### "The only thing I used to publish my work in University"

September 9, 2022

5.0

I was a computer science student and I've used this to publish all my work, also to make a portfolio of my coding work too. It's a great tool to use and honestly? I should be using it more.

Pros

It's a bit hard to start up but once you get going and once you get used to it there is no better feeling than publishing your work on Git lab...we've all been there!

Cons

As I said above, it's a bit hard to get started, particularly if you're learning by yourself. However the instant relief you feel once you've done it, this feeling overrides it.

August 15, 2018

5.0

Gitlab has helped me to develop and control the change in the codes of projects where I have participated, in addition to being able to do it privately without having to make a payment for it.

Pros

1\. You can have an unlimited number of private repositories 2. It has two versions GitLab SAAS that is suitable for businesses and GitLab Community Edition, an individual solution for users. 3. It is independent of the operating system 4. Error tracking and web-based code editing 5. Supports the import of Git

Cons

1\. Relatively slow interface 2. Frequent technical problems with repositories. 3. If you use GitLab SAAS, you must pay for each private repository

### "Gitlab a cheap and powerfull tool"

November 11, 2021

4.0

Gitlab is a powerful tool that will allow you to manage the code of a development and integrate its services with third-party applications. Its cost makes it very attractive, which is why it is a good alternative for medium and small applications.

Pros

Its ability to integrate with other third party applications. This allows a work ecosystem to be generated dynamically and easily.

Cons

In order to use it and exploit its maximum utility, it is required to know each of the characteristics. For this reason, it is of use for intermediate users who know about source code tools.

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing GitLab

Because of the additional and dedicated features that Gitlab offers to integrate applications and create a working ecosystem.

### "DevOps Platform Review Gitlab"

December 7, 2021

4.0

GitLab is very appropriate for both limited scope undertakings and huge scope projects. My closely-held conviction is GitLab's evaluating structure is entirely sensible. Its complementary plan offers a ton of good highlights. GitLab UI is more appealing than its rivals, by and by, I feel it's simpler to utilize GitLab than its rivals like GitHub.

Pros

Setting up CI/CD is easy and CI/CD functions admirably in GitLab. UI is exceptionally natural and basic. Git work processes, pull demands and survey. Correction control. In-application altering of task source.

Cons

Diminish the code. Offer some assistance free. Altering code straightforwardly from GitLab site in program isn't permitted at present. Code Search from program can have greater usefulness.

Reason for choosing GitLab

I choose GitLab additionally gives free private store. GitHub permits clients to have free private store yet with limit of three colleagues. GitLab gives the element of route into the repository. GitHub permits client to explore ease of use.

### "Developers friendly"

March 1, 2021

5.0

I imported around 30 repositories in a few steps so simple and easy. I really love it, I'd been use Github and Bitbucket in the past, and GitLab is much better.

Pros

Free tier is enough to start a great project or a startup, Web UI and CI are a essential part of the daily job.

Cons

I think the grant access to new team members computer could be a pain if you have too many repositories

### "Complete DevOps platform with batteries included "

December 7, 2022

5.0

Pros

Gitlab helps implement DevOps by including project management, source code management and code security in one platform. Shift-left security is included in the platform for code quality, code security, infrastructure as code scanning, SAST and DAST (depending on the license) which simplifies the implementation of a DevOps platform

Cons

Although I believe the price is fair, specially for startups looking to implement DevOps from the start, there are other options that can be implemented to achieve same results.

### "Complete solution for source repository and CICD pipeline"

December 19, 2019

5.0

We use Gitlab for both code repository and CICD pipeline in our project which written in Java, we create the master branch for production, dev main branch for lastest code and create a feature branch for every story. Our pipeline will run corresponded stage when have a new commit to feature branch or master branch.

Pros

Gitlab provides many useful features for source management from branch, tag, comparing branch, merge request. Merge quest workflow allow review, comment, conflict resolve or attachment is excellent of team collaboration. Gitlab CICD pipeline which is easy to create with friendly YML file and clear stage help to ensure code quality of every commit and it is easy to integrate with other DevOps tool like Sonar, Maven, Ant... to have full CICD lifecycle from compile, testing, package...

Cons

The UI performance of Gitlab is quite slow, it takes time to reflect actual pipeline progress in UI. The community is quite small so we hard to find solution for specifying issue on the internet.

### "A bliss for developers for source code management"

July 22, 2022

5.0

Pros

Efficient tool in an organisation to manage multiple projects. Code maintenance is much easier. Helps to create various branches in the repository to maintain source code effortlessly

Cons

When comparing two files, git shows the differences even with spaces which is a time consuming process for the developers to rectify the original change when it comes to large lines of code. Encoding in files must also be taken care.

### "GitLab, easiest way to get started with a whole package for your org"

April 3, 2025

5.0

Its a more rounded alternative to github + others. Providing both more and an easy transition, with none of the trade offs.

Pros

Ease of use, it's turned into a product that you can try so easily via docker, and transition to either a self hosted solution, or hosting through a number of cloud providers

Cons

Nothing stands out as being a big negative to me. It provides everything I need. If anything maybe more options for integration with other outside platforms.

### "Absolutely great experience, almost every thing you need in one interface."

February 8, 2018

5.0

This software helped me to manage the team of developers and offered a single interface for many actions.

Pros

A great UI, single interface for Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery and Continuous Deployment, Easy to use API and well documented. Deployments are great and easy to roll back. Multi environment deployments. Short release cycle and upgrading is super easy I have been using it since version 7 and never had problems while upgrading.

Cons

Did not manage to use monitoring not well documented, not many bad things about this software. Cannot audit user activity in community version.

### "The Ultimate Collaboration Tool for Developers"

March 27, 2023

5.0

Pros

The best thing about GitLab is its all-in-one platform that offers a complete DevOps solution, allowing developers to manage their entire software development lifecycle from planning, source code management, continuous integration, and deployment, all the way to monitoring and security. This seamless integration saves time and increases productivity, making it easier for developers to collaborate and focus on writing great code.

Cons

GitLab's user interface can be overwhelming at first, especially for beginners who may find it difficult to navigate the different features and functionalities. However, GitLab provides extensive documentation and support to help users get started and make the most out of the platform. Additionally, the complexity of the platform is a testament to the many powerful features it offers, making it an essential tool for any development team.

### "Great potential, but with unexpected behaviors sometime"

March 27, 2019

4.0

They have an awesome and very open development team. They are really growing their company in all aspects. They look a little bit immature in some aspects, but I think they will become a very big name in the software development space.

Pros

The Gitlab team tries to offer a complete solution for a software development team. They are really nailing it in many aspects. I really like the DevOps features.

Cons

As they are constantly building features and making the system growth, things may change suddenly. Or maybe a feature that belongs to a plan, change to a more costly plan and you end up without being able to use that feature. Another thing is that the payment options are restrictive. As a company, you have to pay for the complete team. Therefore, you can't have just part of your team in one plan and another part in a cheaper part or pay monthly. You have to make the complete money investment for your complete team at once.

I’ve been using GitLab for quite a few time, but it’s been really useful, all this time, the integration of AI has been helping me a lot, the authentication system adds a lot more of security.

Pros

The way you can easily work with your coworkers, how you can organize your projects, it has AI integration, supports hundreds of plugins and more.

Cons

It’s a little bit expensive but the free trial does the necessary function.

GitLab has many great features that help programmers be more organized by keeping track of their code. I recommend it.

Pros

As a web developer, I think that GitLab is a powerful platform to share code source versions with team members, also it provides continuous integration and deployment so that everyone can track changes easily.

Cons

Personally, I didn't face any problem using GitLab, it is a great tool for developers, but I think that the user interface needs some improvement to be more attractive and easy to use.

### "GitLab is way underrated"

July 16, 2019

Life changing. Really. Like, it makes my life easier by giving my insight and control. Dump multiple tools, and try GitLab.

Pros

I can't understand why everyone is not using GitLab, it is incredible. The feature set is mindblowing, and used correctly, it really is a full-cycle product!

Cons

Some things can feel developer orientated, so onboarding designers can be tricky.

### "Great repo manager"

July 17, 2019

5.0

Gitlab is a great repo manager for teams in need of private repositories, continuous development, and affordable prices.

Pros

I use Gitlab free edition for several projects, one of the greatest features about Gitlab is that is fully open-source, so you can also install and manage your own instance of it. Gitlab has built-in issue tracking: boards & milestones on a neat and easy to use dashboard, Continuous Integration, and Deployment. You can create private (this is why I don't use their major competitor), internal or public repos. The integrated Web IDE allows you to edit files and make reviews online. Gitlab also has a built-in Wiki feature and while is not truly advanced is something that most of their competitors lack.

Cons

I haven't found really big issues with Gitlab. Sometimes they experience downtime and they update their UI and features way too often, taking some time to adapt to the changes. Could be great if they could host static pages right in their servers, as their main competitor does. SSL can be an issue sometimes and they don't have a desktop repo manager yet.

### "Good VCS with excellent CI capabilities built-in"

July 25, 2022

4.0

We're using GitLab for hosting our Git repos and managing access control. The main reason to use GitLab compared to a bare-bone Git server is however the CI capabilities (which we're currently replacing Jenkins with).

Pros

Setting up CI workflows is a lot easier than with Jenkins. It being open source is definitely a pro.

Cons

Searching and filtering isn't great. I find the merge requests quite hard to work with (especially in more complex cases with multiple people, comments and changes).

### "My favorite Git platform"

December 5, 2019

5.0

It's the beating Git Heart of most of the web applications we create,

Pros

Out of the box, Gitlab offers so much features and functionality that it's a real pleasure to use. We use Issues a lot and lately also the Wiki functionality. Fantastic tool!

Cons

When we started using it in 2017 they sometimes had performance issues, but lately most of the time it has a great uptime and performance.
