Price to function seems good. I have a hard time saying anything else good. If you can live with the cost of frustration, you will probably eventually say its worth it. I've used it for 10 years! Cons Sage provides almost "ZERO" support. Don't let them lie to you. I have used this product for over 10 years and my level of frustration remains very high. They will not support you after the software/conversion is done. You get pushed to a very few, custom Crystal Report writers who are incredibly overloaded. So all the promise of great dashboards, custom reports (which you have to have! For your own business!) is for naught. Just add 6 months to your process which is absolutely not an exaggeration. Let's just say it like it is. After the sale, Sage does not care about you. Review Source AM Anne M. Controller Construction Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Sage 300 User Review" March 18, 2021 3.0 It's clunky and the gray boxes make it look dated. I hope future updates will make it more user-friendly. Pros It covers all accounting areas of the company - very robust. Cons When you are keying a journal entry, the name of the G/L account should be displayed after you key in the account number. Same in the A/P module. Journal Entries should be reviewed and posted by a different person who keys them in. In the G/L activity report, when a negative number appears in the Debit column, it's a credit. When a positive number appears in the Credit column, it's a debit. They shouldn't appear in the wrong column at all. You should be able to click a box and have the Journal Entry you are booking reverse on the first day of the next month. You shouldn't have to key it in as a separate JE. The support staff have a vast knowledge of the construction industry and the various accounting needs that go along with that. As a construction and service company, it is nice to be able to have both groups be able to use the same software which keeps the accounting side simpler. Cons Its showing its age. The system is stuck using old technology and hasn't been updated in years. The updates that are put out are more bug fixes and updates for regulatory forms and such. I generally push off the updates as long as possible due to it being a time consuming process. Each time you need to uninstall software from each PC and reinstall. This can take a day or 2 to complete. A few years ago they were working on adding a way to work through a browser via webpages, but has not happened. They are now showing this feature as a cloud option only with monthly fees. Reason for choosing Sage Construction Suite Decision was prior to me working here. IF you can find the documentation you need, when I've tried to use, the software doesn't work as planned. Hours on hold to find you were doing it correctly but their software isn't working. Pros It connects eventually to Procore........ Cons Customer support - Good luck trying to find useful information regarding the steps you need t take. Last year a roll out of an update was posted in SageCity which is a joke to begin with and if you're not signed up there, there was no notification. I've never heard of ANY company that pays over $30,0000 a year not bother to send an email to the customer when an update was going to be rolled out and brief information on the changes. Has literally changed our entire department. Three employees are now performing the work of five employees. Pros The functionality is very intuitive. Once you learn one module, you can use that knowledge and be very effective in the other modules. The program is laid out very logically. Cons I would like to have more flexibility with our third party. We didn't have a great implementation and we would prefer not to have to use them for additional items we add. It may have added it but we left and went to online based software. Pros Software covered everything for accounting and scheduling ends. October 5, 2017 5.0 Sage is organized in a smart way that makes sense. Things are not generally buried somewhere, or organized in a way that you can accidentally enter things in multiple places (a nightmare I experienced repeatedly with Quickbooks). There are clear rules that follow basic accounting principles and tremendous resources for project management and business planning. It also has a lot of flexibility for customizing. The support services are unprecedented. Pros It leaves good audit trail for everything you do. As a bookkeeper this is invaluable for reconciling (unlike Quickbooks). Versatility in Job reports and tracking so much data for making smart business decisions. Cons It takes a long time to become truly proficient and is not designed for people without strong accounting abilities and knowledge. Some features are not intuitive. If you need custom reports you either need to take extensive classes or pay an expert (time consuming for the first and expensive for the second). Review Source JM John M. You do finally get things resolved but it just takes a lot longer and for a user who is out in the field with limited time it becomes inconvenient. Pros When the program is finally set up and running , it works great and can get some really great reports. The reports you need can be difficult to set up but when done, they can create a wealth of knowledge at your fingertips Cons It is really hard to get set up and running like desired. We had tried Builder Trend and didn't like the clunkiness of messaging, to-do's, and the selections. It also didn't handle payroll. We were looking for a one-software-does-all program; something that could handle everything from leads, estimates, take-offs, budgets, contracts, ongoing project financial reporting, all of our inhouse bookkeeping and all of our payroll administration. We chose Sage 100 Contractor because of it's ability to do all of these things. So far, we have completed a bunch of training on Sage, and we have just recently gone live. It seems like it works very well and handles most tasks efficiently. Pros Does all of the tasks I mentioned; leads, estimates, take-offs, budgets, contracts, ongoing project financial reporting, all of our inhouse bookkeeping and all of our payroll administration. Massively reduces the likelihood of double entry. Pretty easy to use and fairly intuitive. Easy job reporting functionality. Great payroll functionality and end of year automation (eg for T5018s for subs) Cons Not cloud based so it's difficult to access the information from anywhere. Not a mac software and does not work great with Parallels. Does not include time-tracking software for employee time sheets and we've been recommended against Sage Anywhere (the software we were initially told would perform this task) by the actual sales consultants at Sage! Does not integrate with Toggle (the time management software we are currently using.) Because of the points above, entering time cards for job costing is very time consuming. Very expensive! August 13, 2021 4.0 I cannot speak highly enough of Sage Pros I love that this platform is consistent from area to area so once you get a grip on A/R A/P is setup similar. I also love the ability to arrow into other areas of the program easily. Cons I wish creating custom fields were easier. I also wish creating reports were easier. Pros I have worked on this software for over 20 years and have loved it from the beginning. It is so friendly and easy to use. If you need any help there are numerous ways to get it including friendly tutorials or a live person, if needed. Cons The estimating software was not what I was looking for, in the way of full integration, when I first began using Sage. Honestly, I have not pursued it recently. Pres Construction Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "You better get a REALLY GOOD CONSULTANT before purchasing this very expensive software" December 13, 2016 1.0 Very poor upfront design consultation from our implementation consultants. Even their support personell is wondering why they even sold this to us. We have very unique requirements for our electrical and low voltage business and consultants said we could acheive our goals. turns out that their solution for us required "tricking " the program to work a certain way which we are now paying the price for. Also this is ABSOLUTELY NOT the software you want to use if you are using a vpn to link multiple offices together. They dont support vpn. Be very clear in what servers hardware you are looking to use and domain controller. Overall Sage charges for absolutely everything (including the API) which is has lousy documentation at best. Also discovered that they have a major flaw in attachments (such as documents) that are not secure based on the permissions you give out to particular users. Searching data and trying to find a transaction is horrible. There are soooo many basic featurs that Quickbooks enterprise had that are sorely missed. Would definitely stay away from this software for anothere year. Hopefully, now that they are on SQL database, they will come out with some major improvements- will wait and see. IF they dont, we will scrap this after investing over $K. Horrible software right now and also doesnt integrate with anyone. I think everybody has abandoned integrating with it as there are too many problems with it. Be careful before you buy this!!!! I enjoyed how in depth job costing was, but I wish there were simpler processes for simple tasks instead of bouncing between modules. Pros I liked the fact that you could be really in-depth with job costing and billing which helped pinpoint correct costs and what we should be charging in order to cover those costs and continue to profit. You were also able to customize things to fit your company if you were more technologically inclined and willing to learn the software. Cons It was not user friendly, especially to anyone who was already technologically challenged. You would also have to involve several modules for certain tasks in order for things to process correctly. If you made a mistake, the task of backing things out took a lot of time.
