### "Unreal is by-far the easiest and most intuitive game engine I've worked with as an artist in the gaming industry. "

October 6, 2025

5.0

The design features, whether official or created by the community, allow for a truly exceptional experience as a creative. I highly recommend this game engine for both expert and novice artists working on video games for any platform, whether that be PC, Xbox, or Playstation.

Pros

Implementing and working with art assets created in outside programs is very easy. The blueprint scripting features allow artists to code without a deep knowledge of scripting languages. This node-based coding is extended to their shader system, which allows us to build out material features with relative ease.

Cons

Some features can change drastically or get clobbered with new releases from time to time. Their roadmap isn't always followed very well and some features can and do get dropped. Feedback can often be ignored on their message boards and is quite slow.

### "Unreal Engine is incredible but not flawless."

December 18, 2024

4.0

Unreal Engine is essential to my work. It is very powerful, open source, and extensible. It is great to work with until you hit some unfinished or under developed feature which can be a massive roadblock.

Pros

Advanced rendering technology, a wide suite of tools, staying close to industry standard with all of its tools. Also, its open source code is critical to my work with Unreal Engine .

Cons

There are far too many unfinished features. Also, the focus of recent developments has not been very useful for game development.

Switched from

It was clear that Unreal Engine was more actively supporting its developers and its software. The rendering power of the Engine was also important.

Really enjoyed using this program, games turn out fun to play with the gaming community and the price is worth it

Pros

Graphics are wonderful and realistic. So many options to customize game play and data for the price you pay

Cons

Cons for Unreal Engine is getting your program out there but that’s not really any fault of unreal engine clearly as they have many great games designed

### "Pros and cons of unreal?"

May 11, 2025

5.0

Honestly it’s not that bad. Granted my game still has a long way to go so there maybe some problems yet to surface, but so far no trouble with 2D game on either Android or iOS. Even runs pretty smoothly on a 7 year old Android phone which I did not expect to even be able to start it.

Pros

Industrial standard for game development The best toolset Source code available Friendly for non-programmers (blueprints etc) Free stuff like Quixel megascans and other community-oriented sponsorship EGS Fortnite Marketplace (in general)

Cons

Marketplace (bad search, broken assets, legal issues and etc) Sometimes over complicated Not great for 2d & mobile games

### "Creating spectacular interactive environments"

October 12, 2024

5.0

This program has a very user-friendly interface. Once you start understanding the complexity of the program, you quickly adapt, and what used to be tedious turns into a discovery of very interesting functions that bring significant results to all your projects. It is a program that offers possibilities—many possibilities to create new worlds and detail them according to our needs and ambitions.

Pros

It's a very useful and powerful tool for game development and 3D environment presentation, thanks to it, I've been able to create very realistic and interactive environments. It offers many possibilities as it covers different areas of three-dimensional design, from virtual tours to high-quality audiovisual production. The lighting effects and material presentation are perhaps the best on the market, all this with great fluidity, without taking hours to render scene by scene like traditional rendering software.

Cons

One of the biggest disadvantages of the software is its complexity, which, although it can be interesting to discover, limits its reach to the general public. It has several features that can be simple, such as importing and arranging 3D objects in the environment, but others that are quite complex, such as programming and animating these objects, as well as compiling projects, which can be a headache for those who are not familiar with programming and computing and come from a design background.

### "Best game Engine Available"

April 7, 2025

4.0

My overall experience with Unreal Engine has been pretty positive. I had no prior experience creating my games but gave them a shot. I like that they include basic tutorials to get you started. I watched different videos online to help understand some of the features they offer.

Pros

Unreal Engine is a game development platform. Many of the games you play today were built using Unreal Engine. One of the best features is the graphics and lighting systems used when creating a game. Unreal Engine supports development for many different platforms. You can create games for PC, console, virtual reality, and mobile devices. The assets library is also very diverse. Other users can share/sell assets to help in developing your games. Unreal Engine is always adding new and better features.

Cons

Unreal Engine is very difficult to use if you have no prior experience. Unlike other platforms, Unreal Engine requires high-performance hardware to run.

### "Unreal Engine since 1998 : What a phenomenal Engine push the limits "

March 31, 2025

5.0

I'm in awe in every release from 5.0 to 5.5 how they keep pushing this engine to the limits

Pros

Nanite by far is the best thing that revolutionized high polygon game renderings. With GPU's pushing insane graphics capabilities there is no limit to a game developer or even movie productions

Cons

The learning curve is step, and the breaking changes just puts you off delaying progress.

### "Unreal Engine is a game engine full of capability, but at the cost of a steep learning curve"

May 14, 2020

4.0

Overall, my experience with Unreal Engine has been quite good, but challenging. I'm able to create very visually stunning prototypes and projects using its Blueprints system (since I do not use C++) but for larger projects, I would probably choose a different engine that's more suited to my needs. For larger teams with prior Unreal experience, this would definitely be the engine of choice. I have also learned a lot using Unreal Engine and learning more is always valuable, even if you switch products.

Pros

Unreal Engine is a fantastic and beautiful game engine, and its clear Epic have taken huge steps into improving their engine from the days of Unreal Development Kit. There are two main things I like most about Unreal Engine. First is their visual scripting system known as Blueprints (previously known as Kismet in Unreal Development Kit). Blueprints allow users to create gameplay and scripting events without writing any C++ code, using a drag and drop visual node-based editor. It is intuitive, quick to test and very easy to use for those who do not wish to write C++. Very useful for setting up and prototyping game events and logic quickly. It is entirely possible to create an entire project using these Blueprints alone. Secondly, the sheer scope of what you can do in Unreal Engine is to be admired. For any game development task, Unreal allows you to do it right out of the box. Creating shaders, levels, game logic, mechanics, custom graphics, almost anything you can think of when it comes to game development, Unreal Engine has a ready to use tool to create it. I believe this to be a valid reason why so many gaming and virtual reality companies choose Unreal for their projects.

Cons

With all of the capability of Unreal Engine, ther main thing I like least about this software is its sheer learning curve. Unreal does have tools to build right out of the box - however, learning all of them takes a very long time, with the exception of Blueprints. It is not helped by a user interface that isn't particularly intuitive, unless you know the ins and outs of working with it, which can take a considerable amount of time. Again, their visual scripting system known as Blueprints is an exception to this. Each of its tools is complex and thus, can take time away from development. With that being said, there are countless tutorials and Epic has created a very helpful online manual for all of these tools but even then, in comparison to other engines, it can be intimidating.

### "Best Game Engine Ever"

December 1, 2022

5.0

It's best game engine ever, you can do everything. Dont think about it just an game engine. Its more than it. I really really do love it.

Pros

First of all its free. You need to pay after a million dollars. Can you believe it?Secondly its UI/UX. You can understand everything just by looking at them. They've designed the game engine like you wanted. Even from simplest thing to most complicated thing. You just need a couple of clicks.Third, coding and no-coding option. You can make games with no code.

Cons

Nothing, i really really do like everything about that.

### "If you want to build a game and have 0 experience, THIS IS FOR YOU!"

September 21, 2023

5.0

Fantastic, this is the only program I would recommend for low experience first timers, and even the more experienced, although for those reading this review, if you are more experienced, you probably should go read another review from someone who has been doing this for years. But if you are reading this as a low-experienced person, this is the program.

Pros

There are so many pro's to using Unreal Engine it's ridiculous, so I am just going to keep it general because I doubt I could even remember all the specifics. Simply put, it actually FEELS like a company that WANTS you to succeed. I came into Unreal Engine with 0 experience and have been able to program a game (it's unfinished) where my character can move, my map is procedural generated, I've got enemies that move/attack, I figured this out from complete scratch, I have never coded anything in my life and I was able to do this with free tutorials (except for one time where I paid $1 to someone's patrion to help with enemy detecting players and stuff like that). Back to what I was saying at the beginning where they actually want you to succeed, at every turn it felt like there was someone there helping me, for instance I needed combat items and pick-up-able items in my game, and I was 100% I was going to have to ALSO learn a program like blender to make those items and import them over, nope, they have a free store IN the engine that allows you to just grab stuff like that, and they are fantastic, not just some crap. They have different numbers of triangles for each item, even the one (I'm blanking on the name) but where the triangles reduce when you are further away. They have thousands of materials for anything you would like, they legitimately want to allow people like me, with 0 experience, to make anything they want, and the do a heck of a job at it.

Cons

There are no cons, there are legitimately no cons. Now take this with a grain of salt because I came into with 0 experience and am probably around 500-1000 hours in now, so there could be cons I could not identify, but I think even someone with experience would agree, because even with the nodes that are designed to make programming a game easier, you can edit with C++ if you are some advanced-game-making-wizard and want to make them customized. I just don't see why you would make a game on any other platform at this point.

### "As a tool for the entertainment industry and computer games, it's fantastic!"

March 12, 2022

4.0

Using it to create lifelike simulations that can be played in development games, it has assisted in the resolution of numerous issues because of its excellent visuals and ease of level design. People can forget they're in a virtual reality simulation and other projects if they use the VR plugin correctly and the material editor correctly.

Pros

You can use it from novice to expert, thanks to its user-friendly interface and extensive tool set. Compared to its rivals, it provides better visual technology and material editors that are extremely useful to game designers. Even if you've never coded before, Unreal Engine's visual scripting makes it simple to create a game.

Cons

Compared to Godot or Unity, Unreal is a more difficult platform to use. Because of the small size of the Unreal community and the restrictions imposed by studio contracts, many people with expertise in Unreal are restricted from freely sharing their knowledge online. In contrast, with Unity, there are literally thousands of websites, youtube channels, courses, and other resources available to anyone who wants to start making games from scratch. Finally, you can make 2D games in Unreal, but it's better to use GameMaker or Unity for 2D games. As a result, the community and engine support have grown and improved.

Pros

Unreal engine is very beginner friendly. I personally found it very easy to get started on my most recent gaming project, and I can’t say I’ve run into any problems.

Cons

5.0

I never knew anything about coding when I started using Unreal Engine but I stood out because of the Blueprint Visual Scripting which is within the software package.

Pros

What I really enjoy about Unreal is it's ability to provide much larger control over physics and graphics elements which makes creating visual effects easier and realistic.

Cons

I find my computer freezing often which made me think that the software requires somehow a much stronger graphic card to render graphics.

### "High end engine, but no more beginners friendly"

September 28, 2023

Pros

Unreal Engine is the most powerfull all-in-one editor for video games creation, and much more ! It's driven by newests technologies that make this engine an absolute must have !And last but not least, it's free !

Cons

Unreal Engine 5 suffer from his high end technologies. There're so much integrated tools, features and options, beginners, solo developers and small studios can easily be lost.Android export is not easy, and optimisation of mobile games can be a real pain...

### "Real Time Game Development Engine"

May 26, 2022

5.0

Everything was straight forward. The interface looked easy and amazing from the beginning.

Pros

I like Unreal because of the access to high quality assets. Not only that, being a software with many good developers to release updates and improve the software through providing blueprints to non coders, Unreal is the ideal Game Dev Software. One amazing thing is that it supports all formats from other 3D modelling software. Another thing i like about Unreal is the wide communities willing to support beginners into the Game Dev world

Cons

Nothing is impossible with Unreal but only when one has a high end machine.

### "UNREAL ENGINE "A GOOD COMPETITION FOR 3D REPRESENTATION SOFTWARES""

July 27, 2021

4.0

I have used this software the last 6 months, and every time I like it more, lately i use it for 3d virtual tours for architecture projects and i love it

Pros

Unreal is a very good rendering software, which is very easy to learn and use, one of its main characteristics is that it gives you very good results for the time you work, many things such as lighting, reflections, etc. are very simple with this software and you don't need to watch tutorials for a long time. The interface is very good and you can start with a default template which will help you a lot depending on the project you want to carry out. Being a software focused on realistic representation for video games, it also works very well on hyper-realistic representation for architecture. you can create renders and 3d animations with very good lighting and rendering of textures.

Cons

One of its problems is that there is not a large community of people who use this software on the internet, so it is very difficult to find references and examples on the internet, besides that it is a very heavy program and requires a computer with good specifications to run perfectly.

### "Empowering Creativity and Innovation"

May 17, 2023

Unreal Engine has emerged as a popular tool for architectural visualization due to its advanced graphics capabilities, real-time rendering capabilities, and flexibility. Here are some key aspects that contribute to the overall experience of using Unreal Engine in architecture:Unreal Engine's advanced rendering features, such as real-time ray tracing, global illumination, and dynamic lighting, allow architects to create highly realistic visualizations. The engine's ability to accurately simulate lighting, shadows, reflections, and material properties helps architects convey their design intent and create immersive experiences for clients and stakeholders.

Pros

Unreal Engine boasts a vibrant and passionate community of developers, artists, and enthusiasts. The community actively shares knowledge, tutorials, and resources, making it an invaluable source of support and inspiration. Epic Games, the creator of Unreal Engine, also provides extensive documentation, official tutorials, and dedicated support channels, ensuring developers have the resources they need to overcome challenges and succeed.

Cons

Unreal Engine's extensive feature set and powerful capabilities can make it initially challenging for beginners or those new to game development. The learning curve can be steep, requiring time and dedication to understand and effectively utilize the engine's functionalities. However, the engine's extensive documentation, tutorials, and community support can help mitigate this challenge.

### "Easy to use, with wide variety of games already in the engine; needs better community support"

January 2, 2021

5.0

I've enjoyed it, and have created some fun 3d environments. As with most EG resources, its dependable and gets the job done.

Pros

There's already a wide array of games available to run in the engine. Since its so widely deployed already, the array of available games for sampling and ideas are endless. I also like how they constantly provide updates and patches for bug fixes, sometimes multiple times a week. There really isnt any way to beat the pricing, unless a platform is going to pay you to use their engine ( LOL)

Cons

The editor is more complicated that Photoshop's tool set, if that's possible! So the learning curve is HUGE! There's a ton of options that are not relevant to current projects, so the tool set should be dynamic rather than static. For an engine this widely used, it's baffling that there is not a better online community for support, ideas, and think-tanking. If Epic can't develop their own, they should fund some 3rd party projects. Wish they had better 2d tools.

### "Unreal engine helped us to build High quality games"

February 28, 2021

5.0

I am using unreal engine for almost a year, initially it was quite difficult to learn the software but when i come to know about it's features i was impressed, no need to go to different programs. this software is an all in one package for us. it is really powerful software for studios and game developers

Pros

One of the best features of unreal engine was the graphics of unreal engine is very impressive we can build games we can create cinematics and animations, it's a complete package for gaming studios. we can do modeling landscape, create a complete game using unreal engine.

Cons

One drawback i faced lots of time is that the lagging issue, when we add assets to the unreal engine project it lags a lot. and also it crashes several times and also the interface is quite hard to use but still those who know how to work on unreal engine they can build some amazing masterpieces.
