About DocThreads

DocThreads is a platform people use to communicate while creating or refining a document. Simply create a thread, invite people, and attach documents and comments to it. As documents are distributed between people, or across systems, or even to paper, you'll know if all of the copies match and if not, which are different and exactly what is different between them. As you communicate with people, DocThreads automatically takes care of versioning, revision history and backups for you.

Pros: Comparison tool between versions and people. You can see pretty well what someone has added.

Cons: I miss a gear that tells me a doc is loading or something is happening... I can get impatient and keep wacking the submit button.

Overall: We started with DocThreads to solve collaboration/dropbox issues. When a group spans a province, there are rare meetings where all parties are in one place, let alone able to work at the same time. As a non-profit, finding free or inexpensive tools is vital to keep precious funding going towards the programs they are intended to support. DocThreads is a tool we were very curious to try after some of us lost documents and data due to Dropbox overloading.
In working with DocThreads founders as beta testers, we have been able to provide input; our likes and dislikes, and get services, changes, or support almost before we need it if not within hours of suggesting something. It has gotten easier and easier to use, which has encouraged more of our members and volunteers to adopt it.
One thing we really like is the comparison that does not use Word Track Changes so that you don't have all that accept/reject to deal with to get to a final doc. Think of DocThreads as documents with conversations and building and collaborating and editing; whereas Slack is conversations with docs and not much different for documents than using email...which is horrible most days given how packed our inboxes get. Dropbox is storage and editing, but not real-time collaboration or tracking, and when it is full, you can get messed up. We are currently doing our first grant proposal through DocThreads and already our team sees value.
Our team is growing; so too will our use of DocThreads.

Recommendations to other buyers: Archive stuff you are not currently sharing/collaborating so that you don't have a list of Docs that is more than 1 page. Looking forward to an API that will allow us to embed DocThreads for our members so that they logon once to see documents that are relevant to them. We have been working on some things like this and can use the links, but how nice if we have our one site that becomes our dashboard to our collaboration tool!
