It also makes it easy to tag billed hours to the right budget/funding codes. You can see approval logs and editing if ever you make a mistake is possible. Cons There are too many clickable buttons that can be confusing for first-time users. But I guess that is the case always when using new software. November 17, 2021 5.0 I used this program daily to track my hours worked for each pay period. It was pretty easy to use and did not take much time out of my day. Pros This program was very simple to use to track your hours worked. It was efficient, easy, and did not take much time to learn or to use it daily. There is a massive learning curve and the system just is clunky and very hard to use. The only reason to use Costpoint is when a company I'm employed with forces me to use it. Chemical Engineer Oil & Energy Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "A simple concept is complicated and user time is wasted with Deltek" August 15, 2019 2.0 Stuck with it so obviously I am using it but I figured I would help other organizations make better choices for their employees. Pros It doesn't crash or freeze up, I have to give credit that their server connections and implementations are proper. So it doesnt crash during use, although logins sometimes get delayed due to some cookie issues. Cons Ah where do I start. No clear user interface set up method. It has a bunch of poorly worded menus and some other buttons and a whole lot of unnecessary "Query" buttons. For most users, the goal is select a charge code, pick the day of week, add the hours and save, At the end of week, they sign the sheet. Simple, right? But not, Deltek makes the whole process of actually finding the "timesheet" and adding a line to it pretty convoluted. Note I didnt say complicated because it is not. But a simple process is converted to a random goose chase through multiple menu locations, clicks, searches and then selections. Picking a project code yay.. click on random looking glass icon or square faded blue icons and search, leave codes -- search through layered menus and then figure out what to add. Use -ve and + signs on user side, because the geniuses that built this software couldn't figure it on their side. Review Source RH Randall H. Software Engineer Defense & Space Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Easy to use once you get the hang of it" December 17, 2018 4.0 Overall I think Deltek is a solid tool and I would not mind continuing to use the software, however I've worked at other places that have had better or at least more user-friendly timekeeping systems. Pros As a user, my only involvement with Deltek is entering my hours on a daily basis after work. It took some fiddling around but once I got the hang of it, it was pretty straight forward to log my data. The tool allows you to see how much holiday or PTO balance you have as well as allowing you to access your paystub. These were things that my company previously had as separate systems, so it's nice that they're all together now. Cons It was hard to familiarize myself with the tool at first as it seems all the basic functions for simply entering my time data is hidden under various levels of menus. I don't know if it's merely because of the way my company configured the tool, but I haven't figured out how to print things, especially my paystub. I think that's incredibly important for the employer. Cons One thing I don't like about Deltek is how specific it is. At least in my experience, it doesn't allow up to two decimal points on the timesheet. This normally wouldn't be a problem, but whenever I track it, it would tell me that it can't track it because it differs from what I put in. For instance, if I worked 7.75 hours, I would try to track it as 7.7 or 7.8, but it won't accept it. Review Source HJ Hosan J. Most of the features on Deltek is intuitive and easy to use. When transferring data from Deltek to Excel, it is easy to transfer. Pros Customer service. Especially zoom meeting to resolve issues. May 2, 2017 5.0 Reporting, payroll, versatility, project reporting and capture, labor capture Pros I love the versatility of this software. It does so much and we can pull a lot of different information. It's very detailed in most areas and we can hold notes as well. Since I work in payroll, I think that the people and payroll modules are most useful for me. Cons I really don't like that we can not accrue a non-cash fringe. We have asked and asked for this feature and it has never been considered. All our employees accrue fringe non-cash to use towards benefits. I also don't like the way the employee garnishments are set up. Every time there is a change to a garnishment (such as the amount in a child support order), I have to stop the garnishment and set up a new one in order to preserve any history. It can be confusing for anyone else looking at someone's file. Also, the note field is to small, doesn't hold enough information for the order (like children or custodial parents) that used to be included in Costpoint 6. I was disappointed when this was removed. What sets this software apart from others, is the tools available to customize the software using Extensibility. HR analyst Defense & Space Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Deltek Costpoint Review" November 18, 2018 3.0 It has been a decent system overall but there is a lack of customization, predictive features, poor reporting features and no updates for several years so other HRIS systems are way ahead of this particular system. Pros It is a pretty simple to use software for HRIS data and has a lot of fields to enter. It is great that there is a reporting system to allow for standard and custom reports. There is an immediate entry into the system once changes are made so it is great to get an immediate response. Cons There are several cons with the system. First, it has not been updated over several years and no upgrades have been made to keep up with the times. It feels like the system is dated back to the 1980's. There is no predictive searches for employees, there are too many windows for different types of employee data so it is hard to find certain employee data. The reporting is also hard to create custom reports as you have to understand extensive knowledge of Cognos, hard to search fields for employee data and it is clunky. There are no workflows or business rules that can be setup in order to allow for notifications for certain events regarding employee self service. Review Source WF Will F. My accounting department sold this to the company as an upgrade. Cons Ok. My firm used to use the time & expense for timekeeping and concur for expenses; great user experience there. Then we switched to costpoint 60 days ago. It reminds me of a slapped together MS Access database. The interface is awful, just awful. Why didn't Deltek just keep the time/expense user interface? Deltek Time/Expesne had mobile options, I've yet to find that for costpoint (..come back, your going the wrong way!!). As a manager, approving sheets is no picnic either and heaven for bit I want to look at an employee across 2 pay periods (deltek expense you clicked an arrow, costpoint you double or triple your clicks for the same task). And then there's the Expense module in costpoint, oh my. I have no idea what I'm looking at sometimes. You have to download the attachments to view them instead of opening inline for quick reference (clunky). There doesn't seem to be any sort of natural workflow for the expense reports. There's a bunch of links and buttons that I don't need. And why not just have an approval button for managers? All I've ever found is a "perform selected task" button. Not intuitive at all from a company that aims at setting the pace. Or.... maybe my firm botched the rollout? Pros I always like how easy it is to use. I create favorites so I don't even have to search for the right codes - they're just right there. And the web pages load very quickly on our awful work computers! Cons Depending on how your company set it up, it can be confusing to find your codes initially... but all they have to do is give them to you and then it's super easy. Review Source BS Brant S. The query function is a great way to filter info. Cons The standard reports are very poor. I wonder if they consulted actual users and asked what they needed. It is an easy system to use and little training to be able to know how to use (very user friendly). Pros I like the display for the calendar, it is easy to add a new line for additional hours billed and keep track all hours. I also think it is easy to navigate the branching time charge. Some companies have a very complicated branching system making it very difficult to locate the correct time charge to add. Cons I think it would be helpful if time off, holidays, sick leave was able to be displayed from the main timesheet. It would make a one stop location to have all the information in one place compared to opening up other tabs to trying to locate your balances. Pros The software had great reports. It's payroll portion was very easy to understand and navigate while processing biweekly checks. Cons The software is not user friendly. Ceo Accounting Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Read your contract very very carefully " March 5, 2022 1.0 It’s our fault that we did not read the contract at least 5 times. Our implementation date is scheduled for April, but they started to charge us from Jan, right after the contract is signed. Their recommended implementation team needs three month to move data from quickbooks to cost point. When they did the sales show, they stated clearly ( unfortunately we did not record it) that the invoice will start from the day after full implantation. Guess what, in their contract, they directed you to refer to another document, and if you trace to that document, it states that you need to refer to another document. Oh. Well. We now have to bite the bullet. But I hope my review can help others to avoid this mistake. I am counting days to the end of this contract. I am not going to do amy other business with Deltek. None! It offers a lot of features suitable for government contractors. Companies that rely heavily on projects and reporting will find the system very suitable for their requirements. Cons Very complex. The system requires a lot of hands-on interaction to become proficient. The integration is great, but with it comes a steep learning curve.
