000 implementing this I would no longer be using Sage 100. We are currently implementing shop management software (Strumis) that I'm hoping will cover our project management and payables approvals requirements, and if it does I will no longer use Sage 100. And \*no surprise\* Strumis and Sage will not be able to exchange any information at all. The costs are way too high for the lack of features, lack of integration options, amount of headaches, and lack of support. We're paying almost $8000 CAD per year on this, I absolutely do not find it worth it.

Pros

The internal integrations between PM and accounting and payroll work really well. Handling COs and progress bills is super easy. There's great accounting features - being able to lock periods is wonderful, and having a period option instead of just a date option (as in Sage 50) is amazing. Customizing reports is great. It's very NOT user-friendly, but if you can figure it out it's great, and you don't need any 3rd party to make it work.

Cons

As per usual Sage, almost NOTHING integrates with it. I have literally one option for payables approvals and importing and it costs as much as the annual on Sage itself. For the amount of money it costs leaves a lot to be desired. I can't even import a .csv without some sort of 3rd party something that I can't even be bothered to look into because there's no way any additional costs will be worth it. My "business partner" is fairly terrible and Sage won't let me deal with someone else. Getting support for Sage is awful. I have to go through the chat every single time, then escalate it, then wait for a callback. I have Sage 100 Contractor Canada, and Sage Paperless, but apparently they're two different companies and two entirely different support channels. But I can't get support directly from Paperless, I have to go through Sage who has no idea how to troubleshoot anything about Paperless. Nightmare.

### "Powerful Construction Accounting Solution with a Learning Curve"

May 1, 2026

5.0

Overall, Sage Construction Suite is a powerful and reliable solution tailored for the construction industry. It’s best suited for mid-sized to larger companies that require detailed financial tracking and are prepared to invest time in setup and training. Once implemented, it becomes a dependable system for managing construction accounting and operations.

Pros

Sage Construction Suite excels in job costing and financial tracking. The ability to drill down into costs by job, phase, and cost code provides strong visibility into project performance. Reporting features, especially WIP reports, are detailed and useful for forecasting and decision-making. The integration between accounting, payroll, and project modules helps streamline workflows and reduces duplicate data entry.

Cons

There is a noticeable learning curve during onboarding, particularly for teams without prior Sage experience. Custom reports and configurations can require additional support or technical knowledge.

### "Good starting point for software"

May 5, 2026

4.0

I find myself mostly using the procurement tab to organize all my billings and projects. Overall there are some great aspects of the platform but I feel it could be modernized a bit.

Pros

I like the menu design when I first log in, and seeing everything at a glance. Having tasks to alert me to items pending or missed is also helpful.

Cons

We do not use the bidding platform portion because I find it "clunky" and not very user friendly. The interface looks old and outdated, and I find that other softwares have better tools available for the same price.

### "Great product for the MEP construction world"

May 28, 2026

4.0

Incredibly flexible and accessible from anywhere and give you the granular control over your construction financials, Sage covers almost every base you could need. The estimating and pre-construction tools are highly accurate, which helps keep our projects on budget

Pros

Having project management and accounting live in one system is a great time saver! The cloud-based access is a lifesaver, allowing our field and office teams to collaborate in real time on submittals, RFIs, and daily logs.

Cons

We found that managing the certified payrolls could be a little cumbersome with detail in the fringe benefits.

### "Timberline Property Management Software Review"

August 20, 2021

3.0

When we first purchased Timberline in 2002 we were extremely satisfied with the software. Their Customer Support & Third-Party Consultants provided the best & knowledgeable support I have ever been involved with in over 40 years of use. They still provide great support in answering and fixing my problems, but the response time has been degraded. Unfortunately, once Timberline was acquired by Sage, the Real Estate (Property Management) portion of the software seemed to become "orphaned" in favor of the Construction portion of the software and has not "kept up" with today's technology.

Pros

When we first purchased Timberline Property Management Software 19 years ago, we felt it was the best Property Management Software on the market. It had all the modules we needed at the time and they were tightly integrated to each other. The report designer module made it easy to produce both "canned" and "custom" reports. Bottom line, it fit almost all of our Property Management needs with minimal reliance on third-party software.

Cons

Timberline Property Management Software was acquired by Sage Software and in my opinion over the years since acquisition, became Sage 300 Construction Software. If you look at the focus of the software today, it seems to be over 95% focused on the Construction industry and only 5% on the Real Estate industry.

### "Easy enough!"

April 23, 2026

Pretty easy to use and/or find video how to's on youtube. I am not an accounting major so this system is basic enough for me to understand and work through.

Pros

This is system is easy to use, easy to modify the look and/or find help on things I am not sure about.

Cons

would like to be able to run more reports from closed years. I often have to provide audit info for previous years and would like access without having to close out and open previous years.

I am very new to Sage only 9 months in. I have always used Quickbooks. Sage is a challenging process to learn but I understand why GC would use this program.

Pros

Cons

### "ongonig problems with timberline"

April 28, 2026

frustrating as hell starting 2002, the constant change for the sake of change has not been beneficial to me, it has infact cost me time and money. unfortunately im so invested in the program that it doesnt make sense for me to change at this point in time. I may just go back to simple spreadsheets in the future

Pros

the stuff you didnt change, when something works stick with it, change for the sake of change is not a benefit

Cons

you changed items and how the items updating of cost works, ive used timberline estimating since 1999 and now I have to figure out how to use items again

### "Sage is okay."

February 10, 2026

4.0

I have used sage products all the way back to Peachtree, Goldmine and Act! CRM. Sage 300 feels pretty much the same as it did 20 years ago, and that isn't necessarily a good thing. There is inconsistency across modules (some use list, others use different terminology for same function)

Pros

Mostly easy to use once the quirks are figured out. If you know the software it is great, the reporting is decent.

Cons

The UI is not intuitive, feels dated. I hate the inconsistency across modules in Sage 300 CRE. List should be the same across all modules as an example.

### "A solid software"

June 7, 2025

5.0

A solid software for small construction and development companies, and scaleable too, but had many deficiencies.

Pros

Processed information very quickly and spit it out in a very tabular data form. Also didn't require Internet.

Cons

Reports were difficult to customize, and data was hard to merge and connect across modules. A lot of desync opportunities from the general ledger.

### "Sage Construction Suite is great!"

April 21, 2026

Great program that I recommend any construction company utilize to run their business smoothly and keep it up-to-date.

Pros

It’s a great tool to help streamline our business needs. We have access to all our information in one spot, reports, estimates, and it is super easy to use.

Cons

Honestly there is nothing off of the top of my head that I can say I honestly don’t like about the program currently.

### "10 years past it's prime"

December 7, 2023

3.0

Sage 300 CRE meet our company's needs for close to 15 years, but ultimately newer, cheaper, faster, more accessible, and more customizable software came along and we choose to switch. 10 years ago Sage 300 CRE was well worth looking at but these days there are better options on the market.

Pros

As an accounting system Sage 300 did the majority of what was required from it, similarly as a payroll management system. Sage 300 CRE has a lot of 3rd party support and there we no shortage of additional programs that could be integrated to handle document control, time collection, and reporting. Sage 300 CRE is also customizable enough that many changes to accommodate our business were able to be made. Most modules in Sage are capable of importing from CSV files making data transfer between system relatively easy, especially with the backup documents.

Cons

The biggest complaint from our users had to do with the speed at which the system operated. Regardless of our servers hardware we found some reports and process would take several minutes to run and despite receiving several suggestions from the customer support team nothing ever improved the situation. As time went by despite yearly updates Sage 300 CRE felt like a older and older program, its UI and design philosophy feel very 2000s. Getting information out of Sage can be extremely tricky as well, built in export options are limited, and using the ODBC drivers can be tricky even for technical users. Setting up Sage 300 CRE so that it functions like a client-server application is also tricky, and the update process usually ended up with our IT team spending an entire evening updating the server and each individual workstation. Access Sage outside of your company's intranet is also difficult.

### "Sage 300RE "

May 17, 2021

3.0

I am a moderate user because of my position but I was the person that took on the Service Module back in 2005 as we switched to Sage. I was very disappointed then with the SM module as it was not going to do what I was told it could but it was to late at that point as we had made the switch.

Pros

It had the ability to customize features in the program

Cons

The service module is way behind the times and will be the ultimate reason we leave Sage at some point. Even though we haver added SSO for some time now it still does not change the fact the back office program is the problem. We need more flexibility with departments and costing to meet the real service world. Also in order to make Sage work to meet todays requirements we have had to add third party programs such as Timberscan, Cabbage, hh2 and any even a program to get better access to your data. Sage is exactly the kind of program third part developers want and keeps them in business. Having Sage 300 Re means you will be forced to use other companies to get what you want out of the program. I did not realize how the programs we pieces bolted on and that there not actually built together. Once I knew how the purchasing module had to use Macros to make it work and communicate to the rest of the program was extremely disappointing. The program does not easily allow you to perform the payroll function easily with Payroll companies. Basically you cant get job costing to pickup until you process a weekly payroll to get it on the jobs. You are left handcuffed to do payroll in house when smaller companies want to move that process out of their company. The program was moved into the cloud last year in my company but it is really not cloud based. So you have to work in a remote desktop way verses a true cloud based program.

Reason for choosing Sage Construction Suite

The controller at the time recommended it but later I found out that was what he was familiar with.

### "Pro's and Con's of a database-driven program - powerful, clunky and not necessarily intuitive. "

October 26, 2021

4.0

For those who live within it, it seems to provide them all of the answers they are looking for. For me, a casual user, it is frustrating. It makes me feel like I am stuck in the 1980's, trying to dig through someone else's database. I love Linux, but I don't use it as much as I should because it is always changing, and if you don't remain immersed, you cant keep up - I feel the same way about Sage. You live it or you loath it....

Pros

Sage develops and maintains a large and powerful database. It provides you the options and ability to do anything.

Cons

In spite of of developing and maintaining a large and powerful database, Sage is clunky to use and requires regular embedment in it to be able to perform advanced functions, let alone basic ones. It is not intuitive. In fact, it can be a real pain in the butt!

### "Feature rich but not user friendly"

August 14, 2021

3.0

My experience has been mixed. It took several months to locate someone in support to help me through a very frustrating upgrade path. The inability to update functionality can lead to finding alternative solutions when in a time crunch. At year end 2020, we had to find another way to accommodate the 1099-NEC change when we could not successfully upgrade.

Pros

This product is fairly comprehensive with some offerings from third parties to fill in the gaps

Cons

There is a clunky, nonintuitive user interface. Training involves a long learning curve. Users who are more familiar with more graphical and intuitive experiences will need help. Upgrades can be error prone which is mitigated by the excellent Knowledge Base and being adept at Google searches. Most stumbling blocks are documented. Support is pricey but with persistence helpful.

### "The best applications for accurate accounting of supply chains"

December 5, 2021

5.0

Sage 300 keep all supply chain tracking processes on track from the start until after the work is completed, which gives assurances to all supply chain participants that their entitlements and rights are known and thus facilitates transparent settlements.

Pros

It is a comprehensive accounting program, useful for conducting audits and reviews of all accounts of suppliers (creditor and debtor). It integrates with many software that is used in project management, enabling users to apply comprehensive management concepts to their projects. I like very much the ease of setup, commensurate with the needs of the project, and its integration with many applications relieves you of double entry and enables you to import or export data as needed. With Sage 300, you will be able to accurately prepare the accounting lists for your supply chains, as you will be able to know the balance of any of the suppliers and delivery dates directly and without the need to search in invoices and files.

Cons

All is well and after hours of training you will be able to use it efficiently, just needs some updates to the display and some colors to get a more modern look. The program's speed must also be increased so that you can exploit more than one window at the same time.
