Pros: Many reports are available depending on what you want to keep track. It covers everything from your daily needs to monthly to yearly.

Cons: When updates are done some of the items we have used disappear or are not available with update. Have found some reports aren't accurate.

Overall: Sales reports and so on give a great view on how your business is growing

The benefits more than outway the problems that occur

Pros: Inventory control and details that can be entered into each item is awesome. Customer sales tracking is great. Can be adapted to many types of businesses.

Cons: Reports side is not the best. Cannot get an accurate back dated inventory and designing reports is sometimes hard. Need bigger field for invoice numbers when adding bills to workorders.

Overall: All in one program for inventory to A/R and A/P etc.

Pros: Windward System 5 is well organized and intuitive for knowledgeable users. It is an extensive system doing just about anything you could want in a business management/accounting system. Reports are extensive and well laid out, and allow you to drill through to the details in most cases.

Cons: It seems plagued with system errors. Not sure if this is just our platform, or if this happens to most users, but we get system errors on a very frequent basis (more than daily). Most are nothing and the system corrects them on its own, but some require more effort, and frequent assistance from Windward Support. Most of the support personnel are very helpful and knowledgeable, so your problems get fixed fairly quickly but they are still a nuisance.

Not the right system for our type of business. Probably better for a small retail company.

Pros: I really don't know what we like most about the software. We have had the system for almost 10 years and it has never worked well for us, even after investing tens of thousands of dollars...

Cons: Not user friendly. Expensive. Support doesn't know how to fix the problem most of the time. System not capable of performing functions that are necessary for our business. Confusing. Have spent hours and hours trying to get the system to work correctly without success. Hired someone to come help us learn the system better that cost us almost so much money and we weren't any further ahead than before they came.

Pros: I like being able to customize buttons at the cash registers and change them seasonally as we are a garden center and our products do change drastically with the seasons.
Customer support is always very helpful and has fixed most issues that I have had in the past.
We make our nursery signs, labels, and a variety of different types of price tags within System Five. No need for another program as we did need one in the past.
I have not used them yet but having webinars and a learning area available to us is an excellent way to get more out of our software.

Cons: Customer tech support is very good, however I think that it is a bit expensive annually.
The label and form designers work but do not seem to be what you see is what you get. It takes a little finessing to create a label that fits your media properly.

Overall: One software that we can use for the front end of the business and the back.

Pros: the software is easy to use and customizable. we have found a it works well and have not had too many problems. there are a lot of options in the setup and we are able to change if it does not work. the implementation staff was great and the support is great. when ever I have contacted support they responded very quickly and the webinars have helped make the software better

Cons: it takes a long time to get a feature added and a lot of pestering, there are a few things in the software that does not make sense with the labels

Overall: more up to date information and tracking of items with serial numbers, it was easy to set in place policies and see where we lacked and brought in a lot of controls in the company

Pros: The software will provide just about any report needed and in about any arrangement for our company. I love the feature of being able to export reports to Excel to customize them even further, if necessary.

Cons: Because I can do some programming, there are a few tweaks here and there that I would like to be able to do myself. Some minor issues cannot be changed, according to technical support.

Overall experience has been very good. A very reliable system with little to no freezing.

Pros: I like the speed of use and all the options for inventory. The point of sale side is pretty straight forward. The customer support is great, always helpful and very fast. It has features that could be great.

Cons: What I like least is the back side of it is not as user friendly. Feels like you need to have a degree in programming when trying to setup printing forms. Setup wizard could use simpler terms.

We've been with Windward since 1994, recent years Windward has really stepped up to the plate !!

Pros: Over the years there have been many areas of the program that we never took advantage of. One of the greatest things is with all the recent available training on and off line it has allowed us to find these nuggets that have helped us tremendously to make processes within our business so much easier. This had to be one of the best implementations that Windward has made, keep the training coming!!

Cons: The one thing we dislike about the program are updates. We get very nervous! A few years ago we did an update and it totally messed up the whole program. We had to work offline (paper work) for more than 3 weeks, which was a nightmare after the fact. Though Windward programmers worked for over 6 months to find a fix, they never ever did. So here 5 or 6 years later our Point of Sales Transaction Report figures are still unusable. We recently updated Pervasive and were told it should really speed up the program. Unfortunately it didn't, actually saw absolutely no difference even though it had been several years since we'd done an update, so are looking at other areas now.

Overall: One of the most recent benefits is the available training in many different areas of the Windward software program. This is an incredible asset to streamlining and improving day to day business practices for us. When we find out things the program can do for us that for years has just been sitting there not being used, we're like a kid in a candy shop....Excited...Wow!!

Pros: The integration, report flexibility, security settings and ability to handle multiple locations. Windward gave me the tools I needed to help me manage a growth period.

Cons: The report functions could be more user friendly. I would love to have more report templates included.

Overall: The biggest single benefit is the ability to help me manage several locations with a single piece of software

Pros: easy t o use with MANY features. some are bit tricky to use but support is very helpful. Had a system (Windows) crash and lost computers. Luckily had back up from previous day and Windward was able to get me up and running in about an hour on the new computers.

Cons: a little trick designing your own forms, cheques, tags etc..but able ti overcome with some support help.

Overall: daily reports, keeps inventory straight, up to the minute financials. great system!

Pros: This program has a lot of features, many of which speed up the tasks we perform daily. Tracking our customers is now fairly easy. Most of the system is Excel compatible which makes invoices and other documents easy to export. Windward's tech support is very friendly and accommodating.

Cons: As useful as this software is I still find simple tasks that it cannot perform. I have made at least four requests of tech support concerning software functionality that resulted in an answer of "the software can't do that" (and my requests were far from complicated). It's as if the software is so good at doing a million different tasks that it wasn't built to do the simplest ones.

Overall: We can now track customer purchases more easily. Inventory control is faster and easier than before.

Been using this system for 5 years now. Such potential, but a disappointment in customer service.

Pros: I like how it is inventory control and accounting integrated into one system. The system has great abilities.

Cons: My biggest complaint about the software is the lack of customer service. Prompt customer service is key. Prompt service seldom happens and at time I feel I know more about the system than the person I'm on the phone with.

Overall: It has worked out well for our business. It has been relatively user friendly, easy to learn and train others on, and it does everything we need it to.

Gets the job done. Do not do the updates.

Pros: Very thorough software with lots of room/areas to store Information and very easy to use. The point and click ability of the software makes it easier to train new staff. Can access the software from anywhere in the world using remote desktop connection.

Cons: The updates do not seem to go very smoothly. And update me fix one problem but two new problems arise that were not problems before. We have actually stopped getting updates and have continued to use our current version for years. We have developed our own internal ways to use the software to its fullest potential without getting updates. Software support is readily available however very expensive and a lot of the problems that we have encountered do not have the solution. In order to get the solution we have to pay for the entire resource development team and have to be very very patient to see results. The yearly license fee does not benefit our company as we do not complete the updates. So we paid the fee however are using an out of date software program Because we are afraid to update. Phoning for tech-support can be quite challenging when the bill is charged per minute and we are on hold for 80 percent of the call. We are usually on hold while the tech support discusses with superior or development team to solve our more complex problems. At the end of the day the software program helps us maintain our current business but is not helping us grow our business. We are not ready to commit thousands of dollars to the software program that still has many issues even if we were to update to most current version

Pros: The integration of the accounting and POS software. I like that you can link PO's to Bills and AR invoices, so you can double check what suppliers are charging you. The way you can customize all your forms is nice as well.

Cons: So far we have had some issues with the software, such as using the contractor tax and assessing PST properly. Also, there has been some glitches with payments being deleted.

I depend on Windward every day for my role in sales and marketing. I couldn't do my job without it!

Pros: I like the ability to generate custom sales reports so I can see who my top dealer accounts are, and which accounts I need to incentivize. I need to quickly check stock of products in all four of our warehouse locations, and when a product is out of stock, I need to be able to quickly see what's been ordered and when we are expecting it to arrive at our warehouses. In a "just in time delivery" business world like ours, giving customers an accurate ETA can mean the difference between closing the sale and not closing it.

As a sales manager, I like to look at what the top selling products are by customer and by regions. I like to review our sales trends month by month and year by year, and see where we need to improve. I also need to see the full financial picture of sales, cost of goods sold and company expenses, to make sure we continue to run a streamlined operation and remain competitive in a constantly changing marketplace. Windward's reporting features are excellent in this regard.

Windward is an extremely powerful and feature packed program. It does everything we need to run our business, from accounting to sales; order processing to invoicing; warranty claims and product returns; and generating reports that all levels of management can use to efficiently run their department, or the whole company. In summary, Windward is an extremely comprehensive program that is well suited to our product-based business.

Cons: Like any feature packed program, intuitive menus are critical to accessing all the nuances of the software. Most of power software programs leave something to be desired in the area of intuitive interfaces. Windward is no exception to this. Thus, task specific training modules and quick customer support is of utmost importance to users being able to shorten the learning curve when expanding their knowledge of Windward.

Overall: It's integral to my role in the company. In fact everyone in our company uses Windward on a daily basis. We use it in every aspect of our product based business from order processing, to sales, management, warranty, accounting and inventory management.

Pros: Windward System 5 has been a workhorse for our business for over 12 years! We can control our inventory, track special orders, email clients and much more with WWS5. We have been able to grow into this software. There are many features that we are still learning that are simplifying our workload! I highly recommend System 5 to anyone who manages inventory. BTW the reporting capabilities are almost endless.

Cons: It is a little quirky, but the benefits far outweigh the quirks. I wish that it had more web integration or that they would offer cloud based databases.

Pros: Access Control over different people with different jobs. Sales history. Adjustments to inventory. Back orders.

Cons: Payroll module is confusing you always have to adjust the dates at the time when making payroll at the end of the month.

Overall: Inventory control with accounts payable and RA with payroll now.

Have been using Winward for 5 years and it is very frustrating.

Pros: Journals are easy to do same with cheques and we have a lot of control in that area. The support people always try to help and are very pleasant, but very often even they can't figure out how to fix something.

Cons: Very hard to delete stock or move it around, certain GL accounts we can't access, puts in transactions in the back ground that we don't about and screws up the Balance Sheet and difficult to delete a PO. In general it's difficult to delete anything except for cheques and journals which should be a little more protected.

Runs my business for me.

Pros: Inventory capabilities, Daily reporting, Reorder process, all make my daily job much easier. Could not ask for more, and if I do Windward adds the function.

Cons: Overseas tech service, outside hardware integration (i.e. credit card readers), it works flawless until you try and make a big change like that, however lots of times its not windward's fault but that of the processor like Microsoft.

We have had Windward since 1998. Easy to use program.

Pros: Fairly easy to use. Most features are simple to use and once you know how to use it is fairly easy to correct mistakes made on invoices and inventory.

Cons: Did not have payroll part before. Confusing to change printing options when a new printer is installed and is hard to figure out how to add things on invoice set up .ie - We wanted to write "Estimates valid for 30 days on work orders but can't figure out how to do it.
Haven't yet discovered how to use the email option on invoices & statements.

Overall this software has a lot of capabilities that integrate easily into our company.

Pros: That it is easy to train our employees on. Great help videos! I really like their integrated ecommerce. It is nice to update one price in our system and to have that price automatically updated on our website.

Cons: Not so great for my outside sales staff. We run their WEAR program for our outside staff. It tends to have errors as it is similar to running just a backup version. I also wish that their ecommerce did not run in HTML only

Overall: It saves me time. We used to run and inventory program, a bookkeeping program and an ecommerce program. It combined these 3 programs into one.

Pros: The ability to expand on transactions no matter which module you are in is a nice feature. The GST function is also very good.

Cons: With every update, there is a new set of problems. In addition, you can not add additional data bases, terminals nor change your company information such as address, phone etc. Windward's main goal seems to be collecting licence renewal fees and support fees at higher than market rates. They control the number of users - unlike Simply Accounting who allows up to 10 users for a basic license. Windward also charges a licence fee PER DATA BASE. This is bogus! Overall, I am disenchanted with Windward and moving away from the product after over a decade of use.

Overall: The system has a good POS system. It is quite easy to use but does have serious flaws. You can integrate VISA processing with the system, however, this opens another set of problems.

Windward is a great POS system for any business.

Pros: Winward software is very well integrated. From accounting, point of sale transactions, payroll, stock transfers, et al., you will find it there. Reports is received with just at a click of the mouse. It helped me run my furniture retail store with ease.

Cons: 1. Sometimes, our retail needs need to be worked around because some programs have to be purchased as add on. This is a turn off sometimes.

2.While the support team is very supportive, sometimes the sales team doesn't understand the need of the customer and seem to be adding a price tag on every move.

Overall: Integrated software that helped me monitor and run my business efficiently.

Pros: Knowing that you can pretty much always get a hold of someone in support- My all time favorite support person really knows what she is doing and is a very pleasant wonderful personality! It is nice that there are a variety of reports for each department

Cons: The bookkeeping part of Windward - everything is journal entry based and not check book based - The payroll system is Canadian based and is not United States friendly on the forms that need to be done at year end for payroll and the government. Some of the reports don't print dates and other pertinent information on them and if they do you have to click on everthing to just read the notes. Also an awful lot of "errors" that occur and some that never get fixed- it tends to be frustrating! Also having to wait for someone to call you back when there is a urgent issue that needs addressing asap can get frustrating, although you do always get a call back

Pros: Customer service was excellent, the people at the help desk were patient, kind and skilled in training me on the system and in accounting. It is excellent for tracking inventory, clients and suppliers. The reports are helpful, too.

Cons: Creating forms is difficult as well as some of the terminology. I have difficulty using the help menu because what I look up what I think something is called.

Pros: Windward is easy to navigate and manipulate. Inventory items are easy to add and change. Like the way the payroll system integrates with Windward so no need to journal . Love the support I have received when requiring assistance from the team in the Philippines . They are prompt in getting back to you and try to assist at all times.

Cons: When trying to customise the system to suit our requirements alot of manual hours are required to change simple things like updating prices and modifications. When we needed to collect information from the system we required a special programme be written to fulfil government requirements. This additional reporting is cumbersome to produce.
There is also alot of double entry when making a payment and then having to do a journal entry to reflect the same. A journal entry should be automatic.
Would like the ability to make ledger numbers inactive
Although we have a very confusing payroll and tax system, we experienced many issues with setting up the payroll system with this year being the first year we have successfully produced a payroll summary. Even then it required alot of double/triple checking to ensure the information was correct. Adding a new employee is once again difficult and time consuming. It would be great to be able to copy an existing one.

Pros: I like the ability to special order a product on a work order and have it directly linked to the purchase order. Great for tracking an item through.

Cons: INVENTORY!!!! There is no direct link between the inventory sub-ledger and the ledger. There is no transaction list of what is recorded in the sub-ledger, so balancing inventory and determining where an outage may have occurred is a long, tedious process that involves tracking every purchase order received, bill, work order and invoice put into the system. Implementing the software is very time consuming and self-regulated. Enhancements to the software can be requested if your company agrees to pay for the programming time to develop it.

Pros: all encompassing full service software for the business starting from the POS, inventory tracking, customer history tracking, book keeping etc.

Cons: help guide sometimes makes it difficult to find what you need to do to get the info you want, getting the terminology or areas to look correct first.

Pros: I give this review after having tried many different software packages over the last 15 years. Some costing x10 the price of Windard, some costing x10 less.

What I'm left with over these years is perspective, and that perspective was hard earned.

You will not find a more complete point of sale, inventory control, accounting, crm, etc. for this price range.

With the ability to fine tune it to your exact business needs, it's easiest to configure, maintain and operate...especially compared to the "enterprise" software world where your eyes will water from pricing.

Its got lightning fastest Point of sale with the absolute best part find search tool I can recall using. The special order management is the best complete solution from any I've tried.

If your serious about your Business, you should consider Windard. I honestly think that in the long run it has improved our business, staff and bottom dollar.

Cons: There is no such thing as perfect software.

With that being said, there are issues...but then it's technology. You have to considering that it is a highly customizable product that able to serve an amazing range of business types with thousands of options.

What Windward has that sets it apart is a fantastic support team with Canadian staff and an out-of-country team that is admittingly fantastic...probably the best off-shore support that I have ever experienced in IT. Tech support is typically same day, commonly instant or within a few hours of placing a call. If you have an urgent problem, they will find someone for you RIGHT NOW.

If you have problems using Windward software...you will most probably have problems using another piece of software. The key with any software, especially if you are new to it, is to have patience and use every opportunity to learn.

Overall: Reduced IT costs, Improved staff experience and greater overall efficiency of our business practices.

Pros: Very versatile, learning new things all the time. Everything meshes together in one package. Like the way you can drill down to see what happens in the background. The accounting took a bit of getting used to but has proved itself .

Cons: The Terminology is different from most other programs and it is sometimes difficult to determine exactly what a certain term means

Overall: Much better control over our inventory and keeping track of all our product. The PO and receiving makes it easy to know when someones product comes in. We are tweaking the software constantly as we learn new things. The webinars and academy have been a big help.

Cons: for us a small retail shop, the maintenance & updating costs are quite high & out of our price range on a year to year basis.

Overall: the main function of our business, our retail set up revolves around the software making it easy to operate day to week, to month to yearly. it has been absolutely essential. recording & keeping track of everything form our substantial amount of inventory, along with accounting, reports, staff, ect. our main source of operations for sure. :)

Pros: Back office accounting is saving us money by tracking inventory vs sales, as well as less cost with accounting fees by running an all inclusive bookkeeping/accounting program.

Pros: It tracks model and serial numbers of appliances for customers and stores the details. Easy to use.

Cons: Set up was a little hard just because you had to create every outstanding work order you already had and every inventory item you have and when you are dealing with appliances, furniture, mattresses, and appliance parts it was a lot to do. The system upgrades and up front costs are somewhat pricey.

Overall: The best benefit is being able to control inventory.

Pros: It was easy to learn the basic accounting functions that I use daily. I also like the ability to use the online support.

Cons: Trying to fix errors that crop up. Very hard. Don't like voiding a check and the void goes back to the date of issue. This throws off the financial statements.
Can't run an inventory subledger with a cutoff date. Makes reconciling the subledger to the gl almost impossible.
Support is all over the place, you either get someone really good or someone that is absolutely horrible.

Pros: - Extremely customizable. Allows you to customize anything from report, to custom price-labels, to customized POS screen (even changing the size/color/look of virtually every button). If you are a little more adventurous, you can even write code that allows you make your own functions.

- Easy to learn. For as advanced as this is, most people can pick up on the majority what thy need in a day. For those who want to do more, their is a complete 'Windward Academy' that you can watch videos and read comprehensive guides.

- LOTS of support. If I ever have a question, there are about ten people I can call. Of-course, they have 24/7 technical support, but virtually anyone in the company is eager and willing to help. I can call my account manager, or any number of others I have talked to throughout the installation process. Even the lovely receptionist is awesome has walked me through issues on more than one occasion.

- Philippines support. You might think this would be under the "Cons" section; but it isn't. The Philippines support is not outsourced like other companies, but they are actual employees working in a Windward office in Cebu. They all speak great English, are EXTREMELY knowledgeable about the product, and aim to please. No matter how frantic I am when I call, they never get upset and are always positive. And they are not going to give up until it's fixed. - You typically don't find this level of customer service in Western support groups.

Cons: - Price tag will be your biggest hurdle. And some features will cost you extra. Having to pay extra to have the software integrate with our merchant account is probably the biggest complaint I have with the company. But even this is vastly outweighed by the Pros. If you want the best, it probably isn't going to be the cheapest.

- There are occasional errors that pop up and random issues. But 90% of these are self-resolving (very intuitive software). For the other 10%, support is right there to remote in and stay with you until it's resolve.

Overall: Saved our company time and money in the ling run. Being able to customize the look, feel, and functions of the application let us implement EXACTLY what our company needed. We evaluated MANY other products before choosing Windward, and nothing comes close. It was one of the better decisions made in our organization, and is a big personal red-feather in my hat.

Overall, 4 1/2 out of 5. Greg L's tutelage (from HO) has made the difference for us.

Pros: Inventory tracking and reporting, customer history tracking and reporting. Has way more tools than we can use. Team loves the history look-up. Invoice are easy to create and print. Works well for us.

Cons: Trying to connect the purchase order to a bill to a check. If one person does something out of step I find it to be a nightmare to try and fix. I understand why and I appreciate this, but there needs to be more scenario problem solving for me to go online and watch how to fix my issue.

Overall: Control, organization, customer history, financial tracking and evaluation though the reports.

Pros: Unlimited product amounts, other than that, nothing was good about it.

Cons: Even with my "full usage" set up, I still had to give myself permission to edit something such as a check. Too many steps to accomplish such a simple task. very time consuming. NONE of my staff, regardless of watching the videos and going through our training, were able to comprehend the usage of the system. Took a year to be able to pay for it, then went live, less than a month later, got a renewal bill for the next year! When I told them I wasn't happy, they told my trainer to have no contact with me, yet they "offered" additional training. This program and the company are a joke, and of course, no refund as I didn't use it 60 days. You don't need to use something for that long to know it's not for your company. My inventory was incorrect when I loaded it, even though THEY helped take it from my old system into the new. Pricing was off on 80% of the items and my scanner didn't work on their tags, even though I was told it would, they verified the make/model with me. My inventory tags were sporadic at best for printing correctly. they started out right, then went bad from there. was finally told it couldn't be fixed. Went back to QuickBooks, everything works normally. Except moving the inventory back over - of course the counts were off as they weren't right in Windward to begin with.

Overall: I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. Ever. In fact, I will do just the opposite.
Thankfully, it made my bank account smaller, I was really looking for some way to throw some money away! Thanks!

Pros: Have been a user/admin since 2009, and have been through many upgrades and improvements. It's easy to set up routines to track all incoming and outgoing merchandise and expenses. It seems to integrate well with accounting. You can extensively customize reports and you can easily export files from any report. Software is durable and forgiving; almost never freezes despite robust use from our end.

Cons: Emailing invoices has been problematical over the years. Windward hasn't integrated well with third-party email management software like Outlook and Thunderbird, although this situation may have improved since last I checked (this function is only sporadically my responsibility in the business). Pros: It fill all of our needs as a retail store as well as a webstore. It integrates both of those nicely. The accounting and the POS in one system is a great way to run a business.

Cons: In my business it would be useful to give employees access to a variety of information screens. Windward does allow this to some extent, but not to the extent that makes it practical in our situation. Which sometimes forces me to give people access to confidential information which they don't need in the coarse of their job.

Overall: I thoroughly reviewed 4 different POS software systems prior to making a purchase. It was important to choose the software that would grow as my business grew. Out of the POS systems available at that time (6 years ago) this was the best to fit the needs of my business then and into the future. Now, 6 years into it, this has proven to still be the best choice. It has allowed us to continue with the same software system as the business has grown and evolved.

Pros: We love the integration with our payment processing, easy cash balancing, multiple warehouses and the speed of reporting.

Cons: Not as strong on sales reporting as we would like...though I am told it is coming???? The lack of ability to compare year to year sales through vendors and drill down to the various products is a big one for us.

Overall: Far better inventory control, web integration in process and we must absolutely compliment the tech support team. Their response is generally very quick and knowledgable.

Windward has allowed me to get out of the office and out with my customers again!

Pros: I love that my staff can enter income as it comes in and they can not get into the heart of the program. This removes the need for my bookkeeper to enter income, because it is already done! The support people are very knowledgeable and thourough too.

Overall: Amazing inventory control and accounting is up to date without costing a fortune in labour or software.

This software is a good POS system for garden centers and an adequate accounting system.

Pros: Very fast at the registers - was also fast for cards until recent changes
Easy to drill down pretty well throughout the system
Good stock control system
Easy to export items to Excel

Cons: Often reports don't align ie it produces different numbers depending upon the report you make - it's all fairly mysterious but it's something to do with the integration of the accounting system.
Way too many available reports with confusing names, but obvious reports such as what our sales were today / yesterday / last week etc. are either hidden or need a workaround to access.
Accounting system seems adequate to me but is hated by my bookkeeper.
It was great 7 years ago when we installed it but it hasn't changed much since and I suspect that there are more intuitive systems out there today.

Overall: Inventory Control

They follow up any concerns promptly. Realistic software that works, does what it's claimed to do.

Pros: They've made reporting very simple to really dive into the numbers. The inventory side of things has made it a breeze to keep track of inventory as a great feature is costs vs landed costs.

POS is pretty flawless and easy to use.
You can report on just about anything.
Support staff are fantastic, and implementation was easy. Windward are with you the whole way making sure everything works.

Cons: To date have non, anything that I have ever had an issue with usually stems from user error.
There are some processes that I would like to have, and they can absolutely be custom programed, like seeing what items on the invoice are have customer contract pricing, but this does not affect most sales and can be checked other ways. So not really a con just something that my end would be great, more than likely there is a way to do this. I am always learning new things to stream line the process.

Overall: Best system I have ever used, to date have implemented this system in 2 businesses. This system has increased speed of transactions and lowered overheads. Best all round system.

Its a very powerful software and has huge potential.

Love the custom print outs
Barcodes take a bit to figure out but then the potential is huge.
Custom settings as simple as a specific printer for a specific printout.
Can limit employee access super specifically

Cons: Would be nice to be able to do price file updates during the day. You have to have everyone logged out to do it. This partially for data integrity.

The WEAR software still needs some work can't see the virtual warehouse and has some minor kinks that need to be worked out in the latest version.

Overall: It forced us to realize how many things we were doing wrong and we will be a much stronger company then our competition when we finally get it all setup. We are still learning everyday better techniques.

This is a smooth and feature rich software that transformed our business.

Pros: Our ability to drill into items where you should be able to. Having linked PO's direct in the inventory items is essential to tracking when an items was purchased and received. The full functioning GL of this software in nothing less than exceptional and really can give a business owner the feeling of control when operating their business

Cons: I think the most difficult thing with Windward is the learning curve. Reports are sometimes hard to understand at first until you understand them. the XML editor for invoice templates need work, this the most difficult part of the program to use if you are a novice or not tech savvy.

We've been using this software for 8 years and couldn't be happier with it. Support is incredible!

Pros: It's easy enough for my staff to run without a lot of training and I'm able to restrict their powers enough to prevent damage for the most part.

Cons: Too many work arounds required -- I know more than most of the front line support staff. Too many things happen that shouldn't be possible. It often works the opposite to what you expect or just doesn't work -- I find it's not intuitive on some major points -- never assume!

Overall: A platform to manage inventory and sales for 3 stores in different communities. We do not use it for more than that.

Pros: the flexibility thanks to various data load and import options, the ability to chain import/exports and call external scripts; detailed permission settings; the numerous features; lots of customisable reports easily ported to spreadsheet or similar.

Cons: - documentation is very fragmented, incomplete and sometimes just wrong.
- the user interface is not intuitive and a long way from modern apps. I couldnt convince our sales team to use the tasks/appointment/history-comments section as they found it too complex (but feature wise I think it's good).
- the one time we needed support, we received bad advise which would have crippled this company if it had been followed.
- a selection of sample scripts would really help with implementation of more complex customisations.
- the unique email feature is applied across both suppliers and customers. this is problematic where a customer is also a supplier.
- no support for linux pervasive engines any more.
- no support for Sys5Script.exe any more.
- the template editor is very unpleasant to use. Very tricky to create a visually pleasing document.

Very poor customer service, call for help they want to schedule a call back within a week

Pros: It has keep me on top of my bookkeeping, so I am more organized. although it is a 2 entry system, once you get used to it, it does the job. Pros: Many features - most of them even work.
Price is pretty good compared to most solutions.
It generally works and if you don't do any updates you get used to the bugs and how to work around them.

Cons: Bugs. Every update fixes some bugs and introduces some new ones. I don't bother with updates anymore, just too many headaches.
Slightly archaic - you can feel that it is not a fully modern product. Years (decades) of upgrades and patches have made it feel like no one person can manage the whole project anymore. Fixes in one area screws things up in another.
Service is spotty.
Pervasive SQL is utter garbage and you don't have a choice to run another SQL server. Pervasive is easily the worst part of this whole system.
We've added ecommerce to our business but haven't integrated System 5 - the cost is eye-watering. Maybe if the cost comes down at some point.

Overall: Far cheaper than our old system. Also much better feature set.

Comments: Read all the reviews. This software could really be good if it was finished strong and some further thought was applied to the processes. It seems 80% complete with shortfalls in many areas. Financials are just not suitable for our size of business. It takes 4x the amount of time to complete a task compared to QB. My accountants find this aspect frustrating. They really should offer an integration with QB for those who want it. It feels like they are trying to cover too much in this software. I have some tickets on issues and bugs for over 3 months now and they still have not been completed. Of what I know now, I would not have purchased this software. I am looking for alternate software.

Pros: The sales aspect is good. POS is acceptable. Easy to find a product and sell it. Kits work well. Reporting is somewhat good. Support tries to resolve issues.

Cons: Financials - If you are serious about your business, this is not for you. It is not comparable to Quick books. They have flatly refused to integrate with QB. Their financial side scores a 1/10. The Multi currency module is full of promise but has many problems and bugs like display and operational issues. You have to be very careful when dealing with multi-currency. Procurement is quite basic and could have been thought through more. No real science or maths behind ordering so you better know your high, lows, trends etc. Some aspects are good but fall short in some areas. They state they are PCI compliant but fall short on monthly account payments. There is a work around but wastes time. If you do job cards or outwork, this is a challenge and you have to invent your own internal systems. Not sure on stock value integrity? Stock take process could have some enhancements to make it quicker for the user.

Comments: If you are considering this product, take the time to dig on the internet for reviews first. Trust me. I purchased this software, It does not fit our business needs. After many months and hours of trying to make it work, we decided we needed to give up and get a refund. we never actually "went live" with the software. The company refuses to give any form of a refund. We have talked to nearly everyone in the company and not a single sole cares. The worst business decision we have ever made. Pros: The ability to drill down for more information from wherever you are. For example, from an invoice, click on an inventory item to see a picture of the item, a list of everyone that has purchased this item, check out how many are on order, how many are in stock, etc without ever leaving the invoice. This software has enabled us to get the same work accomplished with fewer employees.

Overall: Efficiency is the most important benefit that we have received from this software.

Pros: Absolutely nothing. It's an antiquated, clunky piece of software. I have never had more stress than trying to work with these cheats.

Cons: Don't risk your hard earned money. They promise that it will do what you want and when it doesn't they just drop you like a stone.

Overall: I learned very quickly that this software is old and in need of re development at its core. They just keep adding to the old code rather than upgrading it. Sorry windward, but it's 2017 not 1984.

Overall: We were running a good rental software program when we were approached by a Windward Software salesman who convinced us that we should give Windward a try. The salesman made us all kinds of promises, which we found out later were not all true. For example: don¿t believe it if
they tell you that they migrate your data, we ended up doing this all ourselves. On the surface, the Windward Program seemed to be a good rental system. It had a good inventory based set-up, We ended up repeatedly having this incomplete transaction screen popup. When we called for tech support to fix this problem, they would tell us to fix it ourselves, either by editing a single transaction or by p.o.s. This proved to be very difficult, and very time consuming. A program should never do this every day, and if it does the company should take responsibility to fix it, not the customer. This was the most unstable program from any we have used. We spent many days without our program working, due to their unreliable techs. This program was a nightmare for our accounting department. The accounting department had their workload tripled, due to the fact that the daily closing reports were not correct. We ended up creating a worksheet of every transaction for the closing period and transferring the data to make our journal entries for the day. In most cases their accounting techs didn¿t know what they were talking about, they never really fixed our problems, but instead told us, just reverse the transaction and do it again, the paper work piled up so much that we had to give an employee some time off for stress leave. This software would be a good inventory or p.o.s system , but it¿s definitely not designed for a rental or accounting system. All they did is add a rental module to an existing point of sale system, if you rented only 1 or 2 machines a day it would probably work, but if your main business is rentals, you would not want this system

Comments: We have been using System 5 since 2003. The system has scaled to our operation as we grow. The accounting side is robust and handles all our AP- AR- and General Ledger needs. Purchasing is fully automated. Billing customers can be fully modified with "Types" and "subTypes" to keep the status of orders updated and classified. Our inventory and product locations have been controlled and managed with the Advanced Inventory Control. The system is constantly being improved with fixes and new features multiple times per month. The database is rock solid. After 14 years, we never have had data corruption requiring the loading of a backup. All our employees depend on the info from system 5 to make decisions and give customers information. The ability to customize and provide information to users is endless and grows each year. We have used the barcode function and have 40,000 SKUs barcoded and labeled. We have even barcoded our rental equipment. We rely on this system for everything and for 14 years it has been bulletproof. Because we sell, service and rent serialized equipment, the "UNIT" way of handling things is great. Provides cost, service and income information.

Pros: We could not run our business without the information and order that the system provides! 1. Ease of use- Everything is in one program 2. Total integration- We don't need to transfer data to another program like QuickBooks 3. Strong Accounting, Control, and reports- Ability to customize GL and P&L format and multiple years. 4. Hundreds of pre-built Reports- We rarely do custom 5. Ability to create custom reports 6. Barcoding and Barcode printing- Couldn't live without it 7. Integrated Credit card Processing-Vantiv- Saves errors and time 8. Moves easily from desktop to desktop - configures easily when replacing stations 9. Weekly online training to learn features. 10 Responsive support staff who find the answers to any questions. 11. Ability to attach pictures and documents. 12. Unit history on serialized items. 13. Cons: Probably not really a con But there are so many features available, it take some time to learn and put them into daily practice. The rest are just enhancements we'd like to see !! First, We would like to see the RMA system simplified. Second, we would like to see the E-commerce platform developed more. We are using it now for our website, but we would like to see more features and search options. Third, we would like to see the Timecard function developed and enhanced. Fourth, we would like to see the offering of more credit card processing options. Fifth, we would like the ability to attach PDF's to items, instead of JPG. But all in all, the system works really well!

Overall: This software will cook your dinner if you ask it to ... We have run it for 4 years now and gratefully have had very few problems. Every time I want add a feature I find it is already built in. Excellent product. Only downfall is the customer service is hard to manage. You will find the programmers are genius but have very little communication skills.

Recommendations to other buyers: Do not base your experience on implementation... As with all software there are growing pains with any big changes. Judge it a year after you have it... You will be pleasantly surprised.

Pros: Ability to design inventory reports that provide us detail on what has been sold in a date range and allows us to purchase wisely.

Cons: Only one thing I would like to see added: A report to show income and expense in a spreadsheet by month.

Overall: It took a little time to learn the features but we have been very pleased with how this software works for us in our retail Hobby Shop. We have a huge inventory which is constantly changing - no problem for Windward. Windward handles our point of sale including receivables. Tracks our purchases and payables and allows us to create reports and bar codes and so much more. I can't imagine a type of business that could not function with this very extensive software at a reasonable price. Lots of good updates and fast help available when you need it.

Recommendations to other buyers: Don't try and fix things without help until you are sure of what you are doing. Help is easily available and I have never yet gone over the hours allotted per year. I tried to be a little too independent at the beginning.

Pros: It encompasses all aspects of a sales & service business including back end accounting

Cons: Some features are too in depth to use for the front counter staff to use when retailing at a high volume and under pressure

Overall: We have had Windward in place for over 20 years and have always enjoyed exceptional service with a quality product. The program has been continually adaptable to our changing business systems and easily keeps up to date with payment processing regulations. The customer service and technical support are extremely prompt and never fail to provide us with a resolution to any problems we have had.

Recommendations to other buyers: In my experience this has been an excellent program, my advice to any new user is to be sure and take advantage of all training offered and utilize the training data base as much as possible.

Pros: Full integration

Cons: Scheduling doesn't match up as closely with the way we would like to use it as possible.

Overall: Windward has been a great company to work with. We had some trouble during the start up of the system, and because of that we are still working out some kinks but Windward's support team has been great to deal with and are always available. The sales team has been easy to work with. For us, the system was the one of the only ones out there which had the full integration of all the services that we needed or anticipated needing in the future, and at a relatively good price point.

Comments: bad company to deal with, we spent over $30,000 and after several months of trying to go live and we had to suddenly purchase more software from them and we decided to pull the plug..... we saw no future in dealing with this company buyers beware ...... i have this complet system i will give you for free..... if it works for you and you like it then pay us half !!

Recommendations to other buyers: do not buy a complete system from them no matter what only buy 1 license and make sure implementation and everything goes well before do the whole thing

Comments: It a great product very well thought out and very thorough tracks all inventory while providing a POS anyone can use

Pros: This is a very detailed piece of software great POS and inventory tracking, Excellent piece especially for furniture of any kind

Cons: Its very in depth so be prepared to put some time in to fully utilize it, also its on the pricey side but if you have the money well worth the price

Cons: they stoll $30,000 from us

Overall: We have a large company and worked with the sales man to get a good point of sale ,everything was going fairly smooth until we paid them. After paying them $30,000 they started asking for more money to proceed and pulling things off our contract. We are now out $30,000 and no point of sale and they will not refund our money. Please Do not pay them ahead !!!

Comments: I installed System 5 for my "brick and mortar" business in 2003. This is one of the best investments I have made for my business.

I have thousands of parts & customers, and hundreds of suppliers. Most of my inventory is tracked by serial number. "Windward" is pretty quick in spite of my huge database, and the interface makes it very easy to look up info (such as customer past purchase history, showroom display serial numbers, etc).

I¿ve had great phone support when updating to newer releases, migrating the application from old servers to newer servers. Their support team has patiently even helped me through accounting questions. Once, my whole system was completely dead because my tech support guy did something on the server, and WW resolved it right away.

For me, a key capability is being able to import and export information easily into and out of Excel, so that I can maintain pricing for so many parts from many suppliers. I also use Excel for sales analysis and budget reports (outside of WW), so we can "slice and dice" the data (13 years worth) to analyze leading indicators of sales trends, for example. Since work orders can be populated from an external data file, I've created an external visual interface to create the work order line items for our more complex customer configurations, and have them load automatically into a work order.

After 13 years, I have a laundry list of things I would like to see added or changed in the system. However, reliability and dependability are my top priorities and on that front, WW has been excellent. Windward returns calls, answers questions, owns up if the issue is on their end, finds acceptable temporary workarounds, and makes me feel that my business success is important to them. They do NOT create barriers to communication, throw up brick walls ("that's just the way it is"), or tell me I'm running my business the wrong way ("most of our customers don't change their prices just because their costs change") - which I have actually experienced with other software vendors.

During implementation, I designed my categories to support the ways I wanted to be able to analyze the data in both WW and in Excel. If you don¿t have any software background, I would strongly recommend working with a reseller/design consultant for the initial layout and installation (which I think would be true for any accounting system), because that will set you up for success going forward.

Comments: Over the years we have had many different businesses both retail and wholesale and with all we have used windward software. Windward is easy to use, easy to train and well priced. Every few years we review the POS and accounting software to determine if we should be looking at new software and after a few trials with larger brand name software always come to the same conclusion windward works best for us. Easy to use, best customer service and a great value. I'm sure we will have the itch to review our software every so often, but suspect we will continue using Windward for another 20 years! Thanks to Steve and his team for the years of outstanding service.

Comments: We have run this software for a number of years and it has been nothing but a complete GONG show. From tech support that don't know what they are doing (until you get to the highest levels) to our account manager who is aggressive and threatening and definitely has a deficiency in listening to his customers...
This company does not care if you are an unhappy customer they just want your money!

Comments: Windward software was a complete disaster from original install by them on our server. Required a lot of time from our own staff and each work station to be down for multiple hours.

The blank slate install produced errors throughout the program.

DO NOT Purchase, period. REALLY do not purchase if you use roll-up accounting for your GL.

Our implementation was halted by Windward themselves due to their program producing errors and crashing.

We were never given true solutions, only band aids and work arounds. If your issues are not a priority, you will wait in the queue while others are dealt with.

Upon the demo and trial version, we asked what the refund policy was, we followed the protocol and asked for a refund being that even a clean slate install was producing errors. The long ledger function we required was never working and we were told by our implementation "expert" that we were on our own using long ledger.

They have refused refund, despite us having emails from the sales person before completing the transaction stating we would be entitled. We have tried to pursue legal action.

Again, stay away from Windward Software.

Pros: It's a fully integrated software, from inventory control,point of sale to accounting. This is the only software, and it makes things easier for us. It is easy to use for basic POS.

Cons: Reports area is pretty basic. There is no "smart search" for inventory.

Pros: I like the auto data up loads for inventory. I like the adjustability of all the categories of forms and labels, such as invoices, purchase orders, packing slips, inventory tags, delivery tickets, etc. we can utilize and customize to suite all kinds needs for many different aspects, and situations. Being able to use the tag-a-long kits for suggestive selling, helps out the sales staff considerably, gives them that extra help in making their quotas and the don't have to remember to ask each customer, the suggested add-on items pops up on the invoice and forces them to ask. The sales staff loves the ability to bring up all their open invoices at one click. They love the ability to prioritize estimates for their follow ups. I love the pop up tasks, I can assign tasks to specific employees for a specific day and time to pop up, to remind them to get it done. Using system batch purchasing really saves a lot of time. Using alternative vendors for the same products helps with our inventory management. We have a repair department, sometimes the sales people will help out on the repair bench and the "technician's time clock" works well for them when they get call back to the sales floor in the middle of their repair and then come back later to finish, that may happen several times in the course of one repair depending if the time it takes for completion. Using this "technician's time clock" makes it easy to track their time for the repair fees. System 5 is such an integral part of our day to day functions, we take a lot of it's features for granted, it is hard to think of all the good things it does for us to make our lives easier.

Cons: I think the data up loads can function easier, be less complicated. We don't use the accounting part of the program. We use QB for our payroll and it will integrate with System 5 so that is good. There are more aspects of the program I like to be using and I wish the learn curves would be easier. We have an extra large amount of inventory and data stored in the system, since we have been using it since 2008. When generating reports or gathering information, the delays to the system or the machine's think processes, are way too long for me, before the abort button shows up, if it shows up at all or the option to quit the process and try another way. Again think of what I like least is difficult to do because we always find a work around to fulfill our needs.

Recommendations to other buyers: Shopping for point of sale/data entry soft ware is a daunting task, I don't wish it on anyone. To start I make a couple of lists. First, list of all the most import thing things you can't live without in your day to day business software. Next list all the thing that would be nice to have, you wish list. Then show your lists to Windward make them show you the complete workings of how each of your must haves can be accomplished with the system. Next make them show you the complete workings of how your wish list can be achieved. They will do all that for you. If you find that Windward fits your particular needs then go forward after you are up and working then you can learn all the rest of what it will do. Don't try to learn it all in the beginning you will make your self crazy, I'd just focus on your current needs and after you are up and going than you can adapt to utilize all the rest of their functions. Their 24hr help technicians are very good to work with, I've found that if I give a detailed description of what problem I'm having to the tech desk, 90% of the time, they will steer the technician that best know that issue and will call back and give complete dial-in connected help, along with training, so I'll be smarter next time, and can fix the problem myself. If I have any other issues that the tech can't deal with, my account manager, always gets me the best solutions. I love the ability to using the training along side the real program. It is great for new employees as well for us old timers who are doing a new steps or steps that we may not have used in a while and we are unsure if we will be doing it correctly. So with the training we can play all we want with out messing up any of the real live data. Depending on how many newbies we have I'll copy over the live data to training once week or each evening when we go home and it is ready for them to play with in the morning.
