Pros: The system has a pretty easy interface to enter in basic information such as personal information, checking, tax information, and updating benefits. The ESS system once setup, it is pretty great for the employees as they can choose benefits through open enrollment, update tax information and update their address information. The reporting is simple for standard reports and can be easily pulled in excel format so you are able to manipulate the spreadsheets.

Cons: The software is very outdated and has not been updated in several years. Other systems are light years ahead of this system as it looks like it is from the 1990's. The custom reporting is very clunky and hard to create any of these reports as there are many files to look into and no intelligent search functions. You can only pull the reports in excel format so there not other options such as CSV and PDF. The ESS section is also out of date and not very integrative to the HRIS system. The setup for benefits, tax and validations tables in the back end of the system is hard to recognize and makes it harder for complete setup. There is ACA integration as well and it makes it hard that you have to click on separate sections of the screen to look at information rather than clicking one repository to reach all of the information.

Overall: It is an ok system overall but there needs to be a huge update to the system to compete with it's competitors. The strong point is that most government contractor are using Deltek Time and Attendance since it is engineered for this industry so people are more likely to get the HRIS system to integrate easily with timesheets.

I have used Costpoint for 8 years. I have been able to learn a lot.

Pros: I love the versatility of this software. It does so much and we can pull a lot of different information. It's very detailed in most areas and we can hold notes as well. Since I work in payroll, I think that the people and payroll modules are most useful for me.

Cons: I really don't like that we can not accrue a non-cash fringe. We have asked and asked for this feature and it has never been considered. All our employees accrue fringe non-cash to use towards benefits.

I also don't like the way the employee garnishments are set up. Every time there is a change to a garnishment (such as the amount in a child support order), I have to stop the garnishment and set up a new one in order to preserve any history. It can be confusing for anyone else looking at someone's file. Also, the note field is to small, doesn't hold enough information for the order (like children or custodial parents) that used to be included in Costpoint 6. I was disappointed when this was removed.

Overall: Reporting, payroll, versatility, project reporting and capture, labor capture

Pros: The application is very powerful and very flexible which allows you to set things up for your business as simply or as complex as you would like. The ability to enter everything only once and capture all the data needed to properly allocate all of your Fringe / Overhead / G&A or Material & Handling Cost Pools is critical to being able to prepare DCAA / DCMA compliant Invoices, DCAA Disclosure Statements and Incurred Cost Submissions. Every module that you add on automatically links with the existing Accounting data so no extra steps are needed to get different modules to talk to one another.

Cons: Not always easy to tell if or when a patch is needed to update a specific module. Don't really know anything is needed until you run into an error message. Sometimes it is hard to update or patch just the application that is giving you problems because fixes can cover more then one application.

Pros: The flexibility it provides. With both private and public clients, we are required to provide invoices to clients in many different formats, and some project setups can be quite complicated. Costpoint allows us the flexibility we need to manage our projects effectively and also meet our client's needs. We also love the extensibility tool introduced with Costpoint 7 that has allowed us to customize the software in order to enforce many of our internal procedures and business rules.

Cons: Because of it's flexibility, it can be complicated, which leads to errors. We hear from our new users that systems they worked on previously provided more of a standard workflow that guided them through the project setup process. We realize this is very difficult to do with some many different project setup requirements, and we've tried to accomplish some of this through the extensibility tool.

Comments: Overall, if you are in the government contracting industry, CostPoint is as reliable as a software as any out there. With its wide acceptance across the industry, it is a extremely useful software to be familiar with.

Pros: CostPoint is an extremely powerful and a widely used accounting software. One of its best features is the ability to accommodate a diverse set of accounting and financial needs and the innate ability to run seamless interfaces with other Deltek products such as T&E and Cognos. It's relatively easy to use and can be picked up by most users quickly.

Cons: Costpoint lags behind its competitor in the innovation it offers it's users and customers. They software updates are infrequent and often do not result in any major updates and upgrades. There are also many areas of functionality within Costpoint that seem to be offer duplicity and could be improved.

Pros: I'm still looking. Give me more time, I'm sure it's there somewhere. My accounting department sold this to the company as an upgrade.

Cons: Ok. My firm used to use the time & expense for timekeeping and concur for expenses; great user experience there. Then we switched to costpoint 60 days ago. It reminds me of a slapped together MS Access database. The interface is awful, just awful. Why didn't Deltek just keep the time/expense user interface? Deltek Time/Expesne had mobile options, I've yet to find that for costpoint (..come back, your going the wrong way!!). As a manager, approving sheets is no picnic either and heaven for bit I want to look at an employee across 2 pay periods (deltek expense you clicked an arrow, costpoint you double or triple your clicks for the same task). And then there's the Expense module in costpoint, oh my. I have no idea what I'm looking at sometimes. You have to download the attachments to view them instead of opening inline for quick reference (clunky). There doesn't seem to be any sort of natural workflow for the expense reports. There's a bunch of links and buttons that I don't need. And why not just have an approval button for managers? All I've ever found is a "perform selected task" button. Not intuitive at all from a company that aims at setting the pace. Or.... maybe my firm botched the rollout?

Pros: It was real easy to get around the system and work in different windows.

Cons: Paid when Paid never worked correctly, never could get a reason why.

Overall: I first used Deltek using CostPoint. I found it relatively easy to get around. It was pretty clean cut. The only issue I may have had was how the paid when paid worked, it never seemed to work right. The consultant helping us set up really didn't know what she was doing, and never came back to tell us her findings after she took notes and said she would look into it. Then I left that company and started using Vision. It was real easy to convert having worked in CostPoint.

Recommendations to other buyers: I think the Deltek products are great. Every software is different and has their own issues in different ways that one person may like and another may not.

The system is very straight forward and easy to navigate.

Pros: From an HR standpoint, the system is very easy to use and well thought out. The reporting is easy to do for mandatory compliance. It makes our jobs easier. We just starting using the Talent Management last year for applicant tracking and onboarding. Once we go live with the integration from Talent Management to Costpoint, it will create efficiencies for HR and payroll departments.

Cons: Once some is entered and saved in someone's record. It can be hard to remove that person. There also seems to be a lot of hotfixes, but it does make the system better in the long run.

Overall: It meets all my HR Technology needs.

Cons: The amount of keystroking required to complete a simple task is staggering. It takes hours to complete a simple task that should only take minutes to complete due to the number of separate steps required. It's like working with 1970's technology. The system will not allow even minimal customization, i.e. menu fonts/set-ups. I would rather work in an old DOS program than this one.

Recommendations to other buyers: There isn't anything I like about this product. There haven't been any program updates in the 10 years I've been working with it. We recently switched from Costpoint 6 to Costpoint 7 expecting to gain at least some program improvements.....NOTHING!!

Pros: Our end-users generally have zero complaints with the software. We use it for everything from purchasing and receiving to HR functions.

Cons: I'm not a fan of the new update model they have rolled out with 7.1.1. It seems there are constant updates and, unlike previous versions where you only installed the updates you needed to fix a particular issue, they now expect ALL updates to be installed. I realize they are trying to get away from the need for major revision upgrades by doing this but the load on the IT department is WAY more than it used to be for day-to-day operations.

Comments: Deltek pushes this ERP solution to all Government Contractors now, no matter the size of the business. As a GovCon accounting/business system SME, I would not recommend this system to businesses with less than 100 FTE / 5M annual revenue.

Pros: The Costpoint ERP system is well integrated depending on the features/add-ons you purchase. It drives compliant practices if you've set it up correctly.

Cons: Setup and maintenance is not for the average user. Training is a bit scarce unless you hire a consultant. Very expensive if you want full integration. Support from the manufacturer is fair at best.

Pros: Project and indirect rate applicaton accounting & reporting

Cons: Much more expensive than comparable solutions. Extremely high lifecycle expense. You will buy this software every year with maintenance. And growing is expensive with employee based fees.

Overall: Costpoint sets the standard for project accounting and indirect rate application and reporting. But Costpoint has none of the features that users love in other ERP systems, like drill down reports, modifiable reports, paperless processing, budget setup, easy bank reconciliations, etc. Users of Quickbooks, Dynamics and others will miss these features.

Pros: I always like how easy it is to use. I create favorites so I don't even have to search for the right codes - they're just right there. And the web pages load very quickly on our awful work computers!

Cons: Depending on how your company set it up, it can be confusing to find your codes initially... but all they have to do is give them to you and then it's super easy.

Overall: Deltek helps us take care of our timesheets in short order, with very helpful search and report functions to boot.

Pros: The platform is decently organized by Employee/Salary information and Leave information - managing either is simple and the accrual process is easy as well. I manage employee data and leave data but I am not an expert on any of the other system capabilities.

Cons: We've had issues with file feeds that have taken a long time to resolve. There are a few manual processes that need to be done during the accrual process that seem like they should be automated (i.e. removing duplicate beginning balance records when an employee goes from one type of leave to another in the same year).

Pros: Allows us to meet government requirements both in CLIN, ACRN and contract limitations.

Cons: Does not maintain Zero Invoices that are required by DCMA, The retroactive rate adjustments still need improvements to work in the system.

Comments: If you miss the 90's, Costpoint is the product for you. Inspired by timeless Windows Vista design this is a "glossy buttons and drop-shadows" galore. Escape your mundane day-to-day activity, and embark on an adventure trying to log your hours.

Pros: It's nice to talk to someone out of my department once in a while. Since the product is not usable, I get a lot of help from our accounting.

Cons: I can't think of a product more "Frankenstein" than this ... it's a collection of fragmented features. Terrible usability, poor design and implementation including: 1. Tracking hours is overly complex 2. Help is lacking or outdated 3. Interface/workflow design is terrible (full of meaningless popups, lacks instructions, poor labels) 4. Update Password workflow is unnecessarily complex

Pros: This software is useful, when it works, to bill time for which I will get paid (hopefully). That's about it (and the former requirements aren't being met to guarantee that outcome).

Cons: I used deltek about 6 years ago and now again (it's changed for the worse). Always had a single charge code to worry about, so that's easy. That said, basic functions of this iteration (account set-up, log-in from various browsers, password reset, etc.) are abysmal. I've had to contact my company at least once a day regarding issues simply logging into my sheet (various browsers, two different computers) and once just to find my charge code. Corporate always has to get involved or intervene. This is supposed to be a timekeeping system for logging hours you get paid for. Who is paying for all the work to deal with the problems of this unreliable software? It shouldn't take me numerous attempts across different browsers and devices to access an application with a single username, password, and domain log-in. My company shouldn't have to "help" its employees enter in their own time.

Pros: Hard edits prevent people from making many of the mistakes we saw with our paper-based system, the approvals are automated and done electronically

Cons: You can't have more than one window open at a time (unlike CostPoint).

Overall: We moved from an Excel, paper-based expense reporting system to Deltek and it has drastically reduced the number of errors we see (and the number of expense reports we send back to employees for revisions). We are spending less time processing expense reports and employees are getting paid faster. Like any new software, there's been a learning curve with our users but overall, most people prefer this system over our old method of reporting.

Recommendations to other buyers: Make your workflows as simple as possible during set up! It's much easier to add to a workflow than it is to remove steps from the workflow

Pros: Good product that continues to evolve. The customer experience is excellent and their annual conference is a great opportunity to learn more about how to better use the product.

Cons: Some things, like expense reporting are lacking. They are making progress, but this is one area that needs improvement.

Comments: I have been using Deltek products for over 20 years and have witnessed the tremendous growth the company has undergone over the years. I have used Advantage, Impromptu, T&E, and Costpoint. I have seen Costpoint grow from a 'DOS' screen to the more user friendly application that it is today. I do appreciate the ease of use and navigation that has been incorporated into the system. I would like to see more flexibility in the reporting but I understand that other tools fill that requirement. In terms of customer service, I think cases should be evaluated more in detail prior to assigning them to case workers. Often times, we've detailed an issue that we were having and have had customer support fall a little short of solving the problem before moving it to a more seasoned person to assist. By the time that has occurred, precious time has passed. Overall, Deltek products are an essential part of the government contractor community, well done Deltek!

Comments: Our company implemented a suite of products including Costpoint and Time and Expense approximately 3 years ago. After seeing applied changes and specific product roadmaps at Deltek Insight 2016, I'm excited about the direction of system improvements and enhancements to functionality and features that are either a reality now or coming in the very near future!

Pros: Web-based - accessibility anytime, anywhere. Ease-of-use over Oracle products I've used elsewhere. Customer support engagement through various channels.

Recommendations to other buyers: Make sure that you do an internal assessment of how ready your company is for change as this will facilitate knowing when it's a business process decision versus a system design or configuration topic (consulting hours are precious); dedicate resources for change management, marketing/communication and training and ensure that Executive Management is not only tuned in, but engaged throughout the process.

Comments: We began using Costpoint since 1998 after converting from System 1 which was implemented in 1986... In general terms the overall capabilities of the system are excellent, but it has not been without bumps in the road. The current version 7.0.1 has reached a good level of stability, something that the was a hallmark of 6.2. Some of the architectural decisions created continual upgrade problems and ultimately led us to a slowdown of our upgrade process. So, while the web version has some good new features, we hope Deltek will continue to return to a stronger, more stable product

Pros: Overall capabilities are excellent...extensibility is a KEY feature to add your own capabilities.

Cons: Customer support was lacking for the new version....it has gotten better, but there is always room for improvement.

Recommendations to other buyers: Talk to existing users....understand your needs...insure you have a good understanding of the solution.

Comments: I first implemented Deltek's Costpoint 14 years ago. It was a huge, complex system back then. But there are advantages to the complexities, highly customizable and capable of handling the regulations and policies of government contracting. Deltek has taken the product and reinvented it time and time again to provide increase functionality and more integration to other necessary products. I'm proud to have Costpoint experience on my resume and I feel it brings my resume added value.

Pros: Complex, not just anyone can jump in an use it. You have to understand it to fully appreciate its complexity. Excellent for handling the government contracting requirements without the necessity of dozens of spreadsheets.

Cons: Complex, hard to train new employees. When it breaks it can be frustrating to get an answer.

Comments: I use Costpoint to add parts, create MBOM's and create DCN's for change management.

Pros: I like the cloning feature

Cons: I would like the DCN process when updating MBOM's to be more user friendly. There are too many options (Add, Change, Remove, Delete, etc.), and then also the same options on the next screen to do the same. When doing the same, it doesn't always mean the same :( This feature could be fine tuned. I would also like to see the MBOM process to be automated from our Teamcenter ePIC system to Costpoint. This will eliminate duplication of effort, and lessen the chance of error.

Recommendations to other buyers: Costpoint is a great system, but needs more work on the engineering portion to make things easier for the user.

You can't save an expense report unless everything is perfect and the error messages are often vague and not helpful. The system is extremely buggy. The workflow tab only reads one attachment per expense. Sometimes it reads the wrong attachment. I also found a bug that the wrong per diem rate was listed.

Pros: Use on a daily/weekly basis to track project costs and status. Very valuable. Able to create weekly reports that provide most of what I need.

Cons: Our implementation seems very clunky. It is difficult to get the reports that I need easily... and seems to required Specialist attention.

Costpoint learning curve was scary at first, but was easy to navigate once we delved in.

Cons: Not being properly trained. The learning curve was difficult as I didn't have 1 on 1 training. I also don't understand some capabilities.

Comments: Coming from GCS to Costpoint the depth that we can now get information from is amazing.

Pros: Having the ability to keep multiple period open at once is convenient. It allows us the chance to make sure that our data is correct before moving on. The increase in the number of available characters in our project numbers really helps in the organization process.

Cons: The increase in the number of steps to get our information out of costpoint seems unnecessary.

Recommendations to other buyers: I recommend getting a integration company that understands your needs and what you really want out of the software.

Comments: I just completed the demo of the Deltek CostPoint SaaS offering. The product looks great and would probably be of great help to my business, but is ridiculously overpriced. CostPoint is priced based on the number of employees. For 60 employees, I was told I would have to pay a high annual fee that does not include add-ons. NOTE: This is sold as a SaaS solution, but Deltek requires the entire annual fee up front. In addition, I was told that the setup, data migration, and training would be handled by a 3rd party via a T&M contract and typically costs 1.5 times the annual fee. This is not a solution for a small business.

Recommendations to other buyers: Stick with QuickBooks as long as you can.

Comments: We have had some recent not so positive experience with Support - being told for almost everything to apply the latest patches when they can't show us where in the patches it is going to fix our problem is not encouraging. After working through all the Hot Fix applications - we still have the problem - so, being to to apply them did not help. (Just a bit discouraging.)

Pros: We love the Web version and capabilities - looking forward to Extensibility

Cons: Changing support staff, getting someone from the other side of the world and having to wait until the next evening to get a call back.

Pros: Once you learn how to enter your hours it's not too bad. Trying to request vacation time on the other hand, horrible.

Cons: The interface looks like a hastily assembled college project made with Access. The leave section looks like they actually tried to make it as un-intuitive as they could. The theory in our office is that it's a feature that discourages employees from requesting time off. I almost can't put into words how backwards this software is.

Comments: As a new user to Costpoint, I have been impressed by the depth of the Costpoint product and it's capabilities. We have barely begun to scratch the surface of the capabilities of the product, but it currently handles all of our projects and proposals and is the heartbeat of our business.

Pros: Depth of product Customer support is great

Cons: Finding where data lives in the database can be tough

Recommendations to other buyers: This product can do everything you need it to do and more. In fact if there is a downside it is that ti is too big and too deep for what a company may need.

Comments: Having used Costpoint and Time & Expense since 2008, I'm comfortable and confident with the breadth of the tools' functionality, as well as the critically important support provided by Deltek.

Pros: I most appreciate the stability of the processes built into the products.

Cons: As the products have evolved, they've unavoidably become complex, which makes for a large amount of details with which to become familiar.

Recommendations to other buyers: Read the application documentation within the tools, and reach out to Deltek support for advice.

Comments: We went live January 1 2016, so we are a new user. The implementation was painful as any implementation would be. However, once the system was up and running, we were able to successfully run the business. Support has been helpful. When set up properly, the system runs great.

Pros: Once you know all the steps it is pretty simple to use.

Cons: Lots of steps to complete a process. Our month end close is 100 steps.

Recommendations to other buyers: Plan and test before implementation. Make sure to pick an implementation consultant that matches your needs.

Pros: Powerful and good accounting functions. Time and expense works the best. Having it be recognized as great government accounting software should make our annual audit go smoother.

Cons: Not sure about both sides of GL entries. We didn't get a broad overview at the beginning and that has led to difficulty in administration. Pools are hard to troubleshoot.

Comments: We went on Costpoint in 2009 from three separate ERPs. Project went well and we went live in less then 18 months. Fast forward 2 years and we acquired another business. We were able to move them to Costpoint in less than 12 months and under budget

Pros: Project Accounting

Cons: Advanced Budgeting cumbersome and requires an interface. I believe Deltek has a new product out to address

Comments: Deltek CostPost is a very efficient accounting tool. It allowed us to add our accounting approval process in the form of an extensibility. This process was tedious and was completely external. With this addition it allows us to have all accounting approvals under one umbrella. Very happy with this product

Cons: The updates are sometime self defeating
