Management Restaurants Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Best all in one platform for HR responsibilities " December 20, 2022 5.0 Pros I absolutely love that in this one app I can do everything that I need to do for human resources. From employee onboarding, to payroll to employee scheduling. It has saved me a lot of money . Cons Sometimes I think less is more. It's great that toast payroll and team Management covers all these responsibilities, but sometimes I think it's just too much. And maybe be easier to have someone else do payroll. Also if there's a glitch or some kind of technical difficulty, then the whole system is down and then I do not have a backup one. It walks new employees through required paperwork and allows them to upload supporting documents through the site. Cons The instructions for users could be more simple and clear. As an employee, I struggled to understand what the onboarding was asking me to do, especially with tax forms. I had a harder time using toast to fill out tax onboarding forms than I do with the regular forms. Review Source AG Antavea G. HR Director Food & Beverages Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Good System for Company's that Don't Need Flexibility" February 18, 2026 2.0 Overall, a 2/5 stars due to some easily accessible features but not really having the flexibility or ease of use that would make using Toast worth it other than the fact that it integrates easily with Toast POS. Pros I like the simplified look of Toast Payroll and how easy it is to sync everything to the POS. Being able to easily go in and manage employees' information and make information manageable for their managers. I love that you can easily create a careers website and have some customizable features to showcase on the company's website. They answer customer service calls in a timely fashion not ever on hold. Cons Nothing is really customizable. There are specific reports that HR has to pull on a monthly or weekly basis and it is not easy to create reports with Toast. There is not flexibility with security permissions. Recruitment is not an easy process and does not integrate with other job boards other than the careers website for the company. The onboarding experience is nice for adding new users but it is difficult to create onboarding packets for different roles and you cannot add in fillable pdfs or other information that will flow into the employee's profile. Also, the signature feature for onboarding could use revamping. There is no place to add in quick notes about employee's to keep a running log. Also, it is hard to open an employee's profile and see their lifecycle at the company and why separation occurred without going to 20 different places to get the full story. Customer support is not that great either, they will answer your questions, but the solution typically is that they are not able to do what is asked and it's typically something that is a common ask for HR needs. Pros It is very comprehensive but not overwhelming like Quickbooks. The tech support is amazing. Cons 1\. We start getting reminder and "late" notices beginning Thursday but we do not run payroll until Monday.There is not really anything I don't like. " March 13, 2025 2.0 Currently using toast and toast payroll to complete daily tasks, time, and money management for myself personally and for my teams payroll through TOAST POS. Pros Has all of your tax forms, I’d, info, pay stubs, and hours all accessible if you are able to find it. Cons Extremely glitchy and hard to find different bits of info. It’s all there, it’s just a matter of figuring out how to access it all. Not a navigation friendly site. However TOAST’s frees for credit card processing have become absurd and I’m not sure we want to continue with them, but switching systems is a HUGE pain. KH Karen H. owner Food & Beverages Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Terrible Payroll System" October 13, 2022 1.0 They didn't enter employee correctly and especially the taxes. Ohio and West Virginia There is a reciprocity agreement between the state where your business is located and the state where this employee lives. To qualify for the reciprocity agreement, your employee must give you a Certificate of Nonresidence. They did not enter this correctly - which I clearly asked them to do and now they want to fine me for not having a WV tax id number - which i clearly dont need! This what I got in an email this morning I have reached out to our Tax Manager and he stands firm in that we do need a West Virginia State Withholding number. You, as an employer, do not pay taxes to West Virginia, but the Employee's who live there will - due to the reciprocity agreement. We withhold these from the Employee and remit them to the proper agencies. Here is a link that does go into more detail that our Tax Department was able to pass along. Pros NONE OF THEM - very difficult to use and doesn't sync like they say it does. Changing was the biggest mistake of my 7 years of business. Cons yes - get your stuff together and enter stuff correctly! Instead blaming the customer and try to make them do something they don't need to do - when you all failed to do your job. Reason for choosing Toast Payroll & Team Management Terrible decision didn't do my homework and read reviews! I would have never changed if I did my homework. Pros Toast Payroll is integrated with Toast POS, so running payroll is seamless. The historical data of previous pay cycles and multiple reports helps with future budgeting and planning. Any issues or questions that arise, a simple phone connects you with the nicest operators ever and fixes the problem. The tip manager is horrible to use, the time away from work function doesn't sync up to payroll and it'll deduct employees twice, most changes made on Payroll do not sync to POS and we constantly had issues with the benefit dashboard. Pros I liked the false feeling that I had in the beginning thinking that if we followed the instructions provided to us that there wouldn't be any mistakes. Cons We had a lot of W2s generated by Toast with incorrect earnings and tax information. They're also really slow to get back to you whenever there is an internal issue with the system. The support team at Stratex is usually very responsive and strong. Cons To be fair, Stratex is the only payroll/HR software that I have used, but the features and functionality of the system seems like it was built to handle only restaurants and trying to make their software handle the needs of a business that is not a restaurant has it's challenges at times. The roll out is taking longer than expected, and the overall product is clunkier than I'd prefer. The major selling point is that Stratex and Toast have a cozy relationship for an end goal of saving lots of time in HR and Admin departments. We will see. Pros Stratex integrates heavily with Toast, our POS as well as with payroll. That saves the admin team a lot of time! Stratex also helps with employee manuals and policies which will be a great addition to our business. Cons We had used BambooHR as our first ever HR software and it was really easy to navigate. Everything from tracking anniversaries and birthdays to timeoff and sick pay. There was a wonderful hiring portal too. Now we use stratex which I understand is high quality but it does not offer the ease of navigation and user friendly experience we got with BambooHR. I hope I'm just incurring a steep learning curve and that we will come out stronger on the other side. Review Source AC Angel C. Pros I like that it has applicant tracking, easy terminations to process, user-friendly from payroll to viewing pay history, expenses, and making any direct deposit changes. We transitioned to this platform from Trinet and I like a lot of the functionalities better. Cons For hourly employees, timesheets is not very user friendly. Edits, and time logging should be easier. Pros Nothing, It does not intigrate with toast properly for tips it Cons We have toast for our computer system in our restaurant. It works fine. But do not, I repeat do not use toast payroll. Its hard, they teach you once and then dont help again. Both systems do not talk to eachother. Its an accounting nightmare.
