September 21, 2025 4.0 We have used it for about 15 years and with each release it gets better and better. Although expensive, it is the only program we have found that can handle the complexity of our organization without choking. Pros Flexibility for use with complex dues and membership structures. Powerful Query engine and reporting capabilities. Good customer support and a good network of experts to help through sticky situations. Cons iMIS has a very steep learning curve. Some inconsistencies in interface make it not always user friendly. June 2, 2020 3.0 Most of my experience has been moving clients off of iMIS onto more modern cloud based platforms. If you have it, that is great, but they are still not ready to be considered a cloud based solution as of 2020. Pros iMIS had just about any future you need, and if it doesn't have it, there is a vendor that has built an interface to provide the functionality you need. Cons Configuring and using the product can be a pain. Everything goes through a reseller, creating a layer between the customer and supplier. This added layer increases markup, and also encourages consulting expenses by the retailer. Old model that does not work for the non profit industry. Review Source JW James W. There is a very active user group, and ASI provides excellent online documentation and training resources. Pros We chose iMIS because, unlike some other association management systems we reviewed, it would let us customize the database and business processes to fit our needs. We also found the ability to integrate iMIS with MailChimp and other 3rd party applications very useful. We have been able to consolidate several different databases into a single source of data. iMIS also allows us to track the engagement of our members using criteria that we have established. This allows us to make better business decisons and communication plans. Cons iMIS has a fairly steep learning curve, but there are several consulting services available to assist with training and implementation. In addition, the online documentation for the product is excellent, and there is also a training portal with in-depth classes available. Alternatives considered [Salesforce Service Cloud](https://www.capterra.com/p/136189/Salesforce/) Reason for choosing iMIS Cost, and flexibility of the product to match our business processes. It is easy to manage users and members alike. We can automate many routine tasks such as invoicing and reporting, as well as member joining and renewal processes. We have seen a big reduction in manual effort required of our staff, thus saving us time and resources. All of this allows employees to focus on more strategic tasks. Pros We have seen a drastic reduction of manual tasks. The automated processes allow us to spend time on other work. Also IMIS can integrate with many other products which is also a great time and effort saving for us. The online help and videos are superb and we have now incorporated them into our own new staff training. Cons It can be a little frustrating to have to pay for different modules, on top of the already high licence costs. We recently moved from 2017 to EMS and some functionality is no longer available. System can be tailored to your needs and has very well organized examples and templates to follow. Cons As with any highly customizable software, configuration and procedures can be difficult at times. While administration tasks are not a heavy lift, there are some that need many checkboxes checked to get the job done. Cons Not really any cons, you just need to learn to drive iMIS to work for you, we are in our 3rd year of use and 99% of our daily use is done within our own team with the odd support request for assistance. Reason for choosing iMIS iMIS provided more functionality and with Salesforce it was difficult to nail down how much the project would cost, there was greater visibility on costs with iMIS. We use it for groups as well and can track / communicate with individuals depending on which group they choose to be a part of. Pros Easy to find information, auto-renewal for memberships, can create any number of reports, add notes to a member file. Cons Reading the history of a member file is not always clear. Pros iMIS is build to meet the needs of changing technology. When new technologies come along you don't have to start all over again. There is a large body of third party providers to tie into any additional systems you need and they have an outstanding "independent" user group that is extremely helpful. Cons Learning the reporting system can be time consuming at first but as you get familiar with it that too is a very powerful system that lets you get whatever information out of your system that you need. " December 18, 2019 4.0 I don't think I could ever see us switching from iMIS, the fact that there are so many functional options under one roof make it a powerhouse product. It also provides a seemless experience for our members! Pros I love that there are so many different functionalities of this software. We use it for our membership, for fundraising, for events, for data collection and there is still so much more that we could get out of this software. It's customizable features are really a bonus and I love that I can share customized data with our board directly in their dashboard! Cons I find it a steep learning curve, now that I have worked with the software for a while it's easy but it takes some time. May 16, 2017 5.0 It was a powerful tool but I have found comparable solutions for a lot less expense than iMIS. With a small staff, it is hard to expend the kind of money you'd need for iMIS. Pros Easy to use. Powerful. Did most everything we needed it to do. I was the power user in the office for 10 years. If you know SQL queries, you'll be able to run a lot of custom reports to fit your business needs. After moving to another non-profit, I found that there were less expensive solutions which were comparable or better. No need to spend a lot of money to get what you need for your businesses database and website solutions. Cons Needed lots of customization for our use. At the time, was not a database/web platform. The move from an older version to the current was very easy. Customer Support has been very responsive to our needs. Pros The basic functions are included in the general package, but you can upgrade if needed. With the cloud version, as new changes are made they are included at no extra fee. You can access your data and the product where ever you have access to the internet. Works well with most computers as is not actually on your system. Cons In using the cloud version if your band wide is not fast or if you have problems with your internet connection you don't have access to your data. Review Source RM Reginald M. Pros This is a very tough question for me for several reasons. One is that I have no experience with any other product. Two is that at one point when E-Series failed to live up to expectations we brought in ISGWeb to do many of the functions that I like the most. Three we have not transitioned to rISE yet. Cons The cost, now I do not know how much other software is in relation to what we get for our money but It seems pretty expensive to do anything and the license fees are high. January 16, 2018 4.0 Pros We appreciate that is more robust than our previous system allowing to capture and track additional important data points, as well as keep relationships that we could not keep prior to switching. Although we are not a typical association, we've been able to adapt the system easily for our needs. Cons We find that the documentation available can be slight and it feels sometimes like the user end was not considered when doing upgrades. Lots of bells and whistles and good educational support to learn all those bells and whistles. Cons iMIS has been around for a long time, and as the company aims to make all functions browser-based, many of its old interface (desktop) remain necessary as they have yet to be adapted in a reliable way to browsers. If there is not a way for me to do it myself TS Team assists me. Pros It gives you the output you want most times in reports. If you can't get what you need the TS Team helps you get what you need. Cons The ASI portion of what is written, old archaic, a staple in the design can cause some reporting to look and act obsolete.
