This can be done quickly and simply. Other software exists (i.e. Google SketchUp,) but they have a steep learning curve and require significant investment in time to become proficient. Pros Ease and intuitiveness of use. Quick to pick up and produce drawings quickly without being buried in overly complex software Cons Incompatibility with older OS releases. Photographer Photography Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Still the Best Drawing app for a Mac" July 9, 2019 5.0 In conclusion it is still the best drawing app out there for a Mac. Pros I have been using MacDraft for wood working plans and floor plans for many years. The interface has a nice facelift. The addition of keyboard shortcuts is something I have been waiting for. So far I have used it on a few floor plans. It took some getting used to but in time I think will be fine. No issues with it being stable. Cons I do not like that MacDraft saves your changes without asking. If a drawing is opened to check something and a change is made inadvertently and the drawing is then closed the unwanted change is saved. I feel it is necessary to have that option. I am not a fan of auto save. I use a second monitor and I don't see a way to have the tool panels on the second monitor to free up working space. I also have a large library, the Library panel is too small. It takes more time to scroll to find what you are looking for. The text curser is very light and is hard to see where you have placed it. I hope some of these issues can be worked out over time. Review Source Response from Microspot July 10, 2019 Hi John, Thank you for the review. Let me address a couple of your issues. Autosave is a system feature and is built into the app, we are discussing in house if there is a way we can have an on/off setting in the preferences for people who would want it. As MacDraft is now a single screen app you would need to position the screen so that the left panel is on the 1st monitor and the drawing space on the right. The Library palette can be expanded by dragging it up the right panel, you can then zoom in or out so you can see more items :) Microspot Team BV Beny V. Pros Very longtime we did use a drawing table ( can some one use it free of charge ) Longtime ago we used Claris Cad. It disappeared . So we need looking for another CAD. Or they were very expensive or they were very difficult to use. Whit Macdraft Pro the learning time was very low and it is more than powerful enough to make our drawings: Mechanical and electrical draws. Since the update from 6 to 7 it is now super easy to use. Great to hear from such a long time user :) All of our library items are drawn to scale so they with come in scaled. If you hold the shift key as you bring them in they will come in UNscaled. Also being able to create our own items to store in that library that are specific to our company. Cons When you insert too many items from the library, the speed gets very slow. December 17, 2020 5.0 I don't need an expensive CAD solution to run a non-profit youth camp; what I do need is an ability to quickly sketch out an idea of new cabin designs and projects. MacDraft allows me that ability and a fair price. Pros MacDraft is an intuitive easy to use product that produced results without a serious learning curve. You can almost "use it out of the box" without any serious hunting around for features or taking the time to watch boring slow videos. It does a basic job of capturing your ideas and presenting them in an easy to use and modify manner. Cons I would really like it if screen management (zoom in and out and translate) could be done with finger movements on my trackpad. Reason for choosing MacDraft Professional Cost and easy of use. MacDraft 7 does have 'save as' however it is called duplicate, this changed along with many of Mac softwares on the later operating systems. You can create your own custom scale so you could indeed create a 1:250 scale :) Unfortunately we dont have a French version you're right, but perhaps we will in the future! Pros It is easy to use. I liked it when it was Claris Cad. Mac Draft has more features, but not all the function are as intuitive. Cons The connection points don't always connect at the end of the hexagonal tool. Review Source WP William P. Used the software for: ### "Easier than Autocad" March 24, 2017 5.0 I purchased MacDraft when it first came out and have upgraded ever since. I have created dozens of drawings and continue to use it regularly. Most recent was a kitchen layout and sidewalk heating system. It may not be as robust as AutoCad, but it is easy to use and much less expensive. When I haven't opened it for a few months it is easy to recall the program's functions. If you want an intuitive drawing program that costs relatively little I can heartily recommend MacDraft Professional. I use the program on a MBP with a 50 inch monitor and with that, I can easily work with detail on a large area. In 2000, I did all the drawings for an office warehouse we purchased. I was told I would need a $25,000 architect to provide suitable plans for the county permitting process. I did all the plumbing, electric, lighting...every drawing the county needed in MacDraft and saved myself the cost of an architect. If you're working in an environment where you have to deal with AutoCad people, this may not work for you, but it's worth taking a look at if you're needing drawings and layouts on your own. June 26, 2019 5.0 Pros If you are a Visio or Cad user you'll feel right at home with MacDraft Pro7. The new look is very open and easy to use. The included template library is great. Cons The screen may be too reactive to the scroll feature, but this might just be a learning thing on my part. Beyond that, I have found no issues. Cons The need to specify the scale of the drawing first instead of like Autocad the scaling can be done after the drawing. I have used it successfully for many very large commercial projects, as well some smaller residential projects. It's easy to use and is very efficient from a time standpoint. It works extremely well on my Mac. The fact that it writes and reads to .dwg format is also very helpful when sharing files with users of other platforms. Updates from my original version are always progressive and very economical. The few times I have required customer support were enjoyable, with a quick and definitive response in all cases. The software is very well laid out and a stable working platform. The video tutorials are excellent as a starting point. We particularly like the range of graphic capabilities and the supporting library for trees, people, entourage..... This makes it possible to give life to a drawing quickly. The support via email from the Microspot team is excellent and they are very responsive. Personally, my only real criticism is understanding the drawing size, scale relationship when setting up drawings. Perhaps this could be a little clearer. We also use Autocad and Sketch Up. Macdraft proves us with a 2D drawing environment that is much better graphically than Autocad. The overall price of the Pro package is very competitive. Pros Already written... I may go weeks, or even months without using the software, but often when I do, I will work with it for several hours over perhaps several days. Pros It's capabilities. I think the software is pretty powerful. Cons Inability for me to find how to solve questions with the software. For example, yesterday I tried to create a floor layout for a fraternal organization. When I had to have something on top of something, the bottom thing went "away", to another level. I finally figured out how to work with opacity, but it wasn't intuitive, and the question was complex enough that I didn't have any idea what keywords might take me to a help screen. I find it very difficult to figure out how to do something I've not done before, or it's been a long time since I've worked with it. June 18, 2019 5.0 I'm used to Vector works and have used Archicad/Autocad - great programmes but Mac Draft has it all too just I feel it is simpler to use. Pros Easy to use, it has most of the functions that a designer needs to create a detailed drawing. Printing is easy. Having drawing examples on file are a great idea too. Cons The library resources are very spase. A basic floorplan still needs doors and windows - I couldn't find these tools so I assume I'd need to upgrade but I don't use it enough to warrant the extra expense. In terms of libraries, the sample libraries dont have alot of items in there, they are simply a taster of what is in the add on libraries. The MacDraft 7 Complete Pack for example contains +7,500 items (inc windows and doors). You can also create your own libraries. There is a new learning curve and I have not yet had the opportunity to work enough with the software to make a very clear opinion. Pros It is more comprehensive and more compatible with other drafting programs than before. Cons The formal takes a bit time to get used to and to find all the menus that I was used to.
