For an early stage product, the pricing is also quite affordable. Cons The list is not too long but lets start with Rigidity as the systems sometimes compels the user to do a given task in a certain way only and that way may not be the easiest. For example, the deployments are handled with Firebase CLI but sometimes it does not work as expected. I love how easy it is to setup Hosting, Database and Cloud Functions. However, some further advanced setting more suitable for high traffic application is still not effective. Pros I love how easy to use Google Firebase is. My business managed to setup our application to production within a month thanks for the super detailed documentation. The price for a Blaze Pay-as-you-go option is also acceptable for startup and small business alike. Cons I think Firebase still lacking heavy-duty functions in their line of services. Compared to other competition like AWS and Azure, Firebase is a tone-down version of their Google Cloud Service with a lot less flexibility like Load Balancing, Server hardware configuration,... etc. Still enough for small scale business in my opinion. There isn't a lot of competition in this space, and Firebase does the job. But be prepared to cry a little inside while trying to get it all working. I'm using it to integrate it with pre-made apps that don't give me any other option for a push notification for my apps. But the use-case for Firebase is much much bigger. Of course this is also the reason why it's so extremely complex. For development geeks this might be heaven since it gives them a lot of flexibility. For others... it's not... If you want to create a custom app, then you'll probably have the budget to also hire a Firebase expert to integrate Firebase and use it to it's full potential. If you're creating smaller apps using prebuilt tools like me, that maybe you'll just integrate Firebase on a minimal level, out of necessity, not really choice. Pros Firebase has a ton of features, but most people won't be using over 10% of those features. It is a popular tool that there already are established "experts" you can hire in order to help you do what you want to do with it. Once you sort of get the hang of it, you'll get into a comfort zone with this tool, literally not wanting to try anything new out of fear of not messing everything up. So even when you'll use it for a new project, you'll use it exactly as you did for the previous one, which might be good or bad depending on what your goals are. It is good that there are videos to guide you through it, but most are at the basic level. Cons Everything about Firebase is complicated. You basically need to get a new PhD to understand all of it. Fortunately you don't need to know it fully to be able to use it. But getting started for anyone new will be a nightmare. You won't even understand the costs to future project estimates regarding your use case. The documentation is written by experts for experts, so no luck in really getting into it even if you want to. This tool also changes so much that if you watch an older video, you'll get stuck because things have changed since then. Especially the ease of use, the fact that the basic rate is free and the platform support is strong makes Firebase a no-brainer for simple or even more complex projects. Pros In my experience as a self-taught Android and web developer, I have started using Firebase as a cloud backend for my projects. It is a versatile tool for lots of different problems you might encounter by developing a product. For my projects, Firebase always had the tools I needed in order to create what I imagined - everything from (Google-)logins, to databases, notification management and crash reporting. And in all these cases Firebase just worked! The few times I had to face errors, I was able to resolve problems easily and quickly by using the Firebase documentation or online communities. The incredible userbase Firebase offers also makes it very easy to find tutorials, help or other advice online. Furthermore, the platform support of Firebase is very good, it supports Android, iOS and the Web and additionally offers C++ and Unity in some cases. The prices of the Firebase tools are also very reasonable, most of them start for free and if used heavily they scale perfectly - in my opinion nobody should be disappointed by them. Cons Actually, there are no upsetting cons I went through in the time I have used Firebase. The Android Studio help dialogue is sometimes outdated which forced me to use the website for code examples. Additionally, I sometimes experienced a problem regarding the database syncing on Android devices, which cloud by solved by switching to the improved Cloud Firestore database. Even i used their hosting service to host one of my website, to host ur website u dont have to copy or paste ur code anywhere else just by using your command prompt or terminal you can deploy your code in Firebase and instantly your site will be online. You can deploy a new version of your code, even if u want to go to previous version of the website its just a click away. We had Spring Boot powered backend and were able to integrate social login work with Spring Authentication. We never had any issues with Firebase for this case. We were using Firebase also for following the app crashes on our customers. This was also very helpful for our mobile app. Pros I love how easy to configure and use Firebase to our backend product. Firebase is obviously integrates better with products using Google Cloud Platform but you are not limited to use it with only GCP. Implementation of Social login to our application was so smooth thanks to Firebase and it worked very well with over 5k + users Cons Creation and usage of API Key are a bit odd. Pros Multi site hosting is probably the best feature, allowing you to have several applications hosted, mapped to different domains. Also having firebase functions configurations is very useful to change settings on the fly. All of this works very easily with other google services like google big query or pub/sub. The pricing is also very cheap. Even for just a simple test app with limited calls its free. Cons Some of the settings for uploading multi hosting is a confusing json file and the documentation about it is not very clear. Pros Firebase is a complete platform to create your next startup project, for mobile or web. Depending on your needs you'll get a lot of out of the box, easy to scale products. From the database, AI, serverless, authentication, static hosting (mix with cloud functions for dynamic!), storage and even real time database. I've done some projects with Firebase and is amazing to get something quick, and scale it later. You can mix with other Google Cloud products to get a full cloud project running. Cons If you need relations, complicated queries to your DB, or text search you might need to add another layer like elastic search, go with other Google product (SQL DB) or use MongoDB. While Netlify was super slow to serve images (sometimes taking over 1 minute for an image that was 300kb!), Firebase has been blazing fast and I'll be using it for all my smaller side projects Pros \- Super easy to deploy to the server (much better than AWS in this) - Great, easy to use UI and advanced features - Very quick to serve images (better than Netlify), even on the free tier - Excellent for smaller side projects that don't need a global CDN. Cons \- The DB editing UI could be better (no option to duplicate object, etc) - Hosting is located in the US, which might be an issue if you need a global CDN. Besides that, I don't think I have any complaints. As a developer, it's been great.
