I have been using LibreOffice since 2010, and OpenOffice since 2003. Excellent.

Pros: LibreOffice forked from OpenOffice in 2010 and has since become the premier open source office suite.

It has many pros:
-- open source license and thus is free. Most importantly, it is created by a community of developers who believe good quality software should be available to everyone, not just those who can afford it. Most of the world's population cannot afford a license of MS Word, nor do they have access to the internet. Open source software ensures that disadvantaged populations have better access to good software. Additionally, the open standards used by LibreOffice ensure that user's data will remain accessible and not locked into a proprietary format from which it cannot be extracted.

- standard menu. LibreOffice has smartly chosen to continue using standard menus rather than "ribbon menus" which many people find confusing because they change based on the task being performed. Few studies have proven that ribbon menus offer any productivity advantage whatsoever.

- easy to use. All of the features of LibreOffice are quite easy to use and plenty of third-party documentation and tutorials exist online.

- rapid development. New versions of LibreOffice are released every six months.

- LibreOffice has plugins for use with Zotero, an open source reference manager. This makes it an indepsensibe tool for university students and researchers.

Cons: - because it is under rapid development, the "FRESH" releases of LibreOffice sometimes crash. The "STABLE" version is, well, more stable, but I've still had it crash or freeze on me, although its unusual and no more often than MS Word crashes.

- While LibreOffice can open and create MS Word documents, sometimes the formatting is not exactly the same.

The best office package and free

Pros: I love the excel ( OpenDocument Spreadsheet ), I use it daily with .csv and easily change from one separator to another, change, save and go back to another one. It's the best thing to have in your arsenal, when dealling with thousands of product lines to import/change in your store.

Cons: Sometimes it alters the files ( inserting break lines, or other symbols ), quite frustrating, but if you know what are you doing, it's smooth sailing all day long.

Pros: Spreadsheets, documents, presentations can all be completed using this software. It is free, which is a huge plus. Documents can be saved in nearly any format, including most competitor formats.

Cons: No collaboration features, I have started using online alternatives because I need to share my documents and have others contribute to them.

Fabulous suite of office programs. I've been using this since the early code-base of Starr-Office.

Pros: I like that this is a professional package offered for free. There is a lot of help available online in communities if you're having difficulties with any of the more complex features.

For word-processing, spreadsheets, presentations (which can easily pair with a phone-app remote), and basic databases, this is my #1 choice.

Cons: I find that I work mostly collaboratively in recent years and so I have found myself using GoogleDocs. However, for working with bigger files and datasets, LibreOffice remains my tool of choice.

Overall: I've used this for professional reports, databases of retail inventory, business performance spreadsheets, and posters, all for free.

Pros: The functionality of auto recover files is great, I have not lost information by crash in the computer.
I can work with the necessary functionality for office work especially use spreadsheet and presentations.
The compatibility to save or open files on other platforms until today without problems

Cons: The user interface is very ugly.
It takes a long time to start.
In the presentations, if I edit a photograph and change it to another platform, for example Microsoft, the photos return to their original state, as they were before editing.

Overall: Save money

Pros: Allows you to create documents, spreadsheets, slide presentations, and other things. Free software that can save documents, spreadsheets, etc. in several formats so that it can be read by other similar programs.

Cons: Updating the software can be somewhat of a hassle just due to the fact that the updates sometimes won't install correctly and you have to re-install them.

Overall: I didn't have to spend any money to get the basic functionality of a word processing program and other basic office suit programs. It helped me through school and at work with the documents and other things I had to create.

Pros: It is very easy to use for certain spreadsheet tasks. Especially data entry and lead sheet creation.

Cons: The citation feature in their word processor application is not as robust as other competitors on the market.

Overall: It has become my first choice for data entry because of its ease of use. It makes the task if data entry more seamless.

Libre Office allows me to perform the same tasks as the expensive software. Love the spreadsheet!

Cons: It is not completely functional, and has a hard time reading Word documents, which are commonly used.

Pros: Price!, file size is very small and uses very little RAM, Easy to adapt to if you're use to using other office software

Cons: It can be overwhelming to a newby (anyone who has not used an office software.

Overall: I have been using LibreOffice for about 6 months now, and I have found that I perfer it over Microsoft Office for three main reasons- 1) Price, you're saving a LOT of money. 2) It uses very little space on your system (and next to nothing in RAM usage too). 3) It's so simple to use. If you've used other office software you'll find it easy to adapt to and use.

Recommendations to other buyers: Explore, learn new functions, and expand your horizons.
