much prefer google docs to any windows related option. no hassle like their cloud system, which is rotten. it's like a streamlined version of the old competition, but now there is zero competition

Pros

it's got everything from the miftsocro office sweets but it's NOT MS! also browser based, self-saving, connection to google drive

Cons

having to log in all the time. really i can't find anything else to complain about. it's a great system

Switched from

[Microsoft Word](https://www.capterra.com/p/227146/Microsoft-Word/)

first of all, it's FREE. but secondly there haven't been user friendly updates to office in decades. and the google storage is MUCH easier to deal with than the "ONE DRIVE" disaster system

My overall experience with Google Docs was a very good experience I found it easy to use. I would definitely recommend.

Pros

What I liked most about Google Docs is that I could send a link to my associates and allow them to make suggestions and edit my document.

Cons

What I dislike about Google Docs would be the fact that it did not have as much editing that I could do from other software platforms.

Google Docs remains one of the best cloud-based word processors available. The collaboration features are unmatched, and improvements like smart canvas, pageless format, and AI-powered writing suggestions with Gemini integration have made it even more useful. For teams that prioritize collaboration over advanced formatting, it's the clear choice.

Pros

Google Docs excels at real-time collaboration — multiple people can edit simultaneously with changes reflected instantly. Version history, commenting, and suggesting mode make document review workflows smooth. The deep integration with Google Drive, Gmail, and Meet makes it the backbone of any Google Workspace setup.

Cons

Google Docs has limited formatting and layout options compared to Microsoft Word, which can be frustrating for complex documents. Working offline requires advance setup, and large documents with many images or complex formatting can become sluggish. Advanced features like mail merge or macros require workarounds or add-ons.

Enjoying it so far. I really enjoy how easy it is to share a document with other individuals. I would like a better way of organizing google documents though.

Pros

I like that docs are easily shared across our organization. We are able to access them on our computer or other devices with ease.

Cons

They tend to not be quite as user friendly as Microsoft word but that may be in part due to still learning.

Google Docs has become the backbone of my daily workflow. As a student and developer, I rely on it for everything from quick note-taking to structured project documentation. It removes the "anxiety of the save button" with its instant auto-save and allows for a level of teamwork that feels natural rather than forced. It’s not just a word processor; it’s a communication tool that bridges the gap between brainstorming and final execution.

Pros

The real-time collaboration is unparalleled. Whether I’m co-authoring a technical report or drafting a project proposal, seeing edits happen live eliminates the "version control nightmare" of emailing files back and forth. The Version History feature is a genuine lifesaver. being able to revert to a specific draft from three days ago provides a massive safety net. I also love the seamless integration with Google Drive, making my files accessible across any device instantly and most importantly we get these features completely free of cost.

Cons

While it’s perfect for most tasks, it can struggle with performance when handling exceptionally large documents (100+ pages) or those with heavy image density. Additionally, while the offline mode is useful, it requires a bit of foresight to set up, and some advanced formatting features still lag behind desktop-heavy alternatives like Microsoft Word.

How Capterra ensures transparency

Capterra lists all providers across its website—not just those that pay us—so that users can make informed purchase decisions. Capterra is free for users. Software providers pay us for sponsored profiles to receive web traffic and sales opportunities. Sponsored profiles include a link-out icon that takes users to the provider's website.
