Pros Easy drag-drop and play! We use this from time to time to make informational content, video installation, and drip marketing materials for customers. Hundreds of templates to choose from, applicable to almost every platform we use. The end product is so prefessional looking! Cons I prefer the old system where you just load all the photos in and can switch between styles. One other thing is that if you click off "Hide Animoto", it still shows animoto when you post to Facebook etc, so I have to download and upload. The cost of a subscription is far more than the value of the product. There are free video editors that vastly exceed the features of this rudimentary interface. Pros Animoto provides an easy to use platform to upload your videos and edit them together using various templates they have. The platform is very user-friendly and they have a decent amount of templates and animations to choose from. Cons The overall app seems a bit expensive for what you get. The templates themselves appear very dated and there isn't a ton of flexibility with the templates. You kind of get what you see. I hope that the Memories format doesn't go away because I find it unique and no other product has what Animoto has! It has always been way ahead of its time! Pros As a teacher, it is so easy to use! I'm able to make highly creative videos quickly and efficiently because of this platform. I don't have time to learn a program like AfterEffects, and that doesn't matter because Animoto can make amazing videos, too. Pros The platform is so easy to use, and it keeps getting better every year. I love having access to thousands of stock photos and videos included in my account. I can make a video of a super specific topic and know I'm going to be able to find all the images I need. Having all the stock audio is great, too. Cons For a "brand", it would be great to be able to input 3 to 4 colors, instead of just two. If you want the text and highlight to be 2 colors plus the background another color, that's 3 needed right there. Review Source JS Jonathan S. She signed up for what was advertised as a monthly 15 dollar a month cancel any time membership. Another app, "M," has a mode with zero control except for the photos you choose. You can't even change the order. And knowing that, it's easier to accept the not-controllingness bit. But a few TINY choices make this a "Thanks but no thanks!" for me. :/ Pros I can't lie: if one were motivated to produce a not-quite-narrative--an advert or "spring break memories!" type video, a tutorial, even--in a few minutes, it would be fine. Animoto lets you drop your media into a box that you then distribute across their templates (which are fine) or into a from-scratch video, and boom. Cons It's not very powerful and hasn't many options--which is fine in some cases. You can change fonts and the order of your media. Something about the way their fonts lay in the video is just UGLY, though. Their animations are... hmm. And their templates only seem to look decent if one's media is professionally-shot. If you have an idea in mind (ie narrative notions or original editing style), skip this one. If you like using animated gifs, keep on looking. (NOTE: You CAN import a gif, it's just that it won't be animated in your video.) Also, the layout of the web app is pretty but not very intuitive. Review Source KC Kathleen C. Marketing Director Higher Education Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Look like a video pro" February 1, 2020 5.0 I was up and running the very first time I tried the app. I created a great 30 sec video for our Facebook page which generated over 26K views. The video looked great, and was so easy to make. Animoto is a great resource for anyone who wants to make professional looking videos in flash! Pros The ease of creating high quality videos extremely fast without using complicated video editing software. Animoto provides a variety of templates that can easily be adapted. You can change fonts and basic color themes, and in the paid version, upload your logo to brand all your videos. I didn't have a lot of videos on hand, but I did have lots of still images. With Animoto, all I had to do was upload photos and place in suggested frames within a theme. I could move things around, sync with music and export the movie in a variety of formats. All very simple. Cons I don't have complete control! I can't make some minor adjustments. Example: text can be places in one of several "zones" within a frame. It's not possible to move the text a nudge! Although there are lots of templates, I wish there were more! Sometimes I need a hybrid type of video...in between "memories" and "marketing." Pros The templates are my favorite part of this software, by far. These include short clips of video, which make a slideshow that would otherwise be just a collection of photos set to music, a much more interactive piece of content that our clients love sharing on social media and with their friends. I love how easy it is to add photos, pace them, decide whether they'll be automatically ordered and paced or if I want specific timeframes, etc. I also think the music that comes with this is very nice and it almost always fits our galleries' themes. Cons Though the templates are the whole point (and, again, one of my favorite aspects of this solution) I would also like to be able to produce the regular kind of slideshow, which I now have to go to other software such as iMovie to make. I have found that adding a solid block of text is not as easy as it maybe could be, and I also have to do it separately. Other than that, no complaints! Pros Compile my clients event photos into a quick 3-4 minute video segment that I can send to them after they pay their final invoice. Cons I do not like the new pricing structures within the past couple years. It used to be a non-tiered plan and now it has three tiers with the lowest tier only offering 720 video, which is kind of a deal breaker for most. The next step up is nearly six times the cost of the lowest tier, which makes it not the most affordable for those that don't create more than a video a week. Reason for choosing Animoto I originally chose it over the other options because of the simple pricing model, but I am now looking for other options since there is no in between tier. I don't feel the value is worth it but also, the ability to quickly throw something together is nce. Pros The quick ability to add images, text, and deliver a final production. The full, high resolution production as well as other size availabilities. Cons It's incredibly expensive for a monthly plan and then the options in the templates do not allow for customization. Some of the templates are corny or old fashion and the ones that are not overly plain. Some do not allow for image adjustments from portrait to landscape. Overall, it could be revised with template options for the cost. If you are wanting to have a lot of control on how your videos look, this might not be for you. If you are trying to get a nice video done that looks like it took you an hour, this is for you! Cons Sometimes photos will look blurry and some slides will look glitchy, even after looking over the quality of the photos. The creativeness of the software made these productions unparalleled and they had several themes to choose from when creating your content. However, this season (2021) I immediately noticed that the themes to select are all very corporate and polished in nature, lack the previous aesthetics that made the software unique, lack diversity of templates, and just plain feels like a boring and cold tool. I hate to say it, but if they don't go back to their old style, I doubt I will continue using this service. Pros Animoto used to be a fantastic tool for individuals who wanted to bring to life events in a slide reel to share with family or friends. Drag and drop and you can have a nice-looking video published in well under an hour. The copyright-free music is already there, nice options for styles. The addition of Getty images and video is very nice. Cons It is not super customizable. The text has to go in one of the predetermined places. That's great for continuity throughout the video, but sometimes you might want the text to move just a smidge so it doesn't cover something. It would also be nice to bulk edit the different frames. And processing the video before you can preview it sometimes feels tedious - but that's not enough of a reason to not use the software. Review Source Robert B. Pros The amount of flexibility and cusomtisation Animoto offers make it a very good service to adapt to your video needs. Cons I feel the pricing is slightly wrong for the service. The first package only allows 720p exports and I do feel that 1080p is just a standard that should be included across the board these days. With that being said each tier does offer more and more content options.
