### "A perfect entry to game development for anyone"

May 22, 2024

5.0

I have had a blast using it and would recommend it to anyone. I've created a large number of prototypes and using GDevelop has even encouraged me to get into 3D art again as I have the time to work on the art now it doesn't take me hours to make a game in other engines!

Pros

The ability to cloud save is amazing. It allows me to develop on my PC or Mac or even phone/tablet without having to worry about GitHub or similar online saving. An in built art creation and editing tool is great to have and Piskel, built into GDevelop, is an amazing tool. Such a powerful tool. A simple ability to add new objects as assets either provided on the GDevelop Asset Store or my own assets is easy to use and clear to integrate. Adding new conditions and events make a lot of sense, and everything is contextual which means debugging is usually only required to ensure everything is happening in the right order. You can put together a prototype that you can expand upon in no time at all.

Cons

I wish there were more in built tutorials on some of the more difficult aspects - especially 3D. I understand 3D is new but creating 3D FPS or 3rd Person Controllers would be an amazing addition.

### "I liked it when they were 2d focussed"

Just a bummer, helper \[sensitive content hidden\] being the face of literally everything doesn't help, might as well call it \[sensitive content hidden\]develop

Pros

The reason I picked it over Godot was because it seemed like it was doing a good job caring about 2D,

Cons

but it seems they've swapped all their attention to 3D which honestly seems pretty dumb given the target demo was I thought supposed to be individuals or small teams.

Thank you for your feedback. Since your comment, we’ve improved the software with a new “Learn” tab. It includes official courses, step-by-step guides, video and text tutorials, and links to our documentation. You can also check out the GDevelop YouTube channel, which now has over 220 educational videos. We haven’t forgotten about 2D, even though we’re currently working on 3D, which is highly requested. 2D remains at the core of our priorities, with dozens of updates continuously improving the interface and addressing many community-reported bugs. The most recent major 2D update was the Tilemap feature.

### "Why G-Develop?"

May 22, 2024

5.0

G-Develop is amazing, I have recommended it to many people at my college, I show up to expos to show off my stuff and people always ask what program I made it in. G-Develop team, thank you for your work!

Pros

Usually with other engines, they grant you powerful tools, but what's the use of a powerful tool if you don't know how to use it? I feel as if this is G-Develop's biggest strength, providing you with understandable code without watering down code's potential and flexibility.

Cons

What I like least about G-Develop is the lagginess- though, most of the time, it's on the user's end to optimize the game to the upmost ability, and it also depends on hardware.

### "GDevelop 5 Review - Cesar A."

May 26, 2024

5.0

Quite excellent, helped me finish my first game and got me back into game development after years away from it! Thank you!

Pros

I like the shop and the assets though I wish there was more original content. I also like the general color scheme, layout and flexibility of panes and scene management.

Cons

Sometimes the searchbar inside the events sheet can be a bit wonky and won't show you what you're looking for unless you type it very specifically and accurately. Debugger was hard to use, but also not a great abundance of community support in terms of videos on that.

### "Gdevelop Review"

May 22, 2024

5.0

Overall, using GDevelop was a really fun experience. I have been using it for 2+ years and have made many mini games in it before. Really a good game engine if you want to make 2D mobile games, or if you want to participate in game jams.

Pros

GdDevelop is a really easy-to-use game engine that has many built-in features that makes game development a breeze. It also has a great, growing community with lots of potential. It also van export to many platforms, such as web, android and pc. Moreover, the game engine is open-sourced and can be used completely for free.

Cons

Asset management can get quite messy while using GDevelop. For example, the animation editor would require you to splice your spritesheet into individual frames first in an external engine before you can use it in your game. Another thing is that the features may be quite slow or buggy. Exported games (especially web exports) would also sometimes have occasional drops in frame rate.

### "GDevelop is in my opinion the best solution for creating 2D games and applications quickly and easil"

September 11, 2023

5.0

To date, I have developed and published seven projects on Google Play, sorted from the most popular:"Map of air alerts of Ukraine" is an application that displays threats to the population of Ukraine in real time in a graphical form on the map of Ukraine. This app was built entirely with built-in features of GDevelop, no external solutions like JS code, the app has been downloaded by 350,000 users all the time, and it brings real value to people. It doesn't seem like a lot of downloads, but according to GDevelop statistics, the application has been launched about 20,000,000 times in all the time! "Gearbox" is a manual transmission simulation game. For all the time this project was downloaded by 150,000 people and this is exactly the project that I released in the first month of my use of GDevelop and this proves that you don't need to study for years, but you just need to do it and everything will be fine. "Submarine" is a game in which you can build your own submarine and install cannons on it to counter underwater enemies. This game was created within 10 days for GDevelop's building-themed jam, but that hasn't stopped it from garnering close to 4,000 downloads to date."Weather Feels Like" is a weather app that focuses more on temperature sensations. Again, it was created with built-in functions in the engine, without the use of external solutions, it works perfectly interacting with the Internet in the same way as the Alarm Map.

Pros

Ease of use - in GDevelop you can really quickly and easily learn how to create games and applications of any type, I say this from my own experience, since I came to this engine with almost nothing in programming and development, but after a day I was able to create my own , although a simple game based on an example, and a week later I released another game, but it was more complicated and a month later I released my first successful game, which I will talk about a little later. Frequent updates - Gdevelop quite often introduces new features and improves old ones, and especially quickly solves bugs related to engine functions. And of course the community - the GDevelop community is the best community I have ever met in my life, if you have a question or a problem, then 100% there will be people who will definitely help you, even if your problem is very simple and obvious, or vice versa very complex and generally not obvious. You can contact the community at any time and in almost any language and they will definitely help you.

Cons

I would not say that this is a big minus, but at some point in my work, I lacked the variety of integrated ad networks SDKs for mobile devices. At the moment, if I'm not mistaken, only AdMob is available from such networks, but I would like to have at least some alternative, for example, if Admob decides to stop cooperating with you at some point, then you will lose most of your profits ( if you're a mobile developer like me) and you won't be able to recoup those profits by changing the network (unless you're a genius programmer who can integrate the ad SDK on your own). But in general, I'm glad that Gdevelop is developing and I hope that new ad networks will appear and be supported in the future.

### "Great teaching environment for children wanting to move beyond Scratch, but not ready for coding."

September 13, 2023

5.0

It is a perfect fit for our STEAM programming classes. I don't ever know what type of game the class will develop as we start with Concept Ideas, Prototyping and Development. Gdevelop's flexibility lets us go many directions from resource management, to top down adventures, to platform games. While I occasionally have to step in and lower the students expectations, that is usually a time restriction rather lack of GDevelop's capabilites.

Pros

It provides all the features for complete 2d games without overwhelming my elementary students. It's development and capabilities have sky-rocketed over the last couple of years and I'm excited to see where it heads from here.

Cons

While I occasionally come across bugs in the different exports they are either quickly resolved or adequate work around offered.

Reason for choosing GDevelop

A good balance between capability and ease of use.

### "3 Commercial Games Shipped on Steam"

May 22, 2024

5.0

I created and shipped 3 fully developed indie games with GDevelop over the course of 7 years, to critical aclaim by fans. I couldn't have done that with any other engine. Gdevelop made it possible to develop the second game (Red-Tether) in only 7 months, shipping 2000+ units and reaching 98% favorable reviews. Overall the engine is extremely efficient and well suited to make professional 2d games in short timeframes.

Pros

Very fast development cycle, easy to use, lots of tutorials and explanations on the wiki. The no code aspect is developed the the fullest, in contrast to other engines I tried. GDevelop actually does allow you to make full comercial games without actual programming.

Cons

My main grope with GDevelop is that version 4 is unfortunately is no longer supported, eventually preventing me from updating my existing games made in that version. In some regards it also feels like a superior version in terms of usability. GDevelop 5 is slower than 4 in some regards and at times it feels like using a badly optimized website instead of a desctop app. It struggles when project get to substantial sizes. This causes things like massive delays to simple tasks like opening variable list, failing to load event sheets in their entirety or scrolling to random events when using cntrl+z. Loading external data through xml was more flexible in GDevelop 4 and some aspect of the animation viewer where more streamlined.

### "GDevelop: Why it is the Best Tool for Creatives"

September 14, 2023

5.0

Overall, I have had a very positive experience using GDevelop. I use it mainly to bring my inspirations to life, and it has been more than adequate in doing so. I work primarily in trying to make fun educational games, and it has been a very easy, consistent platform to bring my creations to life in a satisfying way.

Pros

For creative people, I like that GDevelop provides an instant platform to translate your creativity into a truly interactive media for your audience to enjoy. Besides games, you can create interactive notebooks, educational material, a digital journal, the list goes on and on. The ease of use of the block code makes it very easy to build your scenes, the bountiful tutorials help to see how things work, and the forum community is very active and eager to assist in a friendly and helpful way. It is an amazing tool to work with!

Cons

So far, the only cons I have found in my use of GDevelop are two things. One, I greatly wish that the window size/position would be remembered upon launch of the app. GDevelop always launches full screen, and it would be awesome if it would just launch to last window size/position. Second, I do wish there was a better way of implementing tweens at times. It does seem like there is a bit of tiresome code that needs to be implemented for a tween sequence to work. This may just be the way tweens are, but it is a bit tedious. I bit better official documentation would also be helpful.

Reason for choosing GDevelop

I did consider GoDot, but once I tried GDevelop, it just "fit" my style. I have yet to regret my decision as I feel I have so much more I can still do and learn in GDevelop, and I do appreciate that the GDevelop team is very active with their product.

I teach coding to beginners of all ages. Sometimes, I have to create an activity or a game, using which I can teach coding concept to beginners in fun way.

Pros

Easy of learning. You can create a game in 1st 5 mins of its use. You can create more complex games after learning about behavior's. Creating your first platformer is just 5 min away. Any one can create games with gdevelop. It helps you visualize sharpen your problem solving skills.

Cons

Tutorials about behavior's and their internals are very less.

### "A solo gamedev's review of GDevelop"

September 13, 2023

5.0

Creating games with GDevelop has been a fun & fast experience so far, it's enabled me to quickly push prototypes and see what works and what doesn't. once a prototype is approved fully finished the game into something playable doesn't take as long as other engine's because of its no code ide.

Pros

Gdevelop has a lot of features that are super nice and well implemented, the no code editor makes it super easy to create a base game within minutes, the animations for 2d games are really easy to set up aswell and makes using gdevelop a true alternative to other engines.

Cons

I feel like the monetization, aswell as the steam integration needs to be added/improved. its documentation is a bit unclear and steam isnt implemented at all which is a highly requested feature.

### "What Are Some Of GDevelop's Features and What Makes Them So Good/Bad?"

September 28, 2023

5.0

I have had a great time using it and I expect to keep using it in the future. I really hope that this keeps expanding with more features and more code added to the no-code part.

Pros

I really like how easy to find and use GDevelop is. Not many things are locked under a paywall and the features are really nice and neat. The idea of letting the community build upon this is an amazing idea and makes practically anything possible! I also love the idea of adding ads into your games to be able to get monetized.

Cons

I dislike the lack of a movement script or a change of perspective. These things would make it way better and much more compatible with other games.

It's a particularly interesting tool for getting started in video game development. Once you've got the hang of it, you'll be able to create prototypes in no time. Getting to grips with the tool is one of its drawbacks, however, as the documentation is not very well developed and the interface will take some getting used to.

Pros

### "One of the best No Code Game Engines."

September 10, 2023

5.0

Delighted with it as an engine, the community is amazing and I have made great friends through interaction on their forums and discord. I will take part in every GDevelop Gamejam and community event as they are such positive things for both adoption of the engine, pushing it further tech wise and growing the community.

Pros

The software is amazingly easy to use, the event sheets are great, my favorite thing compared to competitors is how easy they make user based extensions using the visual scripting solutions, and the amount that are freely available from the community built into the engine.

Cons

The event sheets are still missing some UX/UI elements compared to the current "king" of event sheets being Construct 3. The 3D features are impressive but are in an infancy state compared to much of the engine.

### "Gdevelope got me back into game design!"

September 14, 2023

5.0

I have been using G develop as my primary engine and I have completed one game and I have started on another, which is going to be my first actual game release.

Pros

I tried game design on unreal engine 4, and it was kind of difficult to use. I only used the no code portion of the engine, but it was still so complex, and I was new to game development. I kind of quit because I got nowhere in Unreal engine 4 after about five years. When I started, GDeveloped, I just fell in love with the engine because it was so simple. I actually created basically a full game in a couple months as opposed to years without a success.

Cons

One of the things that unreal has that G developer doesn’t, or at least I don’t know how to use it much and it seems a little bit complicated in the engine. That is the debugging feature. And you, E4, you can run the engine and then look at the code, and it will show real time the engine processing the code, which helps you see where your hiccups are, this was my favorite feature of you in for, and it would be really cool if GDevelop could implement something like that.

GDevelop has accelerated my game development journey tenfold, and I truly believe that is the case with even the most knowledgeable developers.

Pros

GDevelop is a great 2D game engine, and its only limited by the developer's imagination. The community is extremely helpful, and the community extensions are unbelievably good!

Cons

### "A no hassle game dev tool."

September 13, 2023

4.0

I'm using it for fun, testing, quick and dirty prototypes and it's a marvelous tool for kids and semi-serious devs.

Pros

It's a super light tool to use. Gives a feeling of doing a game right in the game due to a lack of actual scripting editor. There are, however, advanced funtionalities for the curious/experienced ones, which I am not. It's also extremely easy to use, which makes you focus on the art more... I'd assume most users looking into GDevelop appreciate that. The extensions are just amazing. You can easily do basic and semi-advanced things extremely quickly, like making player move, laying out the levels, integrating physics and such.

Cons

The UX/UI could be much better. Initially that was a turnoff for me but it grew on me eventully, and it has improved since in both speed and usability.Would love a console export support (especially Switch, which GDevelop seems like made for) but that is probably not hapenning. Finally, seeing more reviewed extension (with better documentation) and more support for devs that build extensions would be great — they have the potential to make GDevelop skyrocket (like the recent 3D implementation). There are some amazing extensions out there (Dynamic Water comes to mind), as well as advanced examples you can get on GitHub, but they're hard to find and/or understand with limited info.

### "Best 2D Game Engine Hands Down"

September 28, 2023

5.0

I would highly recommend this engine to anyone who wants to learn game development or wants to try out 2D development. GDevelop is inexpensive and a fantastic starting point for devs and makes game development accessible.

Pros

GDevelop holds a special place in my heart. It is so easy to pick up and make games in, even if you have no coding experience making game development accessible for once. Recently they started adding 3D game development into the engine, I am extremely excited for the future of the engine.

Cons

I LOVE GDevelop ! It fit my needs, is much lighter than a lot of others game engine, and can be used everywhere on a lot of devices !GDevelop is helpfull for fast prototyping, and you can easily switch from a proto to a real project.

Pros

One of the most important thing I like in GDevelop is the hard work done by the developement team to give us a realy simple but powerfull tool to create video games, of any size.I like the shop directly into the engine, and the fact that we can make video games without coding, but with the ability to add JS code in our projects if we realy need it.You can use the editor everywhere, on a web browser, even on your smartphone or tablet !Last but not least, the simplified export option to Android devices is a key feature that I like the most !

Cons

For experienced developers, Loops are a bit confusing.External Layouts can be more complicated to integrate than it does, but with some try, everyone can use this !

### "GDevelop: The Free and No-code engine - Perfect for those who don't know how to program!"

April 19, 2024

5.0

GDevelop is a easy to use engine that requires no coding! I myself am an artist, this engine allowed me to make my own games even though I don't know how to program code. Its been a blast using this engine and making my own games in it. The best part is the the IDE is open-source, meaning I don't have to pay for a subscription if I want to!

Pros

You don’t need to be a coding expert to use GDevelop. It’s super user-friendly and you can make a game in no time. The event system is a total game-changer for me. It’s perfect for beginners. The Engine has an awesome community, the folks in the GDevelop community are super cool and helpful. They’ve got a new template for in-app purchases that’s way easier than other engines. Need to prototype fast? GDevelop’s got your back. You can switch from a prototype to a real project in no time.

Cons

The built-in pixel art editor, “Piskel”, can be a bit of a pain. It sometimes crashes when you hit undo. Feature Overload: There are so many features that it can be tough to figure out how to use them all. While GDevelop is great for basic 2D games, it doesn’t pack the same punch as some of its competitors like Unity or Unreal Engine, since it runs in Javascript and HTML its not recommended for making big games. The documentation could be clearer, its a bit vague and outdated. Although the tutorials on youtube from the official channel are pretty good. The mobile app has almost all the same options as the desktop version, but the layout isn’t as useful, and arranging sprites/zooming can be frustrating. The 3D feature is still pretty new and needs some work.

### "Not a programmer Try a no-code IDE"

September 21, 2023

I love using the software, very easy to set-up projects and export them to different platforms. I like that they added a pixel editor and sound editor to the game engine.

Pros

What I most love a Gdevelop is that the IDE is so similar to visual studios, I pick up on things right way. Even if your a novice, Gdevelop has plenty of useful videos on Youtube. I enjoy the no-code code approach, this is helpful to someone that doesn't understand coding but what to create something.

Cons

The only feature that is truly missing is an option for console export like Xbox, PS and the Switch.

### "A coder experience on a no-code engine"

September 14, 2023

5.0

Overall, I was surprised by this game engine, in a fantastic way. Its community is evolving, the engine is growing its potential every day, and it is easy to pickup and very performant. So far, I'm sticking with it for the long-term and I believe it's great not only for teaching game design basics, but also reaching high-quality projects.

Pros

I think it's way more intuitive than other engines. Without watching any of its amazing official tutorials or reading its complete wiki, you could create something simple in your very first try.I code on a daily basis, so I was used to working with other engines/frameworks that use mainly code to work out functionalities. I bumped into GDevelop accidentally and I liked how powerful it can be, I strongly believe its current potential has not been fully exploited. The extensions systems, ability to write custom code, and external layouts/events makes it also interesting for experienced developers. But it's still very beginner-friendly, allowing almost anyone with no game design experience to come out with a game/interactive story/graphical guide. It is free and open-source, two things that I really value, and it is constantly evolving.Haven't seen another engine matching the export features of GDevelop, in 10 minutes and no more than 5 clicks you could have an HTML5, Android, Windows, Linux, macOS distribution, ready to go. And only one click away to publish to their own game page.

Cons

It has a really cool mobile app (with almost all the same options as the desktop one) but its layout is not as useful, and arranging sprites/zooming can be very frustrating.Although it has support for tiles/tile maps, it would be very convenient if it has it as a native feature.3D still needs some work, it's a recent feature, and I'm sure it will evolve. One thing that may be a deal-breaker is that it currently stores all the game logic in a single-file. Whether this is really convenient for sharing or copying your game, it could be frustrating when you are collaborating through git, for example. I think that changing the way logic is stored could help a team collaborate better and reach bigger projects and easier scaling.

Hi Marcelo! Project sharing is evolving in GDevelop. I'd love to talk to you about how that is changing, and the work that you do using GDevelop within your industry. Let me know if you're interested!

It has been amazing. There has been so many memories I've made using Gdevelop. It makes me so happy to be on this site!

Pros

I personally loved that it's free! While designing I truly wish I could just say thank you to gdevelop! I have recommended to many people and it just makes me so joyed to read deep into the update logs!

Cons

I feel that I wish that they would urger users to read up or learn more about the tools and to not be afraid to start new.

### "Engine for small, and middle cap games."

May 22, 2024

5.0

I've been using the engine for 2 years, it's the best for 2D games with a free no code system, and with subscriptions that fit the budget of people from poor countries (like me). best friend of developers, small independent businesses, and teachers.

Pros

Easy to begginers. lighter can run in a broswer. Community is helping and growing constantly. you can do small games, and middle games realy fast alone, or with a team. For teacher is realy helpful manage your students.

Cons

isnt the best engine for indie AA game. few opportunities for contract work.
