CTO Internet Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "BEWARE - no usable support until $350/mo tier" November 22, 2019 4.0 I never needed to send more than a few thousand emails so I stayed on 's free tier. However, the IP mailgun assigned me became blacklisted (probably from another sender's abuse) and I became unable to send mail. Even after upgrading to the $79 a month plan (compare to SendGrid $15 a month) there was no immediate help - apparently that is $350 a month. I am 24 hours into not being able to send mail, and will definitely be switching to another service. Pros It usually sends mail. API is straightforward. Cons If gets an IP blacklisted - from other senders - you could end up in trouble. Since they do not answer tickets for 48 hours you might not be able to send mail for 48 hours . Big problem. Pros I found when looking for a better transactional solution for a client's WordPress site, and it wasn't long before I was finding new ways to incorporate it into other email flows, such as ownCloud. Hands down, my favorite feature is the ability to house all of my clients under one interface, without sacrificing granular control or reporting. The ease of configuring SPF and DKIM is fantastic, and their support team and online documentation have both been a pleasure to work with. Cons More expensive than other alternatives, and shared IPs can kill your delivery to certain things as others ruin the IP for you - strongly recommended to get your own and build your reputation. Although we have not needed to use the maximum volume of emails sent, this software has the ability to handle a high-volume amount of emails which is always a plus. Cons The interface could have been better. For example, searching for specific users to check their email status was not as easy to use as MailChimp. Reason for choosing Mailgun There was not a specific reason we chose . A colleague recommended the software to us so we decided to give it a try to see if it meets our needs. It is so easy to use and works flawlessly with your WordPress site set up and forms. Pros In my previous work as Director of Operations of a medical software company, I worked with the development team to implement and utilize the software. A lot of the technical side of things was over my head, but the support team was top notch and integral to us executing on a successful deployment of automated emails at a scale far greater than anything we had tackled before. Cons Most of my gripes are simply due to lack of understanding - a lot of the software was quite technical in nature and over my head. Pros is the simplest & most stress-free of the transactional eMail services I've encountered so far. It's integration that ships per default in Laravel, a PHP framework for creating rich webapps, makes the setup & usage of Mailgun especially easy and painless. The Mailgun API is simple and well documented, their service "just works", the support is always there when you need them and they have a whole slew of community packages that enable you to do more with their API without writing a ton of sourcecode yourself. I don't think there's anymore I could ask for in an eMail provider. Cons is a bit on the pricey site compared to AWS and other SMTP based options on the market. Review Source RG Rosela G. Pros My team tried out for some of some experiments around transactional emails, and the 10K free tier limit was pretty generous and allowed us to satisfy that need. Mailgun was easy to set up... just a few lines of code to integrate, like Stripe for email. Email delivery rates were high too. Cons We didn't end up using beyond the experiment as pricing for beyond the free tier was steeper, and all HTML emails had to be hardcoded which made things not scalable beyond our immediate eng/product dev team (i.e. if marketing wants a new email, that'd take engineering resources... and eng resources are limited!). Pros \- easy to install and set up - great reliability - nice dashboard where you can check the details of every sent email - large free email volume plan! Cons Would be nice if it offered pre-designed email templates (created on their website) with CSS etc. which you could then call via the API with some custom values.
