### "Fantastic software for all your office needs!"

July 9, 2019

5.0

I've used OpenOffice in a few different settings. I worked for an RV company where I was first introduced to Apache OpenOffice and used the spreadsheets to keep track of different jobs and tracking information lists. I was amazed to learn that OpenOffice was not only free but offered a lot of the same applications as the competition. Now, as an independent author, I use OpenOffice all the time! I'm on a budget, so having OpenOffice is a real lifesaver for my wallet. But on top of that, they don't skimp out on the quality or the ability to save your work in multiple formats, making documents acceptable no matter what kind of software the person you're sending your projects to uses. I call that a win all the way around and I absolutely recommend OpenOffice all the time to other writers and people I talk to in general!

Pros

Easy to use. Free to download. Multiple applications. Can save in different formats.

Cons

The app for android isn't completely free, but other than that if you're using it on a PC, I have not one bad word to say about it!

### "An amazing free alternative to Microsoft Office"

October 5, 2019

5.0

I use the text program to write documents for work when I am at home. I have also used the slideshow maker and the spreadsheet maker and then opened the documents in the microsoft software, and it worked great.

Pros

I love that Open Office can save documents as real Microsoft documents and can be opened later by the Microsoft software.

Cons

I have used this software for probably 10 years now and have not found a single thing I did not like. It looks a little different than Microsoft products but works exactly the same.

### "Best replacement of Microsoft Office"

September 6, 2018

5.0

I use all the tools that come with the Open Office but mainly Open Calc (like Excel) I handle long lists, the best thing of it, is that it handles special characters from different languages (Spanish in my case) in a flexible manner, you are able to directly save UTF8 codification without a hassle. I do use .csv files a lot.

Pros

The software is free, and it is compatible with the most common Microsoft Office products. It really saves you from trouble if you cannot buy Microsoft Office at some point.

Cons

It is not as easy to use as Microsoft Office, it does not handle the copy and past formatting in the way Microsoft Office does, this means that it will take you more time to complete a task.

### "Good for offline work"

December 7, 2019

4.0

Writing text documents, creating presentations and spreadsheets. It's very functional, cross platform and the most important it's free even for commercial use

Pros

First of all it is free and open source. What's more it allows to edit all kind of office documents offline which is very important while traveling

Cons

Graphical layout could be improved. Sometimes it's quite hard to find some feature, especially when someone is used to use other similar office apps. Sometimes documents compatibility with other office apps is problematic as well

### "OpenOffice has always been a boon"

July 21, 2019

Overall, they're doing great work by proving a free office suite, and having done so for a long time.

Pros

Well for starters, it's free. At times when Microsoft Office was not available and an offline solution was needed, OpenOffice has always been a reliable workhorse

Cons

Used to be a bit bloated and buggy but it's better now

### "I use it daily in my work and in my house since it facilitates my tasks"

May 3, 2018

5.0

Pros

It is a replica of Microsoft word with some differences. It's quick I can use it on my personal computer computer which is very limited in terms of its memory and disk resources. In my work we have it installed with Ubuntu. I can do my daily tasks since it has the same tools as Microsoft Office with only different names for example Excel would be equivalent to Calc and so on with the others.

Cons

Despite the efforts made in this free software has limitations in terms of compatibility is concerned because when for example you import a Word document that has many formats to make the conversion this is not one hundred percent good.

### "Free, Useful Suite"

September 13, 2018

4.0

Pros

I like that OpenOffice is free - I've used it for years as an alternative to the Microsoft Office Suite, and it's a fine alternative, although it's definitely not perfect

Cons

I hate that the default file type is their own, not .doc/.ppt/whatever the standard extensions are. I've also had some issues with formatting (ie bullet points save as question marks inside of boxes rather than bullet points). But overall, these downsides are worth it because the package is free.

### "OpenOffice is Great for Free"

September 9, 2019

5.0

If you use MS Office, you will have enough common sense to get up and running with OpenOffice. I enjoyed my experience would recommend this product before MS Office.

Pros

I like the fact the office suite is free and is compatible with popular word processing software. The features are plentiful.

Cons

The software tries to replicate MS Office. If you are used to using MS Office, there are subtle differences which require you to acclimate to the differences.

### "Sometimes we use it in the work area as an alternative to having alternatives to Word, PowerPoint, E"

March 7, 2018

4.0

Also used as word processor, such as spreadsheet, presentation graphics, drawing, equation editor and database.

Pros

It is easy to learn, it is available in several languages and can read files from other office packages, it can be downloaded and used completely free without paying licenses.

Cons

It can be said that it is a bit slower Processing speed, when editing and saving documents and other files, OpenOffice also uses more memory resources.

### "Great If You Don't Have Microsoft Office"

October 28, 2018

4.0

If you don't need a standalone piece of software, Google Docs may also be worth a look.

Pros

The fact that OpenOffice is open source helps keep it up to date, and importantly - free! It will allow you to use most of the features you may be used to in the Microsoft Office suite, although it will look and feel different with some functions not found here.

Cons

Feels a little bit clunky and has a more cluttered UI compared to alternatives such as Microsoft Office and Google Docs.

### "Pleased Customer"

August 5, 2019

5.0

I'm an author, but like most upcoming artists, saving money is important to me. I felt I was able to do with this great software!

Pros

I thought I was going to have to spend so much money to get a similar suite that is Office. When I found OpenOffice, I loved it just as much, if not more.

Cons

I don't have many dislikes. If there were things I didn't know how to do, I've learned how to do them by now, really just by playing around. It's very user-friendly.

### "A nice alternative to Microsoft Word"

May 15, 2019

5.0

Pros

Basic version is free and a more easily customizable version of Microsoft Word. Documents created in OpenOffice are generally translatable into Microsoft Word and other document programs without too much hassle or format loss.

Cons

Native files sometimes don't read well by other document programs like Microsoft Word so you're better off just using OpenOffice for all document projects or importing other document formats into OpenOffice.

### "OpenOffice is free and fully functional, great alternative to Microsoft Word"

July 17, 2018

4.0

Pros

super user friendly, can import docx format, you can use it with fairly all the systems. Is the solution to go for personal use or small businesses which cannot afford a Microsoft Office license.

Cons

It requires JRE means large installation ; even if nice you can import document from Microsoft Word it requires extra work because not all the time the imported documents looks like the original one.

Cons

### "Not the best, not the worst."

October 22, 2020

3.0

It was reliable for many years. but I eventually I had to switch to Libre office because of the horrible image glitch.

Pros

It's relatively easy to use. It's a great option for a free word processor. I used OpenOffice for several years to compile books.

Cons

There's a glitch when inserting images into a document. There were several times I had to scrap an entire book because the images would not load correctly.

### "A great FREE alternative to Microsoft"

August 7, 2018

5.0

My overall experience has been positive. It's free but has great community support. I hope they keep doing what they're doing there.

Pros

It's FREE. Just about anything you can do with Microsoft Office you can do with OpenOffice.

Cons

Just about. There are some things that Microsoft Office does better. Occasional issues, such as a printer stopped working which required me to delete the printer from the computer and reinstall. Not a big deal on home computers typically.

### "A very Good Backup Utility to have"

June 19, 2020

4.0

I had Microsoft Office for many years, Due to business slowing down, we had to rely on another software, Apache OpenOffice was just as good a software as I had used.

Pros

I like this software, any documents made from another compatible software, will be able to export it to this cost efficient just as well.

Cons

lack of templates for useful documents to use for implementing a plan. I didn't see much of word art offers

### "Freedom"

October 19, 2019

5.0

We write manuals, blogs and music daily. This product meets our needs without Microsoft.

Pros

It has every thing I need for our word processing and daily writing needs. We self publish teaching and instruction manuals and like the ease.

Cons

Hard to connect the email feature so you can send document directly. Also it auto saves in .odt format rather than something more universal.

Reason for choosing Apache OpenOffice

I researched and liked the open source.
