### "It comes free with Windows. "

September 30, 2018

It is a great alternative to MS Office. We saved money rather than buying license for MS

Pros

It is a great alternative to Microsoft office and allows you to create documents as similar as MS office

Cons

Some MS Office formatting is not accepted at OpenOffice and thus changes/destroys the document when saved. It is advisable to create docs using OpenOffice and remain the use there

### "Best Free Office Suite Option"

August 20, 2019

5.0

Pros

This is the most well supported and full featured office suite available. It includes alternatives to most popular office apps and solutions for word processing, presentations, and spreadsheets. It is also compatible with popular file formats such as docx, xlsx, and pptx.

Cons

User interface looks like much older versions of commercial office software.

### "Hey, it's Free, you'll always get more than what you pay for."

November 7, 2017

3.0

Free ability to have lots of functionality - just don't share any working documents with people because most companies only have Office.

Pros

It's nice for people who don't want to spend the money for Office. It gives another option that's free and fairly intuitive. And as long as everyone you know uses OpenOffice (or if you only send .PDF files), you'll never have formatting issues.

Cons

As alluded to above, one of the major problems I've faced in the past when using OpenOffice, is the inability (in some cases) to have Microsoft Word open an OpenOffice file without making it look like a 1st grader tried formatting the document. Given that this is an open source code, the formatting issues and correction time might make buying Microsoft Office a more viable option.

### "Cheap alternative for Microsoft office"

July 29, 2021

5.0

Its frugal to use OpenOffice as compared Microsoft office.

Pros

It is as simple as installing a normal application. OpenOffice has everything that a document management, data management tool should have. Need to work with big data, use calc. Need to prepare document to present, software documentation or anything, you can just use open office

Cons

The only downside is the look and feel, even though it has everything for the cheapest value but the UI is not eye-catching.

### "Great free office solution"

April 28, 2018

4.0

Pros

I started using it while I was a student and it helped me a lot with all projects and presentations. I use mainly Apache OpenOffice Writer,Calc, Impress and Math. I use it on Windows(however, it's available for Mac and Linux) and it has good integration with my OS. It's free software, a great substitute for the paid versions. It has good functionality and compatibility with the different file types. I love that there are a ton of extensions that can be downloaded for free. Apache OpenOffice is not heavy and runs smoothly. It's perfect for personal/ non-commercial use.

Cons

I found only one con of Apache OpenOffice and this is the software design. It reminds me of 1999 MS office, however it's free and I do not ask for more.

### "Awesome software, please consider a donation!"

October 15, 2019

5.0

There is no other software I would recommend if someone is looking for a free office suite that works out of the box in minutes. The features are unparalleled and everyone needs to give it a shot before paying for potentially more expensive software.

Pros

The software is very handy and best of all it is FREE. Takes away all the stress of installing a massive office suite with unneeded programs in it (Won't mention the name here). Fast to load, takes a small amount of space and is easy to uninstall parts if you need to.

Cons

The writer software could use some work with custom fonts--Sometimes, they will not appear on the software at all for some reason. I used a font called Roboto and it won't register. Wonder why.

Reason for choosing Apache OpenOffice

It was free and had the same functionality.

### "I recommend this to all"

January 3, 2019

5.0

Pros

No need to pay for the Microsoft suite with this open source, fully compatible suite. I use Opencalc and Open Office Writer on a daily basis.

Cons

Very rarely, a document will show a few modifications after being transferred to a computer using Microsoft Office and Excel. It's rare and the changes are minor when it happens.

### "Good alternative to the Microsoft products"

September 21, 2019

5.0

Pros

I like the similarity to the Microsoft office suite together with being a free product. I'm using it for a very long time, partially because I am a Unix/Linux user.

Cons

Conversion from/to MS word is not always good, some problems with formatting are common. This is mitigated by exporting to pdf format though.

### "Great free alternative to MS Office"

September 22, 2020

5.0

I've used it for years for basic documents and household use. I've created many spreadsheets, tables, charts, essays, resumes, etc. A great option if you don't want to spend the money on MS office

Pros

Gives you the ability to create word documents, spread sheets, etc, just like MS office. It's completely free!

Cons

The file formats are a bit different, so if you try to open an Excel spreadsheet with openoffice, it may not open correctly

### "OpenOffice is best open source software ever"

September 26, 2018

5.0

I was Microsoft Office user once upon a time and couldn't imagine living without it. But then we decided to go open source way and came across OpenOffice. I am using OpenOffice for more than 5 years now. At first, it felt different than Office but more I used OpenOffice I got good at it and since then never felt the need of going back to Microsoft Office again. It has all the bells and whistles at free of cost. People often complain that they can't use shortcut keys they are used to, but if you Google you will find alternative shortcut keys for the same thing. Agreed it does not have jazzy GUI, but do you want functionality or looks? I just love OpenOffice now and I recommend it to everyone very strongly.

Pros

Ease to use All features you would expect Fast & responsive All shortcut keys work

Cons

None. I like its down-to-earth UI which other people frown upon.

### "Free AND compatible"

May 8, 2022

4.0

It is a great free alternative to Office and is good if you need to install on lots of machines.

Pros

It is able to be used to view and modify existing .doc files and .xml files. It is completely free and is easy to download use and distribute.

Cons

It is a pretty boring visual layout and the latest office product file formats do not always work. You must save the files locally.

### "The best spreadsheet tool out there"

May 1, 2018

5.0

Pros

I love this software. I install this software on every machine I use before I even think about opening a spreadsheet file. I just think it is user-friendly, easy to use, clean, and it does the trick. It is free! That's the best part if we forget that it works seamlessly and never freezes my system like other similar tools do. Presentations are easy to create. I just can't understand the clogged interphase of other software tools after using Open Office. I always go back to it.

Cons

No cons; other than an occasional compatibility issue between Microsoft Word or Excel, but I wouldn't blame that on Open Office, to be honest! It's a great tool and I'm a big fan. Would never switch at this point.

### "OpenOffice Review"

March 27, 2019

5.0

Like I've just said I've used this for about 17 years now and I got the latest version and I love using it. Has everything I need. Can't find anything to complain about. I highly recommend this for writers who don't want to pay the high price for Word.

Pros

I like that this document writer is easy to use. I like that fact I can use Dragon Naturally Speaking program with it when my hands are bothering me or just don't want to type the old fashion way. It had a read-aloud tool plus word count that I use often.

Cons

I've used this program for 17 years now and I can't find anything wrong with it. It has just about everything that Word has. Sometimes you just have to look for it or youtube it. But I've found everything I need so far in this word document.

### "I use the Word Processor daily"

January 25, 2018

5.0

Able to open doc files with no problem. It cost me nothing to install.

Pros

Freeware, no cost. It is compatible with Microsoft Word. I like the ruler on the top and left side that help in placing and sizing pictures.

Cons

It is very unfortunate that the Open Office Sbase does not seem to be compatible with Microsoft Access.

### "OpenOffice Review"

November 24, 2018

5.0

It's a great free alternative to Microsoft Office and would recommend it as an option to people who are not able to have access to Microsoft

Pros

The fact that you can have access to a free alternative to a paid Microsoft package is amazing and works just as well. The products you would normally use on Microsoft are replicated on here so it doesn't feel unfamiliar to you when you use it. The alternative word document has no major differences to Word itself, same sort of features and also has its own template versions, so there is an alternative to every service you are used to having.

Cons

As I was used to having word documents and just saving them, I found it hard to remember to save the documents as a word document rather than an open office document as I found that some people I was sending the documents to were having issues when the document opened.

### "A good option "

May 17, 2019

4.0

It worked for what I needed at the time. I have recommended this option to people who simply are not in a position to buy commercial software. Their needs are such that they don't need intuitive or even know what that might be. Once I am used to the offering, it does work very well. I appreciate the efforts that go into innovation and believe that innovation should be encouraged and supported.

Pros

A philosophic opportunity at a great price. Sometimes we just want to exert our independence and use software that is being built all the time. The price is terrific, although you can donate to help developers.

Cons

Be aware that this software isn't as intuitive as it could be. There are times when it seems archaic, reminding me of office suites from the 1990s.

Fast, free and good word processing and spreadsheets

Pros

Obviously being open source the software's price is nice. I like the flexibility of formatting and find the user experience to be quite good!

Cons

Just a few clunky things here and there and sometimes it doesn't "look" as pretty as the "other guys"

### "One of the easiest word programs around."

March 17, 2021

5.0

I use it several times a week in my job. I can create invoices with it. I do word documents. I've been able to create a multi-page pamphlet/brochure for my business with this software. It's just great overall and very easy to use.

Pros

User friendly. If you ever used Word Perfect or other word programs before, this is just as easy to use (or even easier). Most of the same short-cut keys work from older version of any word program. I was able to use this within seconds of installing it. Very user-friendly and easy to figure out when you try something new. Comes with some built-in templates, too!

Cons

So far I haven't found any cons other than the fact that all help is on-line (but isn't that so for most stuff nowadays?) I used to like having a brochure/booklet to accompany a program so I could go step by step and learn all the features.

Reason for choosing Apache OpenOffice

It was more user-friendly and I had heard very good things about it. MSWord was getting old, and it had been around a while with no improvements. I wanted to go with something new and fresh.

March 27, 2021

Pros

\- Compatible with Mac - Free - User friendly - Easy and fast to download - Able to create and edit most document types

I have not had many any issues with Apache, but have found once in a while some documents not opening up correctly. Overall, it is great for being a free program.
