Pros It's very, very easy to use. On the very 1st access, a quick look at the functionnalities will be enough to jump right off and start working efficiently. We highly appreciate it and look forward to using it for many years to come. Pros Smartcat is the first and only online translation platform my team and I use and we find it quite useful and beneficial, albeit needing of some tweaks to become ideal for our use. My colleagues usually send queries and suggestions to the team; some of them have been taken into consideration and some not yet. Generally, we like smartcat and fully support it. Cons Every now and then, the application is not fully accessible or too slow. It is a pity for a translator that each new platform has to create new database. Pros It is a platform very similar to others on-line translation platform. I find it is very easy to use (for whom has used other similar on-line platform). But it is not that easy to find new clients even though it claims that it is a place to search for new clients. Translator Translation and Localization Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Overall great software, just a few minor improvements to go" July 23, 2019 4.0 Pros I really enjoy the interface, and how it's easy to see who's online working on a task. I also like the fact that the glossary terms are highlighted in the source text. Cons The fact that the segments are already made available for the next step, even when we haven't marked the task as Done yet. So when I'm an editor, for example, and I just edited a segment and confirmed it, the proofreader can already proofread it on their end. But what if I edit something later in the document and decide to do another change in a previously confirmed segment? I won't have access to it anymore because the proofreader had already confirmed it as well. I think this should not work that way. Another thing I dislike is that we can't edit our comments, or even delete them after a while. Finally, I also think the Concordance Search was more organized and easier to navigate. Smartcat is free. Smartcat is not only CAT software, but it is complete environment for translations, localisations, cooperation, payments and so on. Smartcat is a good team. Cons There are no cons. Pros Easy to start with. After only 1 week, first customers. Longterm collaborations possible. Good overview of projects. Fair payment process, instant payment and fair word rate. Would be perfect, if there wouldn't be... Cons ... sometimes customers go on PTO and approval applications of projects lie idle. Because of that some payments needed more than 2 months. Overview of payments is only send via HTML e-mail without any sort of filter or CSV export function. Makes it cumbersome to copy into own bookkeeping. Review Source DJ David J. It is the first CAT tool I used when I started translating, and it was perfect since it was free to use. Pros The value for money is great, it's basically free to use for freelance translators. After creating a profile, agencies will contact you to work on projects. The fact that this is an online tool means it can be used on any OS. TM and glossary management is also very easy to implement. All files at the various stages of the project can be downloaded. Original and translated files, but also TMs in various formats. Cons Online tool means working offline or with flaky connections is not always very convenient. An installable program like MemSource would be a huge plus. Review Source Gurvitch D. It makes my work faster and better quality. Pros I was looking for a free CAT tool to use, as I find paid ones are just too pricey for my current income and workflow, so I tried out SmartCat and have been using it ever since. Super intuitive to use, good basic features and even more that I haven't started to use yet, like TMs. Cons I have used their internal work platform but didn't find it was so great. I don't know if it's glitchy or if it's just user error. Also, I used to follow their offered work page, but that never took me anywhere. Review Source JC Jose C. Adjustments have to be done in connection with feedback issues and payment times (so as to make them shorter). Pros Ease of use. It works fast and flawless. Definitely, it is user friendly. Cons Feedback and reviews. The translator finishes the translation in 1/2 days (depending on the length of the task) but then the translator keeps on receiving updates, modifications, questions, etc. for "several weeks or months". In most cases, even feedback regarding other translators´ versions and / or other languages. The translation time is OK, but the feedback really takes a longer time (much longer) and nobody pays for that time. Pros \- The translation memory, it's very useful - The tool to align the existing translation - It's very easy to use. Cons \- For translation you need to see the full document to understand the context, it can be interesting to add preview mode, easy to access. - When you add a file avec the creation of the project, the automatic pre-translation doesn't work.
