Great" March 8, 2018 5.0 Great software this engine exports for a big range of platforms including Linux. The editor can be run on Windows, MacOS, and Linux (Early Access). Pros Epic provides multiple official video tutorials, lots of free example projects and content, an extensive wiki and regular streams showing how to use latest features. Almost everything a game developer wants has a deep and sophisticated tool waiting for them in UE4. No external plugins are needed to make powerful materials, FX, terrain, cinematics, gameplay logic, AI, animation graphs, post process effects, lighting etc. Cons This engine not easy for beginners. Making a full rebuild, including engine can take a good 30minutes. If you plan to use Unreal professionally, you better get some licenses for Incredibuild as well. Review Source Brandon C. I'm still struggling with it as I'm still new to game design, despite being in the industry for almost a year now. It really does try to help walk you through the basics, but it's only for those that are truly committed. There's a reason why it is the industry standard and why people keep coming back to it. The Unreal Engine is an incredibly solid piece of software that will help you make your dream games. (As long as you work your hardest!) Pros This program is the building blocks to the industry of gaming. If you are looking to create a game, this is the place to start. It has a library of free materials to learn and craft from. It is such an expansive program and it covers just about anything you could hope for in game making. Cons It tries it's best to be user friendly, but it's still an intimidating program. If you are a complete newbie, it still is one of the scariest things to dive into. It is an ocean of information being sent at you. It also allows us to quickly iterate on ideas and have a prototype within a day for the most basic of ideas. Pros Who doesn't love playing a game backed by the Unreal engine? I remember seeing shooters for the first time use this 10+ years ago and remember thinking "This is the future" Cons I don't see any cons. I find the accessibility of Unreal as the future for entertainment and immersive storytelling. I'm really excited for future generations to have access to this and how it is nurtured and promoted. How the game playing creates friendships across wifi. It is so cool and one of the best aspects of modern life. Cons The learning curve may not match with ambitions. Pros You can create 3D and 2D games with a AAA game engine for free. There is lots of tutorials to help you get started creating your game. The software is easy to learn. You can create a whole game with out coding using blueprints. Has a huge market place full of assets and all ready made game templates to help you get started on your game. The game engine is flexible that you can create 2D games or 3D games. Cons If you want to code you need to learn c++ can take a bit of time if you dont know it. Not a lot of cons for the engine. Cons Not much not to like really. Files not working between versions can be annoying at times but is to be expected as it is the norm in the industry.
