Cons Productboard is a fairly young company and is still building out some "no brainer" features, but they also release fantastic updates often! June 11, 2018 5.0 Pros As a CEO of an early stage company, I wear a lot of hats. I had to find a way to create really clear roadmaps for the team and change them as we itterate that was visual, easy an most importantly, fast. Productboard was everything I was looking for and so much more. - The UI looks fantastic. - There are views for every kind of roadmap discussion, whether that's sprints, waterfall, high level, releases. However you run development or create roadmaps, there's a view that supports the context of that conversation. - Once you get an understanding of how it works, adding features and prioritizing/categorizing them is a breeze. - The tools for prioritization and impact scoring are super easy and helpful. - If you're like me and are a bit new to product management, the tool will actually make you better at your job and help you show up for the product team with the types of clear, visual roadmaps they need to get on board with vision. Cons I had a tiny bit of trouble getting a hang of the UI the first few hours. Which was frustrating at first, then I watched a few tutorials, got the hang of it, and was off to the races. Ultimately that's pretty good for a product that is as robust as this one. But do yourself a favor and watch some tutorials before you try to create your first roadmap. Review Source EB Eliel B. Would add a progress bar or % on the tasks to better indicate the status. Pros Very visual, it's easy to understand how to use the tool and also to absorb what you are seeing as a user if the tasks are already organized. Cons Takes some time to understand how to handle all the options, the organization of the tasks is quite easy but the other options are a little bit counter-intuitive. Review Source KD Kate D. Not always but product board does a good job of making it easy for the entire org to capture and share insights. The 'inbox' is where the majority of these get funneled. Insights can have labels associated with them so you can implement all types of filtering and prioritization. The product roadmaps are well-designed and are dynamic to adjust for the necessary audience. Cons Interestingly, I received feedback that the onboarding for non-PMs was a bit challenging. Team members weren't quite sure how to use the tool to provide feedback. The inbox can get quite cluttered and it's best to educate team members on how to submit ideas. Review Source AC Angie C. Productboard enables everyone in the company to contribute ideas and insights. Once PMs have done prioritization, they can visualize the plan in multiple dynamic roadmap dashboards. Overall this works well as a product-focused tool which can also integrate with other systems. Cons Feature-wise it's still a bit sparse. From an insight perspective, it would be nice to add constraints or templates to help structure the feedback. This would help when pruning the backlog of items. Review Source AC Alex C. Pros It is intuitive and a great solution to manage product roadmap,. Cons It is not always easy to see the dependencies and for that reason gets difficult buy in from engineering. Cons I've been a long time user so most of the things I liked least are start to/have been fixed. I can't think of anything off the top of my head that I like the least? Didn't see any similar tool yet that focusses that much on proceeding user's feedback. Pros Easy integration into github/ jira etc and easy way to submit insights via email or chrome plugin. Besides, really great way of gathering feedback and not loosing any customer' feedback for certain features. Cons Weak in project management (gantt-charts for managing classic software projects) - but for me this is fine, the tool is for discovery and more for agile projects. Reason for choosing Productboard Focus on user value - not on task management. June 29, 2021 5.0 It was used to manage features and rollout of iOS and web applications. Pros We've used PB on and off for several years. It's promise is great - keeping track of requests, features, and requirements is an incredible need on complex builds, and JIRA is a nightmare for that. But PB only delivers partially on that promise. Cons I want to like this product, but it seems to copy so much from Jira that it becomes a second silo of features and requirements. And we already have Jira for that. The timeline and forecasting tools are weak and inflexible, the UI is sufficiently complex as to be unusable by team members that don't use it daily (making collaboration harder, just like Jira). We eventually churned and returned to spreadsheets, it wasn't as collaborative as hoped, and not as necessary as Jira. Review Source MR Miroslav R. Pros Ability to organizing feedback and relate that feedback from a customer and its importance to features. This allows us to trace back feedback and see it in context when prioritizing roadmap. This combined with the other prioritization features have made it the best overall tool I have found for prioritizing roadmap based on multiple factors then ability to prioritize features based on multiple factors Cons Nothing particularly negative, though I could see challenges scaling at a very large organization and there are a number of feature enhancements I would like to improve the value I get from it. I only contribute things and review things within the boards of our organization but overall I really like the transparency and visual alignment it allows for to group subjects or items together. Pros It's very easy to use for both a user and from a client standpoint. I'm on our biz dev team and based on conversations we have, we add needs or gaps to the feature roadmap. Very easy to add notes directly within or to send emails to a specified address that automatically adds them into productboard. Cons A little cumbersome when searching for content. I will search for items that I know are in the board and no results come up. I'm sure it's just a semantics issue most of the time though! Review Source Gus G. I love having the ability to categorize insights, assign them to users/companies, and attach them to features or ideas on the roadmap. Having a dynamic roadmap that I can assign these insights to makes it incredibly easy to recognize areas of opportunity. It is really part of my daily job ! Pros Productboard is friendly and easy to use, and really helps me keep track of the feedback our teams and myself collect from the customer. Thanks to the various integration I can never miss feedbacks: - Salesforce integration helps us keep track of lost deals - Slack integration helps us keep track of feedback shared during a conversation between teammates - Intercom integration send us what is collected via the support And then of course our dear CS and Sales team help us by writing notes after talking to our customers! Does a good job for early customer discovery. Cons It seems to be too expensive for what it does (at the tier we use it at anyway, which is in the middle). For someone who is great in Microsoft Excel, you could organize a lot of the same inputs it for a fraction of the cost of Productboard. Pros productboard makes it obvious and easy to coordinate feedback, features, and roadmap. Instead of investing in "power" features for more complex roadmaps, productboard focuses on ease of use and straightforward roadmap creation. The ability to tie features and releases to discrete pieces of feedback or single customers is a tremendous value add. Cons More integration support in the future would be a big value add. October 24, 2019 5.0 We now have the ammo to argue intelligently for more development resources, and point directly to the features we could build with X number of development hours. Pros The surface level defaults make sense to get started, and then when you need depth it's there. The software doesn't push you toward a particular methodology to make decisions about setting your roadmap, but gives you the tools to understand every data point on a feature (how many people are asking? which user groups?) so you can prioritize however you see fit. Cons It could handle subfeatures a little better.
