Pros

The main reasons we choose to run OnApp is that beyond the initial installation, it's a robust, flexible and feature-rich virtualization platform. It costs far less to run than VMware, and Hyper-V, avoiding the dreaded VMware tax and SPLA licensing. Its license model means you can also pay as you grow, rather than a large, fixed, initial outlay just for the software. This means you can operate at a comfortable profit, whilst the market trends towards wafer-thin margins. In terms of ease of use, OnApp is head and shoulders above competition from the user-side. Its attractive and intuitive GUI offers even non-technical users a way to orchestrate tasks that would usually require forethought and a deeper technical understanding. Automatic backups for example, can be turned on with a single click. Even advanced features such as the failover of virtual machines between active hosts can be accomplished with a few clicks. Alongside this, OnApp comes with full API access, meaning it's simple to integrate with billing systems, reporting tools etc.

Cons

The downsides to the platform are pretty minimal, these are my personal gripes and many aren't valid to most users. Bugs - Being a pretty intensive user, we unearth a lot of bugs, typically minimal and only applicable to the GUI, an example would be something like - In OnApp 5.5 the IP list drop-down when assigning an IP to a VM is only 64 entries long, meaning 75% of a /24 range is not selectable. But this isn't the end of the world, we assigned it manually via API, and if these issues aren't service impacting - just a bug bear. I have never seen an example of an update that affected live-services negatively. You can install it on anything - Which means people install it on ANYTHING. Many of the examples that I have seen of "OnApp failing" are down to the user installing it onto sub-par hardware, or not following best practices. If you install OnApp onto hosts running consumer-grade SSDs, do not be surprised when they fail and storage crashes, equally if you don't follow best practices on important features like the storage switches (which should be enterprise-quality and stacked/HA) then you can't hold OnApp accountable when the single switch pops and your storage goes offline. It's like anything else, use it properly and as advised and it just works!

We’re very happy with OnApp. Been with them for years, since we started our business in 2013. Definitely recommended.

Pros

Easy to use. Works out of the box. Integrated with the billing systems without much headache. OnApp store storage platform included in the system allows an array to span on multiple physical servers.

Cons

Support sometimes needs a little nudge in the right direction (escalation) to fix complex issues.

It is been very good, we started using it when it was in its infancy and it has come a long way. The support was the main reason for the switch from Xen. We are only a small company and to know we have the backing of a large support team without having to worry about per ticket costs was a major selling point for us.

Pros

1.) Simple to use GUI 2.) Integrated with our 2 billing systems (hostbill and WHMCS) 3.) It is constantly being developed. 4.) Its a complete solution there are no other addons to buy 5.) The support has been outstanding. 6.) Clear per CPU pricing

Cons

There is only one thing that sometimes annoys me, when you have a support ticket they fix an issue and do not tell you how they did it... so you have to ask :)

Pros

There isn't anything that we like. Their customer service and support was unfriendly and the quality of the software is bad too.

Cons

in 4 years we had to open more than 240 technical support tickets due to problems with their software which makes it 5 tickets per month and 1.25 tickets per week. In many of the cases their support staff didn't know what they were doing and they even caused full data loss for 2 servers. Good that we had backups to restore them.
