Finance Manager Civic & Social Organization Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Great flexibility for building a workflow for grant management" March 17, 2021 5.0 Pros I like the transparency and the ease with which we were able to implement the software into our grant management procedure. The forms are easy to build, I can create a lot of them to cover the gaps for subsequent applicant communication. We were also able to do blind review to eliminate biases and separate groups of reviewers with different sets of questions. Cons 1) The number of seats comes expensive. As a charity, we have a pool of scientific volunteers who give back to the community by reviewing grants with us. But with the limited number of seats, we had to narrow down the pool to the bare minimum and restructure the whole review process in order to fit in our tight budgets. 2) There isn't an open API available for us to integrate into our mobile app. There is only a read-only API that we were able to connect to but it gives limited connectivity and doesn't allow us to sync the internal grant management process with external-facing community commitments. Cons Not easy to view all NGOs by region, type, or status. Not easy to view the status of the NGO if it's going from a review to approved status. When sharing a campaign with external audiences, for example outside Cisco, the minimum amount is $11. As someone who has worked in publishing for years, Submittable makes doing submissions 100% easier and saves me countless hours of time, that I can now happily devote to my writing projects. Pros As a writer, I absolutely love how easy Submittable makes the submission process to me. I simply on the name of a publication, review what they're looking for, whether they have fees or not, their deadlines, and choose to submit my writing or not, all in an easy to use interface. Also, I can easily review all of the work I've submitted under the submission tab, so I can what was accepted or denied, and keep track of all the publications I've submitted my writing to. Cons I honestly can't think of anything, because before I found Submittable, I did had to research publications, deadlines and all of the information has at just a click away, by myself. Get what I need quickly and expertly. Pros WizeHive took our application process online foe the first time. It eliminated time consuming paper work and imp\[roved efficiency by orders of magnitude. Most important. it made the process so much easier for our applicants. That was a big big plus. Cons The system isn't as intuitive as it could be. Folder arrangements, reports and archiving could be improved. February 6, 2020 5.0 We have had a good working relationship with WizeHive. They are responsive to our needs and make us feel like a valued client. Pros The software works consistently, is fairly easy to configure to our needs, is right-sized for our organization, and cost-effective. I spent / wasted hours of time working with grants previously, and the ease at which the applications are built and reviews are submitted through this software would have saved me a great deal of time. I am incredibly appreciative of how Submittable works and how easy it was for applicants and reviewers to access information. Pros In previous experiences with grant management and awarding, getting from application to review to award could be incredibly cumbersome. Submittable allows for a very streamlined process where everything is done under one umbrella. Cons There's a lot to learn. A lot! It takes a little while to feel comfortable with the process, but once you get it, everything is pretty intuitive. Review Source MB Micah B. We host festivals throughout the country bringing together art, music and wellness. This requires having submission forms for all 3, plus a number of others, including an Art Auction. Submittable became the solution that we didn't even know we needed. The Art Auction is just the latest example of something that we have done in the past but finally realized Submittable was the best method. But it was their customer support that was the key. It was through discussing our needs with them that we were able to go forward. As we began using the system, they were always there to answer questions, provide an answer and take our feedback, which then resulted in changes that made for a better experience. I find that they are still just an email away. This is rare, but is why I am here writing this now. As the Technical Director for O+, I am always looking for that technological answer, but I am also always weary as often new tech can go unused, can be un-user-friendly, can be daunting to learn, etc. which then makes it actually the wrong answer. Submittable is maybe the best example I can give to how tech can really be just the right thing. Thank you. Pros Easy to use, and can be used very broadly. Great customer service. Great design. The reports in real time are amazing! All of your information is stored in one place. Cons There are some small preference things, but they will just make a good product great! Director Non-Profit Organization Management Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Excellent Value for the Money" October 7, 2020 5.0 Data management is actually something I look forward to now that we have Zengine, and even those on our team who use the system less frequently agree. It is a relatively complex application and requires some time to get familiar with the structure, but we've found the time investment to be well worth it. In fact, the effort we've put into setting up the database to fit our needs is saving us time as we increase the number of records and enabling us to improve other workflows outside of the Zengine space. We highly recommend it and in fact have already done so with another grantmaker. Pros Zengine has completely transformed our workflow and allowed us to organize applications, grant disbursements, and review processes in a way we never could have managed using Google Docs and email. Those of us who use the system regularly can easily find what we are looking for, and we have confidence that data isn't slipping through the cracks. The dashboard views are helpful for our board, and we are already getting a glimpse of how we can use the database to create robust reports. Cons The only thing we miss is the ability to be notified (e.g. by email) if something has been submitted through the portal by an external user. But we've found a satisfactory workaround. Pros Submittable offered the layout and tools needed to improve our submission process. Creating submission forms & portals is super easy and takes very little software experience to understand. Cons While it is easy to use and offers a great layout, the software is still in development changes and can be a bit limited to how creative a user can be. Submittable currently has a gallery view setting but only works with pictures- would love to view PPTX and PDF files as well. In this capacity, it does exactly what I need it to do! Pros Once I found the organization to which I wanted to donate, it was easy to select the money and direct it to that organization. Cons Finding the right organization to which to direct my money is sometimes difficult. This isn't really Bright Funds' fault, but it does make the platform overall more difficult to use. October 5, 2017 5.0 Submittable WORKS, and their customer support is unbeatable! Pros Submittable can handle so many different document types that we never could ourselves. They listen when we have suggestions/requests. Everything can be tracked - no more lost manuscripts! They've made it possible for us to offer books at the same time someone makes a submission, a great option for us. And they can issue refunds with ease. Cons Searches (especially across a lot of categories) sometimes are a bit slow, but we do have a LOT of categories and a LOT of submissions for the software to sort through. We're so glad to have Submittable, a respectable and caring group that has the ability to keep up with technology challenges so we can do the work we love doing. Review Source PW Paula W. They did an excellent job of laying out the steps and processes for developing a robust grant management system, which will help our organization ensure strong controls for the deployment of public and private grant funds. Cons The setup process was easy - if you have some level of technical knowledge and an idea of what sort of processes to put into place. We were building our processes at the same time we were developing the system with WizeHive and that made things a bit difficult. Reason for choosing Submittable The WizeHive product was recommended to us by another organization because of their good experience. We did not review other options. Review Source BR Beth R. Working with the Learning & Development Specialist has been critical to our use of the software. Pros The software is highly customizable to our needs. Cons We were able to extend our deadline for launch on our end but Wize Hive did not extend theirs so the implementation process was rushed. Very happy with the product and customer service! Pros Zengine has been a great product for our organization. We were previously using Select, by WizeHive, which is being replaced with Zengine. There is a lot more functionality with Zengine. I am able to put more of our overall process into Zengine, cutting down the "back and forth" with our other platforms. Cons There are a few things that we were able to do with Select that we cannot with Zengine, but the Help team has been great relaying our requests to product development. Cons I wish I could edit some of the fields in the submission form to require a certain type of answer. Pros This software has already saved us considerable staff time and paper. Creating a form is easy, as is organizing and exporting the data. Our panel of community grant reviewers appreciated how easy it was to access, take notes on, and score the grant applications this year. Cons We've not yet come to a satisfactory solution for managing grant-related correspondence.
