You have everything you might need and each software works well enough for you to achieve your main objectives while using them. An added benefit is the huge file support, which is far greater then Microsoft Office's support. Cons However, Libre Office has many issues that Microsoft Office simply does not have. Libre Office's UI is clunky and has very little ease of use. It packs a bunch of features in a cryptic way and you end up not using many of them because they are not so simple to use. There is hardly anything that you can find fault in and it offers almost everything that is offered by the premium options. On top of everything else, it is completely free. It is a truly great software and I recommend it very highly. You might end up never paying for an office suite again. Pros LibreOffice is a full suite of office software including products for editing documents, presentations, spreadsheets, databases and vector graphics that are on par with what other competitors offer. On top of that, it's completely free! Even for commercial use. It's compatible with all microsoft file formats such as .word , .ppt etc. Although this product is free, you will not see advertisements and there is no hidden paywalls. There is a great team of developers behind it which ensures you are constantly updated with the latest features that are on par with premium softwares such as those from Microsoft. The user interface will be not what you are used to if you are switching from Microsoft office, but it's not a deal breaker as you will quickly get used to it. Cons There is no cloud storage available if you relied on cloud syncing capabilities of your previous office suite. But this can be easily solved by manually uploading your documents or setting up something like Dropbox or Google Drive for your computer. There are also less templates compared to Microsoft Office but you have the option to find and manually install them from the internet. I am not a fan of Software As a Service which keeps you paying every month forever or having to buy extremely expensive software. Libreoffice is free though you can and should donate something toward continued development and it is more than enough for most small business use. I use the spreadsheet app the most to track my business expenses and inventory. It does all the calculations and charts I need to stay on top of my business and satisfy my accountant. The document app also gets used a lot for my business correspondence, book writing, notes, etc. Both apps allow me to easily format my input anyway I want to make both functional yet eye pleasing documents. I also like how it handles PDFs. Cons It is not Office so don't expect it to do everything just like it. It doesn't hook into other software, a fancy spreadsheet will look a little different, etc. but it does so much that it is a suitable replacement. It gives you the ability to open and create documents in a ton of formats, and it's open source. I would definitely recommend this for anyone who doesn't want or can't spend on MS Office, and needs an application that can reliably be used while offline. Pros LibreOffice was my daily driver for productivity for several years. It's open-source which gives me a lot of confidence that the code is safe and doesn't come with a bunch of telemetry baked in. There were very few things I had trouble doing in LibreOffice once I figured out where everything is in the interface. Great compatibility with a variety of file formats. It's fantastic that software like this exists. Cons The only real downsides to LibreOffice are the user interface which is somewhat less intuitive if you're used to using MS Office applications. It takes some exploration and patience to find some of the functionality. I've also noticed that LibreOffice tends to take longer to load than Office does. I haven't done any investigation into templates for use in LibreOffice, but I've also found that it's marginally easier to make nicer-looking documents using Office or Google Docs, however I think spending some time customizing document formatting rather than using the out-of-the-box styles would probaby fix this issue. It has been especially helpful when I have needed to open or edit certain Word or Excel documents on a computer at a jobsite that has no extra Microsoft licenses available. Pros \-Obviously the Price -Can open most Microsoft Word and Excel files -Feels more straight forward in navigating functions than newer "ribbon" versions of Office -Uses more widely compatible, non-proprietary document saving format by default, with option to save in Microsoft format if desired For most document related needs, I have found this software to be quite adequate. I like the ability to freely install it across multiple computers, allowing me to keep the same interface and functionality without having to purchase large, typically expensive multi-seat business licenses. Another BIG licensing advantage I have found, is there's no monthly subscription cost in order to keep working on your files, which has become popular among large software companies these days (I miss the old subscription formats that let you keep and use the last version of a software when you stopped paying for the subscription). Cons Due to not being proprietary, and funded by huge companies, LibreOffice does miss some of the cutting edge features of the new MS Office (and others) software. However, unless your primary job for it is extensively in-depth and complex functions, LibreOffice is likely to work well for your needs. LibreOffice does open and save to Microsoft Word and Excel formats, but it is not perfect at doing it all the time, and sometimes does not save or have certain specific functions and features in MS documents. It is understandable, considering the funding behind the MS Office products versus LibreOffice, but it can get in the way sometimes, depending on what you are having to work on. I love that it is open source and free! Pros Libre office is loaded with options but is really easy to use and understand they have lots of tutorials and how to explainer videos. I also love how the suite is available for all platforms as I own several computers with different operating systems, this is really nice because I don't need to learn new software to do the same tasks. It is very customizable to your needs, everything seems to be very lightweight and loads up quick, it doesn't ever freeze up - this is great because you can run this software no problem on a low-end PC. It integrates almost seamlessly with most other Office products, so I never have to worry about file compatibility or anything of the sort. It runs smoothly, and rarely crashes--usually only if I'm asking it to do a lot of work all at once, and even that might be more due to my computer's capabilities than the capability of the software. Cons There are some key features that it seems to be missing, especially when it comes to Calc, and it slows down a lot when making a big ask. It can take some time to boot up, as well, but once it is up and running it works well. It does not demand overall powerful hardware and I would say that it is indeed easier to learn then MS office. To sum it up, its a great piece of open source software- huge community and it has a great functionality! What more is there to want? Pros There is no denying that LibreOffice is a great piece of open source software, it has a wide variety of options and compares well to its biggest competition MS office. For people/businesses that are low income or who cannot afford Microsoft products- LibreOffice is your one stop replacement- it is efficient, kept up to date and has a wide plethora of users to help with any issues- the software itself is also quite lightweight and can be used on older systems with minimal space. Cons It does have less features then MS office, however if you mostly just use MS office for its basic features and do not delve into any complicated specifics, then Libre office will do the job for you. There have been at times some problems with compatibility between MS office and LibreOffice- so if you are used to importing/exporting huge quantities of data, then this may not be for you!
