Comments: BuildingConnected has been a lifesaver.

Pros: Being able to quickly and clearly see who is bidding, and for which scope is invaluable. I can pull up the Subcontractor history, and see past project and our relationship stats at a glance.

Cons: Web based, so if the servers are down you will be dead in the water. Having some sort of manual backup or PDF of the project list is imperative.

Building Connected was more focused on up to date General Contractors than an old Sub Contractor.

Pros: This software had loads of great features and integrated project management tools. It imported your data base for simple software transition with your client directory, and tracks and manages your project with a nice easy to use dashboard.

Cons: It just wasn't right for a sub-contractor in the sheet metal industry. It also did not allow for importing our client directory from a DOS run software basically requiring someone to do data entry for weeks before we realized this wasn't the software for us.

Overall: The only benefit we received from this software was an understanding on what didn't work for our business.

Pros: We love that all of our estimating is in one spot! Easy to access and track! We literally log in and add all the plans or drawings in one spot!

Cons: The only thing we don't like is that vendors must creat their own account, even though it's free, it is harder to get some of the subcontractors to do that.

Pros: The free version offers so much that you don't even need to buy the full version. It integrates with many major project management software companies like Procore. The sales team and customer support are top notch! Almost ALL of the subcontractors we use are already on Building Connected which makes it very convenient.

Cons: The integration could be a little better. Other then that, there are no other glaring shortfalls I can see.

Overall: *Integration with Project Management Software
*Has a large spectrum of subcontractors
*Great Sales and Customer Service Team

Comments: I've been using BC for a little over a month. I am a Project Coordinator for a TI company, and my Project Manager uses it as well. It makes it easy to access subcontractor bids and keep everything organized in one place. Communication is great through their messenger tab-- I like that you can email everyone in the project, a certain trade, or people who have yet to submit a bid. One thing that I wish was a part of the basic version is syncing your job walks to your calendar. We are taking the extra step to send out job walk invites and then add them to our Outlook calendar.

Pros: -Ease of Use -Organization -Printable Reports -Messaging tool -Customer service/help team is very responsive

Cons: -Does not sync job walks/bid due dates onto Calendar

Recommendations to other buyers: -This is a great tool for teams to be able to keep all project info. in one easily accessible area. -Great program to start out with, especially since it's free!

Comments: Needed an easy to use, easy to implement bidding tool to distribute RFP's and build smart bidding lists. Building Connected so far is keeping up with my needs and is so much better than the other tool we were using.

Pros: Price, usability, easily implemented and I can access from anywhere. I prefer web access and some online tools seem to be trying to hard, but this one fits in nicely and responds well as an interface.

Cons: In estimating, you are only as good as people who use the tool, and if a vendor is old school (most are), they won't always interact and respond through the system. Getting vendors in through the gateway is hit and miss, but this isn't a fault, per say, of the tool.

Recommendations to other buyers: For a free, online bidding tool, this hits all the high notes. If you want to pay for the Pro version, you get even more, should you need it.

Pros: What I like best about this software is that it helps keep us organized as far as documents, messages and bidding status of subcontractors. It's easy to maintain and track all of these without need to do a lot of extra steps. It's also wonderful because we can keep notes right in the system and everyone in our company who needs access to this can stay up to speed on what is going on within our bidding process.

Cons: It would be great if the bidder search feature were more detailed as sometimes bidders are selected who don't necessarily perform the type of work we're looking for or they don't do work in a certain area despite coming up as a match.

Recommendations to other buyers: We set up a few test projects as a way to try out all of the different options. It is also helpful to send a test invite to a secondary email so you can see what it looks like from the subcontractor's point of view.

Pros: User friendly, subcontractors quickly adapted to it.

Cons: Cannot send links to files directly and be downloaded from a link, the user must sign into the program. We often use Hightail to get unique links that do not require the end user to sign in.

Recommendations to other buyers: How quickly can someone unfamiliar with technology adapt and successfully use the software.

Pros: The system is easy to use and is a great way to get large amount of information out to a large number of people quickly and efficiently.

Cons: There is nothing in particular that comes to mind that I dislike about this site.

Recommendations to other buyers: I recommend looking at the product as a whole, and what it brings to you or your company.

Pros: The timely information available to me. To be able to see when a vendor views the ITB and/or responds.

Cons: The fact that most email servers recognize the ITB as spam and it kicks to their spam folder.

Recommendations to other buyers: Follow up with a phone call to see if the vendor received your ITB.

Pros: The rapid bid set up is what has really sold us on this product. Being able to drag and drop files, set up bid packages, invite bidders, and type in standard information at such a quick pace has been amazing.

Cons: So far, we have had no issues with this product. The tech team and our business development manager have helped us above and beyond,in so many ways.

Recommendations to other buyers: Try it! The easy flow of the program, the ability to be so organized, and get reports such as the ones that they have integrated have been a total game changer for our company.

Pros: The interface is so user friendly- in one click all your documents are uploaded and sent out to your vendors! The BuildingConnected team is always there for any doubts or concerns.

Cons: It probably requires some kind of a browser upgrade or a particular setting- some of our subcontractors have not been able to use it for the same reasons

Recommendations to other buyers: I like how organized this software is- unlike others which I've used previously, where you have to scroll all over the screen to find the item you're looking for- here, all sections are organized in a very user friendly manner.

Pros: It makes posting jobs and finding sub-contractors extremely easy. The support team is quick with replying and help should you need it. They reach out for suggestions and feedback as well which is nice.

Cons: Some minor kinks in the software but most have been eradicated. Anything beyond that would just be nitpicking.

Recommendations to other buyers: I highly recommend using this site. You won't find another service that offers more for less.

Pros: I can contact all of my potential bidders at the beginning of the project and get plans in their hands early. Then I just have to make a few follow up calls and when I make those calls most of this bidders have already seen the plans so when I call them I get a solid response instead of them saying "I don't know send me something and I will think about it". Then when bid day approaches I can send an email reminding everyone it is coming. It is easy to send out addendums and changes as well with just one email instead of several.

Cons: The only thing that could make this software better is a mobile version.

Recommendations to other buyers: This is probably the best product on the market for the price.

Pros: Setting up and sending out projects to bid is SO much easier than any other system I've used- we're talking minutes to setup and publish bid packages, as opposed to hours in some other tools. Uploading files to this system is blazing fast. Ability to create templates for bid packages and contacts to create your bidders lists. Copying info from other projects, and predictive text entry in most fields. Searchability for vendors within our own templates, and across the network. Also, BC support is probably the best I've ever worked with- very fast response time, and good direct follow-ups with the end users.

Cons: Only a minor item- need to be able to provide a link within email messages directly to files posted in the system (rather than attaching to message), so it will track the view/download history of contract documents... but I know the development team is working on this already.

Recommendations to other buyers: When evaluating, look at the cost benefit for speed of setup and sending out project info, as well as ease of use for the end users. Less time spent with phone calls or email questions with 'technical difficulties' leads to a much more streamlined operation! And if your users do have troubles, as i said above their support team is top notch. If evaluating this product, definitely try the pre-qualification feature too- this adds a ton of value right within the same system, rather than having separate tools and contact lists to maintain.

Pros: As a user of a competitive system I can vouch for Building Connected's ease of use. Very slick interface and even those in the company with limited experience were up and running after just a few minutes. Their data base of vendors/subcontractors is pretty extensive. We do work in some remote locations around the country and there is always someone in the radius search we can use. Customer support is awesome! Very responsive and people actually answer the phone! Who does that?

Cons: No Outlook integration. We have a shared calendar for all our site visits, proposal turn in, etc and this requires manually updating that calendar. If the system had it's own calendar on the opening dash board, that would be handy as well.

Recommendations to other buyers: It's free, what have you got to lose!? We gave it a shot for a couple of months and are now looking at the Pro version but even the Pro is cheaper than other platforms I've used.

Pros: The thing I like best about BuildingConnected is the fact that our SUBCONTRACTORS like BuildingConnected. They find it to be straight forward and easy to understand and navigate. Everyone at BuildingConnected has been very friendly and responsive to our requests.

Cons: We have contacted BuildingConnected regarding any concerns we have had and they have been addressed in a timely way.

Recommendations to other buyers: Give it a try. It has improved our subcontractor response dramatically.
