July 8, 2019 5.0 Pros This software is extremely powerful and for the price it is great for the professional or the hobbyist that wants to draw and create professional drawings. Cons There are a few things that could make the drafting experience more seamless and productive like being able to set the screen size when new documents are open and keystrokes that take you from typing the size of objects back to the drawing cursors. Review Source Response from Microspot December 18, 2020 Hi Talis, Thank you for the review! You can add subscript and superscript via the Text menu, CMD + T will open all of the text options for you. Gradients are saved a document level, however, what you can do is add you gradient to a rectangle and add that rectangle to your library. In a new document, drag that rectangle from your library to the document and the gradients panel will automatically update to add that new gradient to it for use. I hope this helps! Used every day Pros I have used this software - McDraft - since it came out in 80's ? It is very user friendly and great for layouts. Cons Getting prints to others has been an effort. August 15, 2017 5.0 Easy of use Pros Macdraft is so much easier to learn and use than AutoCad. In my work I do mostly wiring diagrams, but the occasional plan and elevation view drawings to scale. Macdraft is always my go-to tool! Cons The only thing I've had difficulty with is that unlike other CAD software such as AutoCad where you are drawing to full size in virtual space and the software is always scaling to fit the paper size you select, Macdraft requires you to make that choice when you start the drawing. This is really only an issue when I need to send my drawings back and forth with an architect that is using AutoCad. Also, depending on the scale you choose, then smallest unit of measurement selectable seems to change. In software that draws full size in virtual space, this does not happen. I appreciate the simplicity. Pros simplicity Cons still some bugs. The app crashes regularly. I have made my own macro which auto saves my files every 5 minutes because the app crashes so often. There are bugs in text handling. Sometimes when I highlight text it dissappears and cannot be read. I don't use any other drawing or drafting software - which isn't necessary for my position as a principal and owner of my firm. There's no better software for creating effective "bubble diagrams", and easily evolving those diagrams into initial plans. It's terrific to use in real time with clients to manipulate the plan. I then use MacDraft to work with staff created CAD drawings to develop the projects. I really need no other "CAD" software for the work I do. Pros Read Review Review Source JB John B. The fact that this company stuck with the Mac platform during the lean years. Cons The fact that Microspot does not keep a fresh download available for reinstallation. Having a short window of download availability is very inconvenient. It's like ancient history to have to keep a "back-up" copy of your purchased installer. "Where's that floppy disk?" June 18, 2019 4.0 I am an Interior Designer and have used MacDraft Pro for both commercial and residential projects for many years. It is my go to software for floor plans, elevations, furniture placement etc. Pros MscDraft Pro 7.0 loads faster is more stable and has many additional features than earlier versions. Cons The new layout took a little time to locate all the features. This was a minor inconvenience compared to the boast in speed, stability improvement and added features. We wanted to make sure you were aware that MacDraft Pro 6.2 can read .mdd files which is MacDrafts old file format, it can also read DWG files which are AutoCad's native format. I’ve done all the upgrades after starting with the Personal Edition and then going to the pro edition. Pros I like how much you can do with this software and the depths it goes on being a full fledged CAD program Cons I absolutely hate the way the screen does not go back to what I was working on when I change a tool or add an option. It drives me nuts! I’m sure 3D rendering is in the works. I’d love to draw a landscape and then be able to fly through it or look around it. I only bought the upgrade to v.7 to correct this problem. The subtraction tool will now work, but not when you place an ellipse over another object. Pros I like the user friendly interface and the wide assortment of tools. Cons There is no telephone support. With no printed manual, the online PDF file should have hot links to the topics covered. I just wanted to point out that we do indeed have telephone support, you can find the info on the contact us page at http://www.microspot.com/about\_us/contact\_us.htm We do plan on releasing the manual as a printed companion guide in the near future, hopefully you registered your interest when we sent out the mailer about it, for now you can use cmd + F to search the PDF manual. Some customers have opened the link to the PDF manual on their phone or iPad and used it that way until the physical version is released, maybe that would help? The rotated ellipse subtraction bug is still being looked into. There have been many updates over the years. This version works well. This is a simple program and is relatively easy to use. I find it very helpful in examining construction details and refining designs. Cons This version has a few bugs that are annoying but can be worked around. Pros The new tool and drawing control layout is superb. The overall design and functionality has no peer in the Mac world. Cons Took me a bit to adjust to the new feature enabling a pointer with a left-click instead of right-click. Pros I love the fact that I can quickly make a small drawing to get dimensions on an ongoing project and I can create professional drawings for clients for both giving them a visual and for submitting for permits. Cons As a limited user, I often have to look up how to do some of the more complex moves to achieve the drawing I’m trying to do. Pros The UI looks nice and - after some getting used to - the app is quite easy to use. Cons There are several flaws: - Snapping lines/objects to other objects doesn't work flawlessly, especially when you've created objects consisting of parallel lines (think of a floor plan and the walls). The app is (for example) at times unable to correctly snap objects to the inside or outside border of such objects, whereas its middle is recognized. It is also often impossible to align objects to such inside/outside borders. - There is no easy way to select individual objects if they are stacked on top of each other, making it extremely difficult to change objects later on. - Extruding lines from objects sometimes distorts and moves the objects. This happens when you extrude from corners. - At times, the undo feature simply doesn't work and you're out of luck if you haven't saved your document before. - Copying and pasting objects from one layer to another changes their relative position. - Zooming should be possible using standard finger gestures on a Mac - but this isn't supported Review Source JT John T. July 12, 2019 5.0 Even though I have needs from time to time for my CNC Router I find because of my familiarity with MacDraft and its ease of use, that I start the design in Macdraft and then convert the output for a 3D program to generate my machine code. Pros Ease of use for the majority of the quick design projects and layouts I need. Cons I have used MacDraft from it's inception so this version is taking a little extra time to get used to changes. It is very intuitive for both early users and old hands. DXF export is successful for transferring files to a shop that does laser-cut stainless panels, and to several others who do fabricated tanks for us. It works as expected. December 30, 2020 4.0 A diverse comparison perhaps but whether it be cars or drafting software - it is a dubious exercise to make direct comparisons I have found. One car might be roomier and faster than the second which in turn might be better optioned and more economical - so it is with CAD items. Pros It is tried and tested and I have found it reliable. The latest version has added features although the value of some and the absence of others is a dilemma. Cons It is often the small features which one might miss when moving from one software to another and this is a classic example of that - there are woerk-around options to some but only time will tell. Am glad it has switched to 64bit as I have a new mac this year. Have not used it enough yet for a full review but glad It is still simple to use. Pros New Interface is good. Have used Macdraft for well over twenty years in its previous forms. New interface took a bit of getting used to but is similar enough to the previous versions to be able to mostly find what I need. I did not want to have to go through he process of learning a completely new application; I just don't have time for that. Looks nice and has some extra goodies that I have to experiment with. Cons Change from old interface which I had got used to for a long time. But new interface is not that big a struggle. It just slows me down. This works fine and great for me, my customers love the details drawings they receive. I'm now so familiar with the software that I designed my own house which also worked great. Pros Easy to use, fast and many features for non a technical guy like me. Cons Some issues with the parameters for the angle of a line, when not entered correct you have to restart the program. It has all of the features I need to do engineering drawings. Converting DWG drawings from a PC using Autocad hybrid orgs well except the test scatters. I have been using drawing over 15 year old that have been available throughout program updates. Bottom line: Ease of learning and use. Cons My use is relatively unsophisticated. Only noticeable fault at this time is occasion slight "migration" of dimension lines.
