And I got them. It's really useful to learn what each specific market is doing (content-wise) at any given moment. It's a great way to understand what's working and what's not. What's becoming viral and what vanishes without anyone to even notice it. That's how important a tool like Buzzsumo was. But this is not about Buzzsumo. Because what happens is that imagine Buzzsumo... Or a tool with the potential of Buzzsumo... But at a fraction of its price. To make it clear, I got Social Animal when they launch on Appsumo, meaning that I got a tone of value for a small amount. Saying this, the tool is great. And allows me to be on top of what is being produced in my desired industries. I love how they allow me to pick industries and keywords, making the content they give me back a lot more relevant. If you have a content or advertising role, this is a great tool to help you be on top of your competitors or your client's competitors. Learn what they're doing, and see what's working. Cons As any other software, you always have a bit of a learning curve. Although we're talking about a recent software, they already offer lots of options. Meaning that to get the most from the tool, you'll have to dig in. I'm probably using only 40% of the tool, but those 40% are of incredible value. I always needed such product and I was constantly using trial versions or chepeast tier version of other products. But right now, having access to a full product like Social Animal, I can see how valuable such tools are. I got to searching content very quickly. Pros I can search by keyword and find top ranking articles across social media that have been shared. I can sort and filter those articles to find just the type of content I need for my research. My keywords and searches are saved. So, when I log back in tomorrow, all I have to do is pick back up where I left off. I can also search by influencer. This gives me the ability to find social accounts that I can reach out to to help me amplify my content. Cons I only use Social Animal for two purposes. I have found SA very useful for those two activities and have not found any CONS in those two features that I use. Reason for choosing Social Animal Price. It just doesn't work well. Awario doesn't work the same way, but brings in orders of magnitude more content on the exact same keywords. Pros I use two other services that pull in content based on target keywords, and this is both the most expensive, and the least effective. I can punch my keywords into Google News or Twitter Search and get exponentially more, and better, results. I'm got the lifetime license, so I hope it gets better. Cons What I said above - the whole reason I got this is I thought it would alert me to content with certain keywords getting shared on social media, but it's really very bad at it. Reason for choosing Social Animal It seemed like a good deal. If your algorithm gets better, then it will eventually give me enough value to make that price worth it. So far it hasn't. Cons The UI/UX could use some improvement. the features are there, just sometime difficult to find. Specifically, from the Dashboard, I would prefer to see "Projects" towards the left possibly in a tabular format instead of having to choose from a picklist far to the right. Having used BuzzSumo extensively in the past, and run up against some frustrating limitations or weird UI stuff, I can say that Social Animal does a better job of giving me the information on content I need without getting in my way. Anyone currently using BuzzSumo owes it to themselves to at least give the trial of Social Animal a go. Pros The information provided was presented clearly, I could easily dive into a topic and get an understanding of what content is working and what isn't, and take those insights back to my own content strategy. Putting tangible metrics behind our choices in content helps put my company's executives at ease when they have questions about the efficacy of our efforts on social. Cons I know it's a beta feature at the moment, so I can't say with certainty that it will always be this way, but I didn't find the sentiment filter to be particularly good at showing the right results. Maybe the topics I was searching were too niche, or something else wasn't configured properly in my account. I was excited to see this feature in action but I guess it needs some more time to be fully baked. I never had the chance to try out buzzsumo a solution that Social Animal has been often compared with. However, I'm thrilled that there is a solution that allows me to have similar capabilities at a fraction of the price. Pros Great value for the money. In my role we need to constantly find trending content and Social Animal allows us to get a wholistic view readily. They also make it easy to share these pieces of content directly within the solution itself. They have a trending section, an area that shows historical articles around the topics I care about, influencers, and facebook pages that are trending globally. I found only expensive tools made for ultra-specialized content managers that never fit my needs. When I met Social Animal I was finally able to use a tool that offers basic functionalities (for beginner users like me) but also advanced features for my colleagues who are full-time on content marketing. After some months of usage, I was thinking about using it also for "discovering hype contents" and so I asked to Social animal support. They told me that they already thought about the function and it was ready in a couple of months. The covid-emenrgency made this time a bit longer but they keep the promise! Many other Saas, even way more expensive than Social animal, not always keep their word. Pros The tool works great and it has a very good pricing. The support team is really effective and proactive and always answered my needs overdelivering my requests. Cons If you have to work in some minor languages (like me, Italian), the language recognition filter make some mistakes and the database has a good number of results but it's not huge. The content discovery function need some improvements but it's brand new and overall it offers a very good experience and quality. I found that SA gives me detailed research about high performing content for keywords that I want to find. It has got a great influencer research tool. From it, I am able to check on true data about what influencers' articles are popular and which are being shared widely on the internet. Further, I can see the length of the articles' and title shared. Very useful info! Particularly, I love the InspireMe feature in the software. It animates and pops out keywords that let you see a bird's eye view of other associated keywords and connections. This gave me inspiration and infinite content writing ideas for my blog article content. Hence, I am able to have a solid and affirmed idea about how and what I should write for my content that attracts the right target audience, instead of blindly guessing from just general googling and asking people. For me it has replaced several individual pieces of software and rolled it into one.
