### "Not what you should recommend to a begginer, but a really powerfull tool to write on the fly!"

August 7, 2018

5.0

Since I reached out to this software for the mere purpose of teaching it was a double edge blade on my classes, we had to drop out the use of it for teaching purposes, but instead, I gained a powerful tool to write on my tours and trips around the world, whenever I went without my laptop, once you got the hang out of all the options, the time changes, the bar additions etc it is really wonderful to write, if you come with an Idea and you are over your friends but you NEED to write it down, its trully perfect, then you can export the project via midi or xml and continue your process with another software just fine

Pros

What I like the most is the fact that you can write your sheet music on the fly, and if you happen to have a limited pc/mac/notebook, you wont have to deal with the problem of installing any new software over your already compromised storage size, and since the engine is mostly midi, if you want to just reproduce your what you wrote on a piano or a guitar, it will work just fine.

Cons

The program, for the commercial standard, is too simple, if you want to add vst plugins, it's almost impossible, things like writing up a score for an orchestra makes your browser go really slow unless you have a last generation equipment. So for people who work with heavy instrumentation, it's going to be difficult to work with. Also, when you reach for this kind of software, you want to use with your students, and this software is obviously focused on people who actually knows how to write and read music, a first timer will find all the options confusing, and the toolbar at some point, tiresome.

### "Used, using, will continue to use. "

November 18, 2019

5.0

Pros

This software is one of the first I used for music writing. What I love about it is that you can use it ANYTIME and ANYWHERE, because all the scores are uploaded to the cloud. All my previous composition is still listed under my profile and it's a great way to keep track of my progress. Noteflight is relatively easy to use, although I would think that it can be a little unstable working on the browser. That aside, it has enough features that you need to do a very simple composition, including playback to check if your composition sounds exactly like what is in your mind. I've have used Noteflight and will continue to use it for my personal as well as career needs.

Cons

It has a subscription plan for users who want to create more stuff on their platform. Also, I believe the layout of the features and functions can be organized in a better way. I do spend quite a bit of time trying to find the function I need to write my score, and that can be quite frustrating. The left sidebar is confusing. I assumed that once I get to the function I need, it would appear in my score (e.g. I want a crescendo, I press the icon on the left sidebar, it automatically appears). However, the sidebar is just for the user to see what functions are there in a general category, and pressing it makes it appear at the top bar. As a user, I would have to search for the function I want again.

### "So Laggy"

June 20, 2023

1.0

Entirely dissatisfied. Disgusted. I stuck with this software for a long time because it's easy to use in terms of layout, but the lag is just TOO MUCH.

Pros

It's easy to use & fairly self-explanatory. There are lots of keystroke shortcuts to save time.

Cons

When working on large scores, the entire program freezes up. The playback won't work, editing changes simply don't work, and the computer overheats. Sometimes causes browser crashes. This has happened on multiple computers and internet networks, so it's a problem on Noteflight's end.

### "Used to compose music for AP Music Theory class."

July 17, 2018

4.0

Pros

I like how easy it is to format the music because it's all automatic, as well as the fact that it loads very quickly on all computers. Additionally, the ability to play back the music you compose makes it infinitely easier to understand what you're writing (albeit the MIDI playback isn't as quality as having actual players).

Cons

Sometimes it's hard to navigate the software because there are so many different functions. Also, if I remember correctly you can only have 10 scores saved, and you have to start deleting them if you want to do more, which is frustrating because sometimes you have many projects that you start and plan on finishing but can't.

### "Music Made Easy"

August 22, 2018

4.0

My overall opinion of this software is very positive. I like being able to access my scores from anywhere with an internet connection, so work and listen on the go.

Pros

I love how easy it is to pull up what you need, and once you get going you can type the notes on your QWERTY keyboard and the corresponding notes will appear. Although I am still learning features and tricks, it makes learning music the way I do (by listening to the playback of the notes and articulations to help with tricky rhythms) easy. With a few exceptions, I have been able to get the general idea of many complicated songs by using this software. I like being able to adjust the tempo and playback speed (which helps when rehearsing what I've written).

Cons

One of my major gripes with Noteflight is that the playback doesn't always play back articulations, slurs and ties the way that they should be. The main reason I use Noteflight is to test out rhythms and music, and to put in slurs and ties, accents and the like to see what they would sound like at performance level. However, the playback usually ignores slurs and ties and re-articulates the notes even when they are meant to be connected. I also don't like how hard it is to switch from writing notes to writing rests, but that may just be because I am using a mouse and keyboard rather than Midi input. I do also wish that the playback was of a higher audio quality with realistic sounding instruments.

### "When it comes to "freemium" music notation software, NoteFlight soars above and beyond expectations."

March 19, 2018

4.0

Simple music notation, wherever I may be.

Pros

\-It's in-browser software that is compatible with Mac, PC, and tablets. -Cloud storage allows you to create sheet music anywhere you have a device and an internet connection. -Jam-packed with features that are accessible through a customizable toolbar, allowing you to only see features you need and not be overwhelmed by too many bells and whistles. -Ability to seamlessly export files in a variety of types, such as PDF and MIDI. -The free version of the software allows you access to features that most other free notation software doesn't, such as customizable text and extended musical markings.

Cons

\-It's very powerful for in-browser software, resulting in occasional slowdowns and hiccups, with rare complete crashes. -Some features are hidden behind keyboard commands only, and can be difficult to discover without research on your part. -AutoSave feature doesn't always back up saves. This, paired with rare crashes, means there is always a small risk of loosing work.

### "Inexpensive Notation Software"

February 26, 2020

5.0

Makes notation easy and accessible, works just as great as really expensive products.

Pros

My wife has been using this software for years to notate her music. She used it in college when other students were paying lots of money to use other softwares, and this one is free (if you have under a certain amount of scores.) It's easy for her to use and she can basically do all of the things you can do with the other softwares, plus its online so she can access it from any computer.

Cons

Formatting the pages can be a little bit difficult and sometimes it can be hard to figure out how to put in certain things but overall it is a great software.

### "Noteflight Review"

June 23, 2020

5.0

The full-featured program is a little expensive for the number of students we have in school

Pros

The free version is good for use in schools if students are composing a short song during music class; there's also a store where you can buy music composed by others who use noteflight as their music notation software

Cons

Overall very good platform; I've been using lots of other programs like this (Finale, Sibelius, Musescore, Encore) and while some of the features are similar, some features require you to learn new commands to compose/edit

Reason for choosing Noteflight

Noteflight's free version was easy for students to access

### "Noteflight Review"

Pros

I liked being able to easily transpose music, and it was also helpful that there would be MIDI playback of each note when I inputted it in the music.

Cons

The functions were all icons that needed to be learned and it wasn't very easy for a beginner to understand it.

### "The only option for professional grade engraving online"

August 20, 2019

4.0

Pros

I love the ease of use and the FUN that this software can be in creating online sheet music.

Cons

The support team is super nice - but I found that it was often unable to help/find a solution to some issues - I wish that they would give more priority to their user base. Also, the community forums are not set up in a way that makes it helpful and/or conducive to open conversations.

Reason for choosing Noteflight

Noteflight is the obvious option if you want to write music in the cloud. It is fast, easy and gives professional looking results. There are no alternatives really for that.

### "For a free software, this is great"

August 27, 2020

4.0

I love using this as a way to write little snippets or share student compositions. It is also a great tool for beginners to play around with if they have a basic knowledge of music.

Pros

I love the variety of features. I feel like I can use this on the fly when I need something written quickly. It is easy enough for my students to use.

Cons

I find that there are some things that the free version cannot do, so I have to find workarounds. It isn't generally an issue, as I'm writing snippets for educational purposes.

### "Ridiculously slow"

January 26, 2021

2.0

It's okay. Very frustrating, but the project will get done.

Pros

It is affordable. I don't use software notation often so the very affordable pricing to use it is definitely a factor.

Cons

Although, using it does make me want to rip my hair out at times. Midi import isn't an option as it completely messed up the project so I had to do it by hand. A 236 bar piece of music with 18 instruments is no easy feat. I like efficiency and I work fast, so even though the hot keys are good, the amount of times that Noteflight took minutes loading a bar was infuriating. If you have a quick notation piece to do and you're balling on a budget, then use it, other than that, find something else.

### "Great for students!"

November 3, 2018

5.0

Pros

I have the edu plan that integrates with MusicFirst and I love the way students can share their scores with me and I can help them edit the scores. The export features are great (it can even export directly to Soundtrap)! A feature I just recently discovered is the ability to use different colors. As a teacher this is great to mark different sections very clearly in a score for young students.

Cons

Many of the features are rather difficult to find and the software does have a bit of a learning curve. Also, I would really like an automatic numbering feature for verses of lyrics.

### "valuable cloud based music entry "

July 29, 2019

5.0

Noteflight is a great way to quickly notate musical examples in the classroom, make flexible scores for my performance groups, generate accompaniment tracks for rehearsal, and many other things. I love using it in both my school and church work.

Pros

I like the ease of entry in noteflight, and especially the cloud storage. I use several computers at my job and it's great having access to my scores in all of them.

Cons

I would like more flexibility in entering lyrics- I want to be able to edit the font size so that I can make melody/ lyric lines suitable for projection.

### "Noteflight Free"

February 3, 2023

5.0

Overall I have loved Noteflight. I have been using it since I was in college over 10 years ago as a music student. The ease of use and web based application is great!

Pros

I love the ease of use of Noteflight. I head up the music at our church and knowing that I have a free option to write out music or transpose a piece of music is great.

Cons

They limit the amount of instruments etc that you have access to on the free version. They also limit the amount of scores that you are able to save. All of that is understandable when on the free version and they do allow you to download your scores in a format that can be uploaded later on to keep editing them.

It's an overall easy thing for your scores/music but it was overrated it's just as good as fruity loops and it's a little difficult to go from fruity loops to this but overall good product

It don't have as many features as fruity loops unless you get premium but it's a overall good product I would suggest it but it's not what I expected everything I expected I should say it was hyped up more than it is fruity loops is just as good if not better

### "Simple Enough Notation App for Nonprofessionals"

December 12, 2018

5.0

As a piano teacher, I often want to give a student a specific type of scale exercise, or even notate their compositions. With persistence, I've been able to do those tasks, and even notate a couple of short compositions of my own. The longer I use it, the more efficient I get. While I have not tried inputting a score from a recording, the option is there. I continue notating one note at a time, using copy and paste to speed up my work. I have used NoteFlight for four years and I am satisfied enough to continue. I don't want to invest hours of time learning a more complex software when I can do what I need with NoteFlight.

Pros

Up and running immediately online with no app to download. I was able to create a very simple piano exercise and print it out in about an hour.

Cons

I would like to be able to add piano fingerings correctly. As of now, I have a lot of trouble doing so.

I think it is great although not many of my students ended up using it much.

Pros

Great simple software for notating music. Also can access the sheet music marketplace. With Noteflight learn you can set students assignments, get access to licensed music libraries and use soundcheck software which listens to your performance and can detect mistakes in your playing!

Cons

When I purchased it, I had thought I would be able to print the sheet music in the music library but you cannot.

Pros
