Once they auto-renew, it's a nightmare to get it reversed. Pros It was OK. MD Photography Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Take care with the auto-renewal! " June 27, 2024 3.0 The option to turn off auto-renewal is hidden away. You may struggle to get a refund after the auto renewal has gone through. So be careful. Pros It works for what it is designed for. I used it a couple of times in 12 months to put together slideshow previews of photoshoots for clients. You can add music and it's not difficult to use. They have lots of YouTube videos on how to use it. Cons The option to turn off auto-renewal is hidden away. Initially, they refused to give a refund after my auto-renewal had gone through. However, I wrote another polite email pointing out that the option to turn this off was not easy to find. They gave me 50% of my new one year subscription back. Not great, but better than nothing and lesson learned about auto-renewals. Interestingly, there is a Government review going on in the UK about subscription auto-renewals and it will (hopefully!) result in companies having to give you notice before a subscription auto-renews Review Source DS David S. Cost is way too high especially when they require a full year's payment up front to use. Poor customer service Pros Very little. Would not recommend this product over the many others out there. No way to do a free trial without having their watermark all over your project. Cons Forced to pay a yearly subscription. Difficult to use. No tutorials. Guest Relations Photography Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Stunning slideshows in minutes" August 21, 2018 4.0 I use Animoto on a daily basis to produce slideshows for wedding photography clients. Pros Its ease of use is definitely the best thing about this software. I can easily create a slideshow in a couple of minutes with a template video (something that I wouldn't even know how to do outside of Animoto), add licensed music, and tweak it, including the speed at which the images are shown and the order. This whole process used to take me at least 40 minutes and involved different sofware tools. Plus, if I had to correct a small detail of it, I would need to create everything again from scratch, and though I could save my project as I was working on it, I would need to export new versions every single time. Animoto creates videos in different sizes AND uploads them to a custom link at the same time, saving me countless hours of work. Cons Well this is not actually Animoto's fault, but I wish I could use or upload different songs, particularly those that my clients are more familiar with. I understand this is not possible because of copyright issues, but in some countries outside of the US clients do ask for slideshows with different music choices, just for their personal use. However, this only happened a couple of times and the music options that Animotoo offers are plenty, so we were always able to give them something they would like instead. Sometimes, I felt that part of a clip could use some shortening or that I didn't want to add that particular bit, and this is not something that we can edit. Although I was able to choose a different one altogether since Animoto is designed to be quick and easy to use it lacks some customization capabilities that would be nice to have. One of the best options available. A powerful tool but it certainly needs to add more features. Pros It is very user friendly. Almost anyone can create amazing video content with it. The large template library makes it even easier for users. Creating videos takes a very little time and adding effects, transitions and text overlay is relatively very simple. Cons The templates can sometimes be very restrictive. If a user has a proper idea about how the video should be then it is not for him. Cons I love that there are templates to use, but I find them sometimes restricting. I also wish we could control the amount of time in each slide. I have also used Animoto to put together slideshows of my daughters that come out really well. Love the ability to share easily through a multitude of options including social media such as Twitter and Facebook. Pros I remember when Animoto first came out. I was using it in the classroom with students to curate their images for various assignments (book trailers, public service projects, social media campaigns) etc. This was something they enjoyed. There are workarounds to do similar things, like using Google Slides or PowerPoint, or iMovie, but this takes the guesswork out of it. A simple tool to be able to merge images and video into a slide presentations/slideshow and overlay music to it. Comes out very professional looking. Students enjoy sharing these as it requires minimal movie editing experience and is a lot easier than iMovie. If you are using a LMS, I love how you can embed this inside it! Another way for teachers to be creative in how they deliver the content to their students. Cons There aren't a lot of features or customization, but it is pretty straightforward in that you add images, add video, and ick a song. The rest is done by Animoto. There are templates to choose from as well, but would be nice to have a few more features/animations to make it more personal. The experience was terrible, hard to navigate, and I couldn't produce anything useable, so quickly I asked for a refund and was denied, only told what I paid $180 could be applied to a future year. Pros Nothing Cons Scam: They take your money and no refund or cancellation, only apply what you've paid to a future year - will never use again! Switched from [Keynote](https://www.capterra.com/p/246648/Keynote/) I thought that Animoto would be easier, I was wrong, not only was it not easier, but to get greater functionality, I had to select the higher priced option of $180 for pro., which didn't help at all. And I quickly quit the program and asked for a refund, they do not do refunds. They said I could cancel at any time, and assuming that this meant money needed back, I did cancel only to discover that with this company, it meant there would be no refund and the ability to use the software in the future. This was not clear. So during the saddest part of our lives, we reached out for hope of developing a slide video of our son's life, but nothing was produced. February 2, 2023 5.0 Animoto provides us with great services that help us prepare amazing presentations. It also helped us a lot in producing videos for our marketing campaigns without the need to hire specialists. Pros Animoto does not require much experience, as we can create great videos with just a few simple steps. The options for preparing content and editing the video are very easy, and the inclusion of slides within the video to prepare and format presentations, including texts, images and diagrams is very easy, also we can easily add music to the presentation, which I greatly appreciate. In addition, Animoto provides a lot of ready-made templates, which we can handle easily, so that we can produce video and format texts as required. It is also good that the videos that are produced by Animoto can be easily shared and published on social media platforms. January 16, 2018 5.0 Fast and easy way to generate dynamic content from assets submitted by non-professionals. Also a great way to quickly generate Social Media specific video content by professionals as well. Pros While we produce longer form video using editing software such as Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere we still value our Animoto subscription to create something fast and flashy. For seasonal or holiday-based promotions or events, they have some great 'themed' backgrounds. We really get use out of Animoto when we have people share their photos and cell phone videos from events we can't attend and then we are able to quickly generate fun and engage videos that really capture the event. Being able to create 'square' aspect ration videos easily is enormously useful if your primary distribution is on Social Media. Just as great is the ability to go back and re-edit the video in 16x9 quickly and easily for display on a monitor or video wall. Cons Most of the music that Animoto has for its videos get ads placed on them when used on YouTube so we don't use them anymore and instead either upload youtube safe music from youtube or from royalty free music we purchase or own. Animoto has made great strides in creating some of their square and marketing video templates but could use some more holiday/seasonal and general styles as it has been a while since I've seen some new exciting themes. Founder Photography Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "I LOVE this Software" December 10, 2018 5.0 Creating promo videos for my client was a breeze, it was easy to create a simple but neat and attractive video using images, video clips, and some background music. Pros I knew of Animoto but had never used until my client (A photographer in Melbourne) suggested using it to create a promo video with images she had taken during one of her event photography gig. At first I was skeptical and was considering using Lumen 5 for that since I've used it for a while and I'm very comfortable with it. But Wow, Animoto is definitely 100 times better than Lumen 5. The interface is smooth, it's easy to use, it allowed me to upload images and videos to use. It also let me create "Quotes" as opposed to a "text" slide that's simply a text and the background color. I also like how the text element has an option for Title and subtitle, I also love how I can change the font size, spacing etc. Cons Animoto is perfect although I wouldn't say no to the ability to crop an uploaded video, especially when the final exported video has to be within a specific time frame. My client wanted a video no less than one minute but the video she had was over 3 minutes. I had to use Movavi to cut the video before uploading it to Animoto Review Source Nelleke P. Lots of choice in templates and lettertypes, colors, possibilities. Well I say lots but in any case plenty enough for my purpose. We make presentations for small hotels and B & B´s and display them on their webpages, it really makes for an easy but fabulous presentation. It took a while to figure out how it all works, but in the end its really simple. The share functions are super easy and everything seems to work just fine. I even uploaded my own music for the first time, which also works fine. Although there are lots to choose from in the library. Cons Support is a bit difficult, no online chat. I would like it if settings could be stored as favorites, as I forget which settings I like best. There also doesnt seem to be a duplicate button, which would be usefull. Animoto is highly accessible and would be a great video development tool for people with limited video/design experience, or people with limited time. My team uses Animoto to create product/campaign launch videos for clients, as well as promotional videos for our own services. If you have a handful of images or video clips ready to go, you can create a short compelling video in as little as twenty minutes! Cons Customization of video templates is pretty limited (in terms of style, speed, layout, amount of content per slide, fonts, etc.). Templates are still great considering the ease of use and low cost. Sometimes it's challenging to fit a full thought onto a slide due to the limited number of characters Animoto allows in a line of text... but that's probably a good thing to keep videos from becoming text-heavy. What started out as a simple tool to create photo slideshows to help boost sales (I'm a photographer) has turned into a BIG part of my marketing process. Videos are HUGE nowadays, and Animoto allows me to create custom slideshows with licensed (non-cheesy) music, which are easily shared out on clients' social media sites, etc. (Word-of-mouth marketing that actually gets people's attention.) And with their new marketing templates, I can now quickly create how-to videos, informational videos, and other things that are Facebook and Instagram-ad ready! Pros Super easy and quick to create custom photo slideshows and marketing videos, with template dimensions being instantly adjustable to SQUARE format to better fit Instagram. Cons I've been using this software for nearly 10 years (and still love it), but have noticed that the license-free music library has gotten significantly less impressive over the years. The render time is fast, the templates are ok and the interface is probably the best I've ever used. Pros I enjoyed the clean and easy to understand interface. Without it, I would've abanded it a long time ago. The timeline feels snappy. The elements don't get in your way. And each template video is split into sections, which makes it easy to only edit what you need. Cons The templates are probably the weakest part of the tool. While it shows that they put in the effort, the overall result is beneath Canva templates, for example. Some work well, others are way too generic to be used as is. And it would take a long time to change most of it to make it usable. Everything is drag and drop, so adding videos and photos to a project is easy. There are music tracks to choose from, and you can also upload your own. Captions and titles can be easily added. There are quite a few templates to choose from, and I am usually able to find one that matches the theme and mood of the video I'd like to create. Cons I pay for the personal plan so I can download my videos in 720p. It is disappointing sometimes to see the templates that are not available to me because I am using a lower price paid plan. The animoto logo is still attached to the end of every video, even though I am a paid user. Usually that is reserved for the free plans, so it's very clear that animoto sees their personal plan is the no frills plan.
