After I cloned with the other software. I once again tried "Reflect". I received the same GD error code 9. I went with Reflect because I did a ton of research on it before I downloaded and installed. I mean.... a TON. I'm baffled as to why Reflect fails and the others work. Pros Easy install, GUI was simple and easy to follow Cons As stated above the install and setup for cloning was easy, simple and quick. But that's as far as it went. I received an error 9 code. OK, no big deal, Right ?!? Well.... I tried every fix and troubleshooting technique. Nothing worked. Spent nearly 2 days-researching, reading , watching every possible scenario that would cause this particular error. Used every method to attempt to remediate my situation. I even used a 3rd party software(pro version). No errors could be found on the drive....yet I kept getting an error 9. So......What am I missing ? here's the kicker guys........... I finally gave up and tried a different cloning software. And guess what........ It went without a hitch. Cloned on the first attempt. So.... I ask again..... What am I missing here ? It restores your complete system not just your data. Now they just need to fix the licensing issue which can be problematic particularly with the home version. Pros I was using another product to backup Windows some 5 years ago which was never reliable in restoring backups. There would be intermittent blue screens whenever you plugged in a USB external drive while it was doing its 30–60-minute backup. With Macrium Reflect there has never been an issue with reliability of backups. It has improved from version 7 to the recent release of X in speed of backup to the point I can backup and verify a 100 gb C drive in less than 5 minutes (using USB4). It can restore your system, from scratch, in just a few minutes more. It can create a Windows PE bootable USB to restore, backup or fix boot problems with Windows Cons Paramount Software has instituted, like many software vendors, a yearly licensing fee which has its quirks, and the pressure will be on them to either develop another product or make it worth the user's money to pay yearly in order to upgrade with each release. In my view access to their excellent support is worth that fee. It is much better than the prior backup provider (Nova), and serves the entire PC - Windows included - where data-oriented backups (e.g. OneDrive, Google, Norton) don't cut it. Pros It is a pretty rock-solid backup platform that covers you with file-level, disk-level and pre-boot backup & restoration. It has saved me quite a number of times from difficult situations. For example, I have a couple of programs (including Macrium) that occasionally lose their key settings files on one of my computers. If I can't restore in a simpler way, I can restore the last good copy from a backup with a minimum of fuss, seeing & even opening the file(s) in question before restore. Macrium is also very useful in preparing a new HDD/SSD for use by copying whole disks or partitions. Lastly, there is occasional crapware that does something to my system that I can't figure out. Typically, the easiest solution is to simply restore from a backup a day, a week or sometimes a month prior. Viola! Problem solved. Cons Their new X version is a subscription based service that is now expensive. I prefer to buy my software. Getting thru to support is often a futile effort. Support has its own site, but their system doesn't recognize my credentials and I never received the reset key. Emails to their sales department about the issue are just ignored. At the moment, I can't obtain the support I paid for. In the past, when I was in contact with support, they would too often deny the reality of the issue I faced (and still face) such as the settings files disappearing. Since I also use the site manager, managing my computers is easy and very reliable. On top of that, I'm glad that the software doesn't require a cloud. I want to be able to save my backups locally without any cloud constraints. This works very well with Reflect (also with the SiteManager). Pros The software is very reliable and has never let me down. Cons The Windows PE environment is not so easy to understand for beginners and is somewhat confusing. Even though we have good source control and production data is safe, if my laptop fails it can be a major irritation. Being able to quickly restore a machine to what it was this morning mitigates that. I have a rotation of daily, weekly, and monthly backups on Macrium. Disaster has not yet struck, but I am ready. Pros Setup is easy, and operation is not overly intrusive Cons Just the fact that I have to backup at all; that there is a risk that my machine will need restoring, is the worst part. If a PC is trashed or a new HD installed then the Rescue media on a USB stick can always do the job. Pros Simple answer, It has not yet let me down in restoring a backup to a PC or server when it has been necessary to do so. Also being able to mount a backup as a drive to access files without having to do a restore is a big plus point. Macrium Reflect X is able to do this in a little over 1 hour to my external SSD. This can be done even quicker using faster drives. Macrium Reflect gives me the peace of mind I need in case my Laptop ever ceases to function. I can rely on the fact that I can always restore my image to different to a different machine using the bare metal restore feature. This saves a ton of time having to reinstall over 3 Terabytes of music creation software & sounds, as well as having to reconfiguring everything. With Reflect I can rest assured I will always be able to re-open project files as the system will remain exactly the same if restore is ever necessary. Reflect is probable the most important software that I use to ensure my business will always remain in operation as long as I have my data in-tact. I recommend Reflect to anyone that needs their data safe. Pros It includes a bare metal restore image feature. Cons The UI design, but I understand the minimal approach for better performance. Once you get past the learning curve that new users experience the software is pretty much “Set & Forget”. We have had a couple weird issues here and there but did eventually figure them out. The backups are quite fast and having ransomware protection to restrict the backup partition to only be accessible by Macrium Reflect is also critical to my business. December 20, 2024 5.0 Using Macrium Workstation was a little trying at first because I was not familiar with the difference between an image and a clone. I was also very cautious not to overwrite my laptop operating system until I noticed you put the windows logo next to windows based operating systems representing my laptop. Really appreciate that. I recommend this software highly. Pros I like the fact that its easy to use. The dashboard is intuitive and its output is reliable. I am able to take an image of a drive that could take me 2 to 3 days to configure manually and restore it to a drive and be operating within an hour. Cons I have not figured out yet how to clone or image a UNIX based solid state drive using Macrium and was forced to use a software having to boot in another operating system to do it. President Information Technology and Services Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Macrium Reflect lets me sleep at night" February 23, 2021 5.0 We use Macrium Reflect to ensure all of our servers are full imaged daily (some servers are imaged multiple times per day) for disaster recovery purposes. We also utilize it on a good percentage of our workstations for similar disaster recovery reasons. It has never let us down. We've fully recovered multiple servers from hardware failure (such as failed/corrupted RAID arrays) using the Reflect image. It's truly a life saver. Pros We utilize Macrium Reflect on all of the servers we administer and many of the workstations as well. We've used Macrium Reflect for many years and have full faith and trust that it is continually making full image backups of our servers. It has never let us down. We've quickly and easily restored entire servers from hardware failures using the Reflect image. We appreciate the email and log notifications it provides and the very clear and straightforward setup and configuration. Tech support is also very responsive and helpful (for the few times we've needed support). It is, truly, one of the most important and valuable tools in our tool bag. Cons We've used Macrium Reflect for many years. Everything we've ever wished was there has been added. There is nothing, currently, I can think of that I wish it could do or that could be easier. It provides options for creating bootable rescue media (USB or DVD) that can be used to restore your system in case it becomes unbootable. Cons At the end of 2023, support for the free version of Macrium Reflect will end. It's a shame because it was one of the best solutions for home users! August 12, 2019 5.0 Pros The amount of use I have gotten out of this software is astounding. First of all, the free version works wonders. The paid versions works even better. Doesn't let you complete a clone unless it knows it's going to fully work. I am impressed by Macrium, and every technician in our shop trusts this software for clones and copies of HDD's. Cons The updates are tedious and notifications can get annoying, but that's a small price to pay for how incredible this software is.
