### "Unity is the industry standard for game dev"

February 9, 2020

5.0

A great tool, and the best one for game devs who want to build multiple platforms (not native).

Pros

It builds iOS and android reasonably well. The ability to iterate with the inspector in a sample scene is great!

Cons

There isn't enough industry standard around Unity - Their attempt at unity hub instead of github is ridiculous - why try to beat github with buggy software that misses key features - you can't see commits easily, there's no PRs, etc. There's many versions of unity, and they're always trailing behind the iOS and android requirements. As a result, if you don't keep updating your unity version (which is troublesome), you end up not being able to build either iOS or android, and then you get a lot of deprecation warnings when it works.

### "Unity is a very good platform for game developers"

March 15, 2023

4.0

In my opinion, Unity is a game-changer for anyone interested in game development. Its powerful engine and user-friendly interface make it an excellent choice for creating immersive gaming experiences.

Pros

Having struggled with the initial learning curve, I can say that Unity is a game engine that requires patience and dedication, but its ability to create games on different platforms makes it worth the effort.

Cons

In my experience, Unity can be demanding on computer resources, which can cause performance issues and may require costly hardware upgrades to run efficiently.

### "Unity Is Great for Indie Developers"

April 29, 2019

5.0

As an independent game developer, I need an engine that allows me to produce high quality games while being easy to use. I tried many other engines, but Unity offered me the right number of technical features and advancements in an easy to use platform. I use the engine because it allows me to publish to virtually any platform without additional modification easily. I also like that to create iterations of my builds I simply have to make my modifications and rebuild the files and upload the changes. I do make use of some of the available system assets from the asset store and most are easy to modify. Finally, I am also able to create and upload my own assets to the store for additional revenue during the sometimes-long development times of my projects. For me it was the right choice for my business and I would recommend it if you’re just starting out or if your looking for a full featured game engine.

Pros

Super Easy to get started with. Easy to use complete assets available from the unity Asset Store. Unity Is always evolving and keeps adding new features and Technology. 1000’s of tutorials online that help even a novice make and publish games to any platform.

Cons

While there is no licensing fee based on percentage there is a required monthly fee if your game brings in over $100,000 in revenue.

### "Unity makes game development easy"

December 29, 2019

4.0

I started game development with Unity. It is very interesting and addictive. Lots of popular video games are developed using Unity. It is very powerful game engine with good physics simulations and 3D environment when compared with other game engines. Unity is more suitable for beginners in game development. They can start learning Unity easily and move on deeper step by step.

Pros

Unity is very simple from the way it looks. But we can do advanced works using it. Because of this simplicity, we can learn Unity easily with the use of online video tutorials on YouTube. No need to follow expensive courses on software development. But we need some knowledge about programming to go deeper with Unity. We can find many online solutions for the problems arise when we doing projects using Unity. As a game engine, Unity has great effects and supports for many platforms.

Cons

Some programming parts for the games developed using Unity are very hard to understand. In some cases we need powerful hardware to do simulations. Otherwise simulation will not run smoothly. Some plugins are very expensive, but we need to purchase them because we need those plugins frequently. Compatibility issues can be seen with new updates. Other than those small issues, Unity is a great platform for game development.

### "One of the most important tools of the century for Game Development"

June 15, 2020

5.0

I have been using Unity almost since from the beggining of the launch. It is constantly updated and is very important to my job, I use the tool to teach game/apps development, so it is a tool to make money. There are other tools, but Unity is still the better and economic viable one.

Pros

The integration of graphics with programming is the magic of Unity, another importante role is that it is supported with C# programming, an excellent and organized object oriented tool. Unity is clean, with a lot of support, tutorials and examples and a large community to the exchange of ideas. The software is constantly updated that it is a good characteristic. With Unity we can create and publish games for a variety of platforms.

Cons

It is not fast lo learn, but I do not think this is a big contra. I think that with dedication and interest to search and test solutions you will walk far in the game development world. Unity has some issues about compatibility with old projects, but not so serious. The solution for those issues is to create a clean and organized project for the case you will need an upgrade into the future.

### "Amazing Free game engine"

February 5, 2019

5.0

It's one of my daily programs to use, i had lots of fun creating prototypes of games and apps and its quite easy to do stuff even for a non programmer user thanks to unity plugins in the asset store.

Pros

\-Free -Easy to use -Lots of documentation and tutorials -It keeps improving in every version -Asset store and user created plugins -Being able to create games/app for all platforms -lots more

Cons

\-Still buggy -Some asset store plugins/packages stop working properly after each update of unity -If you are working with a small team you need to rely on 3rd party programs like github to manage your project properly since unity team work is still not working well -UI optimization, text elements, outlines and shadows to text and sprites are unoptimal.

### "Best game engine for small/medium game companies"

November 29, 2019

5.0

I have been using Unity since 5 years, and I really like what they are doing with the engine, is evolving pretty well, I use it for work and don't have any complains.

Pros

The engine is constantly improving, there were many critics saying that this engine was only for small games or for amateurs and even if those comments were kind of true, at the moment are tons of new features for creating a high quality product.

Cons

I don't have any complain for the use itself, it is more about the image it already had, it may look like an inferior game engine comparing it for the great projects; so if you are a game developer who uses Unity you may have the image to others like you are not as skilled as a developer who uses Unreal Engine, for example.

### "Usage privé comme professionnel !"

October 20, 2022

5.0

### "I can't say enough good thngs about Unity"

October 22, 2023

5.0

I love making games in unity, and it is the best software out there for that in my opinion

Pros

It's free for a single develope like myself, and it is so robust and full of complimentary assets and methods to make a game that I feel anyone could make a game now.

Cons

If you break something within the world, you better hope you backed it up or its a mess.

### "Unity can get you on your way down a gamedev path"

January 16, 2023

4.0

Pros

You can use Unity to produce commercial games for free. The only time you pay is if your project generates more than $100,000 in revenue (or funding). This means you can take advantage of AAA-studio level gamedev tools without shelling out a dime.

Cons

As with any complicated software, there's a lot to learn. If you're not a coder, understanding how exporting variables work in the Graphical Interface will be a help.

Alternatives considered

[Unreal Engine](https://www.capterra.com/p/158599/Unreal-Engine/)[Godot Engine](https://www.capterra.com/p/234843/Godot-Engine/)

Switched from

[Godot Engine](https://www.capterra.com/p/234843/Godot-Engine/)

I go back and forth between the two. Unity requires C# and seems to be better object-oriented. It also has a large library of objects, graphics and more to pull into you projects. That said - Godot 4 is around the corner and the betas that have been released show that it will likely compete for quality with Unity.

### "Easy to use, with a catch"

June 28, 2019

3.0

Unity works, and you can make games with it. If you are a programmer I'm sure many of my cons do not apply to you, and if you have a full development team and a budget, even fewer apply to you. For the lone developer looking to take their first steps into the industry though, it can be daunting and frustrating. Power through, however, and you'll be able to make a full game that could kick start your career.

Pros

\-Unity is free -Unity is straight forward -Unity provides small developer teams the ability to make games -Unity provides an asset store to acquire high quality assets for game design -Unity can create AAA quality titles

Cons

\-Unity has a fairly poor reputation you may have to fight through when selling a game -Unity allows "asset flips" that both harm Unities reputation and saturate the marketplace with poor products. This harms consumer trust in Unity games, and may make your product a harder sell. -Unity asset store isn't well regulated. You can purchase something that does not work. -Unity has multiple built in features that are simply useless, or outdated, requiring you to search for replacement assets or create your own.

### "Unity 3D"

March 5, 2023

With years of using this application the experience has been awesome

Pros

I like to create games in my spare time. Unity has been a very great tool to bring your 3D work to life.

Cons

Very expensive. Single license is ok. But a professional license is like buying a new car

### "Simple and powerful"

February 26, 2019

4.0

Since I started using Unity a realized that we can easily complete an application or a game much easier than what it was before (I'm thinking about what we have before like Ogre 3D Engine for instance, it simple cannot compare).

Pros

Unity really works the best either for the experienced programmer as for the one who is just starting. It has a very extensive Scripting API in different coding languages, all very well documented. It is easy to use and to learn. When I say powerful in the title, I mean it can be a tool with multiple faces. We can create everything from 2D standard applications but also 3D games and interactive mediums. As a platform, it is very complete and offers many integrations with different hardware and other platforms. Another strong point it's the active community that lives around Unity.

Cons

When we go deep in the application, maybe because it is a closed package, we are somewhat limited if we need to dig deeper than what the software offers. My only complain is that we cant change deeper than what it offers.

### "Unity Review"

February 19, 2023

5.0

Overall I had a great experience with Unity and there are tons of features to experiment with. It is fast and easy to use. Also, the integration with AR and VR makes it much simpler for me to develop AR and VR apps.

Pros

The wide array of assets available and also support online really helps to speed up application and game development. Other than that, the game engine is very intuitive and easy to use.

Cons

Occasionally there are bugs now and then, such as shading or rendering pipeline.

Pros

This great company that has all the appreciation and respect I did not see a lot of problems from them and childhood memories all together many of the company's productsHigh quality products are sweeping the online marketAnd I see that its advantages are many

Unity is one of the most common and versatile tools for gamedev, specially when you are starting as an indie, it is well fared against it's no code competitors

Cons

The recently change in the terms of service and revenue have made it a not very viable tool for indie devs, it's better to explore some less greedy options

### "Best choice for a game engine"

September 21, 2023

its a tough choice between Unity and Unreal though I ultimately chose Unity as it was more multi-purpose.

Pros

When starting out the is a huge amount of resources to get started both from Unity itself and from other sources along with an integrated asset store with a tom of free content

Cons

Unity Hub and compatibility issues with older generation editors can be a pain in the ass. To be functional you often have to have more than one version of the editor installed

### "Game development for beginners to experts."

December 29, 2020

5.0

Good for quick product development when the development cycle is short. Integration with Asset Marketplace is very good allowing for integration of 3rd party resources speeding up product development. 3rd party interest is high with a lot of educational resources available on the web as well as a large quantity of good YouTube tutorials. Building an application for multiple platforms is fairly straight forward unless you need hardware functionality limited to specific platforms.

Pros

Unity is easily accessible for beginners as well as experts. Extensions available allow for no-code development of games and applications for both Mobile and PC/Mac markets. Unity provides a marketplace integrated with the software allowing for purchase and installation of assets from 2d graphics collections ready made for game development to advanced weather simulation software for immersive 3d visualization and game development.

Cons

Large scale changes to code functionality from version to version results in incompatible code and limited reuse of previous development work. C# is used as the core development language for the Unity product, but function format has changed from version to version requiring development projects to standardize on specific Unity versions to prevent rewriting code to new standards. Online documentation is fairly good, but lacks sufficient examples. Tutorials produced by 3rd parties is quickly obsoleted by changes to the software.

### "One of the Easiest Game Engines to Use"

May 6, 2019

5.0

When I need to import and test a model I have created Unity allows me to do this very easily. The setup for each model takes no time at all and the engine has a simple animation workflow with the editor’s features. For the most part, I learned the engine very quickly after coming from another product to Unity and once I got the basics down everything kind of fell in place. The engine is always being updated and new features are being added. I fully believe that this engine is going to continue to develop into an amazing tool for game creation. I fully support Unity and highly recommend it to anyone wanting to make games.

Pros

• Thousands of tutorials available online including free courses directly through the Unity website. • Easy to use when considering some of the learning curves with other advanced engines. • Cross-Platform support available to publish on multiple platforms with ease. • Make both 2D and 3D games with a simple button click. • Fast and Helpful Tech Support. • Free Version is available to learn the platform and even make free games.

Cons

• Uses Monodevelop for the coding IDE, but you can change this to use something more robust. • The terrain system is not the greatest however, there are 3rd party plugins that can offer the needed systems for high quality development.

### "The best and most cost-effective method of creating and publishing games"

March 30, 2021

4.0

My overall experience is pretty decent .Even though Unity is a game engine, it can be used for a lot more than just games. I've been using the Open VR  libraries for VR development. It has been used by learners to develop advanced gaming products. It contains a huge number of extensive guides as well as a large asset library. This makes it possible for even those who are new to game production to join.

Pros

Excellent and user-friendly GUI. For individual developers, this is a good price model. A versatile and powerful platform for creating video games. To save time in the asset shop, there's a great library .The asset store's reusable coding is a big bonus. Finding libraries that solve the issues you're trying to solve will save you a large amount of time.Unity is much easier to learn than any of its rivals in the room due to the availability of online video tutorials.

Cons

The user interface is overloaded, which can be annoying. Managing navigation and organisation can be difficult. Unity's VR development necessitates the use of a lot of third-party features that could be integrated into core Unity libraries to reduce external dependencies. Since game creation is so difficult in and of itself, Unity's interface is often very complicated. The multiple choices in Unity's gui can be daunting to the novice, considering the efforts of its developers.
