Finance Manager Construction Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Excellent for our size company" May 17, 2021 5.0 I stated using Sage 300 with another larger commercial general contractor. When I changed companies they were using Sage 100. With time I have appreciated the ease of use of Sage 100. Being that we are a residential general contractor, we often need to look at historical job details. I am able to do this with Sage 100 and can find original source documents such as paint colors or model numbers of items. Pros Being able to attach source documents to transactions for future use. Pros Ease of use Easy to learn and get accustomed to Has been around a long time Recent improvements (last 7-8 years) to the software (Xcel downloads, employee set ups, My Assistant) More 3rd party products that communicate well or easily with Sage 300 (i.e. PO/AP software, electronic clocks) Cons I don't like the extra layer on support. It is inevitable that we need the 2nd level for almost every call. No drill down links between modules. There are a few things (I can't think all of now) that you can tell an accountant was not completely involved in setting up. One example, putting a negative in front a number in the credit column on some reports and not on others. The inconsistency can be confusing. Is it a credit or a negative credit (which = debit). And the third party softwares addition to the software since I can have the third party pull out information faster. Pros The ability to customize a lot of things and be able to inquire and run reports from the data. I like how the system can be set up to calculate a lot of things in the system. I like the support which is a great help! Cons Sometimes things are not able to be changed once in the system and some glitches of the system that can not be explained. Office Manager Construction Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Great software for construction company" October 5, 2017 4.0 Sage customer support online/via phone are very helpful, when I call the customer service representatives are very friendly and informative. Pros This software is easy to use and offers a wide range of reports for tracking costs and analyzing financial information. Utilizing all the modules makes the transitions easy when moving from a bid to a current project, all the way to project closeout. Their support staff are always knowledgeable and quite thorough in their efforts to help. Cons The report writer needs some overhaul. We need the ability to merge information more easily with Job Cost and AP. As a contractor it is critical for up to date information without having seperate reports for Job Cost and AP. Give those creating reports the ability to "connect" data indexes and set more than 3 sorts on a particular report. Review Source JS Jenna S. Cons I feel like the UI is clunky and outdated. We've had to partner with several companies to get more out of Sage because they aren't updating anything. I also dislike their customer service. I've been on a phone call with a rep and instead of walking me through a solution, I am sent a link to a solution, put on hold and expected to walk through it myself. Sales speaks highly of software and then there are no staff to support it. Everything is very expensive!!! Pros Ease of use, functionality, flexibility. Cons I dislike that Sage Support has moved away from personal contacts for help. Pros Once the software was set up it was easy to use. Cons There is little flexibility by the user to change somethings. Like to add more spaces for Job numbers I am locked in to only four Digits and to change this I was told they would have to re setup all my information. Reason for choosing Sage Construction Suite Timberline was the only company that was comparable for a construction company at the time. It has morphed some over the years, but continues to be a benchmark for Job Costing and Estimating software. The company is innovative and produces a robust suite of software modules that integrate seamlessly and produce business intelligence that is useful, accurate and complete. I've used a variety of software systems, done a system conversion in the past to Constellations NewStar, used various construction industry software and mortgage industry software. By far this is the worse system I have ever worked with. It's like stepping back in time to 1990. It lacks basic functionality. What it offers in payroll is limited and does not compare to other systems out there today. Cons The software is difficult to use. It is not intuitive. It lacks basic drill down capabilities and exporting / importing data capabilities. If you want to do something basic like export data or design robust financial reports you need to buy an add on package. Pros Progress billing and job tracking are essential for this industry. This software keeps track of it all. We have even been able to use this for jobs that are for a repeat customer and calculate the price to do the same thing this year! Cons Would like to be able to gear reports to our use more. It is also used for customer service with our warranty repairs. We look forward to taking it to the next level and using it for Estimating/Purchasing. Pros It is easy to use and is very simple being organized by the category you wish to review. F1 help is handy and resourceful. Reports are simple. Love the drill down ability it is very helpful when trying to get to the root of an issue, because you can do it on just about every report you have open to get to the beginning. Cons F1 help is vague and some things are not easy to understand they way they are written. There should be more use of the space and give details as to how to resolve an issue. It explains but does not give steps on how. It saves time for the project managers, and for the bookkeeper. Pros As an owner, I like the high level overview of all projects, all accounting and the reporting available. Cons We are finding it a long learning curve. We've had Sage 100 Contractor almost a year now and still not 100% running on it. The cost of additional licenses is high, and the required annual support cost must also be factored into a purchase decision. It has cost much more than just the original purchase price. Cons The Change Orders section is filled out and operates almost completely differently from the Takeoff section, and I've yet to see a legitimate reason for this to be. I wish I could use assemblies and estimation tools on the Prime Change List the same way I would in a takeoff. It would make creation and review so much easier. President Construction Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Cumbersome program, customer support is lacking" January 9, 2018 1.0 I've used this program for five years and have had nothing but frustration with it. It is a poorly written program - it is not intuitive or user friendly at all. I have experienced consistent errors (even being proactive with updates) causing loss of work and productivity. Resolve through customer support can additional lost hours in wait time. I strongly do not, nor would my accountant with several years of experience on multiple other programs, recommend investment in this product. There is very little to like about this program.. Cons Even simple tasks are made complicated by this program. The knowledge base (self help) may not have the necessary information to resolve a problem. In that case, you must have a subscription to reach technical support which is an additional fee. Wait times can be several hours. If you do not have a subscription, you will NOT be helped. We have an older version of the software, so the cons I listed may have been solved. Pros Timberline offers a lot of reporting capabilities and customization; Every piece of information you need regarding a job or a customer's account is easily accessible. Cons Cumbersome-- have to do a lot of double entry, cannot easily find information needed in one application while working in another (must have multiple windows open at the same time), accounting information is very involved and not easy to use for someone who does not have an accounting background. Pros I like the fact that all company operations are available under one software, from accounting to payroll, from estimating to project management and service department. Cons It's not easy to customize reports, either you have to practice and master it yourself with their report form, or ask a consultant to put together a report for you. I have had mostly positive experience with Sage 300, and I find that it really helps my job with how easy it is to use. Pros I find that once you have been trained, it is very easy to use. I understand the reports, and when I need help, they are so many tools that have helped me with issues and questions. Sr. Accountant Construction Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Sage experience" March 16, 2021 5.0 I have currently relayed to my current employer when we have to put together reports that involve posted checks with invoices how Sage has a way to scan and attach A/P to the invoice posted in Sage making quarterly and yearly reporting for us easier then going through multiple draws, pulling checks with invoices and making copies when all I do is open the attachment and print. Pros I really like the A/P section and hoping to intergrade the scanner and the online A/P approval process within my current company as I have used it at another company and loved the process made A/P run smoother and faster. Cons There are a lot of reports to choose from, but I need to take the time to develop my own reports that would benefit the company more.
