Pros: Marketo is the best of the best. From prospects to customers, lead routing to triggered activities, Marketo helps get our leads to the right people in record time. It's not only helped track our leads more precisely, but allowed us to discover trends. Not only is Marketo itself wonderful, but its ability to integrate with Salesforce provides our team with the data they want and need to make decisions. My favorite feature, and will always be my favorite feature, is the Marketo smart list. Smart list are a godsend. They're perfect for slicing and dicing data exactly how you'd like.

Cons: The initial lift to get Marketo going makes it a large endeavor to take on and lack of ready-to-go pre-made templates. There are some limitations to the platform from an administration side that make it a bit burdensome, such as not being able to bulk delete programs, approval workflow, limitation in naming duplicates and being able to centralize and control how program and design templates are used.

Overall: At the foundation, Marketo allows us to manage leads through the sales cycle, track the success of our marketing initiatives and ultimately allows us to make better decisions on how to spend our marketing budget. We are tracking velocity of our leads through the sales funnel, percentage of opportunities and pipeline generated and influenced, and top performing channels and programs. Marketo is often thought of as an email service provider. I would argue that it just happens to send emails.

Pros: Marketo has a number of bells and whistles to it. It is a good way to get detailed analytics and send out emails. Tokens work well.

Cons: It has a steep difficulty curve to it. There is a lot to process with this particular tool, but it is worth it in the long run.

Comments: One thing that is appreciated is they are continuing to build the platform, especially working on integrations and new features. Seems to be a solid company, and I would have confidence recommending this product to anyone assuming they match functional needs accurately.

Pros: It can handle a good volume of data and multiple campaigns, and provides the functionality we needed. Specifically like the Salesforce integration, although I've heard it is slower integrating with other platforms..

Cons: A little lax on reporting and metrics, we had to purchase additional software for some analysis. It also "feels" a bit heavy from a price standpoint compared to some lesser known platforms, but I haven't done a true side-by-side comparison.

Pros: The overall setup and functionality of Marketo for bulk email marketing is at parity with its competition with similar offerings. Once you get through the initial setup and implementation, daily tasks are fairly straightforward with an easy to understand UI.

Cons: The data side of Marketo has caused us significant issues during our time using it. The API to Salesforce.com has caused huge issues with data writing and duplication issues that should be straightforward fixes based on data prioritization but it has required months of work to get things back on track.

This software has helped us identify our highest quality leads much more efficiently.

Pros: Marketo's scoring system has helped our sales team increase their close rate by 30% by helping them focus on top quality leads. Targeting our ideal leads used to be a headache, now it's fun and exciting. I really can't say enough about this technology.

Cons: You have to learn how to score your lead acquisition funnels and what actions are important, but you will learn as you go and they have great support to help you along the way.

Overall: Lead scoring is second to none. Helps us identify top quality leads based on actions, not assumptions.

Pros: Its integration with Salesforce and the power it has to run countless programs and nurture streams is great. Designing the emails in the interface and then setting the audience directly after is nice.

Cons: The loading time on it is sometimes pretty ridiculous, and there are a lot of areas that the design of the actual software could look much better and be more intuitive.

Pros: Great at email lead nurturing, lead scoring, and reporting. The Marketo community is great. Marketo Certification will go a long way.

Pros: You can throw a lot at Marketo and it is able to handle most marketing campaigns that you need it to do. It integrates well with Salesforce. Once you get the hand of it, it is easy to use for most campaigns. It also allows you to tokenize and script inside the tokens to add features that aren't built into the product. It's fairly easy to administer for things like custom fields, etc.

Cons: They have had stability issues over the past year, which have sometimes caused problems for time-sensitive campaigns. Also, the email and landing page builder is lacking and sometimes you spend more time than you need to get a template right.

Pros: Multiple channels for marketing available and directly integratabtle with down stream DSPs. Love this feature.

Bulk extract is very useful for us to run Power BI on the data and build analytical models.

Have also implemented Maroon-ai's predictive lead scoring algos on top of marketo instance for building a comprehensive scoring models for all inbound leads

Cons: Implementation time is very high and also a cost to consider.

Up skilling and training is required for effectively implementing. Workflows for campaigns are hard to make operational

Pros: It definitely brings more flexibility and functionality to slice and dice your email data into sophisticated campaigns¿¿more so than what cheaper solutions offer.

Cons: The UI is stuck in 2005, and there's nothing with conventional naming (i.e. if you want to duplicate something, you need to "clone" it). The learning curve is high; so high, it's recommended one person on your team be "Marketo Certified." Even the back-end integration is a pain; but it's all for the features to help provide a better marketing experience to your customers.

Overall: More marketing automation usability than with our original software.

Pros: The interface mimics other day-to-day programs such as emails or file folders. So that makes it relatively easy to organize your campaigns and find them again. And there is a lot of flexibility built in once you get started. You can move campaigns around, bring in other pieces, clone items, upload relatively easily, etc. I also really like the auto-save feature.

Cons: When a process flow is broken, there are no hints or indications as to why. On a few occasions the program has given me error messages (the good old band-aid on the screen) for reasons I'm not ever able to figure out. While they do offer some basic training for new users, anything beyond that is a charge. And my experience with the community responses hasn't been great. When you have a very specific and detailed program, it's tough for other people to be able to understand where you're stuck. So often times the answers people provide are not enough to help me get un-stuck.

Overall: The Marketo consultant we engaged with (paid) was great. They have very knowledgeable team members on the staff.

Pros: The easy of use. The platform is easy to navigate and you can send out beautiful emails whether you have no coding knowledge or you're a pro. With several templates to choose from there is certainly something for everyone. The community of users they have built is also quite impressive. Not only does customer support respond expectionally fast, but there is always someone in community to help with troubleshooting.

Cons: I wish it was easier to modify templates without the need to dive into the HTML. If there was a base of modules that you could select, drag and drop in, that would be truly amazing.

Overall: I got time back. This software made my job so much easier and I could spend more time focusing on other aspects of my role.

Pros: Marketo has helped our entire team to keep all our subscribers in one place and it's very easy to manage the customer's email preferences just with a click. Marketo is one of the easiest tools we've used to keep track of our distribution centers, and we definitely save a lot of time just by searching a customer's name or email address.

Cons: Marketo is sometimes too slow when downloading a list of subscribers. Since Marketo keeps around 10,000 of our user,s it's acceptable that sometimes it becomes kind of slow.

Overall: The most important benefit of using Marketo is that we keep all of our users in one place and that helps all of our teammates to work in an organized way and avoid wasting time.

Pros: Our company did not have a positive experience with Marketo. While it technically does everything an SMB needs from a marketing automation standpoint, I feel there are better options. It was quick to setup, but not easy to use.

Cons: Marketo has a clunky UI. Way too many clicks to get to the features and lists. Form and Landing Page Builder are bad. Their API is very weak and limited. Lack of integration options and lack of support.

Comments: Pretty decent CRM software with a few time wasting features. I'd like to see more product updates.

Pros: I've been using Marketo for 5+ years now. It's really easy to navigate, manage leads, create campaigns, and get basic reporting.

Cons: it can sometimes take upwards of an hour for the system to process leads and send an email to a larger sized list. Email reporting could be better. There have been several outages in the last year where everyone was unable to login to the system, all site forms were down, and anyone with emails scheduled to go out during the outage were pretty much helpless.

Pros: I love how powerful Marketo is! If you have the time and manpower to run creative, thoughtful campaigns and automation, you'll be a marketing rockstar and your sales team will be closing leads all day! The Salesforce sync is fantastic, as well as additional plugins and integrations that you couldn't even dream up yourself. Seems like they've thought of everything.

Cons: It requires quite a bit of manpower and effort to be able to use Marketo to its fullest potential. A small marketing team could struggle with new ideas, troubleshooting, and having the time to fully analyze the product's ROI.

Pros: Marketo has robust lead scoring and lifecycle management solutions. Lead scoring can be tokenized to create efficient and scalable.models. Cons: Some minor UX improvements: Be able to view a subject line without opening the email. Improve Text version editor - Even MailChimp's is superior. Create stronger de-duplication technology native to the platform.

Comments: I've used Pardot, Hubspot and Marketo - it's by far my top of the three.

Pros: Scalability, flexibility. Unlike many other platforms, Marketo truly can scale at a high pace when built out well. And if you're a confident user, it doesn't hide the complicated features behind a wall of impossible to breach "user friendly" interface - you can get into the weeds and play around and really customise things.

Cons: It's not the simplest, and can be quite tricky for newer/more novice users. But this can be overcome quickly with training.

Comments: Marketo gives me the opportunity to seamlessly deliver information to the sales users in my organization through the Marketo Sales Insights tool in Salesforce as well as triggered alerts/emails. I really enjoy the speed of the Salesforce sync as we are able to create/monitor campaigns and attribute revenue almost instantly.

Pros: Marketo is consistently ranked by analysts as a top automation solution, and I can finally see why! As a marketer, it¿s simple to use but also robust for program management from creation to reporting. On a day-to-day basis, I use Marketo within a B2B environment and we wouldn¿t be able to function without it. It¿s a key tool for my marketing strategy, one of our most used functionalities is cloning programs, tactics, and campaigns. This allows us to make fewer mistakes and maintain continuity from user-to-user, an efficiency for my nimble, growing team. What I¿d like to see is continued product improvement driven by customer voices. I¿m excited for the new Mercury UI to debut in 2018!

Cons: As an admin within a small team, the uptime to full functionality can be like climbing a steep hill on a cold day. Simply put, learning this tool can feel cumbersome if it¿s not your only responsibility. Luckily, the Marketing Nation Community combined with the product docs and Marketo University prove to be helpful resources for growing your knowledge. Within a year I was able to confidently learn the tool, contribute new ideas, and become a Marketo Certified Expert (MCE). Service/support - Compared to other automation platforms, there seems to be limited support and desire for accounts to have a 1:1 communication on a regular basis with an account rep. We¿ve recently been assigned a new rep and we're making progress.

Pros: You can do almost anything you want. You can easily do the basics or you can build very intricate fine-tuned campaigns to support all your needs. Other platforms may be easier to do smaller things, but can't scale the way Marketo can. Content recommendation per unique user is changing the game of integrating with websites.

Cons: Reporting and analytics can sometimes be a bear -- but they've made strides to improve this already, and more to come.

Comments: I have use Marketo for just about 4 years. I have found success in implementing new strategies through Marketo and increasing MQLs, SQLs, and customers because of it. Marketo will definitely be able to adapt to a dynamic company.

Pros: Marketo is easy to use and can be as custom and complicated as you need it to be. They have an extensive community that gives endless advice and will answer any questions you have. It is perfect for any sized company that is looking to grow and optimize their marketing operations.

Comments: The Marketo community is great and one of the highlights of working with this software. The support is robust and effective. While the aesthetic aspects of the forms, landing pages, and emails leaves something to be desired, it is more than made up for in overall functionality.

Pros: We have a really small marketing team, but we are able to create quality, complex nurture streams easily with Marketo. It also gives us valuable insight into who is engaging with our website and our emails. We couldn't imagine running our marketing with anything else.

Cons: While the functional aspects of Marketo are great, they are lacking in some areas like form design and ease of use for designing emails and landing pages. They have tried to improve all three but continue to fall short compared to other tools. You will have to have someone who knows how to do some basic coding if you want to go beyond their most basic templates.

Pros: From comparing to other MAPs, Marketo really nails the scalability aspect of marketing programs by collecting a group of assets (landing page, form, email, smart campaigns for triggers) and allowing users to clone these into entirely new programs which maintain the same process connections for quick rollout.

Cons: I would like to see the same modular aspect applied to Landing Page templates as with the newer modular email templates

Pros: Marketo makes it easy to track leads and accelerate leads to wins as a tool for content creation. In addition to keeping track of each prospect's place in the sales process, marketo is great for creating a database of all collateral for sales to access via marketo links and sending targeted emails to specific prospects across industry, size, location, etc.

Cons: The interface is difficult to use at first. The fact that it's so hard to understand limits users to using only the few features that they are aware of. You'll really need detailed tutorials to get your money's worth with this product.

Pros: Marketo is easy to use, quick to setup and an all around amazing tool. It does everything my company needs. The interface is very easy to use even when setting up complex programs. There is a logic to how you go about things that follow the flow of most campaign design processes while helping ensure that you are covering all aspects of the campaign needed.

Cons: There is a bit of a learning curve for users as well as administrators. There are plenty of resources online to help but one should not expect to load Marketo into your process and immediately log in and start building out complex programs.

Pros: This is a great tool to have to track the digital footprints of a prospect. When they go to your web site you see ever click and with analytics it gives you a great snap shot of perspective buyers and persona

Cons: I cant say I disliked anything. I wish the web and social came together in a one package maybe because the 2 tools together are powerful. The Marketo Social gives a snapshot of what perspective buyers are saying about you on social media and with advanced analytics its a powerful tool

Overall: This gives you insight into what prospects are interested in and gives your warm leads because when you contact the prospect you already know what is important to them based on the digital foot print they left

Comments: I am in the non-profit space, which generally has too few staff trying to do too many things. When used properly, Marketo increases our capabilities beyond what any of us alone could accomplish through a typical email-blast service. That being said, it takes discipline, time, and maybe even a dedicated personnel resource (internal or external) to get it up and running where it begin to really serve your organization's needs.

Pros: - Options for Customization of Automation Campaigns and Landing Pages - Extensive Analytical Tools - "The Sky's the Limit" on how much your marketing team can do with this tool

Cons: - The Email Editor is difficult to use, in my opinion. But if you are comfortable with writing HTML code, you can bypass the drag-and-drop editor. Also, it may not be any more difficult than any other option (I don't have a wide exposure to email builders). - The learning curve on the whole is steep. If you don't have a dedicated marketing staff person, you may be frustrated by how much time you need to set aside to learn how to use the various tools. But their documentation resources and training tools are very helpful. - You have to pay extra for full-service tech support.

Comments: We are using Marketo across the whole organization to improve and automate our marketing activities. We are using it at corporate level as well as in each operation (US, UK, DACH, France, Italy, APAC, etc). We improved ability to attract new leads and the engagement of visitors on our website.

Pros: - Workflow: the logic behind the workflows allows to automate manual activities - Lead gen: we improved the engagement of the visitors on our website and we manage the entire lead generation process on Marketo integrated with our CRM. - Programs: it is easy to create and manage emailing and nurture programs with the ability to set rules when the email should be sent. - Forms: we are using Marketo forms and we embedded them on our website.

Cons: - Integration with Dynamics: after 3 years we still have some issues on the integration with MS Dynamics... the 2 systems are not well integrated. - Support: sometimes we had some issues with getting quick replies from support. - Landing pages: it is missing a validation workflow on the thank you pages (to be sure that those who will access the thank you page have successfully filled-out the form included in the landing page).

Pros: There is almost always a way to get Marketo to do what you want it to do. If you don't know how, you might have to talk to support or even attend a training. But Marketo can probably do it.

Cons: It's so intricate, and everything is so interconnected, that there are a lot of gotchas. You better have time to double and triple check everything, because there's a good chance you'll forget something. But that's the price of highly customizable software. If it was just one big "go" button, you wouldn't be able to do all the things Marketo does.

Comments: It's as much a powerful resource for sales as it is for marketing in an integrative approach so I'd involve key stakeholders from sales in evaluating. The online demos are worth reviewing.

Pros: In today's fast paced, multi-channel environment where the abundance of information people receive in any given day exceeds the ability to process it all, I can't imagine running any kind of digital business without marketing automation. Marketo's offering is intuitive, integrates well with another cloud-based email, CRM, social, etc and has inherent capabilities to leverage best processes throughout an entire marketing/ sales lifecycle. I have only demo'd the product, used as a user, and been trained on, but have evaluated for a start-up where I would consider it essential for those embarking on digital campaigns to drive multi-channel sales.

Cons: I have not been involved in a full implementation, roll-out, and integration as a purchaser (only in business development), so I can't speak to that or any long term outcomes from initiatives, although the value is quite clear.

Comments: If you're a power email marketer, and use SFDC as your primary CRM, Marketo is not for you.

Pros: Feature rich, lots of functionality, decent reporting. You don't have to know HTML to have a decent email template,

Cons: While its feature rich, its very complicated to use. Not very intuitive when doing campaign creation, segmentation, reporting, tokens, forms - basically anything! The UI is slow and clunky and also not intuitive. Setting up multi tiered campaigns (especially webinars) and nurture streams (which is apparently a core strength) were extremely time consuming. Support is horrible. This system MAY be okay if you have a team of highly sophisticated Marketo ops people on staff to get through it, otherwise, consider other alternatives. i have ripped and replaced Marketo 2x with Pardot and couldn't be happier.

Pros: Marketo has a lot of companies that partner with them. They are a great company for Enterprise businesses.

Cons: All Marketing Automation tools are growing and have their own pros and cons. There are also some latency issues on the data processing side that gives us issues when we're bulk updating records or sending a large amount of emails.

Pros: Workflow adaptability that is unmatched by different stages. Building complex information administration, lead scoring, and authoritative procedures, (for example, lead directing) is exceptionally achievable in Marketo. They fundamentally give you each capacity they can code and let their clients sort them out as they prefer (more on this in #7). 2) The engagement programs, principally implied for lead supporting, are genuinely best-in-class. It's a tiny bit of a modification at in the first place, however it truly streamlines complex supporting tracks and spares advertisers from placing prospects into numerous tracks without a moment's delay (which happens more than most concede) 3) The vision is great. Marketo has a reasonable, long haul vision that they ceaselessly convey on. Cases being advances in personalization, ABM, ect. I'd wagered on them to lead the way (or purchase the way by means of Vista ) to whatever is next in showcasing robotization, for example, AI or machine learning.

Cons: I discovered Marketo somewhat hard to learn at to start with, despite the fact that my endeavors were well justified, despite all the trouble. I might want to see Marketo invest somewhat more energy making a stage for taking in the usefulness and UI.

Since using Marketo we experienced increase in sales revenues and 50% increase in lead conversion. Cons: There is a learning curve to it. Also getting certified in Marketo has more complex than before. Lead nurturing, streams, and center of excellence can be hard to set up.

Pros: Marketo is the "Porsche with a manual transmission" of marketing automation platforms. It's full of cool features and is incredibly powerful. The strengths: 1) Workflow flexibility that is unmatched by other platforms. Building complex data management, lead scoring, and organizational processes (such as lead routing) is very achievable in Marketo. They basically give you every function they can possibly code and let their customers piece them together as they like (more on this in #7). 2) The engagement programs, primarily meant for lead nurturing, are truly best-in-class. It's a little bit of an adjustment at first, but it really simplifies complex nurturing tracks and saves marketers from putting prospects into multiple tracks at once (which happens more than most admit) 3) The vision is impressive. Marketo has a clear, long-term vision that they continually deliver on. Examples being advances in personalization, ABM, ect. I'd bet on them to lead the way (or buy the way via Vista ) to whatever is next in marketing automation, such as AI or machine learning.

Cons: I love Marketo. But, there are some things I don't love. 1) The landing page builder has made improvements but still, leaves some to be desired. Unless a template available for import matches what you'd like to do, you pretty much have to hire a developer to build your templates. 2) The reporting is somewhat overhyped. They REALLY sell revenue cycle analytics, but in reality, it's tough to implement and even tougher to accurately maintain. Since data is essentially timestamped and not stored in an external record (i.e. like Salesforce has for a campaign member), if you mess it up, you're SOL. Marketo's advice to me was "don't mess up."

Not easy to use. Value is not great for small to mid size companies.

Overall: Helped the company to be more diligent about tracking and to start mapping the customer / user journey.

This is the V12 engine of MAS.

Pros: I greatly appreciate the features (analytical, operational, functional) of Marketo Marketing Automation Software. It is so helpful for streamlining our internal marketing/communications workflows at my non-profit organization for which I am the Director of Advancement/Admissions. I also love the Marketo Nation community forum and product documentation. Very good.

Cons: I'm not too fond of having to pay a lot extra for live support, considering how expensive the tool is to begin with.

I have used Marketo on behalf of two clients. Powerful, but hard to use.

Pros: Marketo is a very powerful platform with a lot of enterprise-level functionality. It's great for email marketing and offers all of the workflow tools one would expect from a modern email marketing platform.

Cons: The user interface is antiquated and it's difficult to use. Tech support is not very good and they are slow to respond. Marketo may be good for email marketing and workflows, but their other tools for SEO and lead generation leave much to be desired.

Pros: Marketo is one of the better marketing automation software titles I have used. It took me longer than it probably should have to get used to the user interface and processes, but once I was up to speed, I was glad I had spent the time. It made email marketing campaigns easy, and our campaigns got better results than from our previous use of other software.

Cons: I found Marketo a little difficult to learn at first, even though my efforts were well worth it. I would like to see Marketo spend a little more time creating a platform for learning the functionality and UI.

Comments: After a multi-month search for a new marketing automation solution, our team settled on three finalists: Marketo, IBM/SilverPop and Adobe Campaign. While all three platforms provided excellent high-end functionality, we ultimately went with Marketo due to the perceived ease of use and out-of-the-box functionality. We were not disappointed.

Pros: Our team was able to get Marketo up and running in 15 days to send emails. This is NOT a standard timeframe, and we have a dedicated and very motivated team. Service and training to date have been excellent.

Cons: If you have a many-many database, think carefully and have good internal conversations before selecting Marketo. We moved from ExactTarget to Marketo, and discovered multiple challenges with our data structure during and after implementation. Long-term, we expect this to be solved with the implementation of a new CRM solution, but it has caused some short-term growing pains.

Recommendations to other buyers: Definitely, go for the on-site training if you can afford it. Having someone available to physically walk your teams through the new processes allowed users to get up to speed much more quickly and have more confidence in a short span of time.

Comments: Marketo is a robust marketing automation platform. During the two years that I have been using Marketo, I have become a Marketo Certified Expert, a Marketo User Group Leader and a Marketo Champion. It's easy to use and adapt, even coming from another MA platform. The tech stack that you can intertwine with Marketo is just about anything you could want or need. Integration with other plug-ins is simple and easy to set up. One of the biggest advantages of Marketo is the Community (Marketing Nation!) of users that help each other out with best practices, problems, troubleshooting, etc. Marketo is a fantastic product out of the box and I'm quickly learning that there is always new tech to plug in and an unlimited potential to grow.

Pros: Easy to use Integration is simple Robust platform Community of users

Cons: Can be slow at times Support

Recommendations to other buyers: Overall Marketo is a fantastic marketing automation platform and I would recommend it to anyone in the market.

Comments: Marketo was the clear winner when first looking at marketing automation solutions. The robust software certainly met our needs at the time, but also offered features we were very new too. This allowed us to evolve our marketing processes and streamline certain aspects of it. Marketo will take a few months to learn the basics, and even then you will find yourself learning new things even years later. With the valuable resources Marketo offers, they set you up for success.

Pros: - Customize-able. You can certainly find a way to accomplish any marketing task. - The Community is a tremendous resource to learn and Certification is available to validate your proficiency.

Cons: - Support can take a few days to resolve issues. - Navigation and accessibility can be a bit earlier, (ex. cannot run ¿Lead Actions¿ from smart campaign¿s results tab, program¿s member's tab, or Lead Details page)

Recommendations to other buyers: - Get Sales involved in the lead scoring process so you can collaborate on what constitutes the warmest leads to send to them. - Set aside adequate time for the implementation. Be prepared to spend several hours a day learning the solution. There is a steep learning curve with Marketo, but that is because it is unlike other solutions.

Comments: I've had a good experience with Marketo over the past 5 years. They continue to improve and grow their product and it has been flexible enough as a platform for our organizational needs.

Pros: Very powerful platform that can be expanded with robust integrations

Cons: Some of the role out of the new functionality has been challenging for us in terms of what we expected and what was delivered.

Recommendations to other buyers: You need dedicated staff that truly understand the ins and outs of the platform to have the most success. It's easier to train a few people on how to use it than to try to roll it out to a full department.

Comments: Our team has been using Marketo, since before I stepped into my current role 3 years ago. While there was a steep learning curve at first, the capabilities are endless, the reporting seamless, and there is always a way to get answers whether through their great support team or the vast community of users they have built. The integrations with other MarTech vendors like Vidyard and PFL have allowed us to be creative with campaigns while tying all interactions together for a holistic view of each lead on their customer journey. Our marketing team seems to be getting leaner by the day, but Marketo has kept our agile and adaptable while keeping our work measurable and meaningful to our overall organization... and that has made all the difference.

Pros: Easy integrations with launch point. Helpful content-rich community structure.

Cons: Steep learning curve. RTP still seems very primitive in code capacity.

Recommendations to other buyers: Marketo is a significant investment. Get the most value from the tool by utilizing all they offer and integrating your martech stack throughout.

Comments: As someone who works in sales operations, I was always intrigued with what happens to a lead outside of the normal sales cycle. I was able to get approval for training for Marketo and with my knowledge in Salesforce (admin certified), bridging the gap between both systems have been a game changer for our organization. I have really been able to take advantage of how a lead is marketed and nurtured to, so that when the lead is ready to engage with sales, they are a bit more qualified, making sales conversations easier and faster. We've implemented lead scoring, different nurture programs, drip campaigns, automated lead routing based on assigned quota, properly tagged leads based on what channel they've come from...I could go on and on. I love Marketo and I love what it can do alongside Salesforce.

Pros: The Marketo widget in Salesforce is great. It lets a seller know exactly what pages they visited on your website, which emails they opened, what they've downloaded, including dates and timestamps. This REALLY helps a seller prepare for an initial call and sets them up for success. Marketo's integration with Salesforce is great and because I was already Salesforce certified, it was pretty easy for me to learn Marketo.

Cons: It can be a bit slow to do some stuff in Marketo, it's not as fast as Salesforce.

Comments: Marketo is a very powerful content marketing tool, and this can help publishers solve their content consumption question. If you need to know who in your subscription file is ready, engaging with what specific types of content, when, then Marketo can help you answer these questions. When moving to Marketo as a publisher, within the first year we were able to see our whitepaper, ebook, webcast, and site traffic increase significantly, and continue to grow into year two of the investment. It is a really powerful tool and connects to some amazing partnering technologies that can only improve your audience development and content amplification efforts.

Comments: Measuring movement and success through specific programs is very helpful. On a very basic level, looking at acquisition program and a lead source is very helpful. We have been able to develop much better reporting for our executives and show them ROI from the Marketing team. From an operational standpoint, the organization is so much better than it has been in the past. It's easy to know where to pull data from and things can get done much quicker with templates.

Pros: Everything can be organized the way that works for our team. There are very few limits to the way we can set up programs and we are able to customize fields, analytics, etc to tell us whatever it is we need to know. We've used other systems (like HubSpot) and they are not nearly as flexible. I also LOVE the Marketo Community. We've learned a lot from our peers in different discussions.

Cons: Sometimes there are too many options and not enough guidance on best practices. Marketo has documentation on different products, but they don't tell me WHY I might want to use a specific feature, just how I would go about doing so.

Recommendations to other buyers: Utilize Community and Marketo Product Docs. Don't stop asking questions as there are always other people who are either struggling with the same challenges or have a solution for your challenge. Also, take the time to mess around and learn the product. It does take time, but you will greatly benefit from playing around with the different program types, naming conventions, workflows, etc.

Comments: I've used it for about 4 years now and counting. I have tried several other automation platforms but nothing compares in terms of the functionality Marketo provides.

Pros: -Modular templates -Segmentation functionality -Using tokens to switch content out easily -Ease of use once you get the hang of it -History that allows you to feel 'safe' -Data is available and doesn't disappear

Cons: -Glitches -Bandaids -Bad support

Recommendations to other buyers: Get an implementation partner and consultant/vendor since Marketo support is pretty much useless for information that you cannot find on the web itself.

Comments: I've used Marketo both as a brand side manager and as a consultant on the agency side. It is incredibly powerful and can be used in almost any business environment. From traditional b2b to education to publishing. It can be the central part of any martech stack if leveraged appropriately with enough supporting knowledge. No other MA platform will match the SFDC integration (yes, including SFMC) which makes it a no-brainer for any SFDC customer truly investing in MA. The partner community is vast with integrations to do almost anything you need. And, of course, the marketing piece is insanely customizable to the customer journey.

Pros: - the flexibility - the powerful - integrations - reporting capabilities

Cons: - speed - complexity (also a major pro) - time to train

Recommendations to other buyers: Make sure you have a knowledgeable team led by an MCC (not MCE, and actual consultant) or hire an agency to do your implementation. Don't hire Marketo Professional Services, their approach is too cookie cutter. Get connected with one of their implementation partners (LeadMD, Fathom Marketing, or Elixiter).
