Plastics Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Thoughts on MacDraft" June 17, 2019 4.0 I would love to give it higher ratings, but the application seems to have gotten harder to use with each increasing version. Pros This is an application that has a solid design. Cons The way of aligning objects is not intuitive. I gave up trying to use it and there seems to be no manual. Giving us freedom to update and revert as needed. Cons The zoom feature is the only issue. I wish it would allow the user to flow in and out with ease using the Magic Mouse or trackpad options. Used the software for: ### "Suggestions" March 27, 2017 4.0 Need better input for object parameters- like exact location for center of a circle, rectangle, etc Need to be able to center objects on an axis better not reference to a corner- please make entry for centerline data point - (minus) for upwards direction is difficult to understand. Most use - for downward direction Please make option for entering one object then back to pointer. Very annoying that it keeps making squares, dimensions etc after one has been entered. Double click doesn't always seem to work either please make option that default fill is clear not white. Very annoying to keep having to change from white to clear for every object Review Source Response from Microspot March 30, 2017 Thanks for the review Tim, let me address a few of your points to help you in the future. If you draw one object and no longer want to use the tool you can press esc or the V key to go back to the cursor. You can change what you want to appear as the default color, even make it clear by default by making sure nothing is selected and changing the color (fill) to clear, then go MacDraft > Preferences > Document Defaults > Save Fill Patterns & Colors. Select that and hit OK. Now any document you start will open with a clear fill by default. I hope this helps! Microspot Team RN Richard N. Just don’t expect full autocad. It’s also not the price of autocad. My drawing needs are simple as I don’t require 3d renderings. It is priced right for my needs. Pros Ease of use and easy learning curve. My needs are geared to simple line drawings so this product fulfills my needs without the autocad pricing. Cons I was used to the older versions. This latest version is one of the best upgrades that have been made. I especially like the fact that objects size is automatically displayed when you are drawing. Pros The ease of using the program and the preciseness that it allows. Cons The one thing that it is missing is the ability to have text follow an arc or curved line. This is good for experience but bad for learning new ways. I am now starting anew and reading the manual from the beginning. Especially the use of shortcut keys, library inserts and datum point alignments. Great program ~ as always. Pros It will grow with me as I learn more and more how to use it efficiently. August 23, 2017 4.0 It makes my job easier because of my ability to complete basic CAD drawings quickly and easily. Pros The ease of use. There's a small learning curve but it's very intuitive. Serves my purposes very well and is much less expensive than most 2D CAD apps. Cons Sometimes I find when objects are aligned on the screen, they are not aligned when printed. Pros Love the fact that I can no know the distances just by moving the mouse and the drawings seem so much clearer and you can add more detail. Cons Nothing really. At the time it was the best option for a Mac user. Since then, I have used it for 2 more homes. I also use MacDraft for every project I build in my wood shop. It's great. Cons The snap to grid feature drives me crazy. When you paste something, it does not snap to the grid, so I am constantly entering the x and y positions. Review Source JB James B. We really appreciate it. There are a 2 main ways to align objects in MacDraft 7. 1) Use 'Smart Snap'. As you move an object around, alignment lines will appear allowing you to snap the object in line with another. 2) Use the 'alignment' tools in the right panel so align to a specific object or to the document itself. The object libraries were a great help and from no knowledge of MacDraft, I had the first cut done in a few hours. Just a few more and I had the final version completed including a bezier curve element representing an unusually shaped tabletop. Very pleased with the result. Pros Layers are fabulous. Bezier curves solved an interesting custom tabletop issue. Cons Sometimes I'll forget to detach from a tool and move my mouse to make a different selection and the drawing shoots offscreen. But we anticipate that the auto save feature will be a great improvement over previous versions. Pros \- Easy to use - Auto save - Reasonable price There will probably be many other things we like about it once we can get our regular users upgraded to it. Currently being held back by other legacy software. Cons We haven't had time to find any cons. I am anticipating a certain amount of crashing, but the auto save feature should ameliorate that. One thing that is missing from our capabilities is the ability to draw in 3D and walk through the model. Reason for choosing MacDraft Professional Price, familiarity, and ease of use. I go to do another dimension and I can’t get the correct numbers.
