### "Amazing experience with Unreal Engine 5"

December 21, 2022

5.0

Overall, I am extremely happy with my experience using Unreal Engine 5. It has exceeded my expectations in every way and has allowed me to create some truly stunning content.

Pros

The graphics and performance in Unreal Engine 5 are top-notch. The toolset is also very user-friendly and intuitive, making it easy to create high-quality content.

Cons

There is a bit of a learning curve to get started with Unreal Engine, but once you get the hang of it, it's worth it.

Reason for choosing Unreal Engine

I chose Unreal Engine over other alternatives because of its excellent reputation in the industry and the fact that it is constantly being updated and improved upon. The support and resources available for Unreal Engine users are also top-notch.

### "Great for advanced game development "

July 3, 2019

5.0

For a while it was our primary engine and it served us really well. But, over time our needs just got a little too much, and writing custom extensions in C++ got too out of hand, so we switched back over to Unity/

Pros

For starters, almost any 3D game made in Unreal Engine looks beautiful. By default it applies a ton of Post Processing effects. (See Cons). As opposed to other engines, almost any feature you could want is Built right into the engine itself. No need for external packages such as visual scripting, shader making, etc. These tools make it easy enough for a beginner to pick up, but are still great for advanced use in full studios.

Cons

Well, for one, the system requirements are much higher than Unity's. This means that you can't run it on any old computer. The other frustrating thing is that the language is C++, making scripting a little difficult to grasp at times. Additionally, the pricing is annoying too. It's free to use, but you have to share 5% of revenue. For an indie studio this can come out to be a significant loss.

Reason for choosing Unreal Engine

It had so much more functionality built in.

### "The First choice of every AAA game developers"

May 3, 2019

5.0

I am a professional game developer and working on three game projects out of which I want to make one game not so extraordinary means I want to make a basic game which is nearly impossible with Unreal Engine because it doesn't support some 3D models and their textures and so I am using a different Game Engine to develop this kind of low-end game. But other than that, Unreal Engine is really helping me a lot in making high-end games .

Pros

With Unreal Engine, I can make extraordinary and big size and high graphics games. This game engine provides many features which can be really appreciating in the way of developing a High-End game. Games developed using Unreal engine are greatly optimized and suits almost all types of devices except a few old featured devices. With Unreal Engine, I can import high quality 3D models and high quality textures for them. Also, we can import high quality Sound effect, without getting the game overloaded.

Cons

Though, everything is nearly fully-featured but sometimes it may become annoying when you can't import 3d models of unsupported format and also sometimes, the textures doesn't get fitted on the appropriate models making it difficult to speedily develop a small thing. Also, some of the features of Unreal Engine requires high practice and skills unlike other Game Engines.

### "The best for 3D games and real life scenes"

November 20, 2023

5.0

Pros

With UE5 the next generation of games are going to be amazing. The fees are straightforward, the asset market place is great (plus Epic give you free assets each month), the tools are easy to use, there are many guides on YouTube if you're stuck (and a huge community), its easy to make games compatible on many devices, plugins are plentiful, the list goes on really...

Cons

The no code option is great but with each update, some bits get reworked and removed meaning that you'll need to use different blocks to do the same action. This can mess up certain mechanics and make doing some bits difficult (granted it would probably be easier if i learnt C++ better).

Switched from

[Unity](https://www.capterra.com/p/158591/Unity/)

The no code option is better on UE5 plus i found the learning curve easier and the layout a bit more friendly and customisable.

### "An honest review of Unreal Engine"

January 25, 2024

5.0

Overall Unreal Engine is a very good engine, it is a technological marvel that created an almost real life graphics.

Pros

I like Unreal Engine because of the beautiful graphics and visuals it creates and with the release of unreal 5, it boosts the visual fidelity and also introduced nanite technology.

Cons

Due to Unreal Engine being visually good, it has a demanding computer performance and needs at least a mid-tier computer to be able to run it. Also it is not user-friendly because of how complex the tools and UI of Unreal to new developers.

### "The Top Game Development Software"

July 25, 2019

5.0

Unreal Engine is a free to use software to develop games for any platform that you desire. I use it for my personal projects and it has been doing justice ever since.

Pros

Unreal Engine is the single best game development software. It provides high quality graphics and the most realistic lighting ever seen. The Unreal asset store is filled to the brim with the highest quality assets created by the users of Unreal Engine. Unreal Engine also has support for motion capture and VR making your workload less of a stress and more fun. Blueprints is Unreal Engine's easy way of coding for beginners, but you can always switch to C++ code if you are advanced enough. If you are stuck on a particular section of your project, there are many tutorials online that are very useful. Unreal Engine offers many different types of templates for games that you may want to develop, some include first person shooters, third person shoots, vr and many more.

Cons

I have yet to encounter anything wrong with Unreal Engine, there are monthly updates that fix bugs and add new features. I must recommend this to anyone looking to get into the game developing business as there are so many useful feature that Unreal Engine provides with each new update.

### "Unreal Engine Review"

June 3, 2022

4.0

Overall Unreal Engine is still the best game engine to go for when developing higher end games. However, it should start integrating more VR/AR aspects so that more users could use it to develop not just 2D games but also VR and AR games.

Pros

It is extremely powerful, in terms of having high quality assets and rendering lighting. Unreal Engine is perfect for developing high end graphic intensive games. The rendering of lighting and shadows really helps to make the scenes more immersive too.

Cons

The integration of an IDE (e.g. Visual Studio Code/Visual Studio) isn't as seamless yet. There are still flaws, such as the lack of autocompletion sometimes, and bugs when sync-ing the code in the IDE and Unreal Engine.

The experience with unreal engine was amazing and it has been more than one and half year me using and I never had any problems except for some glitches. But the software itself is flawless as for my personal experience with time I understood many things about graphic design too it did help me alot as a newbie at first

Pros

The software keeps getting updates to fix the the overall software as clean as possible and easy to use even for a newbie the graphics this thing provides is amazing the only thing is to enjoy all the fun you have to have a powerful system to handle the specs

Cons

The least thing I liked about the software was the price which could be little low but I understand there is a whole team behind working for hours making it better to use so it does make it up

### "Unreal Quality"

October 16, 2018

5.0

I have enjoyed every game powered by Unreal Engine. I am always excited when a new game is released utilizing unreal engine as I know the graphics will be top notch and that game-play will be visually fluid. In fact, Unreal Engine is one of the only game engine I know by name, as it is the only one I've cared to commit to my memory. Any developers looking to make a game competitive in today's visually astounding market, need look no further than Unreal Engine.

Pros

Visual fluidity and detail are two of the most important factors in games that I thoroughly enjoy and want to replay at a later date. Unreal Engine delivers.

Cons

I've searched my brain for any negative comments about Unreal Engine to leave an honest review, and can confidently say I don't have a single complaint. I am absolutely pleased with this brand's performance, and can't wait to see what they'll work up next.

### "A game engine for graphics nerd !!!"

September 21, 2020

5.0

It is brolly. I am currently using it for a 3d puzzle game. I am really excited about it !!!

Pros

I will list it's pros in following points:- 1.) Super excellent graphics:- the game engine is meant for this. And even better, this will become more better in the future 2.) Free of cost:- the game engine costs nothing ! You will only be charged when your annual earning are more than $1 million dollars ( I am even ready to pay more to face that day) 3.) Huge team:- unreal engine has many employees to care care of the engine. This factor is important during bug hunting 4.) Tested platform:- unreal engine has been used for many AAA games and nowadays even studios are also using it for movie production

Cons

1.) C++ :- this is quite a controversial point. For some it is a boon but for some it is a backdrop. And in my opinion other languages should also be offered for game development 2.) Blueprint is still not mature. It requires much more work 3.) Game engine is very heavy. Requires powerful computer to run 4.) Compilation takes a good amount of time 5.) UI could have been better

### "It's a technical marvel, but know what you're getting into."

May 26, 2020

5.0

Unreal Engine is always interesting to use in game jams for graphical fidelity, though at times Unreal Engine projects can become a mess when working on commercial games. People need to know accurately what they're getting into when building a new game in Unreal, because for some it's overwhelming, for others it's like trying to get a game out of modding a first-person shooter, and then for some it ends up being a good choice for their game. Once your whole team is experienced with it, Unreal Engine can be quite good, depending on which genre of game you're going for.

Pros

Unreal Engine games are excellently visually impressive, and the cross-platform functionality is very good. Even though it's more technically impressive, it's still more stable than Unity. The updates are frequent and prioritize bug fixes more accurately than Unity, and Unreal's pricing is certainly second-to-none.

Cons

A lot of aspects of the editor are unnecessary to make a good game and end up getting in the way more than anything else. The occasional crashes are always saddening, but it's still more stable than most of Unreal's competition.

Reason for choosing Unreal Engine

Unreal Engine's company Epic Games seemed to have a better outlook than CryEngine's company, CryTek.

Unreal Engine is a powerful game engine that allowed me to make games in school projetcs

Pros

unreal is free for everybody. If you wanna work int the game industry or learn to do code C+++ this is the way to go. Alots of video games that are published by triple-A studio use Unreal Engine.

Cons

It could be overwhelming at first cause Unreal engine has a lot to offer to anyone wanting to build a level, import animation, etc.

### "Incredibly Powerful Tool for Architectural Visualization with Fantastic Pricing Structure"

March 9, 2021

5.0

Our experience with the engine has been phenomenal. The combination of the freedom-of-entry without product limitations and the vast array of free assets and plugins made available by Epic Games has allowed prototyping to progress with great speed. If we had to make all of the materials and models ourselves instead of simply assembling, lighting, and rigging them, it would make previsualization cost-prohibitive for our small team which also juggles many other types of work.

Pros

I love that Epic Games, creator of Unreal Engine, has a pricing model which makes the full version of the product available for free to anyone, and only charges when creators make money from the content they produce.

Cons

There is a lack of broader support in Unreal for 3D assets made in other programs, with the only accepted filetype being .fbx . As it was, assets created by others frequently had to go through a 3D modeling program to export from their existing file type to fbx, often losing some aspects of the data (such as positional placement, scale, etc.) along the way. Overall, however, this is a very minor issue.

Alternatives considered

[Unity](https://www.capterra.com/p/158591/Unity/)

Reason for choosing Unreal Engine

The full, unrestricted version of Unreal is free until you ship and monetize your content. This is an incredible contrast to some of the other options on the market and made it risk free for us to try.

### "AAA Engine at an indie price"

July 9, 2019

5.0

Fantastic but it is definitely geared toward AAA and AA teams who have a few titles under their belt. While they've vastly improved the new user/newbie experience it has a long way to go to catch up to Unity in terms of onboarding.

Pros

Great workflow, super easy to get started, looks fantastic out of the box, has a well documented support base, native dark mode, blueprinting is fully compatible with C++ now, and a very robust community surrounding the engine.

Cons

It can be a real resource hog especially if you're running less than optimal hardware, the content marketplace is dwarfed by Unity's Asset store, C++ is much more complicated than C# or other engine languages like GDScript/Python, and their licensing structure for royalties leave a lot to be desired.

### "Unreal Engine is amazingly powerful!"

June 6, 2019

5.0

Downloading Unreal Engine 4 has been a life changer. I've always loved games and wanted to create my own. As far back as RPG Maker games (Super Nintendo), I was crafting story-lines and choosing the right sprites to convey my story. Eventually I started learning to code using Adobe Flash's Action Script language and went into GameMaker: Studio briefly before I discovered how easy to use Unreal Engine was. Since then I have had complete control over every aspect of my game creation and it has been glorious. I highly recommend Unreal Engine to anyone who has had the slightest inkling of that game maker itch. If you aren't sure, Download it and mess around, its absolutely free.

Pros

\- Top of the line. - Free to use until you begin making money, and even then you still make a large percentage. - Unreal engine's node system makes it easy to accomplish what would take months of learning to write code to do. - Plethora of easy to follow tutorials on YouTube. - Your imagination is the limit. - UI is neatly presented.

Cons

\- With everything that you can do in Unreal, it only makes sense that you need a powerful machine to run it properly. Even then, my personal Microsoft Surface 3 (its old I know) can run Unreal on low settings enough to still work on my game.

### "No matter what do you want to achieve. You can do it with Unreal Engine"

December 27, 2022

5.0

I'm still learning the basics of the engine, following a learning path in the Virtual Production field. My plan is to achieve all the needed skills to work as a VP Previs & Production Designer, to help other creative people to bring their dreams to the screen.

Pros

Unreal Engine is one of the most powerful pieces of software out there. No matter if you work on Game Development, Architectural Visualization, Broadcast, Film or Television, etc. Unreal has tool to every industry and professionals. The most I like of this is the possibility to animate in real time with all the textures and lights in place, making changes in real time when you need it. Also, the capability to integrate and compose video feed in real time, and get in camera VFX, is one of the most giant leaps in film and television development in decades. This can only get better every single day.

Cons

Learning Unreal Engine is not easy, despite the tons of courses, tutorials, and videos out there. Even Epic offers a free learning platform for their community. But you will need hundreds of hours reading and watching content, and a very capable machine to run the engine and test. You will need to invest time and money, but this wort it.

### "Unreal Engine is Accessible and Intuitive"

April 21, 2021

5.0

It has opened a world that I didn't think I'd ever be able to create in. Not being a programmer and being a visual 3d guy, I've been able to create some amazing and complex environments and models in UE. It's allowed me to have another cashflow stream in my business.

Pros

Unreal Engine is well designed to be intuitive and accessible. You don't have to be a programmer to be able to use it and get useful results with it.

Cons

Understandably, some of the features are difficult to learn, but that's expected for complex software. What's most difficult is figuring out the logic needed to use the Blueprints. Even as you don't need to know how to write code, you still need to know the "logic" that code writers use. So, you sort of need part of the coders knowledge. Learning program logic (I'm not talking about syntax here) is pretty difficult but not insurmountable. It just takes desire and time.

Reason for choosing Unreal Engine

It always comes down to usability. I'm able to get up to speed faster and do nicer looking things in UE and in it's primary competitor, Unity.

### "True AAA engine"

April 28, 2019

5.0

Pros

There are so many things I could say about this software I am not sure where to start. Lets start with the wide range of skill levels that Unreal Engine can accomodate. Everything from beginners to programming with Blueprints to hardcore programmers who want to optimise everything and never leave Visual Studio, I am somewhere in between. The tools within Unreal Engine such as for creating terrain and mature and well rounded allowing to create a nice level with relative ease. Definitely ahead of other engines in this regard.

Cons

One con that comes to mind is to do with Unreal Engine pricing. They take a percentage of your income which in my opinion is ridiculous. However, I understand as they should definitely be compensated if you create a game which makes money.

### "The best AAA game engine for professionals"

November 29, 2020

5.0

We needed to create a good looking third person adventure prototype quickly. With its out of the box awesome graphics setup and blueprints came to our rescue. We were able to create a satisfying, good-looking prototype within a couple of weeks because of Unreal. So, whenever graphics play an important role in games, the choice will be Unreal.

Pros

The most prominent feature Unreal Engine offers you is its fantastic graphical prowess. Even without extensive work, you get AAA quality graphics setup ready for you to unleash your imagination on. The lighting, the shadows, the rendering, it just works. You get some beautiful visuals in your games if you spend a little time tinkering around, without much pain. And its Blueprints feature is the best in the industry, enabling you to get up and running very quickly to get started on creating prototypes and even full featured games. And both of these features eclipse any offering offered by any free to use game engines. If you need the best and the greatest, Unreal Engine is the way to go.

Cons

The learning curve could and should be improved for Unreal Engine. Even with previous knowledge of C++, learning the nuances and the ways of Unreal C++ was no easy task. And, Blueprints, although really easy once you get the hang of it, is kind of hard to get at first. To remedy this, Unreal must provide more resources and learning materials. Another of my major concern is that mobile game development seems like just an afterthought on this engine. The Console/PC development is the tops, but deploying to mobile is a hard task.

### "Future investment"

February 23, 2021

5.0

Despite the difficulties of its extensive features, it's an investment for the future. New versions and future games use the same methodology and once core features have been masters, learning new things comes with ease. There's also a lot of information, guides, courses and tutorials available to those who want to learn quicker and more efficient.

Pros

UE has everything needed for creation of games. Their advanced animation trees are an extremely useful resource that has never failed, be it with indie of AAA games.

Cons

To use UE is to put yourself through years of mastering details. The difficulty curve is steep and the advanced UI of the program doesn't make it much easier. It is but a tool for those who already posses knowledge on how to use it, but for small-time indie companies it's an investment of time and money trying to figure out how to achieve their goals.
