Pros I really like the the way the Learning Style Preferences and Skills & Dispositions Summary use age appropriate language and graphics to help students answer questions. I also think it is very helpful that students can easily have an audio version read to them. Cons My staff have reported some issues navigating throughout the software with being able to edit in Spanish, scroll on class lists, and overall we really would like a stand alone iOS application for students to use. The complete process of developing the profile, setting goals, aligning learning experiences, uploading evidence, linking standards and marking proficiencies takes the learner through the complete reflection process and captures every iteration in the history section. We also use the Professional Growth Platform (PGP) with our educators. The PGP mirrors the experience that the students go through and puts the adult in the role of the learner. Our educators develop their profiles, set goals, and track their professional growth throughout the year. The student and educator work together to support learning at all levels within our organization. Pros This tool is the only tool that focuses on capturing the learner's voice through a profile and then provides avenues for goal setting, learning plan development, uploading evidence and marking proficiencies on a continuum. This tool allows for customization and input from the student, teachers, parents and peers. Cons The calendar feature provides a basic way to schedule groups, align standards and offer optional seminars, but the features are basic and do not allow for easy changes once events are created. The platform is comprehensive so the implementation of this tool is a process. Having a strategic plan for implementation is necessary. The platform incorporates all of the components of personalized learning that our district is focusing on, including a learner's profile, a continuum of learning standards, and personalized goals connected to individual proficiency levels of the continuum standards. It has been invaluable to have one platform that houses all of these components in one place--something that teachers, students and parents all appreciate! Cons Although the updates that they have made have improved the ease of use (less clicks to get to the different areas of the platform), it is still cumbersome for our youngest learners to upload evidence toward goals and standards, and not as visually intuitive as some other portfolio-based programs. Additionally, because it is a web-based software that requires a user login and password, teachers often spend a large amount of time troubleshooting login issues with primary-aged students . Those profiles can drive the learning paths of students so they are engaged & empowered through their learning. The consistent requirement of feedback & reflection through the learning continuum offers a great snapshot of learning progress & mastery to all involved - students, parents, & teachers. Cons Epiphany Learning can be a lot to navigate for students, parents, and teachers. It often takes multiple clicks to get to an area of importance. Epiphany Learning is very open to suggestions and changes, which has been nice, but general navigation has a ways to go. It would also be nice like other online learning systems for Epiphany Learning to offer an app. We are a 1:1 iPad school and often the navigation on an iPad is clunky and the buttons don't always react.
