Overall it's pretty good. It definitely helps me get the job done. Occasional errors but not too often.

Pros

Kipu's documentation management is pretty good. I can easily locate and access all the documents I require.

Cons

Things disappear off assessments and other documents after I submit them. I get documents sent back for revision and an entire text box will be empty when I go over my work several times before submitting.

Pros

I really like the security, clinical information, and patient management aspects of this software and a lot of options were available for interdisciplinary team members.

Cons

My least favorite aspects about Kipu software was that it was kind of difficult to navigate at the beginning, it wasn't very intuitive interface and had a high learning curve that other teammates had to teach me to use.

i just don't get why it's so confusing with different logins and bugs. support doesn't help out. i'm going to switch to bestnotes or something else idk.

Pros

The support used to be great but has gotten much worse over time. I wish it was the old support representatives but we keep getting swapped around.

Cons

Price. I feel like i'm getting hounded to pay more for more add-ons. Did they change owners or something? also why are there separate logins for the RCM and EMR??? and i heard the CRM is also a separate login.

Overall, my experience with Kipu has been positive. It’s a powerful and flexible system that does a great job supporting behavioral health workflows and improving organization-wide efficiency. While there are some areas that could be more streamlined, the benefits and functionality make it a strong solution for practices in this space.

Pros

Kipu is very well designed for behavioral health and addiction treatment settings, which makes documentation, scheduling, and treatment planning feel more aligned with real clinical workflows. The platform offers strong customization options and useful features like integrated billing, reporting, and patient management tools, helping streamline operations and improve efficiency. Overall, it’s a comprehensive, all-in-one system that supports both clinical and administrative needs.

Cons

One downside is the cost structure, which can feel high and somewhat fragmented with multiple add-ons and fees. Some features—like treatment planning—can be complex and take time to fully learn or use effectively. Additionally, certain workflows may require extra steps, which can slow things down at times.

Their customer service is great is you have a support member assigned to you. If not, you have access to customize and troubleshot as a super admin, and it is user friendly to be able to use.

Pros

That it is so customizable. If you are a super admin, you can create templates however you would like, specific to each area, and can be used for numerous disciplines.

Cons

It can feel a little clunky to use, which takes additional time when charting. However you can use check box options to get around this.

Kipu is a secure software to use and one that keeps you updated. It has many options so you are not stranded.

Pros

I’ve been using Kipu for our behavioral health documentation, and overall it has been a positive experience. The system is designed specifically for addiction and mental health treatment, which makes charting and treatment planning more straightforward compared to general EHR platforms. I appreciate the structured templates and the ability to customize notes to fit our workflow.

Cons

There was a bit of a learning curve at first, but once the team became familiar with it, documentation became more efficient. It has helped us stay organized and maintain compliance. While no system is perfect, Kipu has been a reliable solution for our needs.

As a small behavioral health practice managing multiple clinical and pseudo-clinical roles for approximately 400 patients, Kipu provided valuable tools in billing and customization that supported our operational needs. However, the lack of intuitive task management and integration features often complicated daily workflows, requiring workarounds that reduced efficiency. The treatment plan module was particularly underutilized due to its complexity. Overall, while the system has targeted strengths, the escalating costs proved unsustainable, prompting us to evaluate alternatives despite the initial benefits in specific areas.

Pros

Robust Billing Sweeps: Kipu excels in its billing sweeps feature, which streamlines the process of identifying and processing outstanding claims, making revenue cycle management more efficient for behavioral health practices. Extensive Customization Options: The platform allows for nearly limitless customization of the instance and documents, enabling practices to tailor workflows, forms, and interfaces to specific needs without significant limitations.

Cons

Absence of a Dedicated To-Do List: The user interface lacks a straightforward to-do list feature. While there is a dashboard, it is somewhat buried and requires extensive filtering to display relevant information, failing to effectively remind users of tasks like missed notes or cosign requests. Disconnected Appointment and Documentation Integration: Calendar and appointment data do not automatically sync with documentation fields, such as date of service or time. This results in forms auto-populating with the current date and time, leading to manual corrections and added frustration during documentation. Challenging Treatment Plan Functionality: The built-in treatment plan tool is complex and not user-friendly, rendering it largely ineffective for practical use in a small practice setting. High and Fragmented Costs: Pricing is a major drawback, with multiple layered subscriptions (e.g., base, billing, and EMR) combined with per-item fees for claims, statements, ERAs, reminder texts, and more. For a practice with around 400 patients, this averaged $10,000 per month, which can be financially burdensome and feel like incremental nickel-and-diming.

For me as an admin person, I really love Kipu. I love the ability to create and edit my own forms. I loved that I was able to learn a lot on the back end.

Pros

I like how I was able to build or edit my own forms. I love the chat feature. I like how the nurses can order and send prescriptions within the the same place. I love the dashboard and the filters on the side bar.

Cons

No cons for me at this moment. I know billing and other departments have some issues within the system.

I would recommend kipu over other EMR systems.

Pros

The very easy to use system. It wasn’t hard to catch on either.

Cons

The constant hiccups with the system and the rate at it moving slowly at times
