Pros: The dependability and ease of use. The cost isn't bad either!
Toast is light years ahead of the old legacy system we had prior. I'm not sure how we made it this far without it.

Cons: Support. I've have to call back several times when I need an issue fixed. This has happened on several occasions.
The agents are polite but always assume the issue is with a setting, even when it's clear that the problem is a bug.

Overall: Dependability and ease of use. I'm still amazed at how advanced Toast is compared to our older legacy system.

Pros: Keeps us unbelieveably organized and takes away the confusion of tickets and messy handwriting. Love the software.

Cons: Sometimes it takes awhile to put an order in and it took awhile to get used to the system itself. But patience is key.

Pros: I used this as a vendor, and loved the UI's simplicity and ease of use. Everything ran, ran fast, and remarkably never crashed (even on iPads that were...less than stellar).

Cons: The price seems I guess steep, but considering it's a B2B kind of app, it really is in the right range.

Comments: This is one the most painless POS systems I have had the opportunity to work with.

Pros: Easy to set up, easy to use, the back side of the system makes sense Highly capable, meets or beats standard operating requirements for most restaurants Great support staff

Cons: Some features still in development. The worst calls with customer support end with my trouble being issued as a feature request. The QuickBooks integration functions through a third party and have to pay Toast extra to send data while paying third party to handle data.

Comments: Go Toast!

Pros: Customer support is the best in the business! Easy to manage inventory and counts for everything. There is always accountability.

This POS functionality is not the best. They will sell you what you want to hear but not deliver.

Pros: Not much, the POS does track customer info well but it is a long process to ring in orders and we can not mix cashing out at the register at lunch and the table at dinner. I told them this was important and the issue is just being ignored by toast. They promised food pictures could be loaded to tablets to display for customers, it cant do that. Our register after installing didnt balance out at the end of day, for 3 mo tbs thier answer was someone was stealing. I fired my manager and the drawer still wasnt balancing. They sent out a trainer and found out our system was set up on multiple wifis. This was three months of repeated check numbers on the same shift and several other operational problems. Toast only cares about collecting thier cash. I would recommend looking at other POS systems.

Cons: 1. Ringing in orders can be lengthy
2. We cant cash out at the register for lunch and table sideat dinner
3. You cant print from POS directly
4. You cant take pictures of food or drinks to show guests.

Very good program. I use it on the daily and I love it. It does everything I need it to do.

Pros: Multi-screen use, Cloud-syncing, and cataloging of receipts are some of my favorite features. It's very user friendly. I can do all of the tasks I need to do from one device.

Cons: I think that the syncing between screens can be extremely lethargic. Also, I feel that the performance really depends on the day. Some days we have to reboot and restart the entire system. Other days, we get it from the get-go. In addition to including register information, I think it would be better to fully include a report to the owner when we close the registers. We have an external app that he made to count all of the coins and spare bills so we can report them to him. Also, the receipts for daily amounts earned are entered into this app and sent to him. I think it would be better and easier if it was integrated into Toast

Pros: Toast is a great point of sale. It's easy to use interface mixed with helpful team make using this point of sale a breeze.

Cons: The only con I have is that it is on an android tablet and not on a apple tablet. Would be great to have a iPhone app as well.

Comments: They grew too fast and lost sight of what they were doing. They have lost control and customers are suffering. We have had the system for 1 year and are in the process of purchasing a new system.

Pros: There are not many pros to this system. Appears to be easy when watching the demos however the reality is that if you do anything custom in your restaurant this is not the program for you.

Cons: The upfront cost for hardware is expensive compared to other systems. They will sell you on a low monthly charge however if you want to use all of the features that they will sell you on you will pay dearly. Just a simple integration with a scheduling program will add an additional monthly charge. They will tell you that their credit card processor is competitive however do your homework - you will find out they are way overcharging for what most processors charge restaurants. Tech support is almost non existent. They have started using third party re-sellers which has confused the tech support even more. The third party re-seller that we have had to use (after being sold on the product by Toast direct) have made our lives miserable with the "that's a toast problem" or "we will get back to you when we get an answer from Toast support". If you have to go thru a third party do not buy this system, you will no longer be able to contact toast directly for help.

Comments: Tech support is hard to reach. You must use their credit card processors. Fought a chargeback, provided a signed receipt and still lost the case because Toast doesn't have an EMV chip reader and the card had a chip. Apparently and according to Toast reps anyone is able to get their money back if they have an EMV chip card. I know this doesn't make sense but it's true.

Pros: Toast is easy to use for the most part. I don't have a problem with the software it's quick and functional.

Cons: Inadequate credit card processors. Not emv capable. Susceptible to chargebacks even with signed slips. Do not honor their warranties of their hardware. Had to buy new terminals after a year and a half.

Comments: If you are a bar, you will loose money because of the inefficiency of the product. Spend the extra cash for Aloha or Micros.

Pros: It¿s cheap. Other than that I¿m just writing words to reach the 100 character minimum. This seems like a tech start up run by 25 people who saw a market opportunity...

Cons: Nothing about this product is streamlined for high volume bar use, I.e: extra prompts, two extra steps for every drink upcharge, sliding tablet screens left and right, no simple repeat buttons and so on. Tech support for the west coast is questionable at best.

Pros: The hardware and quick editing make this an efficient method for restaurant server and mod use. The screens are easy to edit as well.

Cons: The customer support is TERRIBLE. We were even given wrong information from the trainer before we started using the software. We are often on hold for extended periods with no response and the majority of our help tickets go unanswered. All of our credit card machines have malfunctioned in the three months that we have had the program. The tablets are also not spill proof and have glass screens making it incredibly restaurant unfriendly. The reporting is thorough but has consistent flaws and bugs. Editing checks in difficult and many basic management tools require multiple steps.

Pros: The ease of use. All of my managers and employees always say how easy the system is to use after training. The customers love the rewards and being able to access everything on the tablet right at the counter.

Cons: There are certain limitations that are irritating. They are always minor, but you inevitably find yourself saying "I wish you could do that this way instead of that way."

Comments: Our local Toast provider is excellent to deal with.

Pros: Very Powerful software, bundled with Credit Card processing makes it a turnkey option. As a somewhat non-involved owner, I do not use the System except for the back office functions which are excellent. Much more powerful than I am familiar with. I work within the system once a week and each week I get a bit more familiar with it and I have began to open up new features to provide more analysis of metrics. Great Stuff

Cons: It does have a higher upfront cost than many other options, and substantial costs that I believe are value added benefits, be sure you do your homework and are convinced you need the features, if so than it not as much of a con.

Comments: Do not ever, ever, ever buy Toast POS

Cons: It takes 18 steps to do anything. On a busy Saturday night, spending a lot of time at the computer is the last thing you should be doing. Good luck getting anything done quick on this pos. Closing your drawer at the end of the night is a miserable experience as well. The sales reps make it look easy because that's what they're paid to do. Don't be fooled.

Pros: I like that you can access all information from virtually anywhere there is internet access - you don't need to be on a POS tablet/station.

Cons: There are some clunky aspects - the first that comes to mind is that you are unable to access archived users and re-activate them yourself. You have to email or call support in order to access their records. In an industry where the workforce is ever changing - this doesn't really make sense.

Pros: Toast seems to be the most put-together of the next wave restaurant POS. They offer a few styles of terminals for greater flexibility in the unique spaces that are restaurants. Toast also will take feature-requests, something the older generation of products seems to have stopped doing.

Cons: The ability to pull up custom reports and analyses are their weakest feature. Toast can also have very occasional connectivity issues which is scary in a restaurant setting.

Overall: Toast is a full-service POS that works for our three very different restaurant concepts, including a high volume bar, a deli counter and market, and a fine dining, multi-course dining establishment.

Pros: Ease of use is the biggest pro for Toast. From initial training through menu editing and reporting, everything is very intuitive and easy to understand. I can hand a new server a tablet and they can input an order without any help, right from day 1.

Cons: Right now it is not pizza based. It works, and works well in our restaurant, but things like changing the size of a pizza are not possible right now. I hear it is in the works though.

Overall: It increased efficiency and accuracy in every part of our restaurant. The reporting is incredibly detailed, yet easy to navigate.

Pros: We've had Toast for 2 months, and the comparisons from our old system to this system are just night and day! The ease of menu changes, contacting support, using the system on my laptop while I'm home on a day off-I'm a much happier manager. The staff all agrees that it's much more intuitive, and when there is a problem (wrong tab closed out, remove an item from the bill) it's so much quicker to solve.

Cons: I love that it's so much more customizable than our last POS system, but (sometimes) that necessitates there being more clicks per order. The money tray for the registers are smaller than we're used to. I wish there could be a bit more room in each money slot.

Comments: If you do no have many complex operation, this is a great system.

Pros: Easy to use, accurate reports and a good system to manage payroll information. The team is always looking to update the system to our needs

Cons: When it is necessary to adapt somehow the system is very open to any user with adm rights, so create standard items is not always easy.

Pros: Easy to use and very simple and clear layout for each screen. And it is very easy to modify new changes. And the website is reliable to give most current updates in sale and labor and other statistics.

Cons: I wish that an apple app will be available soon to make it easier for management staffs to check on immediate statistic. Also the customer service takes forever to reach every time we call. And the customer service representatives respond in emails , most of the time they don't really know what the real answers they are providing but some generic email templates. And they will ask you to call them if you have any questions. So yes, you are back to square one.

Pretty solid overall.

Comments: So far after a solid month of using this in a busy restaurant we have come to realize that Toast has just entered their awkward teenage stage--willing to try everything but everything just falls short.

Pros: Price point allows for multiple terminals, easy to edit closed checks, easy to track closed checks (and email them), good depth of modifications.

Cons: Terrible fire courses, random items are sent to the bottom of tickets, tips at close out appear in three different sections, no fast and easy BIN system, no direct integration with Binwise or Avero, no direct integration with RESERVE, cannot see 'fire' times, no way of assigning seats on a fast bar screen...

Pros: Toast is a great POS for our restaurant. I have found it to be much more easy to use than our previous system. It's great that we can make changes to our menu from outside computers and have access to the entire system from out of the restaurant. It's great that I can update my menu and make adds and changes without being at work.

Cons: I find that at times, the system can lag and can occasionally shut itself down. This causes trouble when it happens in the middle of a guest order. Other than that, the system is great.

Pros: It's all in one.

Cons: When something goes wrong with the system and I lose connection (which practically happens in every software, I guess).

Overall: I love my Toast POS because it's easy to navigate and I like it that I get the reports I needed in a flash. I have a very busy schedule that I must admit I don't know that "ins" and "outs" of the POS system but I few click here and there I'm able to get the information I needed when I needed them. I'll probably be more happy if I'm able to find time to just explore what else are there to find that this system can do for me. I usually enroll in the webinars offered to members but at times, I even don't get to finish the webinar because I have to attend to calls, customers, and vendors when they are in my place of work. But I try anyways. Thanks for a great system.

Pros: Back office is easy to use.

Cons: The cash management is so confusing we can never get it correct. They think they are making it better but they don't and the training is very lacking in that area.

Overall: The support is lacking. You always get a tech to speak tech and when they look at your system they find other problems to fix and never help fix the one you need help with. You pay a monthly fee but they charge you for the support anyhow. The Sales staff can not work the system so don't bother asking them for minor help.

Recommendations to other buyers: Being a cloud system is great to calculate number and make changes.

Comments: A couple of years ago Costa Vida completed an extensive search for a POS system that would replace our outdated Micros 3700 platform. After reviewing more than a dozen options, we selected Toast and launched our first location with them in July of 2015. Immediately we saw improvements in speed and processing. Our cashiers learned the system quickly, and were able to fly around the screens inputting orders. The customer support during the past couple of years has been outstanding.

Pros: It is quick to implement, quick for our people to learn, and has proven to be very reliable.

Comments: With now being in business a full year now, I have and I still am learning pro and cons of doing business. I have worked in restaurants but I have never been on the manager/owner side and it's not as easy as you think it is. When running your own business for the most part you are on your own! I sat down with a computer tech to figure out the best POS system for my business. There are SO many out there and being unfamiliar with them a lot of research was done! I attended the Gordon Food Show a month before we opened and I got to see first hand how Toast worked. I was very impressed with the system and how easy it looked to operate (remember I've never been on this side of the business) and we had decided to work 100% with Gordon Food Service because of their support and looking at our best interest for starting our business. Now a year later, I could't imagine being with another POS system so no regrets here on choosing Toast for our POS!

Pros: Customer Support! - I rate them 100 on this!! Any questions I have big or small, they are just a phone call away! If my call isn't answered right away or I get busy, they have the feature to leave your number and they will call you back ASAP. Customer Service - Being a tech and answering some of the crazy questions (I'm one who probably has the most) they are always patient, friendly and very professional when answering questions.

Cons: Credit Card Processing Fees - With other Processing companies out there some are cheaper but overall with Toast, they win. It's the hidden fees you have to watch. Toast fees appear to be higher but what you see is what you get where with the other guys you have to read the fine print.

Pros: Easy to use, reliable, good value.

Cons: There are still a few features that have not matured yet. A more robust ideal food cost tool that could integrate with more food vendors would be very valuable.

Overall: For over a year our organization searched for the right POS solution for us that would solve issues that our current provider could not. We had 65 locations in our brand and it seemed like they were 65 islands when it came to our POS system. There were many versions of our data base, and we were hampered by issues such as the end of life for our operating system.

Toast was one of many POS providers we evaluated, including all of the top names in the industry. Some of the most important considerations that influenced our decision included the system being cloud-based, easy to use, and easy to integrate with other technology. We installed the Toast POS solution for the first time in July of 2015, and have been converting locations since then. We currently have over 60 locations using Toast, and anticipate the rest of the locations to convert this year.

Highly Recommend!

Comments: We've had Toast for over a year and could not be happier. We never planned on switching from our old POS but after seeing a presentation of Toast we were blown away by the possibilities. Toast has increased our efficiency immensely which shows in our sales. We recently had over 10,000 people for our annual St. Patrick's Day Street Event. We've always been please at how easily it handles our volume, but wow, it ran smoothly and effortlessly all day long! We had 17 handhelds running and 5 terminals! We cannot say enough good things about Toast! We learn new things every day that increase our productivity!

Pros: Hand-helds very easy to use and speed up ordering

Pros: I really like the ease of use behind the software. There is still opportunities to expand the functionality, but overall it is great. They are constantly pushing updates, we have had 4 since we started using the system.

We used to have to pay 2 separate companies for POS and one for online ordering.. with Toast it's ALL IN ONE (and cheaper than both of the old companies). Pros: user- friendly, simple, customizable, intuitive, fast.

Cons: Android's operating system took some getting used to, but once you get the hang of it then it's a cakewalk.

Overall: Toast can be whatever you want out of a POS system- you can customize all settings to fit your needs or if you want something you don't have to be too involved in and you want to keep it simple, Toast can do that too. They are always introducing new features and ways to make your life easier- and if you think of something they haven't added yet, you can request it and it will be added if other users and restaurants like the idea too. Hardware and software are integrated well and easy to use, and if there's ever a problem then 24/7 support (not robots, real Toast employees!) is only a phone call or email away.

Recommendations to other buyers: The automatic updates are wonderful as you never end up with outdated software shortly after buying it. Just like updating an app on your phone, it's super easy and is usually full of new features to check out and use to make your life easier.

Overall: Toast is a modern foward thinking pos system. The toast team has been with me every step from the very beginning. There was and is lots of training available innitially and continually. The software it self is very userfriendly.

Comments: When I took over as manager of the restaurant we had a PoS system called Breadcrumb, and it was absolutely awful. Since bringing Toast in, my life has been so much easier! It's so user friendly and on the management side, its a dream. I highly recommend this system for anyone looking to switch

Pros: its versatility and amount of tech features are out of this world.

Cons: we didn't find out about it sooner!

Overall: I must say that if there is something out there that is needed in the hospitality business that Toast doesn't offer, than I don't even want to know about it. We have been delighted every step of the way of our Toast journey. The sales staff, project manager, menu engineer, site engineer, support staff have all greatly exceeded my expectations. Toast is a must have system!

Recommendations to other buyers: if you have seen the demonstration, and worked out a quote with your sales representative, I advise you to sign it!

Pros: Easy to add, change or delete items. Great for getting real time sales reports as well as items sold in real time. Always updating as more users offer feedback.

Cons: Sometimes a little slow.

Overall: My restaurant had a Micros POS system for over 12 years. When we expanded and renovated, we had to expand our system. Micros was too expensive and we began to look for alternatives. We chose Toast after looking at many options and it was a great choice. Restaurant specific so they understand what restaurants need. Very intuitive and with all information in the cloud, easy to change items, prices anytime and get real time reports. Great support, too. Highly recommended.

Pros: Ease of use, quick editing.

Cons: When the network goes down between tablets.

Overall: We use this software in A fast-paced restaurant environment. It is great to be able to take the tablets to the tables and get orders on the go no more running back-and-forth no more paper . It is easy to program and reprogram on the go with the quick edit feature. Every restaurant should have the ability to provide the high service standard thus pos provides.

Recommendations to other buyers: Software does not track individual sales, just by who started which tab.

Pros: Easy of use and great Tech support.

Cons: Rewards program to recognize phone numbers and names when assigning support.
Tech support need to assign ticket numbers so it easy for you to talk to the same Tech person.

Overall: Great system that the company is constantly improving. Make keeping track of business and easy. This system has a reporting system that let's you see from anywhere how business is performing. The online menu is a feature all customers will love with a layout that is mobile friendly. The rewards program needs a little work yet with how points cannot be assigned, but is worth the investment. Overall a great system to have.

Recommendations to other buyers: Keep improving your a great company with a good product.

Comments: Our diner uses the Toast POS, while it has some connectivity issues every time it updates it's software, it's generally a very reliable system. Usually I'm the one making the mistakes of course, but it's easy to edit a ticket and map the dining area (even if you move tables around).

Pros: Easy to use screens, I know my manager likes the sales graphs (he finds them very helpful for expecting rushes, etc.)

Cons: Sometimes it freezes but the tickets are all saved when you repoen the app

Pros: Ease of back end work making menus...reporting etc .

Cons: Not many cons that I can think of...have to reset register tablet fairly often due to unresponsive touch screen.

Overall: Fantastic customer service. Easy to learn if you have prior computer and POS experience. Reliable and efficient

Recommendations to other buyers: More beginning training...I was able to understand the system fairly quickly but I have an IT background. I know of another business who implemented toast and were very frustrated with the lack of training as far as making the menu. My advice would be to not focus so much on attempting to make the "starter menu" for the client but rather use the time to show them how to make their own menu from scratch. There are different little quirks about how every restaurant prices their menu, and while toast does extremely well in allowing for those, where they are lacking is making the customer comfortable in making those changes.

Pros: Your able to do anything you really want. With 5 stores I love the fact that when I make a change on one restaurant it make the exact same change on the other 4. Offline Mode is huge considering what we had before. 24/7 Technical Support is nice although at times they just tell you they do not know the answer and will call you back but 9/10 they never do call back.

Cons: Technical Support is so-so. Like I said, sometimes they don;t know the answer to a question and will tell you theyll call back but do not. Some features I like are not available yet but they are constantly doing updates so Im sure thatll change.

Overall: Toast has been a great overall experience thus far for my 5 restaurants. The functionality is amazing as well as the back end . All of employees hands down prefer this software over what we use to have. Offline Mode is amazing!! No more phone calls because the internet went down

Recommendations to other buyers: Make sure to train your staff right after you sign the contract. Hold training meetings. Print out all of their useful tutorials.

Pros: Toasts Pricing is reasonable, less than other POS systems I looked at. Support is fantastic, and ease of use and functionality is solid

Pros: I can not say anything positive about this software or company to date . Still waiting.

Cons: Horrible training incident . Their staff member walked out in the middle of our 'go live'. No apologies from the compan . A lit of excuses on behalf of the employee by the company. He was overwhelmed, etc..., etc... My staff and I trained ourselves.

Recommendations to other buyers: Don't expect much. We were told during the sales pitch it could handle our pricing strategy. Once installed, it can't. Approximately 6 months out (I do t believe this timeline) and we were told, "for what you're paying you're expecting a lot. Engineers are expensive".
