Director Information Services ### "Review of the MIRACL M-Pin product" 5.0 Overall Rating 5.0 5.0 Ease of Use 5.0 5.0 Features 5.0 5.0 Customer Service 0.0 0.0 Likelihood to Recommend 10/10 September 23, 2020 MIRACL provided excellent subject mater expertise that was used to convince the government policy makers that M-Pin satisfied their requirement for a suitably high strength credential to protect citizens and government services. MIRACL provided excellent technical and operational support. Pros M-Pin was selected as an authentication credential for use in an Identity Provider service utilised by UK Government Departments. M-Pin provided a cost effective and extremely secure cryptographic token that negated the need for the user to create an eight (or more) character password or utilise a security code sent via SMS. The M-Pin is only known by the user and is not stored anywhere, thereby further enhancing security. From a user experience perspective, the creation of the M-Pin was very easy and understandable. The authentication process was simple, with the user only being asked for their M-Pin to be input with no requirement for a username to be entered. In comparison to other authentication credential types, M-Pin was very cost effective. Cons Whilst M-Pin provides a very secure cryptographic token, it was difficult to convey to a user the extent to which M-Pin makes them more secure in comparison to alternative methods, as the cryptographic methodology is a complex subject. In addition, the user needed to be made aware that the registration of the M-Pin was linked to the user’s browser / device combination, again a feature that enhanced the security but required the user’s understanding and recognition. Response from Vendor January 6, 2021 Thank you for your candid review of MIRACL Trust. MIRACL Trust breaks the unwritten rule that if you improve your security, your usability will suffer. When we present a login that is quicker and easier than passwords it's possible that users may not understand they are using true Multi Factor Authentication. So if you want to advertise your improved security we suggest that you communicate with the users during the enrolment period or during any transition from legacy security to MIRACL Trust. We have also added some additional tool-tips, and unobtrusive pop-ups, that explain some of the security benefits and the fact that their device has been enrolled. The fact that the huge improvement in security is completely transparent to the end user is a great endorsement of our belief that MIRACL Trust presents the lowest user friction of any Multi Factor Authentication technology available today.
