### "I actually prefer it to MS Office"

January 7, 2019

5.0

Pros

This is an intuitive suite of applications, with all of the same functionality as MS office. I initially downloaded this as I did not have a license for MS, and did not want to pay an exorbitant amount of money to word process. Over the years, however, I have grown to prefer OpenOffice to MS office entirely. It's easier to use, the layout is (to me) more intuitive, there are a wide array of file types I can save my documents as, and it's all open source, which can't be beat. It'll get you where you need to go and it'll do it well.

Cons

Perhaps my only issue was the default saving as an openoffice file type, but that's easily changed. Otherwise no complaints!

### "Good, free option offering a complete office suite"

June 8, 2023

4.0

A good option overall, and its price point (free) is a huge advantage.

Pros

OpenOffice being completely free is its main advantage. It offers a decent office suite with a good range of features. Common filetypes (ie: MS Office) can be opened / edited too, which is great.

Cons

The only real negative is that it feels somewhat slower / harder to use than MS Office.

### "Does what MS Office does, free"

May 5, 2020

4.0

It does the job and it's free, what more can you say?

Pros

Apache OpenOffice is a replacement for Microsoft Office that is free. It has a suite of apps replacing Word, Excel, and more. It has the majority of features as well.

Cons

The equivalent to Word, Writer, can't save in .docx format, only .doc. Not a terrible problem but annoying.

Libre has a few features that are better than OpenOffice, but for whatever reason, I find OpenOffice's layout more comforting.

### "OpenOffice Review"

August 15, 2021

5.0

Pros

OpenOffice has a stable version now which makes me use it often for checking my files for compatability purposes. Aside from that it is totally free since it is an open source software. Features just like MS Office tools are available in OpenOffice for word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and many more this makes the software very versatile one.

Cons

Compatability issues with Microsoft Office might be one of the problems I saw since importing files from OpenOffice to Microsoft Office makes some of its content not available.

3.0

Good if you are thin on budget and want some basic functionality

Pros

Cons

Features are not great and sometimes are not designed well Developer community is thin and hence less online forums to help Security patches sometimes take very long to show up Font library is tiny

### "One of my favorite tools for several years"

March 28, 2018

5.0

Pros

All the tools are excellent ... I use them daily and they have never bothered me, I love especially Write, it's the best.

Cons

Very occasionally it still has faults when passing some files to Microsoft Office. However, it remains a powerful and comfortable tool.

### "Perfect Office Software"

April 5, 2019

5.0

I love using open office. I use MS office at work since it is installed, but at home, I use open office. It's compatible with MS Office anyways.

Pros

This software is surprisingly great. I prefer to use this over MS office. It just seems to work better for all of my office needs. It just works! Loads fast, has great options for spreadsheet software, and it's easy to find assistance via Google search when you need help. Perfect for the home office!

Cons

I am not sure of any cons other than maybe support. The formulas for the spreadsheet do use some different characters for things like the "Concat" function, which may cause confusion for people switching from MS office.

### "Great free office suite"

March 24, 2018

4.0

Pros

Can do almost everything that Microsoft Office can do and more, if it were mainstream then it would be the leader.

Cons

Subtle formatting differences mean that someone viewing your document in another suite (Microsoft) may see a miss formatted document.

### "Excel not very efficient, Word much better"

June 12, 2022

2.0

Pros

It is free software, so you have to start from this premise. If a person doesn't need to use Office every day for work, that's fine too. Using the word processor Word is also very good. A little less Excel, as it has significantly reduced functionality compared to Microsoft's product and it crashes on different operating systems, many functions are not clear and difficult to find

Cons

Surely the Excel spreadsheet program should be improved

### "Great product for the price"

November 9, 2017

4.0

I get increased productivity by being able to create presentations, documents, and spreadsheets without having to pay a lot of money.

Pros

What's not to like about free software that helps you get stuff done? I am glad that there are great developers and companies that are willing to offer software like this for free.

Cons

Some of the functionality and features are not as good as other commercial software, but because this is free I am a lot more willing to over look those limitations. One feature that is sorely missing is some kind of collaborative editor. I have had to use online document programs to get this capability

### "Great for a free software"

February 22, 2019

3.0

This software got me through many online courses. As I worked full time and was paying for everything myself at the time and I couldn't justify paying for microsoft office at the time. So I also downloaded it for my work computer and it really did do the job. I do feel I needed to upgrade to microsoft office eventually. It has the major functions you need but could do with adding more.

Pros

It free, Very easy to use. If you never used microsoft office before you wouldn't know you where missing out on anything.

Cons

If you send a document to someone with microsoft office they will have to fix it up and move things around as the format will change. It doesn't have as all the functions that microsoft office has.

### "User Friendly Free Office Software"

November 22, 2022

4.0

Pros

Offers the same functionality as Microsoft word for free! It also works across platforms such as Windows and Linux. Works fast and runs without glitches or errors. Easy for even my elderly parents to use.

Cons

There really is no support besides a user forum, but for free software, what can you expect? You have to remember to convert your document types to MS before transferring to others or they can not open the documents.

### "This IS my office suite"

December 14, 2018

5.0

Great - like I said - its my office suite. Anything I do that it can do, I use Open Office. Often others I collaborate with use WORD and I have to read/edit and return these documents so that they can then use what I send back. I've done this for clients and for work with committees for writing national standards and the interchange is nearly transparent. As mentioned above only recently have I have problems with advanced mathematical formulas from a DOCX file.

Pros

It has all the Office Suite elements and its FREE. It also reasonably supports many file formats since I often have to use it to read documents from others in their format.

Cons

It could do a better job with importing complicated formulas from a DOCX file.

### "Amazing Office Solution"

August 6, 2018

5.0

It's solved having office applications on several different machines that rotate out at intermittent times and that don't have a need for a full fledged Microsoft Office installation.

Pros

This is by far one of my favorite programs. I use several different computers for my job and I need an office application on each of the four different PC's I have to switch back and forth on each day. Saves a lot of money in the IT budget and has the same functionality as Microsoft Office and is a bit more flexible.

Cons

I really have nothing negative to say about OpenOffice. It's free and does a great job. Maybe one downfall is that there isn't a replacement for Outlook.

November 26, 2018

5.0

Pros

I love the dough software is free, that's a huge bonus, but I also love that it's very similar to the leading competitor.

Cons

There are some features that don't seem to be a hundred percent compatible but again it's a free product.

### "office suite free of cost "

September 8, 2021

3.0

Pros

Best thing is the s/w is free to use and hence you don’t need license like you need for MS office. Off course it’s nowhere near MS office but does what is required out of your job for free so can’t really complain

Cons

The biggest drawback is compatibility with ms office . Even though it’s compatible but the. Formatting of your document will not be same when you open the word file generated from open office to ms word. Other challenges are it’s slow as compared to ms office and with less features

### "Perfect alternative for Microsoft Office"

August 9, 2022

5.0

Pros

Since discovering OpenOffice I never needed to renew my Microsoft Office. The key features I needed like PowerPoint and Publisher work perfectly with OpenOffice's alternatives!

Cons

Sometimes opening formatted Word documents can require manual re-aligning. But it's not a deal-breaker.

### "It works great for my needs"

August 28, 2019

5.0

Apache OpenOffice was a solution for me when we acquired on more computer. I did not have to pay to get Microsoft Office (again). I am using it the same as I am using Microsoft Office, without a problem. Really happy with it.

Pros

I like that is for free and I still can do what I need to do. I used (and I am still using on some devices) Microsoft Office, but it was very easy to switch to OpenOffice: I write, save, send documents without problems. Maybe at the begginig, you need some time to get used to the interface, but this is not a big deal.

Cons

The differences that are between OpenOffice Calc and Excel. I thought that OpenOffice is similar in everything to Microsoft Office, so this was a surprise for me, as my job requires working in Excel. But it was not a problem, in the end, to learn it.

### "Open Office: the greatest and cheapest alternative to MS Office"

November 10, 2019

4.0

OpenOffice is the best replacement for MSOffice and in some case not a replacements at all but a better suite overall. Deplyoment is usually easier than Offfice, especially since Microsoft started rolling out Office 365 as a subscription service.

Pros

Open Office is a great suite that in some areas has even better features than MS Office. Draw for example beat Visio while Base has less feature than Access but more industry standard support than it. Add to this the suite is completely free and give support to more file formats than MS Office and you will understand why many switched to it. Add also that it is multiplatform and you can use it on Windows as well as on Linux and that's the cherry on the cake.

Cons

Being a multi platform suite the user interface suffer a little by not being fully compliant to Windows standards. So user switching from a MS Office suite should be trained to accept the new look and feel, although just a matter of cosmetics.

### "Easy alternative office suite, with a liberal distribution/reuse license."

March 27, 2018

4.0

Pros

The direct descendant of old StarOffice, but now under the relaxed licensing/distribution of an Apache license. It handles large, complicated documents that are slow or broken using cloud-based tools, and without the heavy baggage and high cost of Microsoft desktop suites.

Cons

Compared to the competing forks (notably LibreOffice), OpenOffice has a very slow, irregular release schedule. The UI hasn't seen serious care or attention in a while, making your 2018 version look awful much the same as it did years ago. There's no decent updater, requiring a manual process for each release.

### "Open Office - Great Office Suite"

October 16, 2018

5.0

Pros

Great Windows Office replacement, has all the base features of word or powerpoint that you need.

Cons

The software did lack some functionality of Windows Office and flair, it is more basic but met my needs.
