Pros: Meltwater hosts a number of informative sessions around their software and trends in the industry, which is a great added value.

Cons: The features of the software and be average, good for basic monitoring and tracking but nothing that blows your mind.

Just started with this software so I'm still trying to get the hang of it.

Pros: Probably the most comprehensive search engine out there. Has lots of features - including a media contact list that you can build for each type of press release you are doing.

Cons: It's not always intuitive. Also, I have to search for things (and sometimes they just aren't listed in the help section). Also, the help box should be movable (grab the top and move) so that I can see the page behind it - I have to close the help box to do something and then I lose what I was looking at and have to retype and start over. Kind of annoying.

Overall: Easier to search out articles for my newsletter

Pros: It is an easy tool to use. It can be used in multiple ways: on the web, via the app, and via daily emails. The interface is fairly intuitive.

Cons: Not much of the data is exportable - only the "Executive Summary".
It is algorithmic based, so it can miss some important engagements if there are a lot of engagements in a certain day.

Overall: Through Meltwater Executive Alerts we notified of influencer interaction with our brand in real time and are able to respond much quicker and capitalize on each opportunity as a result.

Stay far away if you're looking for reliable broadcast monitoring

Pros: Social media monitoring and online news monitoring is somewhat useful if these are the only monitoring tools you are looking for.

Cons: The broadcast monitoring does not pick up the majority of alerts even when they include the keywords. In addition, when alerts are picked up, the interviews are 99% of the time incomplete and it could take days for the account rep to find the rest of the clip, which when working in a time sensitive industry is completely unacceptable. I require timely transcripts and clips, and I do not receive that from Meltwater.

I was advertised a product that could replace my current media monitoring, yet Meltwater is so incredibly unreliable that I have not been able to cancel my other service. I am therefore paying for two services due to false advertising from Meltwater. Once they have your money, they do not care about providing good customer service. I have been trying to find a solution with the company for over a month before writing this review.

Overall: Months of headaches and frustration.

We've just begun working with Meltwater and the experience has been top-notch.

Pros: Some pros include the following:

Cons: The only thing that I dislike so far is that there is not an available CRM integration. This would be a nice enhancement.

Pros: We primarily use the "Influencers" tool within Meltwater to distribute content, including blog posts and press releases, to relevant outlets. Meltwater definitely decreases time spent in researching publications and contacts, and it simplifies the outreach process. It also offers a simple way to monitor results, from email opens to publications.

Pros: Tracking mentions was by far the biggest pro for this and it caught everything people were saying
Being able to create media lists was super useful

Cons: The pricing tier was just a little out of control
Wish there was more customization available where you could pick and choose what you wanted

Overall: Easily monitor and report on media mentions.

Bad software, horrible business to work with

Pros: Adequate search results

Cons: Difficult interface, horrible business practices

Overall: I found the Meltwater software adequate at best and the results difficult to use. In early February, their sales person asked if we wanted to renew and said they would send over renewal paperwork if so. We were well in advance of the end of our contract so I didn't respond immediately. She asked again in March if we wanted to renew. A month before our contract ended I let her know that we didn't want to renew. Despite having asked if we wanted to renew She responded that we had an auto-renewal effective February 27 (before she had asked if we planned to renew) and were therefore now obligated to continue the contract for another year. There was nothing in the order confirmation/contract that you sign about an auto-renewal; they bury this deep in their terms of use which normally cover things like don't reverse engineer the software and generally have nothing to do with financial terms or contracts. They never tell you there's an auto renewal, they lead you to believe otherwise until you're past their ridiculously early deadline, then they hold on like grim death to try and force you to pay for a product you don't want. I would never do business with this company given that there are now significantly better products available from Cision and others without the hassle. My guess is that these guys are losing business right and left and adopting these tactics to stem the flood of attrition.

Pros: Meltwater is a huge time saver for me. Rather than searching the Internet for hours, I can pull up exactly what or who I am looking for using the "influencer" tab or the search dashboards. I have been able to contact important writers and reporters quicker and more efficiently, and now have a database all my own for future reference.

Cons: There is nothing about Meltwater that I "dislike."

Overall: The data base of reporters and influential media contacts is invaluable. With the click of a button you can find the name, title, phone number and email address of hundreds of reporters from hundreds of publications and broadcast outlets.

Recommendations to other buyers: Must-Have this tool.
