Office Manager Construction Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Quick Easy Construction Accounting" August 13, 2021 5.0 Pros We upgraded from an antiquated program called Great Plains we had used for 25 years, there was no way to integrate or move our data to Sage. The process to get started was fairly easy, it was just a matter of reentering all our payable, receivable and setting up our GL. Once we got trained on it we found ways to streamline our work load. Cons The thing I liked the least was setting up my GL, they gave me way too many accounts and after entering them all, I discovered that I needed to delete half of them, they did not work for our business. Cons When you look at a printout, if you open the wrong one, once you close it you have to start opening from the beginning again. It doesn't just let you close the open printout and be able to open another one if you need to without starting over. Reason for choosing Sage Construction Suite I was not part of the process for choosing Sage. I had used a basic Sage Accounting software for years and before Sage bought this particular accounting software, it was Peachtree. I loved it. Pros Reporting is excellent. User friendly. Ease of teaching employees. online forums are spot on for good information. Immediate help via chat or calling with more difficult issues. I love that they can help by driving my computer when I could not figure out an issue. They take fixes seriously for the next update. Very professional looking invoicing and reporting and very easy to get exactly what you need without a bunch of drop downs and reconfiguring of the crystal reports. Customer service is excellent and the software does what we need it to do. Pros I like that SAGE 300 CRE is able to work for our company in managing our rental portfolio, new construction jobs, and general ledger accounting. I found it has a robust payroll module enabling ease of use for Federal, State and Union payroll issues. The addition of Aatrix actually improved the payroll module. This program works for individual homes to large scale civil construction projects. Pros This product is flexible and can be used for a variety of different types and sizes of projects. Cons Customer Support is through your local network. Sage provides zero customer support and treats their customers as if they are trying to steal from them. The AP, AR and Payroll are simple and easy to use. Cons I would like to see a little more ease of use for estimating. For a small remodeling company like ours, we do not need massive amount of data. And a HUGE improvement would be if you could set up a standard "Note" for each cost code. We prepare proposals by Cost Code with descriptions as to what "Tile" entails (our allowance, our standard running board pattern, inclusion of grout, etc.) I would also like to see a running report that includes budget v. actual for hours, labor dollars, subs and materials. Right now I need more than one report to do that. EVP Construction Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Wouldn't Recommend for a Specialty Contractor" March 16, 2021 3.0 We use Sage 100 for all of our accounting/payroll/purchasing/subcontracting and project management. Pros I've been using the software for seventeen years --- drill down works great --- generally intuitive to use. Can teach others to use in a short time. Cons Reports are needing serious work that Sage just won't change, Some work arounds that we implemented when we first started using the product are STILL required seventeen years later. There are also STILL issues within the program that Sage just can't fix. Have had to hire third party consultants to help with some issues and reports. Director of Accounting Construction Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Not a User Friendly Product" March 16, 2021 2.0 Each time I call customer service, the representative spends time searching the knowledge base and more times than not, they are not able to help. Doesn't seem that the representatives actually use the product or understands the accounting process. Pros The add-ins that allow for easier use of the Software has changed the friendly use of the product. Adding excel export has made it much easier to create reports instead of using report writers. Cons The size of the entry, it's too small and you cannot change it. You are limited to the screen that shows and it normally is too little space or area to view. The conditioning is far too difficult. You need to understand some basic coding to properly condition. Formulas also require too much information about IT to properly set up. If it was able to integrate with more time clock software, that would be amazing! Pros I really like how customizable their menu can be for each employee that uses it. Each menu can be different for our Accounting department, our HR department, and our Production department. I use it specifically for payroll processing and it is easy to use. Cons It unfortunately does not integrate with very many time clock systems therefore I have to input everything manually. It's not really that big of a deal though because we have so many different moving parts for payroll. I also have found it difficult to create new reports to print out. Review Source BN Brittany N. I personally do not have much to compare it to as the only other system I have used it Sage 50. Pros I like how we can use this software for both residential one time work orders and jobs that last consecutive months. Cons I dislike that when you search for a part you cannot search it by a key word in the name of the part. For example if part is named 4' risers yellow, I can only find the item by searching "4", I cannot find it by searching "risers". Alerts sometime seem to not work. Ease of invoicing clients and keeping up with clients balances and pending orders. Clients like that they can receive invoices and account statuses via email. Cons The main thing as a bookkeeping is that reconciliation is a very long process and there is no way of locking the books so changes can't be made by others. The inventory system is very overwhelming when updating levels after doing inventory counts. I never had great success with support and when I did get some help it was someone who wasn't very educated in the matter or Couldn't help me. Entering charges from bank statements is a long process and not always easy to use. But overall if your main need is invoicing and creating quotes for clients this is the software for you. Pros Stability. Continued support. Customization to meet needs of construction accounting. Reliable. It just works 99.9% of the time. Cons Sage has done nothing to improve the product in the past 20 years. It is basically the same interface. The addition of desktop app was an attempt to bring a modern feel to Sage, but it is basically the same program. Upgrading the software costs me a full day of downtime to upgrade server and all of our workstations every year. Surely, there could be a better way to upgrade. Project management is light years behind other PM solutions out there. Reason for choosing Sage Construction Suite n/a. We have recently chosen to move to RedTeam for our project management solution. I'm hoping Sage will increase their coordination with RedTeam so we can use their interface to do more workflow. Not required any expertise to use this program. We can make functions,modules using crystal reports program. Very easy to build new modules. Kuesel utilizes the payables, receivables, payroll, equipment, and job cost. Pros As a construction company, we needed job cost to be detailed. We were originally with QuickBooks. This software definitely gave us the detail to figure out where our cost was going per project. I also like the feature that it records every transaction, so there is no guessing if someone changed the data. Cons I still struggle with tech support. I do not understand the Sage City, nor the Knowledge base. Reason for choosing Sage Construction Suite Timberline was used more so for estimating, and Kuesel needed more for the accounting side. At that time, Timberline did not have a software that was compatible with accounting. With this product our company managed Industrial Construction Projects of various sizes and cost and utilized different project costing. Overall our experience was good. Cons Needs a nicer UI/UX for the consumer, the next generation of user is accustom to ease of use and a clean UI/UX. Give the consumer more control, create a solution that allows us the ability to manage our data, our way. Would like to see in lieu of monthly free webinars that cater more for new or potential buyers, webinars for how to utilize the software to its maximum potential. VL Valerie L. Construction Used the software for: ### "Stay away!" September 25, 2014 1.5 Pros The Project Management portion works fairly well. The reports are very clunky and hard to work with, but it's possible to get the info you need. Cons The accounting side of this software is horrible! Did you know that you can have a negative debit and negative credit? That's just part of the nightmare. If you want to see all entries going through both AP and AR, they only show up as summary entries. There is no detail as to vendor, invoice # or anything other than the date and amount. It groups AP entries together into batches depending on how you post. If you post 10 invoices in one AP session, it will group all 10 invoice amounts into one lump sum in the AP gl. Even if you go through the tedious process of posting everything individually, you'll still only have an amount to look at. There is no journal like in QuickBooks and Simply Accounting, so there's no possible way to see what was posted during any given timeframe. Nothing is intuitive and everything takes longer than it should. God forbid you need to reverse something. We always had to call the support line to get help, as it was not easy. Sometimes it glitches and values don't get posted from one module into another. Again, you have to stay on your toes to try and avoid this from happening. Phone support is expensive, and good luck trying to do anything without it. I have now switched back to Quickbooks and export my job costs over once per month into the Job Costs module. We spent a lot to switch to this software (including training), so that decision was not made lightly. It was a bit of a pain, but way less painful than having to stress everyday about how to find something, how to reverse something, or how to figure out where something was posted. I'm very technically advanced and I managed, but it wasn't easy. Accounting isn't difficult, and Sage 300 seems to go out of it's way to over complicate the simplest things. Payroll in Quickbooks takes me 30 minutes. Payroll in Sage 300 took me 3 hours. The software is like playing a computer game on a PS4 and then playing on an Atari, seriously! Review Source IB Ivan B. That and having a great IT rep to help us through issues is a tremendous + Pros Our company was with American Contractors prior to SAGE. There are some areas that are an improvement over AC. With the help of our Sage IT, \[SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN\], we were able to work through the initial frustration of a new system. \[SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN\] is a tremendous asset to us! Cons Not as user friendly as we hoped for. We have worked now with Sage since 2019 so things are easier. Originally, we thought it was an older platform and that is why some actions were outdated and still are. For instance, coding material sent to jobs through payroll. Pros robust accounting and payroll. Good job costing. Cons We have always had difficulty with 3rd party integration like H2H not working as well ask promised. I don't like that that SAGE moved away from developing their own modules and rely on 3rd party sometimes not reliable. Even SAGE Estimating has sync issues at times. Payroll Manager Construction Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Sage 100 for Payroll" December 16, 2019 4.0 Overall this is a great program for payroll; coworkers have expressed it's simplicity in the A/R and A/P fields as well. Pros I use this payroll for 2 companies to process payroll for construction. The employee setup module is very straight forward and gives you may options for customized tracking (for PTO/Sick time). Daily entry for payroll is easy, the payroll and posting processes work well and the available certified payroll reports are clear and concise. Cons This software does not export well to excel; so if you use Excel to process data/create custom reports/run pivot tables, there is a lot of clean up involved before you can make the data Sage exports clean enough to use. Overall, we are pleased with the Sage product. Pros all the accounting applications are integrated making it easy to run reports and pull information from the data. Cons Recently have noticed a decline in customer service. It appears it has been outsourced. The telephone connections are poor and it is often difficult to understand their English. Oftentimes they are not able to answer the call and you get put back into the queue which is frustrating. About a year-ago we purchased the Sage Service Operations for workers in the field to submit their hours. We had higher expectations from the software but it has not been as smooth as we were told. Running reports from it is difficult, the workers in the field are not pleased with it and the back office having to spend a lot of time correcting mistakes because the software is not user-friendly. I really like the drill-down capability. Cons I would like to be able to work with someone at Sage to improve their Progress Billing fields. It is good for a basic set-up, but many of the Contractors that we bill have custom forms, requiring more fields that require the use of the Custom Fields tables. Good that the fields are there, bad in that they do not appear on the screen while billing. Makes the progress billing seem clunky. Also, would like more flexibility in the report writing (such as Outer Join, Left Join, Right Join). Reason for choosing Sage Construction Suite Cost was moderate compared to the higher end construction software.
