Cons Lack of portable devices adaptation (even limited...). Lack of a fully compatible offline application. Possibility to work simultaneous on the same document. Possibility to save as in different format than the original file. " February 7, 2019 5.0 It was great because every translator had their own project, and account, where everyone could work independently on their own schedules while also allowing reviews of each project by the manager or other users. For working as a team it very beneficial for the end result. Pros The best thing about Smartcat is probably its friendly interface and how easy it is to use compared to other similar translation software. I think it's worth a try for anyone in the translation business. I used it for three months on a large project in several languages with different translators and it was simple and easy for everyone. Cons Documents with a lot of tables and formatting are not as simple because the end product could be a nightmare. It's better to copy and paste the text in a new document (if possible). Pros Easy to use, as a desktop CAT software user, I spent no time on learning. User-friendly, the UI looks robust, like an old-fashion software, I like it. Don't need to store and transfer the documents I'm working on, particularly when I have a lot of documents in different status during translation. Cons The connection is not so stable in China, even cannot be accessed sometimes. In my 21 years as a translator have never been a user of translation software. I'm sure it would have helped if I had had real training in using the software, so there are probably many shortcuts I'm not aware of. But I find that it increases my work time rather than shortening it. Translation matches are rarely recorded correctly and I end up doing everything by hand anyway. Pros Nothing. Do I need to write more in order for my comments to be accepted. Apparently yes. Cons Having to confirm hundreds of boxes after finishing my translation. Pros Smartcat offers translations according to your profile. You will be able to see the list of the works you are eligible for. Whenever you get the job, it automatically calculates your income based on the repetitions. You can withdraw your earnings to different payment systems. This is a big plus. Cons Customers pay after the work is done. This is a disadvantage as there were cases when a client refused to make the payment and I was not paid for the job. I think customers should make payment before the work is ready. Also, rates can be an issue making my translators increase their rates with me as they know how high I was paid from clients. This is not so good and I always rejected jobs from this tool. Pros Functionality such as repetitions of rows matches. Cons Two translators cannot work on the same project, and the project manages r cannot track what exactly are part of our translation only. The client's PM extracts all translations from others and considers those as my translations, but they are not mine. This is an issue I reject jobs form clients assigned via this tool. The MT is usually good enough to save me a lot of typing time. Always, or almost always, it does a great job in keeping the original format when working with OCR Pros The MT suggestions that speed up the translation process. The ease of use. The ability to run OCR to work over PDF and other formats. The ability to work on Sdlxliff format. A very good support. Cons 1- Sometimes I receive an invitation, go immediately to accept it but I found it's not available anymore (in less than 5 minutes?). 2- I've found it hard to work with glossaries (either received by the client or created by myself). More ever, I got a notification which told I could get paid at the estimated date, but this day passed already, no news, no paid, I wonder if there is any guarantee for the translators' payment. We had a major problem when I inserted a IDML file there were parts from the text were not included in SmartCat and the translator had to do it out of SmartCat. Pros That more people can work at the same time (editor, translator, etc.) and as an administrator I can see the whole process. Pros The fact that I can use it anywhere, on any computer without having to worry about carrying files around or saving them on cloud-based websites. Another great feature is being able to work offline, even without Internet access, with automatic update once you can get an Internet connection going.
