We were able to reduce the time required from technical team in supporting since most admin can be handles by the functional group. All three have performed very well. Pros Vertex performs well and is reliable for most of the transactions we use. Cons Customer support can be slow and solutions are not always satisfactory. I can mostly rely on what is on the return I print out from Vertex. Pros I have used Vertex for 10+ years. Whenever I have an issue all I have to do is call and customer service is always there to help fix my issue. The representatives are always kind and helpful. They follow through to make sure I am happy with the product and my issues are resolved. Cons Sometimes the critical changes come out after I finish filing my returns resulting in a possible problem with the return. Not so happy when that happens. Review Source DK Doug K. " January 25, 2018 4.0 I know that the tax calculations that are being made are accurate and the customizations for our company have been minimal. There customizations are based on specific tax audits/decisions that are specific to our products and how we do business. Pros The software is fairly easy to work. Most importantly, customer support is there to help you out. They understand that not every business is run the same and they take the time to work with you so you can accomplish the desired results when you have exceptions. They also respond very timely when issues are raised. Cons Is the software perfect in every aspect, no. But is any service exactly what you need out of the box. I can not say enough about how attentive the support group is to help you understand the software and assist you when an issue does arise. February 28, 2018 5.0 Pros I like the ability to run reports and see all of my data so I can manage it myself, in addition to taking advantage of the reporting functionality. I also like the transaction tester which provides instant sales tax quotes. The customer service people are also exceptionally friendly and the Exchange provides a great opportunity to network with them and fellow colleagues. Pros The software makes it easy to track exemption certificates, and ensure the rates are being applied correctly. I also like the ability to map the taxability of our products Cons In some states, bundled items are taxed based on the contents of the bundle. For example, 2 items combined, one is taxable, the other is not. But when you bundle, only the taxable item should be taxed. Pros Simple to use; we upload our activity and returns are created quickly and accurately. It appears to be perfectly suited for a small company who processes invoices through the system as they occur. Cons Searching capability is limited within the products and exempt customer lists. Once you have entered a product or customer as exempt it is very difficult to undo it for that period. The reporting can be difficult to understand as well. Review Source JT Jim T. Monthly updates are timely and easy to apply. Cons Dealing with Vertex Support. Sometimes it can take forever to get a response. Support team has two separate groups, one for O series itself and one for the 'connector'. Connector team also acts as Consultants, so it seems consulting gigs get priority over support needs. February 28, 2018 5.0 Pros It is very flexible and I can generate many different types of reports with it. It keeps up with all of the law and rate changes so I don't have to, yet still offers me the ability to make changes to the rules if necessary. It keeps track of all the exemption certificates we receive. It is reliable, I haven't had many issues in the last 7 years of using it. Cons The reports do have a limit to their use. I often have to use multiple reports to get all the numbers I need, instead of being able to access them in one report. Review Source pB preston B. Nice to have a software that can tax in different states as every state tax rate is different. Pros Fairly easy to use Nice to generate reports for specific states User Friendly Has all the taxing jurisdictions in each state outlined Cons How long it takes to generate a simple transaction report for a state sometimes I would not trust Vertex submitting an actual tax return. Vertex has made this task much easier ... instead of hiring employees to continually calculate and analyze tax data for state reporting we rely on Vertex to help us calculate what we need. Pros We collect sales tax from 34 different states and would have to hire a team of employees to do what Vertex does for us. Cons The software is a little difficult to understand at first, but with each issue I learn more about the capabilities and how to handle situations within the software. Review Source MS Mathew S. January 26, 2018 3.0 Other than some kinks we are trying to work out it is very nice to have the returns already generated. Pros The returns already generated versus filling in the information from a spreadsheet. It is pretty simple to use. Cons All the little issues like sales versus use tax. It is generating two returns when we are only set up for use tax which creates filing issues with the states.
